In your manifest, add the following attribute to the opening <application> tag.
android:supportsRtl="true"
Then add this attribute to the opening SlidingPaneLayout tag in your layout.

And finally, move the tool_bar <include> element into the main content LinearLayout within the SlidingPaneLayout, and adjust the ImageView's height and weight.

Please note that the child Views of the SlidingPaneLayout will inherit the rtl layoutDirection. This may cause problems in child Views if their layout behavior is affected by the direction. For example, a horizontally-oriented LinearLayout will lay out its children starting from the right. This is easily remedied by setting android:layoutDirection="ltr" on the affected Views.
Also note that this example hard codes the direction in the layout. If you need to support both LTR and RTL layouts application-wide, you'll need to do this programmatically, accounting for the device's default direction.

I have a viewpager which contains a layout with scrollview as parent and webview as child.I had never faced a problem with portrait mode however in landscape mode it's acting very strange.
The screen is taking portrait height(which i'm assuming) in landscape too.
So the scrollview is getting activated when scrolling down.
If I block the touch by putting requestDisallowInterceptTouchEvent(true); but if I do that i'm unable to move to next page.
I gave the following in configChanges

You don't need to implement ScrollView for WebView. It's already have that feature it self.
Enable NestedScrolling on parent layout:
parent.setNestedScrollingEnabled(true);
or wrap your entire layout inside NestedScrollView:

I'm trying to achieve the following view in a chat app. There are basically two states one with the soft touch keyboard showing and one without.
So this is my initial state without the keyboard showing.

I'm current using "adjust-resize" as the windowSoftInputMode. I know using "adjust-pan" will fix the issue, but with "adjust-pan" there are 2 problems :
The toolbar also moves up making space for the edit-text and keyboard.
The editText gets partly covered by the keyboard.
A layout experts help is needed here!

So here is what I think you should do,
use
windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize" - The activity's main window is always resized to make room for the soft keyboard on screen. Also adjustResize keeps the ToolBar on top.
Try adding both your LinearLayouts inside a NestedScrollView. The reason I say this is because your NestedScrollView contents can scroll up.

To begin with, I am aware of Recycler problems in old versions of libs. My current version of lib is 24.2.1.

Finally found the solution. It is better to use Relative layout. Not sure why this problem came up in LinearLayout, but the following xml structure worked:

ScrollView should never have a wrap_content height
manage the height of recyclerview according to the number of child items it contain, it may solve the height issue
For the life of me, I cannot get this Toolbar to layout on top (note: not above, but on top of) its sibling LinearLayout. The only way I can get the Toolbar to overlay its sibling is by specifying the Toolbar's elevation to be > 0, but this doesn't work for pre-5.0.
I am using a parent FrameLayout, and the child Toolbar is located after its sibling LinearLayout in the XML. What am I missing? Even the Android Studio preview pane shows the Toolbar on top of the LinearLayout

Turns out I had a fragment committing the linear layout over the main activity, which already contained it. Oops!
That's because of FrameLayout.
If you want to use FrameLayout, the views will not relate each other.
So all you need to do is ...
set "height of toolbar" to MarginTop of LinearLayout.

I have lot of items on the screen and I need to use the scrollbar so the user can scroll down. However, the scroll is either not visible or it's not working. How is it possible to add a scrollbar to a LinearLayout?

Here is how I did it by trial and error.
ScrollView - (the outer wrapper).
LinearLayout (child-1).
LinearLayout (child-1a).
LinearLayout (child-1b).
Since ScrollView can have only one child, that child is a linear layout. Then all the other layout types occur in the first linear layout. I haven't tried to include a relative layout yet, but they drive me nuts so I will wait until my sanity returns.
you need to use the following attribute and enclose it within the linear layout

You need to place ScrollView as the first child of Layout file and now put your linearlayout inside it. Now, android will decide on the basis of content and device size available whether to show a scrollable or not.
Make sure linearlayout has no sibling because ScrollView can not have more than one child.

Whenever you wanted to make a layout scrollable, you can use <ScrollView> With a layout or component in it.
