image is not being saved in the folder - android

I am stuck with this from this morning: the image is not being created in the folder.
Can you help me and tell me why it's not working?
Is this correct for getting the image?
Bundle extras = data.getExtras();
Bitmap imageToSave = extras.getParcelable("data");
This is my full code
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (requestCode == 1 && resultCode == RESULT_OK && data != null && data.getData() != null) {
final File path =
Environment.getExternalStoragePublicDirectory
(
// Environment.DIRECTORY_PICTURES + "/ss/"
//Environment.DIRECTORY_DCIM
Environment.DIRECTORY_DCIM + "/MyFolderName/"
);
// Make sure the Pictures directory exists.
if(!path.exists())
{
path.mkdirs();
}
// Bitmap imageToSave = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
// Bitmap imageToSave = (Bitmap) data.getData();
Bundle extras = data.getExtras();
Bitmap imageToSave = extras.getParcelable("data");
final File file = new File(path, "file" + ".jpg");
try {
FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(path);
final BufferedOutputStream bos = new BufferedOutputStream(fos, 8192);
FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(path);
//fos = new FileOutputStream(path);
imageToSave.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 100, fos);
// imageToSave.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 100, out);
out.flush();
out.close();
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
Uri selectedImage = data.getData();
Intent i = new Intent(this,
AddImage.class);
i.putExtra("imagePath", selectedImage.toString());
startActivity(i);
}
}}

This should help:
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data)
{
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (requestCode == RESULT_LOAD_IMAGE && resultCode == RESULT_OK && null != data)
{
Uri selectedImage = data.getData();
String[] filePathColumn = {MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA};
Cursor cur =
getContentResolver().query
(
selectedImage, filePathColumn, null, null, null
);
cur.moveToFirst();
String picturePath = cur.getString(cur.getColumnIndex(filePathColumn[0]));
cur.close();
// String picturePath contains the path of the selected Image
// Now you can copy it, send it to a server, load it into an ImageView...
}
}

Data.getExtra() retrun a Uri;you should transform it to filepath.

I need to pick PDf file instead if the image

public void getPhoto() {

intent.setType("file/*");
startActivityForResult(intent, 1);
}
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {

Uri selectedImage = data.getData();
try {

Bitmap bitmap = MediaStore.Images.Media.getBitmap(this.getContentResolver(), selectedImage);
Log.i("Photo", "Received");
ByteArrayOutputStream stream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
bitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 100, stream);
byte[] byteArray = stream.toByteArray();
ParseFile file = new ParseFile("image.png", byteArray);
}
I'm struggling to sort out this problem somebody tell how to get pdf file and convert into Byte array
use this code to get pick pdf file and get the name, path, file, and Byte[];
public void getPhoto() {
Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
intent.setType("application/pdf");
startActivityForResult(intent, 1);
}
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (requestCode == 1 && resultCode == RESULT_OK && data != null) {
Uri selectedImage = data.getData();
try {
if(clicked==true){
Uri uri = data.getData();
String uriString = uri.toString();
File myFile = new File(uriString);
String path = myFile.getAbsolutePath();
String displayName = null;
Byte[] fileToByteArray=org.apache.commons.io.FileUtils.readFileToByteArray(myFile);
if (uriString.startsWith("content://")) {
Cursor cursor = null;
try {
cursor = getActivity().getContentResolver().query(uri, null, null, null, null);
if (cursor != null && cursor.moveToFirst()) {
displayName = cursor.getString(cursor.getColumnIndex(OpenableColumns.DISPLAY_NAME));
}
} finally {
cursor.close();
}
} else if (uriString.startsWith("file://")) {
displayName = myFile.getName();
}
}
Use below code and declare provider in your manifest.xml. and also create a provider.xml in your xml folder and provide the desired path in provider.xml and use the byte array for following code.
File pdf = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(), "Download" +"/"+ fileName+ ".pdf");
Uri fileURI = FileProvider.getUriForFile(MainActivity.this, "your package name" + ".provider", file1);
Intent intent = new Intent();
intent.setAction(Intent.ACTION_VIEW);
intent.setDataAndType(fileURI, "application/pdf");
intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_GRANT_READ_URI_PERMISSION | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
startActivity(intent);

Returning Imageuri=null (but data extras) from camera capture

while debugging the below code, i am getting the value of picUri as null and i can see as picUri=null data:"Intent" {act=inline-data (has extras)}" in trace. Why does picUri is not having the corresponding uri and have data extras?
public void onClick(View v) {
if (v.getId() == R.id.capture_btn) {
try {
// use standard intent to capture an image
Intent captureIntent = new Intent(
MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
// we will handle the returned data in onActivityResult
startActivityForResult(captureIntent, CAMERA_CAPTURE);
} catch (ActivityNotFoundException anfe) {
Toast toast = Toast.makeText(this, "This device doesn't support the crop action!",
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT);
toast.show();
}
}
}
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
if (resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
if (requestCode == CAMERA_CAPTURE) {
// get the Uri for the captured image
picUri = data.getData();
}
}
}
Here you pass the camera Intent
private void INTENTCAMERA() {
Intent cameraIntent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
startActivityForResult(cameraIntent, CAMERA_REQUEST);
}
And after that captured your image
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
if (requestCode == CAMERA_REQUEST && resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
Bitmap photo = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
imageView.setImageBitmap(photo);
knop.setVisibility(Button.VISIBLE);
// CALL THIS METHOD TO GET THE URI FROM THE BITMAP
Uri tempUri = getImageUri(getApplicationContext(), photo);
// CALL THIS METHOD TO GET THE ACTUAL PATH
File finalFile = new File(getRealPathFromURI(tempUri));
Log.e("ResultcapturedImage-->",mImageCaptureUri);
}
}
public Uri getImageUri(Context inContext, Bitmap inImage) {
ByteArrayOutputStream bytes = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
inImage.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 100, bytes);
String path = Images.Media.insertImage(inContext.getContentResolver(),
inImage, "Title", null);
return Uri.parse(path);
}
public String getRealPathFromURI(Uri uri) {
Cursor cursor = getContentResolver().query(uri, null, null, null, null);
cursor.moveToFirst();
int idx = cursor.getColumnIndex(MediaStore.Images.ImageColumns.DATA);
return cursor.getString(idx);
}
I have received the data in Bundle in onactivityresult and stored it into a file and got the uri from that file as shown below.
Bundle extras = data.getExtras();
Bitmap var_Bitmap = (Bitmap) extras.get("data");
ByteArrayOutputStream stream = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
var_Bitmap.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 100, stream);
byte[] bytes = stream.toByteArray();
try {
OutputStream out;
String root = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().getAbsolutePath()+"/";
File createDir = new File(root+"macro"+File.separator);
createDir.mkdir();
File file = new File(root + "macro" + File.separator +"macro.jpg");
file.createNewFile();
out = new FileOutputStream(file);
out.write(bytes);
out.close();
picUri= Uri.fromFile(file);
} catch (IOException e) {
// e.printStackTrace();
}

Android pick image from gallery not working (Android 6.0 & Android 5.1.1)

I'm using the code below to pick an image file from device gallery:
First I call this piece of code:
Intent i = new Intent();
i.setType("image/*");
i.setAction(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
startActivityForResult(Intent.createChooser(i, "Select Picture"), RESULT_LOAD_IMAGE);
This is my onActivityResult method:
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (requestCode == RESULT_LOAD_IMAGE && resultCode == RESULT_OK && null != data) {
photoPath = getPath(data.getData());
ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
FileInputStream fis;
try {
fis = new FileInputStream(new File(photoPath));
byte[] buf = new byte[1024];
int n;
while (-1 != (n = fis.read(buf))) {
baos.write(buf, 0, n);
}
img.setImageBitmap(BitmapFactory.decodeFile(photoPath));
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
And this a helper method to retrieve image path:
private String getPath(Uri uri) {
String[] data = { MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA };
CursorLoader loader = new CursorLoader(getApplicationContext(), uri, data, null, null, null);
Cursor cursor = loader.loadInBackground();
int column_index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA);
cursor.moveToFirst();
return cursor.getString(column_index);
}
My problem is that the app is weird. In my 6.0 emulator, sometimes it works and sometimes No. In an other device (Android 5.1.1) an FileNotFound Exception is thrown at this line
fis = new FileInputStream(new File(photoPath));
All required permissions are fine.Do you guys have any idea what's going on here? Or do you have any better suggestion what to use to pick an image from gallery?
Try this you can directly set image from onActivityResult
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (requestCode == PICK_IMAGE_REQUEST && resultCode == RESULT_OK && data != null && data.getData() != null) {
try{
final Uri imageUri = data.getData();
final InputStream imageStream = getContentResolver().openInputStream(imageUri);
final Bitmap selectedImage = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(imageStream);
imageView.setImageBitmap(selectedImage);
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
Step #1: Delete the ByteArrayOutputStream, as you are not using it.
Step #2: Delete photoPath = getPath(data.getData()); and the getPath() method, as they are wrong.
Step #3: Use an image loading library to asynchronously populate your ImageView, passing it the Uri (data.getData()) of the image to load. Or, roll lots of your own image-loading code, including forking a background thread and using getContentResolver().openInputStream() to get an InputStream on the content identified by the Uri.
you can use like below code
public void pickImage() {
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
intent.setType("image/*");
startActivityForResult(intent, PICK_PHOTO_FOR_AVATAR);
}
#Override
public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (requestCode == PICK_PHOTO_FOR_AVATAR && resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) {
if (data == null) {
//Display an error
return;
}
InputStream inputStream = context.getContentResolver().openInputStream(data.getData());
//Now you can do whatever you want with your inpustream, save it as file, upload to a server, decode a bitmap...
}
}
//you are in fragment so use the below code hope its work
final Uri imageUri = data.getData();
final InputStream imageStream =getActivity().getContentResolver().openInputStream(imageUri);
final Bitmap selectedImage = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(imageStream);

Captured image does not display on ImageView

In my Activity A, there is an ImageView and a Button. When the button is clicked, it goes to activeTakePhoto(). The imgUri gets displayed but nothing is displayed in my ImageView.
private void activeTakePhoto() {
Intent takePictureIntent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
if (takePictureIntent.resolveActivity(getPackageManager()) != null) {
String fileName = "temp.jpg";
ContentValues values = new ContentValues();
values.put(MediaStore.Images.Media.TITLE, fileName);
mCapturedImageURI = getContentResolver()
.insert(MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI,
values);
takePictureIntent
.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, mCapturedImageURI);
startActivityForResult(takePictureIntent, REQUEST_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
}
}
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode,
Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
switch (requestCode) {
case RESULT_LOAD_IMAGE:
if (requestCode == RESULT_LOAD_IMAGE &&
resultCode == RESULT_OK && null != data) {
Uri selectedImage = data.getData();
String[] filePathColumn = {MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA};
Cursor cursor = getContentResolver()
.query(selectedImage, filePathColumn, null, null,
null);
cursor.moveToFirst();
int columnIndex = cursor.getColumnIndex(filePathColumn[0]);
String picturePath = cursor.getString(columnIndex);
cursor.close();
}
case REQUEST_IMAGE_CAPTURE:
if (requestCode == REQUEST_IMAGE_CAPTURE &&
resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
File picture = new File(Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + "/temp.jpg");
ImageView imgView=(ImageView)findViewById(R.id.imageView);
Uri imgUri=Uri.fromFile(picture);
imgView.setImageURI(imgUri);
Toast.makeText(getApplication(),imgUri+"",Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
}
}
You can try this code,it may help:
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
if (v == imgCamera) {
Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "open camera", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
startActivityForResult(intent, CAMERA_REQUEST);
}
}//on click
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
Log.e("RESULT CODE", "--" + resultCode);
if (resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
Bitmap thumbnail = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
ByteArrayOutputStream bytes = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
thumbnail.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 90, bytes);
//to generate random file name
String fileName = "tempimg.jpg";
try {
Bitmap photo = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
//captured image set in imageview
imageView.setImageBitmap(photo);
} catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
in activeTakePhoto
Replace
String fileName = "temp.jpg";
with
fileName=Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().getAbsolutePath() + "/temp.jpg"

Get file path of image on Android

I have an app that can make pictures and upload them. The upload requires the file path of the photo but I can't get it.
This is my code:
public void maakfoto (View v) {
Intent cameraIntent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
cameraIntent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, mImageCaptureUri);
startActivityForResult(cameraIntent, CAMERA_REQUEST);
}
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
if (requestCode == CAMERA_REQUEST && resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
Bitmap photo = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
imageView.setImageBitmap(photo);
knop.setVisibility(Button.VISIBLE);
System.out.println(mImageCaptureUri);
}
}
Please help me to get the file path.
Posting to Twitter needs the image's actual path on the device to be sent in the request to post. I was finding it mighty difficult to get the actual path and more often than not I would get the wrong path.
To counter that, once you have a Bitmap, I use that to get the URI from using the getImageUri(). Subsequently, I use the tempUri Uri instance to get the actual path as it is on the device.
This is production code and naturally tested. ;-)
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
if (requestCode == CAMERA_REQUEST && resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
Bitmap photo = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
imageView.setImageBitmap(photo);
knop.setVisibility(Button.VISIBLE);
// CALL THIS METHOD TO GET THE URI FROM THE BITMAP
Uri tempUri = getImageUri(getApplicationContext(), photo);
// CALL THIS METHOD TO GET THE ACTUAL PATH
File finalFile = new File(getRealPathFromURI(tempUri));
System.out.println(mImageCaptureUri);
}
}
public Uri getImageUri(Context inContext, Bitmap inImage) {
ByteArrayOutputStream bytes = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
inImage.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 100, bytes);
String path = Images.Media.insertImage(inContext.getContentResolver(), inImage, "Title", null);
return Uri.parse(path);
}
public String getRealPathFromURI(Uri uri) {
Cursor cursor = getContentResolver().query(uri, null, null, null, null);
cursor.moveToFirst();
int idx = cursor.getColumnIndex(MediaStore.Images.ImageColumns.DATA);
return cursor.getString(idx);
}
Try out with mImageCaptureUri.getPath(); By Below Way :
if (requestCode == CAMERA_REQUEST && resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
//Get your Image Path
String Path=mImageCaptureUri.getPath();
Bitmap photo = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
imageView.setImageBitmap(photo);
knop.setVisibility(Button.VISIBLE);
System.out.println(mImageCaptureUri);
}
In order to take a picture you have to determine a path where you would like the image saved and pass that as an extra in the intent, for example:
private void capture(){
String directoryPath = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + "/" + IMAGE_DIRECTORY + "/";
String filePath = directoryPath+Long.toHexString(System.currentTimeMillis())+".jpg";
File directory = new File(directoryPath);
if (!directory.exists()) {
directory.mkdirs();
}
this.capturePath = filePath; // you will process the image from this path if the capture goes well
Intent intent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
intent.putExtra( MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, Uri.fromFile( new File(filePath) ) );
startActivityForResult(intent, REQUEST_CAPTURE);
}
I just copied the above portion from another answer I gave.
However to warn you there are a lot of inconsitencies with image capture behavior between devices that you should look out for.
Here is an issue I ran into on some HTC devices, where it would save in the location I passed and in it's default location resulting in duplicate images on the device:
Deleting a gallery image after camera intent photo taken
I am doing this on click of Button.
private static final int CAMERA_PIC_REQUEST = 1;
private View.OnClickListener OpenCamera=new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View paramView) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Intent cameraIntent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
NewSelectedImageURL=null;
//outfile where we are thinking of saving it
Date date = new Date();
SimpleDateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH-mm-ss");
String newPicFile = RecipeName+ df.format(date) + ".png";
String outPath =Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory() + "/myFolderName/"+ newPicFile ;
File outFile = new File(outPath);
CapturedImageURL=outFile.toString();
Uri outuri = Uri.fromFile(outFile);
cameraIntent.putExtra(android.provider.MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, outuri);
startActivityForResult(cameraIntent, CAMERA_PIC_REQUEST);
}
};
You can get the URL of the recently Captured Image from variable CapturedImageURL
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
//////////////////////////////////////
if (requestCode == CAMERA_PIC_REQUEST) {
// do something
if (resultCode == RESULT_OK)
{
Uri uri = null;
if (data != null)
{
uri = data.getData();
}
if (uri == null && CapturedImageURL != null)
{
uri = Uri.fromFile(new File(CapturedImageURL));
}
File file = new File(CapturedImageURL);
if (!file.exists()) {
file.mkdir();
sendBroadcast(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_MOUNTED, Uri.parse("file://"+Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory())));
}
}
}
use this function to get the capture image path
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
if (requestCode == CAMERA_REQUEST && resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
Uri mImageCaptureUri = intent.getData();
Bitmap photo = (Bitmap) data.getExtras().get("data");
imageView.setImageBitmap(photo);
knop.setVisibility(Button.VISIBLE);
System.out.println(mImageCaptureUri);
//getImgPath(mImageCaptureUri);// it will return the Capture image path
}
}
public String getImgPath(Uri uri) {
String[] largeFileProjection = { MediaStore.Images.ImageColumns._ID,
MediaStore.Images.ImageColumns.DATA };
String largeFileSort = MediaStore.Images.ImageColumns._ID + " DESC";
Cursor myCursor = this.managedQuery(
MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI,
largeFileProjection, null, null, largeFileSort);
String largeImagePath = "";
try {
myCursor.moveToFirst();
largeImagePath = myCursor
.getString(myCursor
.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Images.ImageColumns.DATA));
} finally {
myCursor.close();
}
return largeImagePath;
}
You can do like that In Kotlin If you need kotlin code in the future
val myUri = getImageUri(applicationContext, myBitmap!!)
val finalFile = File(getRealPathFromURI(myUri))
fun getImageUri(inContext: Context, inImage: Bitmap): Uri {
val bytes = ByteArrayOutputStream()
inImage.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.JPEG, 100, bytes)
val path = MediaStore.Images.Media.insertImage(inContext.contentResolver, inImage, "Title", null)
return Uri.parse(path)
}
fun getRealPathFromURI(uri: Uri): String {
val cursor = contentResolver.query(uri, null, null, null, null)
cursor!!.moveToFirst()
val idx = cursor.getColumnIndex(MediaStore.Images.ImageColumns.DATA)
return cursor.getString(idx)
}
To get the path of all images in android I am using following code
public void allImages()
{
ContentResolver cr = getContentResolver();
Cursor cursor;
Uri allimagessuri = MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI;
String selection = MediaStore.Images.Media._ID + " != 0";
cursor = cr.query(allsongsuri, STAR, selection, null, null);
if (cursor != null) {
if (cursor.moveToFirst()) {
do {
String fullpath = cursor.getString(cursor
.getColumnIndex(MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA));
Log.i("Image path ", fullpath + "");
} while (cursor.moveToNext());
}
cursor.close();
}
}
Simple Pass Intent first
Intent i = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK,android.provider.MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI);
startActivityForResult(i, RESULT_LOAD_IMAGE);
And u will get picture path on u onActivityResult
#Override
protected void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (requestCode == RESULT_LOAD_IMAGE && resultCode == RESULT_OK && null != data) {
Uri selectedImage = data.getData();
String[] filePathColumn = { MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA };
Cursor cursor = getContentResolver().query(selectedImage,filePathColumn, null, null, null);
cursor.moveToFirst();
int columnIndex = cursor.getColumnIndex(filePathColumn[0]);
String picturePath = cursor.getString(columnIndex);
cursor.close();
ImageView imageView = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.imgView);
imageView.setImageBitmap(BitmapFactory.decodeFile(picturePath));
}
}
