ActionBar won't remove

ActionBar won't remove - android

I have just downloaded Android Studio and most of the activities have a blue Action Bar and Pink button with a envelope icon in it by default and I can't figure out how to remove it.
Things I've tried are:
Changing the app theme to xxxxx.Light/Dark.NoActionBar
Changed values in values>styles.xml
The most I can seem to do is make it gray but never removes it. Note I have changed nothing to the file yet.

In the main Layout file, you will see an AppBarLayout wrapping a Toolbar , if you don't want the ActionBar, this should be removed as these are the new widgets which replace what used to be known as the ActionBar

Try adding this to the application tag in your manifest:

If you need to prevent this from happening in the next projects you create, choose Empty Activity instead of a Blank Activity

Unable to open navigation drawer [duplicate]

In google developer blog post . I read about new way to create navigation drawer using new dependency called
compile 'com.android.support:design:22.2.0'
but I didn’t found exact way to create navigation drawer using this new dependency.
In build.gradle , I have added dependency
compile 'com.android.support:design:22.2.0'
compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:22.0.0'
in layout file added following code (based on google blog post)

It's not clear exactly what your issue is (in what way did it not work?),
but perhaps you missed the fact that you muse actually define the 'drawer_header' layout and the 'drawer' menu?
If that's not the problem, please explain in more detail exactly what you're having a problem with.

action bar for android browser

I am creating a personal browser app.i want to add edittext,back_button,forward_button and home_button on action bar. But when I set the EditText on action bar,then it was not visible. Then I removed the action bar and set the toolbar so that it was working well. But when I set back_button, forward_button and home_button in it, it was not visible. Then I again add the action bar. But it is now looking like a screenshot below.what is wrong in my codind? please suggest me .this is my screenshot

getSupportActionBar().setElevation(0) does not remove shadow from action bar

I'm not able to remove the shadow from my action bar using

Try this approach instead of .setElevation(0):
StateListAnimator stateListAnimator = new StateListAnimator();
stateListAnimator.addState(new int[0], ObjectAnimator.ofFloat(appBarLayout, "elevation", 0));
appBarLayout.setStateListAnimator(stateListAnimator);
If you want to set elevation back to default value:
value = getResources().getDimension(R.dimen.elevation);
stateListAnimator.addState(new int[0], ObjectAnimator.ofFloat(appBarLayout, "elevation", value));
Where R.dimen.elevation is set to 4dp (which is default elevation value for Material Design)

In google developer blog post . I read about new way to create navigation drawer using new dependency called

but I didn’t found exact way to create navigation drawer using this new dependency.

It's not clear exactly what your issue is (in what way did it not work?),
but perhaps you missed the fact that you muse actually define the 'drawer_header' layout and the 'drawer' menu?
If that's not the problem, please explain in more detail exactly what you're having a problem with.

Why does Toolbar in AppCompat not show when using as an ActionBar?

Google mentioned in their Android blog that there are two possibilities if one wants to use the new Toolbar using AppCompat. One is by using it as an ActionBar and one using it standalone, but as I am using ActionBarDrawerToggle, I need the first option. So I have to extend ActionBarActivity and my theme must inherit Theme.Appcompat (or one of it's variations). Also, to use the first option I had to inherit the NoActionBar variation. And finally, I had to call setSupportActionBar(mToolbar), which I did. However, the ActionBar still does not show. Below is my code.
I have already seen this post, but I guess in my case it's SwipeRefreshLayout that ruins it. I tried different places to include the toolbar, but none of them works. How can I include the toolbar without ruining the rest of the layout? Thanks.
