I have been trying to figure out almost 2 weeks.
I have read previous posts and tried the proposed solutions but they didn't work for me.
Iam using Android Studio, I need Webview to access a local Jpg stored in Android Assets file.
Here is my code:
webView = (WebView) findViewById(R.id.webview);
startWebView("file:///android_asset/railchinese.jpg");
webView.getSettings().setBuiltInZoomControls(true);
webView.getSettings().setDisplayZoomControls(true);
webView.getSettings().setSupportZoom(true);
webView.getSettings().setUseWideViewPort(true);
webView.getSettings().setJavaScriptEnabled(true);
webView.getSettings().setLoadWithOverviewMode(true);
private void startWebView(String url) {
webView.setWebViewClient(new WebViewClient() {
public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, String url) {
view.loadUrl(url);
return true;
}
});
webView.loadUrl(url);
Here is the Assets location screen:
Kindlly let me know where is the mistake?..
Try this
String htmlData="<img src= railchinese.png>";
webView.loadDataWithBaseURL("file:///android_asset/", htmlData, "text/html", "utf-8", null);

I am trying to load some HTML content (it is a hyperlink) in WebView. But when I click that link nothing is opening. But the same link is working in browser or iOS WebView perfectly.
The code I try:
htmlContent.getSettings().setJavaScriptEnabled(true);
htmlContent.setWebViewClient(new WebViewClient() {
#Override
public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, String url) {
view.loadUrl(url);
return true;
}
});
htmlContent.loadDataWithBaseURL(null, Html.fromHtml(categoryItemsBean.getContent()).toString(), "text/html", "utf-8", null);
Value of categoryItemsBean.getContent().
<p><a title="كتاب مساعدة الأصدقاء"
href="https://www.manhal.com/platform/stories/demo/index.php?storyid=31"
target="_blank">كتاب مساعدة الأصدقاء </a></p>
Using loadData() method for loading html content on webview
Sample
String unencodedHtml ="<html><body>'%23' is the percent code for ‘#‘ </body></html>";
String encodedHtml = Base64.encodeToString(unencodedHtml.getBytes(),Base64.NO_PADDING);
htmlContent.loadData(encodedHtml, "text/html", "base64");
Convert your html content into base64
I have the code for playing YouTube in WebView on Android.
It works well on new phones (Android 4.4, 5.1, 6, 7 OS) but when I tried it on Android 4.0.3 it opens the YouTube frame with controls and after clicking on button play in the midle the gray background is shown all the time.
The code:
private void initializeWebView() {
WebView webView = (WebView) findViewById(R.id.webView);
//webView.setLayerType(View.LAYER_TYPE_SOFTWARE, null);
webView.getSettings().setCacheMode(WebSettings.LOAD_NO_CACHE);
webView.getSettings().setRenderPriority(WebSettings.RenderPriority.HIGH);
webView.setBackgroundColor(getResources().getColor(R.color.semi_transparent_black_20percentage));
webView.getSettings().setBuiltInZoomControls(true);
//webView.getSettings().setDisplayZoomControls(false);
webView.setWebViewClient(new WebViewClient() {
#Override
public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, String url) {
return false;
}
});
WebSettings webSetting = webView.getSettings();
webSetting.setJavaScriptEnabled(true);
webSetting.setDisplayZoomControls(false);
//webSetting.setLoadWithOverviewMode(true);
//webSetting.setUseWideViewPort(true);
int screenWidth = getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay().getWidth();
webView.setLayoutParams(new RelativeLayout.LayoutParams( screenWidth / 2, LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT));
getWindow().setFlags(
WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_HARDWARE_ACCELERATED,
WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_HARDWARE_ACCELERATED);
webView.getSettings().setPluginState(WebSettings.PluginState.ON);
webSetting.setJavaScriptEnabled(true);
webSetting.setBuiltInZoomControls(true);
webSetting.setAllowContentAccess(true);
webSetting.setEnableSmoothTransition(true);
webSetting.setLoadsImagesAutomatically(true);
webSetting.setLoadWithOverviewMode(true);
webSetting.setSupportZoom(false);
webSetting.setUseWideViewPort(true);
webSetting.setAppCacheEnabled(true);
webSetting.setSupportMultipleWindows(true);
webView.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
}
public void loadPageIntoWebView(String htmlFilename){
AssetManager mgr = getBaseContext().getAssets();
try {
String htmlContentInStringFormat = "";
WebView webView = (WebView) findViewById(R.id.webView);
String frameVideo = "<body>Video From YouTube<br><iframe width=\"420\" height=\"315\" src=\"https://www.youtube.com/embed/2a7f29Jvihc?wmode=transparent\" frameborder=\"0\" allowtransparency></iframe></body>";
htmlContentInStringFormat = frameVideo;
webView.loadDataWithBaseURL(null, htmlContentInStringFormat, "text/html", "utf-8", null);
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
This code is working well and playing YouTube videos on newer phones (Android OS4.4-7).
What I should change to get it working on Android 4.0.3 as well ?
this is the photo showing the gray background without playing youtubevideo after clicking on the button play inthe middle of the screen:
Solved!
After I added the following line it works on Android 4.0.3 aswell:
webView.setWebChromeClient(new WebChromeClient() {});
It is not mandatory but I added the line before this line:
webView.setWebViewClient(new WebViewClient()
Hope that this solution will help other collegues working with Epson Moverio BT-200 smart glasses etc.

WebView cannot display PDF documents in Android.
You can handle the pdf to either download it and then open a 3rd party app as shown here.
Or you can also use Google Drive viewer.
String myPdfUrl = "http://example.com/awesome.pdf";
String url = "http://docs.google.com/gview?embedded=true&url=" + myPdfUrl;
Log.i(TAG, "Opening PDF: " + url);
webView.getSettings().setJavaScriptEnabled(true);
webView.loadUrl(url);
In Android we have an url
"http://offers.bartizan.com/we-want-ileads-at-our-shows"
which contains lot of data.
We load this url in webview, In android 2.3 and onwards its working fine means diplay all content of url data but in android 2.1 and 2.2 not display Input Text form.
Here is my code which i used to load url in webview.
webView.getSettings().setJavaScriptEnabled(true);
webView.addJavascriptInterface(new MyJavaScriptInterface(), "HTMLOUT");
webView.getSettings().setPluginsEnabled(true);
webView.getSettings().setDomStorageEnabled(true);
webView.getSettings().setJavaScriptCanOpenWindowsAutomatically(true);
webView.getSettings().setRenderPriority(RenderPriority.HIGH);
webView.enablePlatformNotifications();
webView.getSettings().setCacheMode(android.webkit.WebSettings.LOAD_DEFAULT);
webView.loadUrl("http://offers.bartizan.com/we-want-ileads-at-our-shows");
webView.setWebViewClient(new WebViewClient(){
#Override
public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading(WebView view, String url) {
//if(url.contains("http://www.youtube.com/embed/")){
Log.d("WBC", "This is a YouTube link: " + url);
Log.e("url---Video->", url);
view.loadUrl(url);
return true;
} });
class MyJavaScriptInterface {
public void showHTML(String html) {
String htmlString = html;
Log.e("<---MyJavaScriptInterface---showHTML----->", htmlString);
}
}
Below form not display in android OS. 2.1 and 2.2

trying to add js and div to webview. showing a blank screen.
i am trying to do like functionality for android app. please help me.
Check the output of your logcat and add something like this:
/* WebChromeClient must be set BEFORE calling loadUrl! */
view.setWebChromeClient(new WebChromeClient() {
#Override
public boolean onJsAlert(WebView view, String url, String message, final android.webkit.JsResult result) {
Log.e("js ", message);
return false;
}
});/ // for debugging convenience.
to also log the javascript errors to logcat.
