I have some problem with coordinator layout. I have activity toolbar inside appBarLayout with parent CoordinatorLayout (I want to make toolbar hideable) and fragment with tablayout inside appBarLayout and viewPager. Here is activity's XML
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#drawable/gradient"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:id="#+id/toolbar_container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme.AppBarOverlay">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways|snap"
app:popupTheme="#style/AppTheme.PopupOverlay"/>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
And it's fragment's XML
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#drawable/gradient"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/toolbar_container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme.AppBarOverlay">
<android.support.design.widget.TabLayout
android:id="#+id/tabs"
style="#style/MyCustomTabLayout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:tabGravity="fill"/>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/viewPager"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"/>
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
For now, I have this situation where the toolbar is somewhere.
If I change coordinator layout inside activity to linear layout I get toolbar visible, but as you can imagine with no hiding option.
Actually, I have play with coordinator layout a lot:hiding and showing toolbar in a few cases such parallax and others - https://github.com/Iamtodor/toolbars, so you can be sure, I have a little understand how it works :)
Also, I had wantch this sources:
- https://github.com/codepath/android_guides/wiki/Handling-Scrolls-with-CoordinatorLayout
- https://github.com/codepath/android_guides/wiki/Using-the-App-ToolBar#using-toolbar-as-actionbar
- https://github.com/chrisbanes/cheesesquare
But there is all examples when tablayout exists inside same appbarlayout with toolbar.
How can I fix it?
Here is what worked for me:
Fragment XML:

so I can't figure out how to align my bottom navigation in a LinearLayout under a RecyclerView. The items are RecyclerView:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:context=".CategoryActivity">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:theme="#style/AppTheme.AppBarOverlay"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:popupTheme="#style/AppTheme.PopupOverlay"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize">
</android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/recycler_category"
android:layout_margin="8dp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical">
</android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView>
<android.support.design.widget.BottomNavigationView
android:id="#+id/nav_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="?android:attr/windowBackground"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
app:menu="#menu/bottom_nav_menu"/>
</LinearLayout>
The navigation should be always at the bottom.
Okay, here is your layout, it should work as you expected
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:id="#+id/appbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme.AppBarOverlay">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:popupTheme="#style/AppTheme.PopupOverlay" />
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/recycler_category"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_above="#+id/nav_view"
android:layout_below="#+id/appbar"
android:layout_margin="8dp"
android:orientation="vertical" />
<android.support.design.widget.BottomNavigationView
android:id="#+id/nav_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:background="?android:attr/windowBackground"
app:menu="#menu/menu_navigation" />
</RelativeLayout>
Not sure but try adding this:
android:layout_gravity="bottom"
If you don't want to change to RelativeLayout, set this attribute to the RecyclerView:
android:layout_weight="1"
This way the RecyclerView will take all the available space pushing the BottomNavigationView to the bottom.
You Can't adjust your BottomNavigationView properly inside LinearLayout. If there are so many items in your RecyclerView then BottomNavigationView will be hidden at the bottom. So you must use RelativeLayout to align it at the bottom and other layouts above of BottomNavigationView. Please check the bellow modified layout.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:id="#+id/appbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:theme="#style/AppTheme.AppBarOverlay">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:popupTheme="#style/AppTheme.PopupOverlay" />
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/recycler_category"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_above="#+id/nav_view"
android:layout_below="#+id/appbar"
android:layout_margin="8dp"
android:orientation="vertical" />
<android.support.design.widget.BottomNavigationView
android:id="#+id/nav_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:background="?android:attr/windowBackground"
app:menu="#menu/menu_navigation" />
</RelativeLayout>
Actually i am trying to build a listView/recyclerView . On scrolling of list the actionbar get hide where action bar is toolbar but the some part of listview is hiding behind the tab. Here i have used AppBarLayout and toolbar having app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways" and in my recylerview have app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior" behaviour. I can use linear Layout but problem is for sliding of toolbar the AppBarLayout must be the child of CoordinatorLayout.
My activity having xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"

android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingTop="50dp">
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/pager"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
</FrameLayout>
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout

android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_margin="16dp"
android:clickable="true"
android:src="#drawable/ic_dialpad_white"
app:layout_anchor="#id/pager"
app:layout_anchorGravity="bottom|center" />
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
and my fragment having
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout
android:id="#+id/main_content"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#color/white">
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/recentcall_recyclerview"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:scrollbars="vertical"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
/>
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
Am I doing something wrong in making the toolbar to slide on sliding the listview or there is another way of doing this without using any third library.
try this:
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
android:minHeight="?attr/actionBarSize"
app:popupTheme="#style/Theme.AppCompat.Light.DarkActionBar"
app:theme="#style/Toolbar">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/action_bars"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways"
/>
<ameyo.genie.SlidingTabLayout
android:id="#+id/sliding_tabs"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="48dp"
android:background="#color/colorPrimary"
/>
<FrameLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingTop="50dp">
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/pager"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
</FrameLayout>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
When you put your component, order them by the position, every component will be over the precedent, if there's no space !
Thanks to Daniel Nugent that I forgot to write android:layout_below="#+id/sliding_tabs" inside viewpager and also remove framelayout and height must be wrapcontent now my final code is this which is working

I met a lot of issues related with my problem but nobody I found wanted the behaviour I'm looking for.
I want a view pager with tabs and app bar, when the contained fragments are scrollable and are scrolled (toward bottom), I want the app bar to disapear but leave the tabs, when scrolled toward top, to re-apear. some of these fragments contain a SwipeToRefresh Layout (sometimes it causes problems).
I tried a lot of configurations that always leave something wrong.
for now I don't have the collapsing effect (it's always hidden)

If you don't want parallax effect, you don't need to use CollapsingToolbarLayout.
Most important configuration:
In Toolbar, set app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways".
In ViewPager, set app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior".
And layout should look like this:
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar/>
<android.support.design.widget.TabLayout/>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager/>
<android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton/>
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
Move ProgressWheel out of your SwipeRefreshLayout to fix your problem that SwipeRefreshLayout can't refresh.
Here is the screenshot of my problem. As you can see, on the very right bottom of the screen my floating button is covered by the navigation bar. Could anyone help me with this? I am already using padding on my layout.
I tried using android:fitsSystemWindows="true", but it didn't help.
XML File for the fragment:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:padding="15dp"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">
<android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton
android:id="#+id/addNewReminderButton"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="bottom"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:src="#drawable/ic_add"
app:backgroundTint="#color/md_amber_500"
app:elevation="4dp" />
</RelativeLayout>
Here is the XML containing Toolbar, AppBar and so on.
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:theme="#style/MaterialTheme">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways"
app:popupTheme="#style/MaterialTheme" />
<android.support.design.widget.TabLayout
android:id="#+id/tabs"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:tabMode="fixed"
app:tabGravity="fill"/>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/viewpager"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior" />
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
I am working on code that have FrameLayout and customview at bottom. I loaded a fragment inside FrameLayout, which is having CoordinatorLayout with ViewPager inside.
So problem is ViewPager takes full height of the phone and hide contents of list behind customview. Here is Code:
main_layout.xml
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/root_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_above="#+id/playerView"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/playerView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="#dimen/player_size"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:background="#D7D7D7"
android:gravity="center"
android:text="Player View"
android:textSize="20sp" />
</RelativeLayout>
fragment_view.xml
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/main_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:id="#+id/appbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways"
app:popupTheme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Light" />
<android.support.design.widget.TabLayout
android:id="#+id/tabs_view_tabs"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:layout_collapseMode="pin"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar" />
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/tabs_view_viewpager"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior" />
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
In above image you can see some content of list is hidden beside PlayerView.
Try to use LinearLayout with layout_weight instead of RelativeLayout inside main_layout.xml
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/root_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1"/>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/playerView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="#dimen/player_size"
android:background="#D7D7D7"
android:gravity="center"
android:text="Player View"
android:textSize="20sp" />
</LinearLayout>
