What I need to know is, Is it even Possible to view an app within another
app?
I have tried to find out how but I found much topics speaking about launching apps from another only
For example: To have an application that views the file manager, specific music player and google chrome and be able to switch between them with something like tabs?
You will have to do an IPC for what you like to acheive. have a look at this link. Though am not sure if you can run it the way you want.

my goal is to get a video from a usb connected device (an easycap video grabber) displayed. There is already an android app that does exactly that. However i need to add some buttons and some extra functions to it. So i came to the idea of displaying the app that already exists inside my app. Is that possible in any way?
I already tried to decompile the existing app to edit the code a bit but i didn't get anything to work with.
Do you have any other idea? If you know how to program that please let me know what i need to achieve that.
Thank you!
This cannot be done due to security reasons in the Android OS itself.
Android provides a security layer called the Sandbox in which the OS assigns a User ID for each app, so that an app will not have permission to access resources from another app.
I know it may sound weird but i was wondering for few days that can i launch any android app in my android app's layout? I searched in the google but couldn't find any answer.I know that app's have ability to send the user to another app based on an "action" it would like to perform. But i would like to know can i run the app in my app's layout??Suppose i have an app that has a layout called activity_main and now i want to replace the activity_main's layout with the app i want to call so that the called app is running inside my app. Thanks in advance to anyone who can clear my doubt??
can i launch any android app in my android app's layout?
No.
You cannot run any Android App inside your App.
But, you can run a WebApp [thats adaptive designed] inside your Android App.
I am trying to archive same thing as done in "hierarchyviewer" tool, which dumps the tree of Views present at any given moment on the device or emulator screen.
But i want it to be an Application running on a Android device. This app will keep running in background like a Serve and will dump the currently displayed Views in a text file.
Is it possible? is there any code examples are available?
Is it possible?
No.
The closest you can come is to implement an AccessibilityService. This would more closely mirror the uiautomatorviewer functionality, giving you a subset of what you see in Hierarchy View. This also requires a double-opt-in by the user: the user must install your app and activate it in Settings in the accessibility area.
As far as I know, you couldn't access other apps if they do not explicity share that info with you by the use of Intents (or if you own these other apps).
So, based on this limitation, my bets are you can't access another app's View Tree by regular means. And if you chould, I think you shouldn't, as this is somehow "secret" to other apps, and you'd be registering information without permission. In fact, what hierarchyview uses is, for sure, some sort of trick that directly uses internal private libraries of Android. Like taking a screenshot, that you can't do with the "default" implementation, but using these kind of testing tools.
That being said, check this answer, where it shows how to get the current app in foreground. From here, getting the View tree should be impossible, but as long as you could call getWindow() on that app's current activity, this could be done.
I have an Android app that I would like to add the ability for the user to "cast" what is displayed on the app to a Chromecast. It could just be a local JPG but I would prefer the user to actually see actual "live" content of the app. Does anyone know if this is possible? I know there are apps like AllCast but wasn't sure if they were using supported features of the SDK or if it was a hack. I found some mention of the Default Media Receiver but could not find any documentation on how to use it with local content. Any advice or direction would be appreciated.
There is no Cast api to do that directly; you can look into WebRTC or something of that nature.
The way I do it is to use the Presentation class. The only problem is that you do need to use the ChromeCast app to start screen mirroring before you start your app.
I have not yet found a way to start mirroring my app (or, to be more precise, to show the contents of your Presentation class) from a ChromeCast UIButton within my app, even though I have been able to get that cast button working and connecting ... just not to start app-mirroring when using only my in-app chromecast button.
Alright so I have an app that I would like to have utilize other apps. For example I have an app that does quite a number of things except for a directory look up since there is already an app that does that for my school. I know I can launch the application with intents, but that also brings them away from the navigation menu for my application. Is there anyway that I could run an app inside a view layout. I am not hopeful for this but I figured I would chance asking it anyway.
This is technically possible by using widgets. You can implement an AppWidgetHost, and other applications can create App Widgets to use inside your own app. This is how the launcher screen in Android works.
This, of course, will only work if other applications in question implement widgets. So, the general answer to your question would be no, it is not possible to host arbitrary applications or Views/Activities from other applications inside your own.
This not the Android design philosophy. You should send an Intent to the directory app, which I hope is designed to look up a result and then return it to you. The mechanism is startActivityForResult() in your app, and setResult() in the directory app.
