Grid.Invalidate in Fragment from FragmentActivity - android

I am nuebie in Android. I suppose i am try run code from non UI thread. How i can update my grid in Fragment. I have activity SimpleImageActivity. In this Activity i am waiting Back key and I am trying update my data in GridView. Method invalidate() postInvalidate() nothing doing.

How i can update my GridView? When triggering method public void onBackPres() { in fragment gridView.invalidate - don't working because gridView = null.
When in activity use handler.postDelayed(new Runnable() { gV return my GridView, but
gV.invalidate();
gV.postInvalidate();
nothing doing and execute without any errors.

What causes a fragment to get detached from an Activity?

I have a SignupActivity which will go through several fragments as users go through a signup process. On the last fragment, I'm calling
getActivity().setResult(Activity.RESULT_OK)
since SingupActivity intent was started for result. Some users are crashing at this point, because getActivity() is producing a NPE. I'm not able to figure out what is causing this. Screen rotation is disabled, so there is no reason that I know of for the fragment to detach from the Activity.
Any insight as to what may be causing this, and how I can resolve it?

According to Fragment lifecycle in Android OS, you cannot get the Activity associated with the fragment in the onCreateView, because the Activity with which the Fragment is associated will not be created at that stage.

As you can see the Activity is created in onActivityCreated which is after onCreateView, hence you'll get null if you try to call the Activity in the onCreateView. Try to call it in onActivityCreated or in onStart that should solve your problem.

Fragment use is mandatory in Android 4.4

As per the Android 4.4 developer guideline we have to use Fragment in each activity. If we make inner fragment class non-static then Android will crash our app when it comes from background to foreground so we need to make the fragment class static. In that case all the variables and classes which have been used in the fragment class (other than fragment class variable) should be static.
I think that will consume more VM memory and the app will be unstable. Can anyone suggest if I am right? Or suggest if there is other way to overcome that problem.

Trying to access a Fragment from another thread to change TextView text

I am making an app that is using Fragments and wish to change the text in a TextView based on a message received in a client thread communicating with a laptop. The client server communication is no issue as the client thread is receiving the strings just fine.
I can't seem to properly figure out how to access the fragments TextView and alter its text.
Here is how I am currently trying to do so:

In this case, MainActivity is the activity extending FragmentActivity.
I'm using an emulator and the app always crashing saying there was a null pointer exception at the line using frag.setText("Inside ClientThread right now"), which I believe means that the instance of LivingRoomFragment is null. It is to my understanding so far that this is supposed to be executed using a Handler because you cannot access the UI from a thread without using a method like this.
What am I doing wrong?
I am not sure, try

So I have implemented interface OnSetLastSeenListener with my child fragment StudentsFragment . Now I'm calling method of tht interface updateLastSeen() from my container activity with thread. But it is not getting trigger to child fragment where I have implemented interface. So I don't know whether it is good way to communicate or not? Let me take your help to suggest on this solution or best way to communicate from child fragment to parent activity.

It is better to use interface when you want to communicate something from Fragment to Activity and not vice versa.
In your case, you can directly call the method in Fragment from Activity through fragment object. No need to use interface.
Something like this (For static fragments)

For dynamic fragment you can use the fragment object directly.

AsynkTask within Fragment within a ViewPager

First of all, I am relatively new to android programming.
I am creating a ViewPager application with two Fragments. One of the Fragments requests data from a server and return a result to the main FragmentActivity. My problem is that this request to the server can take sometime, and I have been trying to get a ProgressDialog to appear with AsyncTask while the user waits for the data to be retrieved. Once I create the background thread to retrieve the data, I successfully execute some code in the onPostExecute() method and set some variables. However, the return statement that sends information back to the FragmentActivity is being executed before the background thread actually ends. I can't seem to figure out a way for the main thread to wait on the background thread. Using Asyctask's get() method results in the ProgressDialog from appearing. I have looked through a lot of posts in here, but can't seem to find an answer.
