ListView by using custom list view adapter - android

I want to use list view by using custom list view adapter. My problem is that I am not getting list view at run time in my app.

First of all your getCount() returns 0 which means you are telling the Adapter that there's nothing in there, try returning arraylist.size()
Moreover, why are there two lists in your Adapter?
Edit : Nevermind, it's for your filtering I see, then try returning worldpopulationlist.size()

You can use this code for it as you need to return size in adapter getCount method:
#Override
public int getCount() {
return arraylist.size();
}
#Override
public Course getItem(int position) {
return arraylist.get(position);
}

Get your worldpopulationlist array count
public int getCount() {
return worldpopulationlist.size();
}

Remove these methods
#Override
public int getCount() {
return 0;
}
#Override
public Course getItem(int position) {
return null;
}
#Override
public long getItemId(int position) {
return 0;
}
Change your class definition
public class CourseViewAdapter extends ArrayAdapter<Course>
Use only one list (there's an alternative, correct way, to apply filters to an Adapter)
Context mContext;
LayoutInflater inflater;
private List<Course> arraylist;
public CourseViewAdapter(Context context, ArrayList<Course> list){
super(context, 0, list);
mContext = context;
inflater = LayoutInflater.from(context);
this.arraylist = list;
}
Your problem was that the getCount method tells the UI how many elements to draw. You must implement that in a BaseAdapter, but an ArrayAdapter does that for you

in your xmlcourse_activity.xml you have to initialize ListView
<ListView
android:id="#+id/listview1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
In listView you have to inflate your c_list_item.xml layout.
I hope it will work for you.

How to select item in the list view programmatically

I have an ArrayList<String> List which contains some items from the listview all_list. How can I select these items in the list view all_list programmatically by checking the ArrayList<String> List contents?
for e.g., listview all_list contains [0] apple
[1] orange
[2] banana
In ArrayList<String> List, I have orange so I want item on position 1 on the listview all_list to be selected (highlighted) automatically.
I have tried using all_list.setItemChecked(), but it does nothing and shuts down the application. I am performing the operation after listing the adapter.
set an onItemClickListener to the listview such that on click, you set a boolean flag that sets the checkbox in each row to selected. then call notifyDataSetChanged()
Try this
MainActivity.java
package com.example.multiseekbar;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import android.app.Activity;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.view.View;
import android.widget.AdapterView;
import android.widget.AdapterView.OnItemClickListener;

modelClass.add(new ModelClass("Orange", true));

modelClass.add(new ModelClass("Grapes", false));
listView1 = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.listView1);

listView1.setAdapter(adapter);
listView1.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() {
#Override

you forgot to initialize the telephones string in your MainActivity, do same as you did for movie_poster_resource after this it should work, and dont forgot to add permission

startActivity(callIntent);
and update your AdapterClass with this

android:onClick="additionalData"
/>
</RelativeLayout>
mylayout2.xml file where I define the controls for simple adapter:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent">
<TextView
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:id="#+id/additionaltxt1"
/>
<CheckBox
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:layout_alignRight="#id/additionaltxt1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:checked="false"
android:id="#+id/additionalchk"
/>
</RelativeLayout>
What you actually need to do is create a custom adapter. In that custom you could listen for checkbox event at the right position.
Here is an example:
public class ListEmployeesAdapter extends BaseAdapter {
public List<Employees> items;
Context c;
public ListEmployeesAdapter(Context c, List<Employees> items) {
this.c = c;
this.items = items;
}
#Override
public int getCount() {
return items.size();
}
#Override
public Object getItem(int position) {
return items.get(position);
}
#Override
public long getItemId(int position) {
return position;
}
#Override
public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) {
if (convertView == null) {
LayoutInflater mInflater = (LayoutInflater)
c.getSystemService(Activity.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE);
convertView = mInflater.inflate(R.layout.employee_item, null);
}
TextView name = (TextView) convertView.findViewById(R.id.name);
name.setText(items.get(position).name);
name.setOnCLickListener(new OnClickListener(){
#Override
public void onClick(){
//listen to the click
}
});
return convertView;
}
}
Just replace the the layout with you layout and call checkbox instead of TextView and you are good to go.

<TextView
android:id="#+id/txt"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="50dp" />
</TableRow>
</TableLayout>
I can't find any errors or notice something irregular, so why is that happening?
you should extend BaseAdapter and implement abstract methods
#Override
public int getCount() {
return web.size();
}
#Override
public Object getItem(int position) {
return web.get(position);
}
#Override
public long getItemId(int position) {
return 0;
}
also you might change
txtTitle.setText((CharSequence) web.get(position));
to
txtTitle.setText((CharSequence) getItem(position));
now your adapter don't know size of web array
edit:
you can get one inflater in constructor and keep in class, no need to getting inflater each time (little bit better for perfomance)
LayoutInflater inflater = context.getLayoutInflater();
edit 2:
localhost put proper comment - you are removing all Views from RelativeLayout, also ListView, and creating new ListView without adding to Relative. keeping reference will not auto-add View
protected void onPostExecute(Object result) {
layout = (RelativeLayout) getView().findViewById(R.id.blogPage);
layout.removeView(getView().findViewById(R.id.txtLabel);
//assuming you need to remove only txtLabel
CustomList adapter = new CustomList(getActivity(), titles);
list.setAdapter(adapter);
list.setOnItemClickListener(new AdapterView.OnItemClickListener() {
#Override
public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view,
int position, long id) {
Toast.makeText(getActivity(),
"You Clicked at " + titles.get(position),
Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
});
}

when I need check boxes inside listview, I often code as following:
MyAdapter.java:
- Declare an boolean array to mark which item is checked/unchecked:
....
boolean[] checked;
...
inside constructor:
checked = new boolean[data.size()];
- Inside getView()
{
.....
holder.items_check.setChecked(checked[position]);
holder.items_check.setOnCheckedChangeListener(new OnCheckedChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onCheckedChanged(CompoundButton buttonView, boolean isChecked) {
checked[position] = isChecked;
}
});
.....
- And method to get all checked items:
boolean[] getCheckedItems() {
return checked;
}
That's !
Could it be that your getItem and getItemId only return null and 1? These methods need to return the correct data for this to work I believe. getItem would need to be:
String getItem(int position)
{
return data.get(position);
}
and getItemId would simply return position instead of 0:
String getItemId(int position)
{
return position;
}
