Get Audio Video Images From SdCard Android Requires Minimum sdk 19 - android

I Am Working In A Project Where I Have To get audio, video , images from SdCard and upload to server
I get The Images Quite Easily but Issue Is With The Audio And Video . Where Cursor Return Null
I Have Android lollipop .
This Is Code :-
Cursor cursor = getActivity().managedQuery(selectedImageUri, projection, null,null, null);
int data_column_index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow("_data");
int size_column_index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow("_size");
int name_column_index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow("_display_name");
It Returns null
Now I am using This :-
https://limbaniandroid.blogspot.in/2014/03/how-to-get-absolute-path-when-select.html
But issue is, it requires minimum SDK 19, Warning/error in android studio .But it is compiling and running fine . I have Android lollipop
so its good to kept moving with this . Or I have to do my projects minimum SDK 19
Will it produce any error while uploading assigned .apk .
Because I have to upload it within 2, 3 days
Or I have to write separate code for lower version
Any help please.

Please try the following code:

onActivityResult you have to write
#Override
public void onActivityResult(int requestCode, int resultCode, Intent data) {
super.onActivityResult(requestCode, resultCode, data);
if (resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK) {
if (requestCode == SELECT_PHOTO) {
if (null == data)

// MEDIA GALLERY
selectedImagePath = ImageFilePath.getPath(
getActivity(), selectedImageUri);
Log.i("Image File Path", "" + selectedImagePath);
System.out.println("Image Path ="+selectedImagePath);
if(selectedImagePath!=null&&!selectedImagePath.equals(""))
{
uploadImageOnServer upImg = new uploadImageOnServer();
upImg.execute();
}
else
{
AlertDialogManager alDailog = new AlertDialogManager(getActivity(), "Image Upload", "Please Select Valid Image", 0);
alDailog.showDialog();
}
}
}
}
You will not be able to find an absolute path if you use Intent.ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT.
If you need to read the file then open a stream with the received url.

get realPath return null on android marshmallow?

I am using this function to get the image path from uri:
private static String getRealPathFromURI(Context context, Uri contentUri) {
Cursor cursor = null;
try {
String[] proj = {MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA};
cursor = context.getContentResolver().query(contentUri, proj, null, null, null);
int column_index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA);
cursor.moveToFirst();
return cursor.getString(column_index);
} finally {
if (cursor != null) {
cursor.close();
}
}
}
the above function works fine with version < 23 . but it return null with android marshmallow ?
I am using emulator nexus 4 with android 6.0 x86_64
the emulator has storage permissions.
what may be the problem ?
UPDATE:
Please refer to this post on handling Uri in android to support the latest versions of the android operating system and new devices, most of the your requirements can be met with using streams instead of getting the path to the asset in the file system. So please consider using streams.

taken from here and from this answer . This is an ugly hack that isn't guaranteed to work on all devices but in my experience it works on 99% of the devices out there. According to CommonsWare you shouldn't assume, that the stream you get via ContentResolver is convertable into file. Instead you are supposed to open an inputstream from that Uri using the context.getContentResolver().openInputStream(fileUri) method. Refer to his commonsBlog post for more information on this and how to handle Uris

Android file chooser redirects audio files to /external

I am writing an app that requires the user to choose files of various types on their phone. I use this code to launch a file chooser intent:
Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT);
intent.setType("file/*");
startActivityForResult(Intent.createChooser(intent, "Unhelpful text"), INTEGER_CONSTANT);
And here is the relevant part of onActivityResult:
if (requestCode == INTEGER_CONSTANT && resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
Uri uri = data.getData();
path = uri.getPath();
Log.i(DEBUG_TAG, "Path: " + path);
}
When I choose a pdf file or a video on my SD card, the path displayed to the log is as it should be: /storage/emulated/path/to/file. But when I choose an audio file in WAV format in the same folder as that document or video (or any other folder), the path printed to the log is /external/audio/media/217.
Why does this happen, and how can I retrieve the actual path of the file?

switch (requestCode) {
case PICKFILE_RESULT_CODE:
if (resultCode == RESULT_OK) {
String filePath = data.getData().getPath();
Log.d("RPM", "File path : " + filePath);
// FilePath is your file as a string
// Do your work here
}
}
}
Call browseFile() method and it will automatically take you on browsing screen.
PICKFILE_RESULT_CODE is an integer constant. You can decide its value according to you, whatever you want. In my case it is
public static final int PICKFILE_RESULT_CODE = 11;

retrieve absolute path when select image from gallery kitkat android

As I am supporting my app to Kitkat version, now in this the way of retrieve file from gallery was different.
I have preferred this Android Gallery on KitKat returns different Uri for Intent.ACTION_GET_CONTENT for retrieving file from gallery and successfully work but I required Absolute path of that file, I am getting
content://com.android.providers.media.documents/document/image:2505
For 19 below version we used uri different by using that I am getting path this way
Cursor cursor = this.getContentResolver().query(originalUri, projection, null, null, null);
int column_index = cursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA);
cursor.moveToFirst();
String fpath = cursor.getString(column_index);
but in 19 version it will give me null value how to get absolute path of image file which was selected by user.
Thanks
Here is one way to access the Absolute path after selecting file.
After getting data in new URI format for KK(KitKat) like this way
content://com.android.providers.media.documents/document/image:2505
Just extract ID of your document
if(requestCode == GALLERY_KITKAT_INTENT_CALLED && resultCode == RESULT_OK){
Uri originalUri = data.getData();
final int takeFlags = data.getFlags()
& (Intent.FLAG_GRANT_READ_URI_PERMISSION
| Intent.FLAG_GRANT_WRITE_URI_PERMISSION);
// Check for the freshest data.
getContentResolver().takePersistableUriPermission(originalUri, takeFlags);
/* now extract ID from Uri path using getLastPathSegment() and then split with ":"
then call get Uri to for Internal storage or External storage for media I have used getUri()
*/
String id = originalUri.getLastPathSegment().split(":")[1];
final String[] imageColumns = {MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA };
final String imageOrderBy = null;
Uri uri = getUri();
String selectedImagePath = "path";
Cursor imageCursor = managedQuery(uri, imageColumns,
MediaStore.Images.Media._ID + "="+id, null, imageOrderBy);
if (imageCursor.moveToFirst()) {
selectedImagePath = imageCursor.getString(imageCursor.getColumnIndex(MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA));
}
Log.e("path",selectedImagePath ); // use selectedImagePath
}else if() {
// for older version use existing code here
}
// By using this method get the Uri of Internal/External Storage for Media
private Uri getUri() {
String state = Environment.getExternalStorageState();
if(!state.equalsIgnoreCase(Environment.MEDIA_MOUNTED))
return MediaStore.Images.Media.INTERNAL_CONTENT_URI;
return MediaStore.Images.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI;
}
Pratik's solution helped me alot. Following is the version which works for me in Kitkat 4.4.2. Three things which i changed are
1) Using content resolver to get the path
2) originalUri.getLastPathSegment().split(":")[1] gives me index out of bound so i'm using index 0 instead.Its been working so far
3) Removed takeflags and check for freshest data as we are filtering the cursor with id.
try {
Uri originalUri = data.getData();
String pathsegment[] = originalUri.getLastPathSegment().split(":");
String id = pathsegment[0];
final String[] imageColumns = { MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA };
final String imageOrderBy = null;
Uri uri = getUri();
Cursor imageCursor = activity.getContentResolver().query(uri, imageColumns,
MediaStore.Images.Media._ID + "=" + id, null, null);
if (imageCursor.moveToFirst()) {
value = imageCursor.getString(imageCursor.getColumnIndex(MediaStore.Images.Media.DATA));
}
} catch (Exception e) {
Toast.makeText(activity, "Failed to get image", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}

Hope works for you.
Bitmap bitmap = MediaStore.Images.Media
.getBitmap(getActivity().getContentResolver(), uri);
I hope that this will help you.
