Android Studio Network Monitoring not Working - android

I am running Android Studio 1.5.1 on Ubuntu 14.04. I want to check the network usage of my application and hence tried the network monitoring tool from Android studio. However, for all the android emulator I've tried, I only get the message
Network monitoring is not available on your device
Any idea on how I can fix this? What is needed to monitor the network usage? Is this even supported for emulators?

#AnyssaK was right. The Network Monitor doesn't work on emulators. Please read their comment.
Besides make sure that you selected the correct device in Android Monitor.

my app totally freezes when I turn android studio profiler on, so i am unable to view network traffic

I want to find out how much data my app is sending but my app freezes and stops reacting to my inputs when i turn android studio profiler on. is this a known issue? I havnt seen any posts on this. is there an alternative to view the network traffic of my app?
maybe because you run your app on a device that has low memory, so when you try to use profiler (which take amount of device memory) your device run out of memory.
if you run it on emulator try making a new AVD with More RAM size than one you tried
It just worked after updating android studio from 3.6.1 to 3.6.3 i assume this was a bug. i still have to check my app for memory leaks but i somehow doubt this was the reason. on i other thread i found this was affecting particularly android 8 devices. hope this helps other people with this issue.

Virtual network switcH required for android emulators in Visual Studio 2015?

I heard good things about new android emulators for Visual Studio 2015 / Windows 10 (thanks to Xamarin?), so just tried deploying to one and got a message that an internet connection is required so that the emulated device can connect to a virtual switch.
Is it me or does this seem peculiar to anyone else.
Anyone know the reason for this virtual network switch?
Check your VM for emulator. It should have Emulator Internal Network Adapter set to Windows Phone Emulator Internal Switch. If you need an access to Internet from this emulator then check that also External Network Adapter is defined and it is set to the network card of your machine. If you are missing any of these press Add Hardware and add it manually.

VS Emulator for Android has no internet connection

As the title says, my VS Android Emulator has no connection to the internet. In the Android screen, it says it's connected to WiFi, but browsing doesn't work.
Expect the problem is I am running Windows 10 in Parallels on my MacBook, but I don't know how to fix it. Windows "thinks" it's connected to ethernet.
My adapter settings in Windows look like this:
Hyper-V network settings for my emulator:
Network settings in Parallels is set to Bridged Network WIFI
Try enabling Enable Virtual LAN Identification from your Hyper-V Network settings screen. If that doesn't work, you may try changing the switch and VLAN IDs until it works.
Microsoft recently announced a release of VS for Mac. That will be a far more user friendly option or even better go straight for the gold and use Android studio 2. You really shouldn't have to run Parallels at all for what you are trying to do, and this is what is ultimately giving you problems in the first place. Even if you do solve this internet issue there will most likely be another issue that crops up and there are enough problems to deal with devving as it is.

Is it good and possible to always test an android app on real device rather than using android emulator

I am trying to learn android on a dell device having 4gb ram and intel pentium chipset. I am trying to run hello world app on a emulator but it actually take much time(more than 5 minutes) to start the process and at the end give error message "Error while waiting for device: Timed out after 300seconds waiting for emulator to come online". As far as testing on device is considered i find it fast and easy.
So my question is that possible to always test an app on real device and skipping the testing on an emulator.
Also suggest me some tips to make my android studio run faster.
.
Its always better to test on a real device. Its very fast especially when debugging. If your emulator is taking long to load imagine a situation where you are trying to debug and want to check the app's behaviour after each change in code. Just install the usb drivers and sdk tool that your device's api version is running on
Sure it is!
First of all, enable the developer mode in your device (if it's not enabled already). Info for doing this here.
Then just plug your device via USB and it will appear when you run your project in Android Studio.
NOTE: The first time you attempt to run the project, your phone will ask for permissions, make sure you allow it!
It will be good if we are testing the application in real device rather than emulator if you have the device. But we can't buy different density, different dimension, different android version devices for testing so for that purpose we need to use emulator.
To improve the speed of android emulator install HAXM in your system, it will speed up the emulators.

Android Emulate Device Without Phone Number

I have an android application and I'm able to simulate the network going in and out, however I wish to know if there is a way to simulate an android device without a phone number.
I have a program which can run just through wireless, so the phones don't need service. I'm curious if there is a way to emulate this with the android emulator in eclipse.
I use the Genymotion emulator. This emulator doesn't have a telephony module - for example, switching off wifi switches off all network connectivity. The emulator works great for Eclipse, IntelliJ and Android Studio.
And you also get the benefit of having an insanely fast emulator.
