For this particular project, Android studio just shows analyzing files, doesn't show any errors and the IntelliSense is also not auto-suggesting. I have tried to invalidate cache/ restart, checked that android studio is not in power mode, and also deleted the project locally and cloned it again, what can be the issue?
It was working fine till 2 days ago but today when I opened the app and tried to build it and make some changes to a few files, it just wont work.
I am on Android Studio 4.2.1 on macOS Big Sur 11.2.1
If I create a new project the studio is working fine but just for this project its not working

You just need to Upgrade the latest kotlin version.
Upgrade the dependency in the project's build.gradle file.
classpath "org.jetbrains.kotlin:kotlin-gradle-plugin:1.5.10"
Upgrade the dependency in the app's build.gradle file.
implementation "org.jetbrains.kotlin:kotlin-stdlib:1.5.10"
Delete .idea , .gradle andr buid folder from your project path.
After delete your project from Android Studio and re-open and its work.
Sometimes android studio has been not working properly so ignore this bugs its nothing.
Just make File -> Invalidate caches and restart

I am getting the following error in Android Studio while syncing:

and unable to create or run the app build.
This can be one solution. I tried Copy and Cut everything in the setting.gradle file located in the project directory then SYNC project after Gradle is complete. Later paste the content back to the file and SYNC again. This not worked for me but for others, it worked.
Another solution is to downgrade the android studio to v 3.6.3 download by clicking here. You can follow these steps to downgrade the android studio. This solution worked for me and now I can build and run the application successfully.
I solved it by navigating to the Project settings in the settings.gradle file and COPY and CUT everything then SYNC the project after gradle is complete PASTE back the content you had copied and SYNC again.

I tried all the solutions above but I didn't succeed so I uninstall android studio and then installed it again and saw all the problems solved and I have no problem . so I recommend you reinstall the program as a last step .

from a week I was updated my Android Studio version to stable version 4.0.0 then I am started getting this errors in my studio and unable to build the app.
Unable to save plugin settings: The plugin org.jetbrains.android failed to save settings and has been disabled. Please restart Android Studio
But I forcefully enabled all plugins in my Studio by going to File-->Settings-->Plugins --> All are enabled.
Select Embedded JDK in Android Studio
Try that:
delete the .idea folder in the android project folder where you faced this problem.
Close Android Studio. Now navigate to your projects .idea folder and rename the workspace.xml file to workspace-o.xml and delete a workspace.xml~ if it exists (i.e., AS has a corrupt workspace layout file).
This should fix the problem. Restart AS and configure the workspace back they way you like it (i.e., it will start with a simple view: View/Tools Windows/Project etc.).
I started my first project in Android Studio and my answer may not be the correct one. I ran into this problem during building the My Activity project. It always came back with this error asking me to restart. Finally I thought that the controlled folder file access is preventing me. I temporarily switched-off the protection(against Ransomware in Windows 10) and tried the Build. I stopped getting these messages. But, I have other problems I am looking into.
I deleted the .idea folder and then I invalidated the cache (file-> invalidate Cache/Restart)
This fixed my issue.

Repair Gradle Installation
This usually happens when something goes wrong in Android Studio's first launch (eg. system crash, connection loss or whatever).
To resolve this issue close Android Studio and delete the following directory's content, necessary files will be downloaded on IDE's next launch.
macOS: ~/.gradle/wrapper/dists
Linux: ~/.gradle/wrapper/dists
Windows: C:\Users\your-username\.gradle\wrapper\dists
While downloading Gradle manually works, I recommend letting Android Studio do the work for you.
UPDATE 17 JULY 2018:
Even if the following solution still works as of today,I've found (thanks to the answer posted by Hamid Asghari and to the comment posted by Mahendra Dabi) that simply deleting the gradle dist directory and performing a reboot of the ide, will fix the issue (please read Hamid post for a full answer, and remember that OSX and Linux have the same gradle path).
If you still want to follow my original solution, you should at least consider using a more up-to-date version of Gradle (direct link of the gradle distribution repo: https://services.gradle.org/distributions/)

I've faced the same issue this morning after upgrading Android Studio to 2.3.
To solve the issue:
1) Manually download Gradle 3.3 binary (direct link: https://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-3.3-bin.zip)
2) Open your android studio root directory, and extract the zip to the gradle folder (for example in my Debian machine the full path is /opt/android-studio/gradle/gradle-3.3)
3) Open Android Studio, go to File->Settings->Build, Exectution, Deployment->Gradle and set "Gradle home" to point your new gradle-3.3 folder.
4) Sync and you are ready to go!
I faced the same issue 2 days ago and today I was able to solve it like this:
Go to this path C:\Users\user_name\.gradle\wrapper\dists where user_name is your username if its you own PC or your company's name.
Delete the latest gradle-****-all files since your latest update of android studio (ex. 2.3 or another version).
If your android studio is open, close it then reopen it. A newer Gradle version will be downloaded, it will take time depending on your internet speed, the download size is around 150-200 MB before extraction so if android studio takes a long time to refresh just know its downloading. (To check the download progress right click on the new gradle folder, go to properties and check the size).
Find 'gradle-wrapper.properties' in root project
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-3.3-all.zip
Change "https" to "http".
There are Following Steps to solve this issue.
1. Go to C:\Users\ ~User Name~ \.gradle\wrapper\dists.
2. Delete all the files and folders from dists folder.
3. If Android Studio is Opened then Close any opened project and Reopen the project. The Android Studio Will automatic download all the required files.
(The required time is as per your Internet Speed (Download Size will be about "89 MB"). To see the progress of the downloading Go to C:\Users\ ~User Name~ \.gradle\wrapper\dists folder and check the size of the folder.)
just remove and reDownload wrapper gradle.

remove gradle version and sync gradle in project and run project.
Go to Project pane> Android > Gradle Scripts and open "graddle-wrapper.properties" file check the distribution URL:
Go to your ".gradle/wrapper/dists/" folder and remove that file for me it was "gradle-5.6.4-all"
Then go back to android studio and click on File > Sync Project with Gradle Files. And it will start to download again

Manually deleted all files from C:\Users\Admin.gradle\wrapper\dists\
where Admin is my user name
Android Studio 4.1.1 has this bug,
In gradle-wrapper.properties

This won't download and always gives 'gradle cache corrupt' error, but a small change makes it work fine
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-6.5-all.zip
Now sync the gradle again and it's done.
1.Go to "/Users/****/.gradle/wrapper/dists/gradle-.-all/*****".
2.Delete the "gradle-.-all.zip.lck" file.
3.Invalidate Cache and Restart.
you do not need to clean all files in dir

and download all of them again
instead you can just delete the folder of gradle version you failed to download. In my case it was gradle-4.4-all so i just deleted that folder and android studio re downloaded gradle-4.4-all for me
In case you don't know version you was downloading:
Just go to help menu > show logs in explorer
their you will find idea.log open it and search for
Could not install Gradle distribution from 'https://services.gradle.org/distribution`
once you find it you will find gradle version you failed to download
This was the best solution for me, just follow this path C:\Users\yourusername.gradle\wrapper\dists then delete all the files inside this folder. Close your android studio and restart it and it will automatically download the updated gradle files.
I was upgrading gradle from 4.1 to 4.10 and my internet connection timed out.
So I fixed this issue by deleting "gradle-4.10-all" folder in .gradle/wrapper/dists
Taking a cue from #Mikel Yang, I found out that instead of deleting the ~/.gradle/wrapper/dists/ folder (which will means downloading the gradle files for different apps on my Android Studio), I decided to change the gradle.wrapper.properties file to any latest gradle --all.zip. So

This happened to me because of a partially downloaded gradle distribution zip
To resolve simply go to below path
"C:/Users/your_username/.gradle"
OR
pull your gradle path from
File->Settings->Build, Exectution, Deployment-> Gradle -> gradle service directory path.
Delete the partially downloaded distribution gradle folder
Go to Studio (no need to restart) and perform gradle sync
Go to "File" in android studio, Click "invalidate caches/Restart" and "Invalidate and Restart"

I faced the issue, In my understanding, It is because of invalid combination of Android Studio And Gradle Plugin versions. I was using Gradle version 5.4.1 and Studio version 3.4, hence I updated the Android studio to 3.5 and the issue got resolved
You can delete the latest gradle-.-all folder from the below path
Windows: C:\Users\your-username.gradle\wrapper\dists
find file gradle-wrapper.properties
update with :
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-6.5.1-all.zip
1). Android studio-> file-> "Invalidate Caches/Restart" -> "Invalidate and Restart"
wait for gradle sync
2). Download gradle.x.x.x-bin.zip using browser

then restart android studio
I have already seen this question.
But that's for Mac OS. I am using windows. Every time I create a new project or try to build/rebuild the project it freezes!! I have installed the latest version(9/10/2016). But things are getting worse. I want to completely remove it and install it as if I would be installing it for the first time. Any help be Appreciated.
To Completely Remove Android Studio from Windows:
Step 1: Run the Android Studio uninstaller
The first step is to run the uninstaller. Open the Control Panel and under Programs, select Uninstall a Program. After that, click on "Android Studio" and press Uninstall. If you have multiple versions, uninstall them as well.
Step 2: Remove the Android Studio files
To delete any remains of Android Studio setting files, in File Explorer, go to your user folder (%USERPROFILE%), and delete .android, .AndroidStudio and any analogous directories with versions on the end, i.e. .AndroidStudio1.2, as well as .gradle and .m2 if they exist.
Then go to %APPDATA% and delete the JetBrains directory.
Also delete the any AndroidStudio* directories that are in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google and %APPDATA%\Google.
Finally, go to C:\Program Files and delete the Android directory.
Step 3: Remove SDK
To delete any remains of the SDK, go to %LOCALAPPDATA% and delete the Android directory.
Step 4: Delete Android Studio projects
Android Studio creates projects in a folder %USERPROFILE%\AndroidStudioProjects, which you may want to delete.
In 2021, If you are looking for uninstall.exe, the latest Android studio version doesn't come with an uninstaller. Download an older version of the Android studio from the Android studio download archive official LINK; you can download Android Studio 4.1.1.
Download the zip files, extract the uninstall.exe from it, and put it in your Android Studio folder; there is no need to install that older version.

I was having a problem installing the latest v4.1.2 as it was having an issue where after I start it, it shows my old blank project, so the things I did were:
Caution: Please move your SDK and projects to a separate location before following steps if you haven't. So it might save your time downloading SDKs and stuff.
1- Uninstall old Android Studio completely (from Control Panel -> Programs).
2- Delete this Android Studio folder located at C:\Users\\<user_name>\AppData\Local\Google
3- Delete this Android Studio folder located at C:\Users\\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Google
4- Delete these folders (.android ,.AndroidStudio*, .gradle) located at C:\Users\\<user_name>
After doing all this, I managed to have fresh updated Android Studio v4.1.2
First go to android studio folder on location that you installed it ( It’s usually in this path by default ; C:\Program Files\Android\Android Studio, unless you change it when you install Android Studio). Find and run uninstall.exe file.
Wait until uninstallation complete successfully, just few minutes, and after click the close.
To delete any remains of Android Studio setting files, in File Explorer, go to C:\Users\%username%, and delete .android, .AndroidStudio(#version-number) and also .gradle, AndroidStudioProjects if they exist. If you want remain your projects, you’d like to keep AndroidStudioProjects folder.
Then, go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming and delete the JetBrains directory.
Note that AppData folder is hidden by default, to make visible it go to view tab and check hidden items in windows8 and10 ( in windows7 Select Folder Options, then select the View tab. Under Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then select OK.
Done, you can remove Android Studio successfully, if you plan to delete SDK tools too, it is enough to remove SDK folder completely.
Firstly, uninstall Android Studio from the control panel using program and features.
Later you also need to enable displaying of hidden files and folders and delete the following:
C:/Users/${yourUserName}/AppData/Local/Android
If you do not have an uninstaller, follow the below steps:
Download and install an old version of Android Studio (eg: android-studio-ide-191.5977832-windows.exe aka Android Studio 3.5.2) from the download archives.
Copy (do not cut) and Paste the uninstall.exe from the installed Android Studio folder in your original Android Studio folder. Now, run the uninstall.exe which you just pasted, this will start the uninstall process for your original Android Studio.
After the original Android Studio is uninstalled, proceed to run the uninstaller in the old version of Android Studio that you downloaded.
After the old Android Studio is uninstalled, follow this to completely remove any leftover Android Studio related files, folders etc.
Now your system has no Android Studio.
In my case - Windows 10 Home, for removing previous settings, I had to delete AndroidStudioX from C:\Users\<Your User>\AppData\Roaming\Google as well.
Complementary to the 1st and 2nd upvoted answers, also take a look if anything like Android Studio folder remains at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ to avoid wrong references in future installations.

latest Android Studio in 2022, March
has an uninstall.exe in the root directory.
For me uninstalling from "Windows Remove Programms View" didn't work, failing with error popup.
But going to the installation directory and just executing uninstall.exe just works perfectly.
I tried multiple times to get a clean install without success.
I found if I still had the AndroidStudioProjects folder then Android would naturally go to my last project I was working on and start to build that project.
I made a copy of that folder and saved my code to the desktop. Then I deleted the AndroidStudioProjects folder and I had the option of a completely fresh install.
