I have a following problem. In my App I have to implement a setting-feature that allows the user to set all font sizes and all views in the app bigger or smaller.
Dimensions of all my views are defined in sp's. So if the user goes to System-Settings and changes the FontSize all my views react on this.
Now I have to implement this feature, whithout changing the system settings.
I read this: android dynamically change style at runtime
and this: Android: application-wide font-size preference
but this can only manage all changes on TextViews and all other Views which are extending TextView like EditText, Buttons...
So my Question is: Is it possible to change the scale factor programmatically, which is used in SP?

After some more googling I finally found a solution for my problem.
To change the scale factor I'm now using getResources().getDisplayMetrics().scaledDensity

So i can use the "sp" units at all my fonts?
The problem is that my customer doesn´t wan´t that his employes changes anything in the android-settings. So i am searching for a solution to change the font size in my app. Of course i could implement my own dynamic font size by programmatically changing the size of each label when the user chooses another size. But i think that is to complicated and should by the last way.

I'm trying to use a custom font with the text in my Widget. Since the RemoveViews is very limited and doesn't support custom fonts in the TextView options, I found this post that showed a clever way of getting around this. Essentially, instead of using a TextView I use an ImageView and render a bitmap of the text in the custom font and set the ImageView's bitmap to the rendered image. Now the only problem is that I need to determine the width to render the Bitmap so it fits perfect in the fill_parent on the ImageView. So how do I get the width of a widget?

You don't. You know what you asked for via your metadata. What you wind up with is up to the home screen implementation, and there is no way to retrieve that information. That goes double for widgets that the user resizes, either because you indicated that you support resizing, or the home screen just decided to roll that feature themselves.
I am developing an application for whole android devices. But resolation of screens are different and that is the biggest problem how it looks. So, I want to make resizing controls and also I used absolutelayout but It is still same.. I give value to controls as dp ..
How can I solve this problem ?
You don't resize the screen of an android device - you make your app instead work with the various screen sizes.

You cannot hardcode the dimensions of your layout and expect it to work on every screen size. And there is no method which automatically does it unless you write it.
You might want to change your approach, use Relative Layout or Linear Layout instead and use values like fill_parent and wrap_content while designing your layout.
Another approach Android developers follow is use different resource files for different screen sizes and Android loads them automatically at runtime.

I am having trouble in creating generic layouts for my application. As expected, it can be used in a variety of devices and I want it to work properly for each of them. There are several approaches to achieve this problem but I want to create an xml file (similar like web.config files) and at the very beginning of my application I want to take the device's screen width and height and calculate each control's (textview, spinner, button etc.) attributes (such as margin, padding,width, height...) according to this width and height and save these calculated values into my xml file. Finally I want to reach these values from my layout xmls so my layout's visual will be independent from the device and will work properly for each device. Can this be achieved? I could not find any similar solution on the internet. Can anyone help me?

You can do most of this without hard coding values using RelativeLayout and similar mechanisms. The two pass dynamic layout system is made for exactly what you're describing.
However, when you need to be more specific, that's where the dynamic resource system can help you out. For everything you define in res/drawable, res/layout, res/values, etc, you can define specific implementations for device orientation, pixel densities, screen size or even language by qualifying sibling directories with the correct format. Provide a resource with the same name in different folders, and the system will decide which to use based on the runtime environment.

I would not use custom measurements to dynamically set layout parameters. Android specifically has a variety of functionality to address this for you (including supplying multiple image resources, or layouts specific to a screen size).
I have discovered that the more you try to customize the Android layout with hard-coded values (always use DP if you do want to set specific parameters).
Bottom line, you should not try to re-invent the wheel, and just use the well-designed functionality that Android has already built-in to accomplish what you want.
I am trying to implement the minimumfontsize property in android. This is common to the ios sdk. Since it is not presently available in android I was wondering if anyone can help me with a similar implementation in android?
To be more specific, I am trying to implement this property for the TextViewUI in android.Hence I basically need to implement it for this widget.
These are the ios specs of this feature:
"When drawing text that might not fit within the bounding rectangle of the label, you can use this property to prevent the receiver from reducing the font size to the point where it is no longer legible.
The default value for this property is 0.0. If you enable font adjustment for the label, you should always increase this value. This property is effective only when the numberOfLines property is set to 1."
Without knowing what you intend to do with the code, there isn't much help to be had. The closest thing to what you describe in android is setting device independent pixels (android:textSize="30dp"), which ensure that however big (or small) the text looks on your handset, it will look pretty much just like that on all other handsets, at least those of the same size/density.
