How to set custom toolbar background in android

Hey guys I am using custom toolbar in my project. When I try to scroll view it goes behind the toolbar and see all item. I made a short video please have a look.

I tried to put white background on toolbar, it solve the problem when scroll but another occur. When my searchview collapse its invisible. I think it's goes behind white background. I also made a short video for that.

Getting elevation bewteen Toolbar and Tablayout

I am trying to create a layout which includes toolbar and tablayout inside appbarlayout. It works fine but shows a line between toolbar and appbarlayout. I am setting toolbar background color dynamically like:
toolbar.setBackgroundColor(Color.parseColor("myColor"));
tabLayout.setBackgroundColor(Color.parseColor("myColor");
I have tried setting app:elevation="0dp" on Appbar and Toolbar but it doesn't work.

set elevation to 0dp in your MyTabsStyle.xml

Add app:elevation="0dp" in AppBarLayout to hide the shadow in toolbar.

In your mytheme.xml change update AppTheme.AppBarOverlay style as :

AppbarLayout randomly adds and removes bottom padding

As you can see, every time I open this activity, the padding below the appbarlayout is randomly removed or added. I am aware that the problem is might be caused by the fitsystemwindow = true attribute, because when this attribute is set i don`t have any control over the padding. I would like to be able to control this padding myself, any idea what I could be doing wrong or how to fix that problem? Here is my code:

So I'm trying to get my app drawing under the status bar. Not quite sure how to achieve this though...

Well I've just discovered how to do almost exactly what I wanted to. All I had to do was remove the android:fitsSystemWindows="true" attribute and all worked out fine.

Android manually adding Toolbar vs default Theme Toolbar

In all the examples I see that people remove the default ActionBar with

Why is this better than just using the default ActionBar that comes with the theme? Since doing it this way I have to manually add it in every Activity in my application while using the default it gets added on its own ? Plus using the Toolbar from the Theme I can now reduce my main_activity_layout.xml to

It's not a must to use ToolBar but It's better to use It if you want your app to follow material design guidelines.And also
If You want to add a widget to it, You can do this easily as you place items in it as you do in any other layout.
You can place it any where in your layout.
you can create as many toolbars as you like.
There are actually more reasons I haven't mentioned.
