Android: Get current location in onResume activity - android

I am trying to get current location using GPS. So First I am checking GPS is enable or not. If GPS is disable at that time am showing alert and redirect user to enable GPS from Settings. When GPS is enable then redirect Settings to my App at that time in onResume activity I am getting 0.00 current location. How can I get instant current location when enable GPS.
Thanks in advance.

txtLong.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
txtLat.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
txtLocation.setText("Your Location is - \nLat: " + latitude + "\nLong: " + longitude);
txtLong.setText(Double.toString(longitude));
txtLat.setText(Double.toString(latitude));
}
Log.d("latitude onResume:: :: :: ::", String.valueOf(latitude));
Log.d("longitude onResume:: :: :: ::", String.valueOf(longitude));
}
} else if (!gps_enabled && !network_enabled) {
alertDialog();
}
}

#komal It always take time to get the Location , depending upon the provider and the place . GPS take signal from min 3 satellite and do uses trilateration , so depending upon the signal strength and ur location it could take time . Even Google Map app take upto 10 sec to get Lat/Lng sometime. You should use FusedLocationProvider from Google Play services
Try this demo https://github.com/googlesamples/android-play-location/tree/master/LocationUpdates

Have you added the permission to your manifest?
<uses-permission android:name="android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" />
I think it is not possible to get the location immediately after enabling GPS. GPS needs to fix the ambiguities and estimate your location.
If you need a location immediately you can you the coarse location. However, this location is much inaccurate than GPS.

Try this class to get the latitude and longitude

How to get current coordinates/location in android

I've been working on trying to get the current location in android since several days but I didn't find a solution yet.
I know there are similar topics regarding this but in my case the code it didn't work. Is there anyone who has already solved this issue and can help me?
I add some tests I did.
Here's the GPS Tracker class.
package utility;
import android.app.AlertDialog;
import android.app.Service;
import android.content.Context;
import android.content.DialogInterface;
import android.content.Intent;
import android.location.Location;
import android.location.LocationListener;

double longitude = 0.0;
gps = new GPSTracker(AroundMeActivity.this);
// check if GPS enabled
if(gps.canGetLocation())
{
latitude = gps.getLatitude();
longitude = gps.getLongitude();
}
else
{
gps.showSettingsAlert();
}
location_text.setText(latitude + " " + longitude);
}
}
The results is 0.0 for both latitude and longitude.
Thank you in advance guys!!!
Use android LocationMannager
Checkout androidhive tutorial about Android GPS, Location Manager to get started
Here is a great library, very easy to use and lightweight: https://github.com/mrmans0n/smart-location-lib
Just compile it with gradle and thats' it.

Android GPS tracker return everytime 0 for the longitude and latitude

I m trying to get the user location using the service that i call in my mainActivity.I believe i made already all the work needed but the problem i get back everytime 0 for the longitude and 0 for latitude !
I added user permission too but its not working !
This is the service class:
public class GPSTracker extends Service implements LocationListener{
private final Context context;
boolean isGPSEnabled = false;
boolean isNetworkEnabled = false;
boolean canGetLocation = false;
Location location;
double latitude;
double longitude;
private static final long MIN_DISTANCE_CHANGE_FOR_UPDATES = 10;
private static final long MIN_TIME_BW_UPDATES = 1000 * 60 * 1;
protected LocationManager locationManager;

if(location != null) {
latitude = location.getLatitude();
longitude = location.getLongitude();
}
}
}
}
}
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
return location;
}
public void stopUsingGPS() {
if(locationManager != null) {
locationManager.removeUpdates(GPSTracker.this);
}
}
public double getLatitude() {
if(location != null) {
latitude = location.getLatitude();
}
return latitude;
}
public double getLongitude() {
if(location != null) {
longitude = location.getLongitude();
}
return longitude;
}
public boolean canGetLocation() {
return this.canGetLocation;
}
public void showSettingsAlert() {
AlertDialog.Builder alertDialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(context);
alertDialog.setTitle("GPS is settings");
alertDialog.setMessage("GPS is not enabled. Do you want to go to settings menu?");
alertDialog.setPositiveButton("Settings", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
Intent intent = new Intent(Settings.ACTION_LOCATION_SOURCE_SETTINGS);
context.startActivity(intent);
}
});
alertDialog.setNegativeButton("Cancel", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) {
dialog.cancel();
}
});
alertDialog.show();
}
#Override
public void onLocationChanged(Location arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
this.location = location;
getLatitude();
getLongitude();
}
#Override
public void onProviderDisabled(String arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub

#Override

// TODO Auto-generated method stub
}
#Override
public IBinder onBind(Intent intent) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
return null;
}
}
and this is how i call it in the mainActivity:
public class MainActivity extends Activity {
GPSTracker gps;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
gps = new GPSTracker(MainActivity.this);
if (gps.canGetLocation()) {
double latitude = gps.getLatitude();
double longitude = gps.getLongitude();
Log.v("Your LOCATION is -" + "Lat:", latitude + "Long: " + longitude );
Toast.makeText(
getApplicationContext(),
"Your LOCATION is -\nLat: " + latitude + "\nLong: "
+ longitude, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
} else {
gps.showSettingsAlert();
}
}
}
All suggestions are welcome
So thanks to Dainel i found out how it works !
For the people having the same problem as me just use google play services using this code from this link
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION permission gives a cell tower precision on Android
and to make it as a service just use the intent on the main this way :
Intent GPSt = new Intent(this, yourClassName.class);
startService(GPSt);
Well, to be honest, I'm not too familiar with the GPSTracker, but I would at least recommend changing
public void onLocationChanged(Location arg0) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
this.location = location;
getLatitude();
getLongitude();
}
From what I gather, the "arg0" is the updated location and never used in the method. I would recommend changing it to.
public void onLocationChanged(Location currentLocation) {
this.location = currentLocation;
getLatitude();
getLongitude();
}
Might I suggest you try restructuring the GPS portion of your code? There is a new Location API that is much easier to use than LocationManager and is not fraught with so many implementation concerns.
Fused Location Provider API manages concerns like Power Management for issues surrounding battery. A good example is located on Github

i have searched a lot and couldn't make it work any help please.
Make Array_list of you latLng :-
Then Try This
arraylist_lat_lon.add(new LatLng(location.getLatitude(), location
.getLongitude()));
/************************** Drawing polyline if there are more than 1 latlngs **************/
if (arraylist_lat_lon.size() > 1) {
PolylineOptions polyline_options = new PolylineOptions()
.addAll(arraylist_lat_lon).color(Color.GREEN).width(2);
polyline = googleMap.addPolyline(polyline_options);

Use the received location and feed it to the GeoCoder or the Geocoding API.
The GeoCoder is part of the SDK since API Level 1 and results in an ArrayList of Address Objects.
Geocoding is a web-service, which responses a JSON.
Both solutions are delivering detailed information and can be used for geocoding (location to address) or reverse geocoding (address to location).
Edit:
Use the GeoCoder like this:
if(GeoCoder.isPresent()) {
Geocoder geocoder = new Geocoder(this);
List<Address> addresses = null;
try {
addresses = geocoder.getFromLocationName(latitude, longitude, 1);
if (!addresses.isEmpty()) {
Address address = list.get(0);
// do something with your address
} else {
// No results for your location
}
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
