Set Height of Inner RecyclerView wrap_content - android

I have a recyclerview inside another recyclerview. I want to make height of inner recyclerview "warp_content".
I came to know it is possible with new version of recyclerview which is mentioned below.
'com.android.support:recyclerview-v7:23.2.0'
But the problem is, by setting height = wrap_content I can see only first item.
Any Help will be great.

On both of these pages people suggest to extend LinearLayoutManager and to override onMeasure()
RecyclerView doesn't have the wrap_content by default. You have to use the RecyclerView with wrap_content Layout Manager such as, WrapLinearLayoutManager e.g CustomLinearLayoutManager .

Setting recyclerview item works for me.
Outer wrapper relative layout is added intentionally to address issue layout_height="wrap_content" does NOT
occupy the height of all the elements added to it via adapter. The result is cut out
items that is outside of device viewport when it loads initially.
Wrapping "RecyclerView" with "RelativeLayout" fixes the issue on Marshmallow devices.

RecyclerView scrolling and height regulating issue

I have one RecyclerView as an item, inside a card in another vertical RecyclerView.
I have problems with scrolling and regulating the child recycler view height(flexible height).
Have anyone experienced similar issues ? Workarounds ?
My solution:
First of all set your child recycler view height to wrap_content

After that you should create your custom layout manager class ,extend it from LinearLayoutManager and override onMeasure() and measureScrapChild() methods.

Android - Performance issue on RecyclerView inside a NestedScrollView

I have a NestedScrollView in which RecyclerView and a RelativeLayout lies inside..
It's basically this way

I am using a CustomLinearLayoutManager and recyclerView.setNestedScrollingEnabled(false); in order to scroll both RelativeLayout and RecyclerView together, else, only the RecyclerView will scroll, the RelativeLayout will just stay on top of it.
Whenever the RecyclerView loads new data, it freezes for 3-5 seconds which is very bad for user experience.. This is the CustomLayoutManager which I am using..

android-recycleview inside scrollview

the problem with this code is that when I run the activity , only the recycleview scrolls , I don't want that, I want if I scroll down ,the whole page scrolls down not just the recycle .
How can I make the whole page scroll ?
Three steps to do this:
Replace your scrollview with NestedScrollView with layout behaviour set to app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
Keep all your widgets under a linear/relative layout(because nested scroll view accepts only one child)

Nested RecyclerView too tall

I have a RecyclerView named DogRecyclerView. I have another RecyclerView called FoodRecyclerView. FoodRecyclerView happens to be one of the many layouts of DogRecyclerView (i.e. one of the ViewHolders). DogRecyclerView is a list. FoodRecyclerView is actually as below. The problem is that the view below is not wrapping the content but rather it is taking more height than it should. How might I fix this?

Support for WRAP_CONTENT and generally auto-measuring the size of the RecyclerView based on its content is one of the headlines features of the Support Library 23.2.0 release. As long as you are using an included LayoutManager, you should get this behavior for free.

Nested Recycler view height doesn't wrap its content

I have an application that manage collections of books (like playlists).
I want to display a list of collection with a vertical RecyclerView and inside each row, a list of book in an horizontal RecyclerView.
When i set the layout_height of the inner horizontal RecyclerView to 300dp, it is displayed correctly but when i set it to wrap_content, it doesn't display anything.
I need to use wrap_content because I want to be able to change the layout manager programmatically to switch between vertical and horizontal display.
Do you know what i'm doing wrong ?

Many issues relating to this feature in version 23.2.0 have been fixed in 23.2.1, update to that instead.

This release brings an exciting new feature to the LayoutManager API: auto-measurement! This allows a RecyclerView to size itself based on the size of its contents. This means that previously unavailable scenarios, such as using WRAP_CONTENT for a dimension of the RecyclerView, are now possible. You’ll find all built in LayoutManagers now support auto-measurement.
This can be disabled via setAutoMeasurementEnabled() if need be. Check in detail here.
The code up above doesn't work well when you need to make your items "wrap_content", because it measures both items height and width with MeasureSpec.UNSPECIFIED. After some troubles I've modified that solution so now items can expand. The only difference is that it provides parents height or width MeasureSpec depends on layout orientation.

Existing layout manager do not yet support wrap content.
You can create a new LayoutManager that extends the existing one and overrides onMeasure method to measure for wrap content.
As #yiğit mentioned, you need to override onMeasure(). Both #user2302510 and #DenisNek have good answers but if you want to support ItemDecoration you can use this custom layout manager.
And other answers cannot scroll when there are more items than can be displayed on the screen though. This one is using default implemantation of onMeasure() when there are more items than screen size.

An alternative to extend LayoutManager can be just set the size of the view manually.
Number of items per row height (if all the items have the same height and the separator is included on the row)

It is in no way my solution. I have just copied it from there, but I hope it will help someone as much as it helped me when implementing horizontal RecyclerView and wrap_content height (should work also for vertical one and wrap_content width)
The solution is to extend the LayoutManager and override its onMeasure method as #yigit suggested.

Specifically, we shouldn't use View.MeasureSpec.UNSPECIFIED for both the width and height when calling measureScrapChild as that won't properly account for wrapped text in the child. Android Support Library now handles WRAP_CONTENT property as well. Just import this in your gradle.

Based on the work of Denis Nek,
it works well if the sum of item's widths is smaller than the size of the container. other than that, it will make the recyclerview non scrollable and only will show subset of the data.
to solve this problem, i modified the solution alittle so that it choose the min of the provided size and calculated size. see below:

You can set how many items should appear on a row (replace the 3).
