In Eclipse IDE I am trying to connect Android SDK to Eclipse.
I installed ADT plugin by,
Help - > Install new Software https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse
Then installed SDK by Windows - > preferences , Android SDK was also installed, but I don't see the "Android Application" in the menu as shown in screenshot. Also I don't see the "Android" option that should be available in the top right corner(as shown in the screenshot).
My Questions
Have I installed the ADT and configured Android SDK properly ?
Why am I unable to run the Android application ?
Please let me know if further details are needed.
You have to add a run configuration, then there will be displayed this added configuration.
Edit:
After installing the Android plugin in eclipise I needed to reimport the project, then everything worked fine.
Have you set your Android SDK path in Windows -> Preferences yet? that should be first step.
If you have already done that, then goto Help -> Install New Software and click on Already installed link. Check whether you can see ADT installed in the list of installed packages?

I've just formatted and installed a fresh windows 10. Next, I downloaded Android Studio and didn't see the Android SDK option to install.
Android_Studio_Install_Option
I installed it nevertheless. Naturally, after I opened Android Studio, it opened a window saying that it needs Android SDK to work properly. I went to Android Studio homepage again, and downloaded
SDK Command Line
Extracted it to c:\program files\android . I opened Android Studio again and tried to pinpoint the tools folder inside c:\program files\android\tools as the location of SDK and received this warning:
not valid home for SDK
I typed CMD with administrator rights, entered the tools folder, and executed android update sdk and it downloaded some files and wrote after a while repositores.cfg could not be loaded.
I am out of options now. I need the SDK to compile ! I can't find an offline install on internet. How can Android Studio be installed without the SDK ? I do not understand... and before you ask, there's no android folder on c:\users\my_user\AppData\local ...is there a bug on the latest Android Studio install program? I can't have SDK already installed because this is a fresh install of windows 10. Help on this matter will be much aprecciated.
If you can open Android Studio then go to Tools --> Android --> SDK manager and you should be able to install or uninstall SDKs from there
I had similar problem. I had settings imported from my previous Android Studio installation and my Android SDK Location was set to a folder which was empty. I couldn't figure out how to download new Android SDK but after clicking "Edit" next to "Android SDK Location" (in Default Settings > Appearance & Behavior > System Setttins > Android SDK) Android Studio opened a dialog box where I could choose to install/update my SDK or just selected components of it.
I am getting this error:
I have installed ADT and SDK using install new software in Eclipse. I am using Eclipse Java EE IDE for Web Developers. Version: Kepler Service Release 2.
I used this link https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
I do not know where the SDK is getting installed as it being done through Eclipse. Which path should I provide to remove this error. Actually I cannot even set a path as the OK button in preferences window remains disabled.
What can be the issue.
I know this has be address earlier but could not get what I am looking for hence added a new thread.
I do not know where the SDK is getting installed as it being done through Eclipse.
Not if you installed the ADT plugin separately. You need to download and install the Android SDK (see "SDK Tools Only"), then teach the ADT plugin where you installed it.
Also note that support for the ADT Plugin has been officially discontinued by Google.
Choose Window>preferences>Android
In the SDK location Text Box you need to browse the location of Android SDK, to let eclipse know where the android SDK is, and same for the ADT by chhosing HELP>Install new Software...
I had faced same problem and get solution....
In Eclipse go to Help
Install New Software ---> Add
Inside Add Repository write the Name: ADT (or, as you want)
and Location: https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
after loading some time you will get Developer Tools.
check Developer Tool
click Next
Finish
Your problem will solved.
I have deleted folder .android in my user folder (c:/users/xyz/.android) and relaunched Eclipse - dialog box "Android SDK installation" (not exact name) has came up - then install of SDK.
I just downloaded the Android Studio .dmg for OSX. Per the installation instructions, I've dragged it to the application folder and launched the application.
But the SDK Manager and AVD Manager are greyed out and are impossible to use.
Any ideas on an installation step I may have missed?
For people coming for this same problem for Windows: you won't have an Android SDK anywhere if it is your first time with Android. Also, here the Android Studio doesn't come with a packed SDK Manager, so you need to download one.
So this is what you may do:
Download the SDK Manager and an Android SDK
Download the SDK Manager from: http://developer.android.com/sdk/. Use the link that says "Get the SDK for an existing IDE".
Execute the downloaded installer.
Execute this program with administrator rights: SDK Manager.exe
Download the proposed SDK (if you get errors regarding the SDK Manager couldn't create some folders, remember it should be executed as administrator).
Configure Android Studio to work with the new SDK
Open Android Studio and in the Quick Start window click "Configure", you will see the SDK Manager greyed out.
Go to "Project Defaults", then to "Project Structure" and there it will ask for the path where you installed the SDK.
If you click OK and go back you will see the SDK Manager is no longer greyed out, and now you can start creating projects.
A project needs to have been loaded at least once for the link to become available.
Found it in :
File / Project Structure...
Then in "Android SDK" provide the path to the SDK folder inside the Android Studio Application Bundle.
Then Make a new project.
Then after the initial setup the elements where finally enabled.
Android Studio Beta v0.8.14 with the Android SDK for Mac does not appear to include the SDK: you need to install the SDK manually (e.g. https://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/index.html?pkg=tools) and then configure Android Studio to find and use it.
(I ended up using the ADT bundle, since I couldn't seem to find the SDK as a standalone download.)
You need to use the buttons on the welcome dialog, and not on the applications menu bar or preferences (as I had initially thought). Step by step:
(Note that "SDK Manager" is greyed out until you complete this, at which point you cannot undo it for the purposes of taking screenshots...)
Navigate back and the "SDK Manager" button on the "Configure" panel should be enabled. Clicking it should display something like this:
I had a similar problem and the cause was that I've used path with a space in it. There was a warning in the window that can cause problems with NDK, but in fact it caused problems with Android Studio internal SDK as well. After changing the path it works fine.
Go to configure -> project defaults -> project structure
give the path for the SDK and press OK.
It should work now
For Mac Users (Android Studio Beta v0.8.14)
The SDK or SDK manager is not included with this version of Android Studio, and the documentation is obfuscated regarding this change at this point.
Download the standalone SDK from here. You may select the latest revision of the same from this link below the title GET THE SDK FOR AN EXISTING IDE.
Extract the downloaded zip, and rename the folder as sdk
Copy the sdk folder into the Android Studio.app/Contents directory
Restart Android Studio and you will be shown this dialog when the Android Studio starts up
To remove grey out area,
you need to follow this steps as below:
Go to File
Click on Project Structure
Go to SDK Location
Click on Browse to find SDK path
Select proper SDK path on your system
Now click on SDK manager icon on Android Studio toolbar
I hope this solves the problem of grey out area.
Thanks,
This will no longer be a problem when version 1.0 is released. In the meanwhile you can download the latest canary build (1.0 RC2), which downloads the SDK during the setup.
For me, the issue was on windows and it was as simple as launching the installer with "administrative" mode. That's it!
I downloaded Indigo Eclipse and installed the ADT from Eclipse Marketplace but its not showing up in the Eclipse/Preference plugin list.
I also tried removing the ADT from eclipse and the software site "https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/" from "available software sites" and then reinstalled the ADT from "https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/" using help->install new software. The installation was successful, but I still don't have any option for shortcuts to the SDK manager or the AVD in eclipse, and neither can I create a new android project.
By the way, when i check on the available software then its showing the ADT installed.
I also checked under:
Window > Custom Perspective (you will see Android and AVD Manager were disable)
Command Groups Availability > BUT CANT FIND Android SDK and AVD Manager
Also, I Checked under
Window -> show View -> other -> Plugin Development -> Plugin Registry
In the plugin registry search for com.android.ide.eclipse.adt
Select , Right Click -> Diagnose.
It shows the following problems were found:
Missing required bundle com.android.ide.eclipse.base_0.0.0
Missing required bundle com.android.ide.eclipse.ddms_0.0.0
I DONT KNOW WHAT IS ABOVE REQUIREMENT OR I AM MISSING SOMETHING, Any IDEA?
You first need to follow these instructions:
Here
You need to have downloaded Android SDK Tools and then follow the above instructions
Then,
Install Elcipse Plugin
If you follow these steps exactly and it still doesn't work I would try uninstalling the IDE and starting from scratch.
The easiest thing to do, is to install the Android Developer Tools (ADT) which includes a customised version of Eclipse which also contains the SDK for Android Development.
You will in this manner avoid the issues you are currently experiencing.
You can find the link below:

Yesterday I tried to install titanium appcelerator and in the process I edited some of the android sdk installations Now I have updated my android sdk to rev 20. But when i start eclipse i get an error that sdk requires version 20.0.0 or above. I tried to install by using eclipse->help->check for updates-> but again the installation doesn't work claiming that required items could not be found. Please help
Goto Help → Install New Software.
In there you click the work with: dropdown and select your android adt link.
Then it will show the list of things to install choose it click next.
I also got the same error and I solved it from updating adt.
Go to : Eclipse → Help → Install New Software and click the work with drop down and select android adt link that you have used previously. It looks like this :
android ADT - https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/.
Tick the developers tools check box and click next. If you have already installed some of them, then eclipse will notify you.
Better to Download Latest Eclipse Setup Juno http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/ open this link and download this version
Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers
What I did was to uninstall the latest ADT and go back to a previous ADT. It worked.
Go to Help → Install New Software - look for the already installed hyperlink. Uninstall all ADT's. Restart Eclipse and it will tell you the ADT you need for the revision tools you have. Download this ADT and install it manually. It should at least work.
I got the same error, I solved this by updating the Android SDK tools and Android SDK platform tools. From Eclipse → Window → Android SDK Manager, then Update Tools → Android SDK Tools and Android SDK platform tools packages. After this restart the eclipse and then update the ADT again. (Help → Check for new Updates).
This is the best and quick solution:
Open SDK manager -> Packages menu -> Reload
if You have to update ADT 20.0 otherwise it's not work and also not list the Number of SDK install.
i have that problem and fix by updating ADT 20.0 , also Good User Interface.
I suspected that something was wrong with my configuration, as I shouldn't have to suddenly update the ADT when everything had been previously working.
BTW, I got this with "Android ADT version required 21.0.0 and above".
To fix it, I:
Reinstalled eclipse (which is quite easy, as the zip was still in my Downloads, so I just deleted my eclipse directory and unzip the original again - eclipse doesn't use the registry)
Created a "hello_world" java app, in eclipse, to test that (fixing any problems with the standard searches");
Created a "hello_world" Android app to test that (fixing any problems with the standard searches).
Reverted my project files to the last known working version,
Imported my project, and fixed an problems, etc...
About an hour's work. No downloads (assuming you've still got your eclipse zip), no update to the ADT, and no obscure problems which I haven't faced before.
This person (http://kcwebprogrammers.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/android-sdk-eclipse-hell.html) recommends a complete re-install, but it seems that a partial restoration may work.
I too had the same problem. I resolved it by doing the following in Eclipse:
Go to Help -> Check for Updates -> Install all the Updates available.
only check on Android Development Tools then press next and accept install it :)

In Eclipse (ADT)
Help --> Install New Software ---> Work with --> Android Developer
Tools Update Site - http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/
Select all of the updates you want to install and UNCHECK option "Contact all update sites during install to find required software". After that everything should install as it is mentioned to be.
