popupMenu.getAdapter().getItem(position) is returning CustomClass in your, and since you didn't override toString() in it, you are seeing the default implementation of Object.toString(). For the sake oh showing the name you could override it and return name. E.g.

Alternatively you can simply call popupMenu.getAdapter().getItem(position).getName()

My Title is kind of hard to understand but basically when I add items into my database is should display it in a RecyclerView. Now in my RecyclerView I have two layouts but the problem is the first item of my database goes behind my first item in my other layout. So if I have 3 items in my database, it shows only 2 items from the database and the first item hides behind my first item in the RecyclerView which is a different layout that does not use the database at all.

The ideal solution would have been to set two adapters on a single RecyclerView but unfortunatelly this is not possible.
However, you can make a single custom Adapter that handles two types of items. I will explain this by getting an example.
Let's assume you need to display objects of two types, humans and aliens. Your objects require completely different layouts and completely different ViewHolders. Please see the below code for the ViewHolders:

Why use the Firebase Recycler Adapter when you could easily make a custom one? If I understood well you want an item to be fixed at position 0 (header) while others will be added below the first one, right? If so, here is a solution I like to use:

I was also implementing com.thoughtbot.expandablerecyclerview. What I did in the same scenario was, in the custom class that is extending ExpandableGroup, I override getItems() and getItemCount() methods and provided the values which I wanted as "child"-expanded state.

This childview adapter has two view types first is one image and 3 text and second view type contain one image and one text.When I pass values from fragment only first view type get displayed and second view type not gets value from fragment.
To show multiple different views in a recyclerview, you have to override getItemViewType() in the recyclerview adapter.

Don't pass two separate list.Make a custom class like this-

In your activity while preparing the data.

After data is built, then send this to the adapter.
I am implementing sticky header with RecyclerView. I have three sections (i.e 3 sticky headers) and they are working fine.Now I have taken three arraylists inside each section, I have initialized these list in my adapter and I am trying to get data of these lists on basis of header id inside onBindViewHolder. But it is not giving me the full list,just one string from each list (i.e under first section--data on first position of mylist,,,under second section-- data on second position of mylist1 ---under third section-- data on third position of mylist2)
Please Help !!

Question is quite old. But that code looks complicated to read, personally I try to not reinvent what others did quite well by creating libraries.
GitHub is full of source that you can import. Some examples: FlexibleAdapter, FastAdapter, Epoxy and others.
I have build the first one, but you can try the others as well.
With mine, having multiple views and headers with sections is quite easy, I point here the wiki page where I define the section and how to initialize it.
Along with this feature, you have a lot more functionalities that makes your life easier.
I divide arraylist into 3 section based on alphabet like contactlist.
For that i use SectionedRecyclerViewAdapter
