Android onReceive in BroadcastReceiver not working - android

I added a receiver to listen when app is installed. But it is not working. Here is my code in AndroidManifest.xml
<receiver android:enabled="true"
android:exported="true"
android:name="com.bsp.iqtest.reiceiver.IQTestReceiver">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.PACKAGE_ADDED" />
<action android:name="android.intent.action.PACKAGE_REPLACED" />
<data android:scheme="package"/>
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
Here is my code in MainActivity (launcher activity) , function onCreate.
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
IQTestReceiver br = new IQTestReceiver();
IntentFilter intentFilter = new IntentFilter();
intentFilter.addAction(Intent.ACTION_PACKAGE_ADDED);
intentFilter.addAction(Intent.ACTION_PACKAGE_REPLACED);
intentFilter.addDataScheme("package");
registerReceiver(br, intentFilter);
}
Here is my code in IQTestReceiver (this class is written in other file)
public class IQTestReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
public IQTestReceiver() {
}
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
String packageName=intent.getData().getEncodedSchemeSpecificPart();
Log.e("HELLO",packageName);
}
}
I set a breakpoint in onReceive function , but it doesn't run when i debug.
Thanks for your helping.

You can not receive PACKAGE_ADDED or PACKAGE_REPLACED for your own app, if that is what you're trying.
"Broadcast Action: A new application package has been installed on the device. The data contains the name of the package. Note that the newly installed package does not receive this broadcast."
See http://developer.android.com/reference/android/content/Intent.html

set your broadcasrt in manifest like this
<receiver
android:name=".IQTestReceiver"
android:exported="true"
android:enabled="true">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="check_values"/>
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
and send the broadcast like this.....Intent it1=new Intent(Intent.ACTION_USER_PRESENT);
it1.setAction("check_values");
it1.putExtra("data_key1",message);
sendBroadcast(it1);
and in on receive would be like this....
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent)
{
data1=intent.getStringExtra("data_key1");
System.out.println("ffffff11" + data1);
}

Priority two apps use bootcompletedReceiver on android

recently I use BOOT_COMPLETED 2 app (A app, and B app)
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED"/>
</intent-filter>
A app is activity and B app is service app
when my device boot,
first A app launch and B app launch
so, show B app screen.
I want
first B app launch and A app launch showing A app screen
perhaps, Can I give BOOT_COMPLETED Priority is possible?
finally, I want when I boot my device, show A app screen
Thanks!
add
I try
B app(service)
public class BootCompletedReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver{
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
if (intent.getAction().equals(Intent.ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED) {
Intent i = new Intent("A app package name.BOOT_COMPLETED");
context.sendBroadcast(i);
}
}
}
<receiver android:name=".BootCompletedReceiver"
android:enabled="true"
android:exported="true">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED"/>
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
A app(activity)
public class BootSendReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context,Intent intent) {
if( intent.getAction().equals("B app packagename.BOOT_COMPLETED"));
Intent i = new Intent (context, MainActivity.class);
context.startActivity(i);
}
}
<receiver android:name=".BootSendReceiver">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="blackeyeonandroid.iosystem.co.kr.simpleserviceexample.BOOT_COMPLETED"/>
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
and I try boot .. but showing B app screen
I think you can not control that..
Instead, you can make APP1 start the APP2. This way, only APP1 receives the BOOT_COMPLETE message. Then, APP1 is responsible to send a new intent to start APP2:
Maybe, you can do as follows (note that APP2 does not receive android's default BOOT_COMPLETED message):
APP1
Manifest:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED" />
<receiver android:name=".AppToStartFirstBroadcastReceiver">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
Receiver
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
if (intent.getAction().equals(Intent.ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED)) {
Intent i = new Intent("com.example.mytestapp.BOOT_COMPLETED");
context.sendBroadcast(i);
}
}
APP2
Manifest:
<receiver android:name=".AppToStartLaterBroadcastReceiver">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="com.example.mytestapp.BOOT_COMPLETED" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
Receiver
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
if (intent.getAction().equals("com.example.mytestapp.BOOT_COMPLETED")) {
// Do what you want in secundary APP
}
}
Note
This is an suggestion and you should adjust to your case. Since I don't have more details about your code, you may need to modify it to your case.. But you can use the idea.

Open Activity With Dial Code

I want to develop app that doesn't have icon launcher. The app will run alarmscheduler which triggered when app is installed or phone is rebooted.
The problem is how can I open the activity since the app doesn't have intent filter like below:
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" />
<category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" />
</intent-filter>
Is there a way to handle dial code such as ##4635*#*# to open the activity ?
or any other solutions are welcomed.
You can do it with two ways:
1) as answer by #KishuDroid
2) By define code in manifest
public class MySecretCodeReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
if(intent.getAction().equals("android.provider.Telephony.SECRET_CODE")) {
Intent i = new Intent(context, MainActivity.class);
i.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
context.startActivity(i);
}
}
}
In manifest file
<receiver android:name=".MySecretCodeReceiver">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.provider.Telephony.SECRET_CODE" />
<data android:scheme="android_secret_code" android:host="4635" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
Note:
In Second method you must have to dial *#*#your_code#*#* and dont need to press call button
But in first method you can customise your prefix or postfix of code. For example *#your_code# or **your_code##. but you need to press call button.
You have to use Broadcast Receiver...
public class OutgoingCallReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
Bundle bundle = intent.getExtras();
if(null == bundle)
return;
String phonenumber = intent.getStringExtra(Intent.EXTRA_PHONE_NUMBER);
Log.i("OutgoingCallReceiver",phonenumber);
Log.i("OutgoingCallReceiver",bundle.toString());
if(code.equals("#056700") {
intent.setComponent(new ComponentName("com.example", "com.example.yourActivity"));
And Your Android Manifest
<receiver android:name="com.varma.samples.detectcalls.receivers.OutgoingCallReceiver">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.NEW_OUTGOING_CALL"/>
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
Also, include the permission:
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.PROCESS_OUTGOING_CALLS"/>

BroadCast receiver on boot

I'm starting with android and I'm having some lessons to learn some android concepts. In this case, I'm practicing with the BroadCast receivers.
I have to create a BroadCast Receiver that when I boot the phone/emulator, starts an activity which shows a plain text.
I have this class:
public class MainActivity extends Activity {
private final BroadcastReceiver receiver = new BroadcastReceiver() {
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
IntentFilter mfilter = new IntentFilter(Intent.ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED);
registerReceiver(receiver, mfilter);
}
};
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.main);
}
}
But i'm not getting to do what I need, it simply does nothing, so... What I'm doing wrong here?
In the manifest I just have the activity declared.
Try this...
Step1:
set the permission in AndroidManifest.xml
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED" />
Step2:
Add this is intent filter in receiver,
<receiver android:name=".BootReciever">
<intent-filter >
<action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED"/>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.QUICKBOOT_POWERON" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
Step3:
Now you can start your application's first activity from onReceive method of Receiver class..
public class BootReciever extends BroadcastReceiver
{
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
Intent myIntent = new Intent(context, MainActivity.class);
myIntent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
context.startActivity(myIntent);
}
}
You can not register ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED receiver dynamically(it's not a way).
ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED receiver has to be registered statically in manifest file
ex
<receiver android:name="com.myapp.receiver.BootReceiver" >
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>
When you register a receiver in Activity or in Service it's lifetime is bound with them
You need to define your receiver inside app manifest.
For ex:
Class
class MyClass extends BroadCastReceiver{
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
IntentFilter mfilter = new IntentFilter(Intent.ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED);
registerReceiver(receiver, mfilter);
}
}
Create your own MyReceiver class by extending BroadcastReceiver class, and register your MyReceiver in the manifest with filter ACTION_BOOT_COMPLETED.
<receiver android:name="com.test.MyReceiver" >
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED" />
</intent-filter>
</receiver>

Android - BroadcastReceiver not working

I have seen article this
. Then I try to make a example to catch event when I installed app
This is my code `
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
AppInstalled appInstalled = new AppInstalled();
IntentFilter intentFilter = new IntentFilter();
intentFilter.addAction(Intent.ACTION_PACKAGE_ADDED);
intentFilter.addDataScheme("package");
registerReceiver(appInstalled, intentFilter);
}
private class AppInstalled extends BroadcastReceiver
{
#Override
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
Toast.makeText(SplashActivity.this, "Application Installed", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
}`
But it's never show message . Please give me some advice
You have to add your receiver into AndroidManifest.xml file under tag. Please check it.
register you receiver in manifest file
<receiver android:name=".AppInstalled">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.PACKAGE_INSTALL" />
<action android:name="android.intent.action.PACKAGE_ADDED" />
<data android:scheme="package"/>
</intent-filter>
</receiver>

Android BroadcastReceiver can't receive any broadcast events

I have created a BroadcastReceiver to detect SDCard mount and unmount
event, however, I am not able to receive any events at all:
here's the AndroidManifest.xml:
<receiver android:enabled="true" android:label="SDCardMountReceiver" android:exported="true" android:name="xxx.broadcasts.SDCardBroadcastReceiver">
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.content.Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_MOUNTED"></action>
<!-- or <action android:name="android.content.Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_UNMOUNTED" />--></intent-filter>
</receiver>
And the SDCardMountReceiver class:
public class SDCardBroadcastReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver {
public SDCardBroadcastReceiver() {
super();
System.err.println("constructor");
}
public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) {
Log.d("SDCardBroadCastReceiver", "receive " + intent.getAction());
System.err.println("jonathan receive " + intent.getAction());
}
}
You also need to set the data scheme to "file".
<intent-filter>
<action android:name="android.intent.action.MEDIA_MOUNTED" />
<data android:scheme="file" />
</intent-filter>
Reference: android-developers thread
The Intent javadoc specifies a different action:name value.
Use "android.intent.action.MEDIA_MOUNTED" instead of "android.content.Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_MOUNTED"
If you register a broadcast receiver programmatically, you must also set the scheme to "file".
IntentFilter filter = new IntentFilter();
filter.addAction(Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_MOUNTED);
filter.addAction(Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_REMOVED);
filter.addDataScheme("file");
mContext.registerReceiver(mExternalStorageReceiver, filter);
