getting images from firebase storage in android - android

In my Activity I use FireBase to download pics of my game from the storage.
If I run this code on my Activity it works but if I use it in my level class as a method, it just returns null.
This is my Activity:
pic = null;
answer = null;
option = null;
picture = null;
try {
answer = File.createTempFile("buttonanswer", "png");
StorageReference storageRef = storage.getReferenceFromUrl("gs://yougotit-8ce92.appspot.com");
StorageReference levelDifficultRef = storageRef.child("easy");
final StorageReference levelRef = levelDifficultRef.child(Game.LEVEL + 1);
StorageReference levelAnswerRef = levelRef.child("pic" + "." + "jpg");
levelAnswerRef.getFile(answer).addOnSuccessListener(new OnSuccessListener<FileDownloadTask.TaskSnapshot>() {
#Override
public void onSuccess(FileDownloadTask.TaskSnapshot taskSnapshot) {
answerV = new ImageView(getApplicationContext());
Bitmap myBitmap = BitmapFactory.decodeFile(answer.getPath());
answerV.setImageBitmap(myBitmap);
runOnUiThread(new Runnable() {
#Override
public void run() {
maingameLinarLayout.addView(answerV);
}
});
}
});
}
catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
In the level class this my code that doesn't work and returns null.
This is my level class:
public class Level {
public static final String ANSWER="answer";
public static final String OPTION="ops";
public static final String PICTURE="pic";
public static final String QUESTION="question";
public static final String PNG = "png";
public static final String JPG = "jpg";
private File mainPicture,fadedPicture,opt1,opt2,opt3,answer,question;
private int flag;//in easy level when reach to 6 it indicate that that level is ready //in medium and hard level when reach to 7
private StorageReference storageRef;
private String difficult;
private Game game;
public Level(Game game,FirebaseStorage storageIns,String difficult,int level) {
flag = 0 ;
this.game = game;
this.difficult = difficult;
this.storageRef = storageIns.getReferenceFromUrl("gs://yougotit-8ce92.appspot.com");
StorageReference levelDifficultRef = storageRef.child(difficult);
final StorageReference levelRef = levelDifficultRef.child(Game.LEVEL+level);
if(difficult.equals(Game.LEVEL_HARD) ) {
}
if(difficult.equals(Game.LEVEL_MEDIUM) ) {
}
else {
downloadPicture(levelRef, mainPicture, PICTURE, JPG);
downloadPicture(levelRef, answer, ANSWER, PNG);
downloadPicture(levelRef, opt1, OPTION + 1, PNG);
downloadPicture(levelRef, opt2, OPTION + 2, PNG);
downloadPicture(levelRef, opt3, OPTION + 3, PNG);
}
}
private void downloadPicture(StorageReference levelRef,File f,String picName,String picFormat) {
StorageReference pictureRef = levelRef.child(picName+"."+picFormat);
f = null;
try {
f = File.createTempFile(picName,picFormat);
pictureRef.getFile(f).addOnSuccessListener(new OnSuccessListener<FileDownloadTask.TaskSnapshot>() {
#Override
public void onSuccess(FileDownloadTask.TaskSnapshot taskSnapshot) {
flag++;
if(flag == 5) {
activeCallBack();
}
}
});
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
Can anyone please help me figuring out what's going wrong?

You are downloading different references in your Level class so this looks like an apples to orange comparison.
Try adding a addOnFailure in addition to addOnSuccess as I suspect that you are getting 404's for these other files.

I want to save data in SecondActivity from FirstActivity using Room

I have three activities, I capture all data but one from DetailActivity upon button click and save in database using Room; My intention is to insert all these data into the database and start ReviewActivity so as to get the arraylist of reviews and also insert it in the database. Everything seems to work fine until when I want to view review offline because I believe it has been saved, reviews does not get loaded.
This is my DetailActivity,

Data gets loaded from MainActivity, the saved data is passed on to other activities as a parcellable bundle via intent, the passed data is displayed in DetailActivity but not in ReviewActivity.
Alternatively, if I can load reviews alongside YouTube keys from DetailActivity, I believe I can handle the database issue from there, but two Loaders wouldn't just work together, the app crashes; I am aware two AsyncTasks concurrently run together solved this problem, but I prefer to use Loaders because of performance on configuration change

Storing a string on mobile device using gluon mobile plugin

I want to save a string from a TextArea to the device and then reload it after reopening the app. I have tried following the examples (link) but cant get it to work. Main problem arises when i try to read the file and use a StringInputConverter.
private void saveAndLoad(TextArea textArea){
File textFile = new File(ROOT_DIR,"text_file");
String text2 = textArea.getText();
String loadedFile = "none";
if (textFile.exists()){
FileClient fileClient = FileClient.create(textFile);
loadedFile = DataProvider.retrieveObject(fileClient.createObjectDataReader(
new StringInputConverter()));
}
try(FileWriter writer = new FileWriter(textFile)){
writer.write(textArea.getText());
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
textArea.setText(text2);
}
Edit: inserted code which i tried to start reading file with and image of the error i am getting
If you check the DataProvider::retrieveObject documentation:
Retrieves an object using the specified ObjectDataReader. A GluonObservableObject is returned, that will contain the object when the read operation completed successfully.
It returns GluonObservableObject<String>, which is an observable wrapper of the string, not the string itself.
You need to get first the observable, and when the operation ends successfully you can retrieve the string:
if (textFile.exists()) {
FileClient fileClient = FileClient.create(textFile);
GluonObservableObject<String> retrieveObject = DataProvider
.retrieveObject(fileClient.createObjectDataReader(new StringInputConverter()));
retrieveObject.stateProperty().addListener((obs, ov, nv) -> {
if (ConnectState.SUCCEEDED.equals(nv)) {
loadedFile = retrieveObject.get();
}
});
}
This is a quick implementation of this functionality:
public class BasicView extends View {
private static final File ROOT_DIR;
static {
ROOT_DIR = Services.get(StorageService.class)
.flatMap(StorageService::getPrivateStorage)
.orElseThrow(() -> new RuntimeException("Error"));
}
private final File textFile;
private final TextField textField;
private String loadedFile = "none";
public BasicView(String name) {
super(name);
textFile = new File(ROOT_DIR, "text_file");
textField = new TextField();
VBox controls = new VBox(15.0, textField);
controls.setAlignment(Pos.CENTER);
controls.setPadding(new Insets(30));
setCenter(controls);
}
#Override
protected void updateAppBar(AppBar appBar) {
appBar.setNavIcon(MaterialDesignIcon.MENU.button(e -> System.out.println("Menu")));
appBar.setTitleText("Basic View");
appBar.getActionItems().add(MaterialDesignIcon.SAVE.button(e -> save()));
appBar.getActionItems().add(MaterialDesignIcon.RESTORE_PAGE.button(e -> restore()));
}
private void save() {
try (FileWriter writer = new FileWriter(textFile)) {
writer.write(textField.getText());
} catch (IOException ex) {
ex.printStackTrace();
}
}
private void restore() {
if (textFile.exists()) {
FileClient fileClient = FileClient.create(textFile);
GluonObservableObject<String> retrieveObject = DataProvider
.retrieveObject(fileClient.createObjectDataReader(new StringInputConverter()));
retrieveObject.stateProperty().addListener((obs, ov, nv) -> {
if (ConnectState.SUCCEEDED.equals(nv)) {
loadedFile = retrieveObject.get();
textField.setText(loadedFile);
}
});
}
}
}

Android ANR Multithreading

So I'm working on a project which needs to cut up a video into multiple frames, and save them as Bitmaps on the device.
I'm using FFmpegMediaMetadataRetriever.getFrameAtTime() to obtain the individual frames, which is working, but is slow. To speed it up a bit I'm trying to implement multiple worker threads which go off and grab the frames, finally responding back to UI via an anonymous function.
I have a class MyVideoProcessor which handles the video processing, and this is called from my EditVideoActivity.
The threads start, and start processing, but shortly afterwards the EditVideoActivity dies (ANR).
From what I can see, there is nothing running on UI (apart from at the very end (which I confirm only runs once)) so not sure why the UI thread is being held up by the worker threads.
EDIT:
So I've switched out FFmpegMediaMetadataRetriever for the standard MediaMetadataRetriever and everything works. BUT I need to use FFmpegMediaMetadataRetriever, as the OPTION_CLOSEST in MMR doesn't work as it should.

How to read text from an image using OCR in android

I want to implement OCR in Android. I.e. getting texts from a business card image. I used code from here.
But when I run this code I got the following error:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
org.apache.http.entity.mime.content.FileBody
I think it points to the following line:
final FileBody image = new FileBody(new File(filePath));
of the OCRServiceAPI class. How can I fix this?
Can't guess about your above error but I have done this task in Blackberry by using third party application ABBYY product of OCR on PHP server.
During my long R & D I have also worked on the below link of Github_Abbyy.
For using this code you should create a free account here: ocrsdk.com
Not all the Apache packages are available by default in Android, so you will have to download them from the Apache repositories and include those yourself. See the question Android libraries not found and the links provided in the answer there.
Edit: Specifically the sub-packages of org.apache.http.entity are not included, only the entity package itself.
In the example project given by the OCR API they have placed the mime package in a jar in the lib folder.
Checkout that whether you are getting correct path of the image which are selecting from the gallery.
I have also tried this demo and its working fine for me.
Here I'm posting my code:
