Is global search in android still available for developer?
(1 answer)
Closed 6 years ago.
I read some information about Quick Search Box and downloaded the SearchableDictionary sample to understand how to make app content available in the global search. When I deploy the app to my phone (Android M) it does not show in the selection list in the 'Phone Search' settings.
[ANSWERED] Is QSB support officially dead? I read this post but the answer is old and this one suggests App Indexing replaces it.
How do the two compare?
After more searching I see that this post confirms that global search is no longer supported for phones/tablets but still exists for Android TV.

App not visible on Play Store [closed]

I am trying to search my app on play store using app name but could not find my app. But when we try to search using package name its show.
Any idea regarding app showing on top position by searching title of the app. Thanks in advance.
this is SEO factor. You need to include some keywords in description of your app, so it will become searchable. and if you added your app recently then your app will be available after few days.
and if your app performing well then it will come on top if you search by name.

Kiosk mode in Android

Is there a way to hide all apps installed on the device and make only one app available to the user? In a way that the app automatically starts as soon as the screen is unlocked?
What I basically want to do is to have a device that's dedicated to the use of a single app. Can this somehow be accomplished? What options are available?
Since this app won't be distributed through google play or any other official channel, any even undocumented hacks would be an option. Any advise is welcome.
The only way that I think this can be implemented is by creating an custom launcher and include your app inside that launcher.

Is there any way to dynamically change an app icon like Calendar app does?
(7 answers)
Closed 4 years ago.
I am new to android app development. (please be elaborate)
I want to make a live icon for my weather app which shows current temperature on the icon, just like MIUI calender app which shows date on its icon.
I browsed all over the internet but could not find a way to make a live icon. Even a link to a tutorial would be helpful.
edit:
I don't want to make a widget.
I don't want to change an icon of already published app, by update I meant the app be able to update the icon on the basis of the data it receives.
I want the icon to be dynamic instead of static.
Changing an application icon - Android
Change your application icon. For help follow the link: https://stackoverflow.com/a/10817936/3819836
Change +1 to your version code in manifest file So that users can get application updates for the version we are working for. For more help follow: Versioning Your Applications
Sign APK with an existing keystore (with which you published app to play store). For more help follow: Signing Your Applications
Upload this APK to the play store. Users will get an update for your application and after installing they'll have a changed icon as we've worked for.
In android OS can't provide us way to create a live launcher icon, for example facebook status counter, if you want to use you have to create your own logic, by default android didn't provide
I think, when you're saying 'live icon', you're actually referring to Android Widgets. Take a look at the official documentation for more info - http://developer.android.com/design/patterns/widgets.html .

Rating an android app within an application
(2 answers)

I have developed an Android application.I want to add a rating functionality to it.So that user can rate my app in android market(google Play). Can anyone tell me how to do it with rating bar widget?
You can't rate from within the app yet (apparently coming soon), until then use a library like: https://github.com/codechimp-org/AppRater
There are no public Google Play Store APIs, and the unofficial ones do not provide a method of rating an application either.
You can gently remind your users to rate your application themselves.
While your intentions may be good, creating up a rating API would open up the Play Store to applications falsifying ratings.

Hi Is there any way to restrict the application so that It can only be installed in tablet?

Yes go into the android market publisher page.
Make sure your app is uploaded.
Click on your app name.
Scroll down to where it says 'Show devices'.
Click that and you can exlude all mobile phones from downloading your
app.
Failing that you can set some parameters in your manifest for screen size etc, but this is less reliable.
