I am attempting to use a vector resource for ic_launcher icon, android studio uses it without problems and generate one apk that works perfectly on the device. But when I try to upload to the Play Store is rejected due to invalid icon.
Play store doesnt recognize that format as they also needs an image for there storage n it's needed to be ico, png, jpeg formats..

I've 100's of .gif images to be used in a android application that I'm trying to build. Can any one suggest me how should I minimize their size. And should I place them in drawable directory.
Google play has a limit on APK size which can be uploaded to playstore(if I am not wrong its 100Mb), so having so many .gif files inside application drawable folder will not be a solution.
Best solution I could think of right now is via Dynamic asset delivery by google play.
Please go through below for more info on asset delivery

I am trying the Asset Studio to generate the icons for my app.
Here is the Asset Studio doc : https://developer.android.com/studio/write/image-asset-studio
Nevertheless, I am not sure to understand what is the role of the "Google Play Store" icon generated by this Asset Studio.
Will this icon (that is then included in my bundle) will replace my icon on Google Play ?
I see in the Legacy tab, that I can select Google Play Store Icon => Generate => No. What is the impact on my app (and Google Play icon that can be seen by the users) if I select 'No' ?
By the way, the Asset Studio show many kinds of icons : circle, squirle, rounded square, square, full bleed layers, legacy icon... What is the purpose of each type of these icons ? Where are they used ?
When you generate an asset using the Asset Studio, the Google Play Store icon option just has it generate a PNG sized and shaped for the Google Play Store listing of your app, in addition to creating the assets for the app itself. The icon isn't uploaded to Google Play or anything for you; it will just appear inside your app folder, and it would be up to you to then upload it accordingly. If you don't plan on using this asset as your Play Store icon, then you can just uncheck this option. But if you don't it won't really affect you anyway, you'll just have an extra unused asset in your app you'll want to delete
I run Android Studio 3.2.1 with all updates. I generate all icons from an SVG master artwork, so resolution is not an issue.
All icons get generated and stored into \res\mipmap as the previews have shown inside Asset Studio. I can also see my Google Play Store icon, rather huge next to all the other sizes in the preview.
But after the actual generation, I cannot find the Play Store Icon. The online documentation here
https://developer.android.com/studio/write/image-asset-studio?utm_source=android-studio
does not mention the location of the extra icons.
Sorry if this is trivial.
Bonus question: If generated this way inside the Android Studio, will the package include the Store Icon, or do I need to upload it manually in the Store Console like before?
The play store icon ic_launcher-web.png is stored in the main folder of the module. In Android Studio, you can see it underneath the file AndroidManifest.xml.
I had to exit from Android Studio and go through the Windows directory system in order to see the Play Store image :)
Is it possible to create an .apk file that only update an image in the existing app? my app is an in-house app for corporation, not in the play store, mainly contain of images (in the resource folder), and i just want to create a patch (an apk that is significant smaller size) that only update one of the images in the existing version.
If you want your app change image in the res folder of another app it may be possible(not sure it can be impossible at all) for rooted devices.Because all app folders created by the android system for the installed application are protected and can not be accessible for another processes.
But if the image was created on SD-card or on the shared device memory it is not a problem.
We can do this for android using apk file manager or just renaming it to zip file and changing the zip file.
But How to do it for IOS file?
I heard apple store allows us to change it but again we are targetting ad-hoc as well. How to do that...?
actually we have created 100 iOS ipa and android apk files for many clients and we want them to change there icons & name of application by themselves.
Each apk and ipa is assigned an ID which retrieves the data from internet upon installation and works accordingly.
You Can't with iOS.
You must change the name and icon in your project again and have to create new IPA files.
As Per apple documentation of itunes connect we can only change large icon for the application which is ratina icon and is 1024*1024 px size. I guess we can NOT change the name of app and icon while submitting to itunes store
