Fabric always shows app update is available - android

I have been using fabric since long time now. But since first I have started using I have been facing a issue and till the date have tried to search many times but never got any solution.
I use Mac to build android apps and when I send that apps on fabric for testing to clients it always shows update is available even if I downloaded latest version just now and than check again and it shows app update is available. And this only happens when I build apps from my mac when another person build same app, same source from windows than it works fine like after I download latest version it do not show version is available.
Any help on this ?

Ok, Finally found solution, Basically it works fine if we just build the APK using Build command or option from menu and then send via fabric, it do not work if we send APK which was generated from Build and run.

Getting "App Not Installed" message after attempting to install new version of Android app

I have an app that I developed wow like 8 to 10 years ago, but I have been updating it constantly at least once a year or so.
I'm actually in the process of completely redoing the app from scratch, and it's working great when I run it on my Android from my computer, but when I build it with a signing key on PhoneGap Build, I get the error message "App Not Installed." when I try to install the apk.
I've read through several other posts on the topic and I can attest:
I have plenty of storage space on the phone.
The new version number is larger than the old version number.
The signing key is the same as the original version.
I do not have any version of the app currently installed on my phone.
Any other ideas on what may be causing this?
I've removed all my plugins to take that out of the equation, but I still get the same error.
The original app was build with OnsenUI and Cordova.
The new app is build in Ionic 5.4.16, Cordova 9.0.0, and Android 8.1.0.
Something else I have noticed is that if I change the app id (com.company.appname) to anything else (i.e. com.company.appnamedev), it installs. I feel like this is very indicative of the issue, but I don't know what to do with it.
Very much appreciate any guidance to finding the problem.
Unfortunately this isn't going to be the answer many of you solution seekers are hoping for, but I got it to work. Based on Mike N.'s suggestion, I attempted to sign it locally and push it to my device with adb. In doing that, I was having trouble with remnants of two older plugins (onesignal and admob) that I had already removed from my config.xml file.
I'm really not sure why, but after I got rid of those old pieces in my package.json, I attempt to push it to phonegap build again and it was able to install. So, I guess the solution would be to make sure you have fully removed any plugins that may be causing problems.
Now the big trick - adding these pieces of functionality back in. But, the app compiles on PhoneGap Build and the signed file installs on my device now.
UPDATE: So, it turns out this is directly related to the one signal plugin I'm using. Still figuring out why, but when I added it back in, it works great locally, but when I attempt to build with PhoneGap Build and load it to my phone, I get the error "App Not Installed." At least I know what's causing it now.
I finally figured out the root of all my issues. As it turns out, I had another half baked app I started and had on my phone under a different name and app identifier, but I had temporarily dropped the same google-services.json and GoogleService-Info.plist files into that other app that I use for the one in question here.
After employing Mike N's suggestion, I got the error:
adb: failed to install mynewapp.apk: Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_DUPLICATE_PERMISSION: Package com.company.new attempting to redeclare permission com.company.new.permission.RECEIVE_ADM_MESSAGE already owned by com.company.old]
I uninstalled the old app that should not have had those files to begin with and everything installs and works great now. Hopefully this helps someone else out who encounters the same bizarre situation.
You can use My APK application and installing an apk using My APK Installer (MAI).
If there is an error, it will show the detail (like duplicate permission, provider, mismatch signature,...)

How to resolve "Can't Update the app(Error Code : 901)" error?

I'm migrating one of my live applications from Native to Xamarin. I have successfully done that and now I'm trying to release the same on Google Play Store.
I have generated a release build for the same in Xamarin android. Following are the scenarios which will describe the issue I'm facing -
Fresh Install - As I have a release apk for my application, I'm able to install it on my device and it's working smoothly.
Update Scenario - As I have mentioned earlier that the application is already live which was developed on Native Android, I have installed the live version of the same and tried updating the app using the latest release build that I have generated from Xamarin. In this case I'm getting the issue.

What I have tried so far to resolve the issue -
As there are multiple questions related to this issue, I have tried following things to get rid of this issue -
Clear data and Clear Cache of Google Play Store application.
Checked the Signing keys are same as before.
Checked the package name is same as before.
Removed the Google account and added again as per the suggestions.
I need to resolve this error soon, so I can't use the Fresh Install technique as an option.
I am able to identify the issue and fortunate that it got resolved. Sharing it here so if anyone gets stuck for the same issue then they can refer this.
Identified Issue - The issue was quite silly as the version code wasn't getting updated from the UI of Android Manifest even if I was changing the values. That might be the glitch in Xamarin or Visual Studio (for Xamarin).
What I did to resolve this - I manually deleted the declaration of Version Code and other values which weren't changing from AndroidManifest.xml then from the UI section of the Manifest I upgraded the Version Code and build the solution for release. That's how things got resolved at my end.

APKs generated through Eclipse are accepted or not?

I am a little new to Android development.
I have a hybrid app which uses Apache cordova plugins.
I am using eclipse to generate the APK.
But when I publish the APK, the Google play store rejects it saying:
APP UPDATE REJECTED
Your APK has been rejected for containing security vulnerabilities, which violates the Malicious Behavior policy. The Alerts page has more information about how to resolve the issue. If you submitted an update, the previous version of your app is still live on Google Play.
And, when I click on the alerts page the following error shows up:

I have already tried the followings:
Update the android platform (cordova platform update android), but no positive results.
I could not update all the cordova plugins as I am getting errors. (wanted to know can this be the issue)
I am building this APK using the Eclipse IDE and I went through this ADT plugin release note https://developer.android.com/studio/tools/sdk/eclipse-adt.html which says: The Eclipse ADT plugin is no longer supported
Eventually I will be importing my project to Android studio but I want an app update immediately thats why still using Eclipse.
If Eclipse is the reason then I immediately need to import my app to Android studio.
I want to figure out that which one of the last two point is responsible for my app rejection.
Also, if none of these are responsible then what could be the possible reason for my app rejection.

An APK is an APK, regardless of where you developed the code. You can write the code in Eclipse, Android Studio, or you can write the code in your favorite plain text editor. The end APK will be indistinguishable regardless of which editor you use.
The error in this case seems to be pretty clear- your version of Cordova has known vulnerabilities and you need to update that.
Run cordova platform version android to check your version. The error message you are receiving will show for anything less than 4.1.1.
The best path would probably be to upgrade to 5.x, as detailed here.

Fabric plugin cannot login via Android Studio

I am using Android Studio 1.5, Fabric Plugin 2.3.1. What possible reasons would Fabric not allow me to login?
The whole process is completely knackered. Any Fabric link I visit including the organization settings link located here directs me to the on-boarding link where all I can do is view instructions on how to download the plugin. I have installed the plugin, login and I see the list of Fabric components for about 2 seconds before it brings me back to the login screen with no message at all.
The credentials are fine (incorrect credentials give me an orange message saying so). I have tried it with 3 different accounts.
So now I am in a situation where I have 3 accounts, all of which only allow me to view instructions on how to download the plugin, and the plugin will not let me get further than the login screen. I could do this manually but cannot access the organization settings screen either. Any ideas?
EDIT: This is the closest similar issue I could find on their forums but it relates to a Mac (I'm on Windows 10, Java version jdk1.7.0_79)
What fixed it for me was adding the authKey to the application block in the main manifest.
NOTE: at the time of this issue, I am using Android Studio 2.0 Beta 6. We believe that there might be an issue with the Fabric plugin and this version.
To see what's happening to the Fabric plugin, I had to open the Console app and view the logs in realtime. Sure enough, it showed that was authenticated with my credentials, AND it passed back the reason I was being sent right back to the login: Missing authkey in the application block.
So I copied an authkey node from a previous project and added it to the manifest and bingo - it took me to the screen to install Crashlytics.
The thing is, I could have sworn that the Plugin was supposed to GIVE me the authkey after it installed Crashlytics, so I was a bit puzzled as to why this worked. But it did.
Again, this is with Android Studio 2.0 Beta6 so it might be only related to that. But using the Console to diagnose the issue with the Fabric Plugin is the take away here.
Download the fabric plugin for android studio via jetbrains.com using your prefered browser(i.e mozilla,chrome etc).
after your file get downloaded(not via andriod studio), open your AndroiStudio, goto --file>>settings>>plugin>>install plugin from disk, give the .jar file which you have downloaded, then restart studio

Can not install my own generated apk

I updated my app and tested it on my device. Everything works fine if I test the app via the run button in eclipse but if I export it into an apk and try to install the apk it fails.
There is no error code or anything else, it just says the app has not been installed.
Any idea why this happens? I only changed a few things in my app: I removed the basegameutils lib from my app and migrated to the new api without basegameutils. Thats it (except for some bugfixes but that can not be the cause).
I did already restart eclipse and cleaned all projects mutiple times.
The target sdk is 22 and I am using newest system images and so on for that api level (my divce is a stock nexus 6 with 5.1.1 running). I also updated my build tools to 23.0.1 from 22.0.1 and removed the 22 version. Is this the cause?
I also tried to upload the apk in the dev console and there were no erros.

The logcat output says the signature does not match the previously installed version.
If i try to install the current live version via the play store there is also an error message saying i can not install this app because another user already installed an incompatible version on this device (but i dont have it installed and i dont have multiple users on the device).
If i got to the app menu in the settings my app is shown at the bottom of the list but there is a note saying the app is not installed for the users. If i click on it all buttons are unclickable (so i can not uninstall it).
What is happening?
For me, selecting Signature Version v1 and v2 both solved the problem
Your signature changed, so as you mentioned you must uninstall the previous version. You tried to uninstall from the device UI and that fails - so try it from the command-line:
adb uninstall your_package_name
Seen on Nexus devices, occasionally only command-line uninstalls work.
I found a solution but I still have no idea what caused the problem.
somewhere on my device my app was still installed even though it didnt show up in the app drawer and the play store told me the same. In the settings/apps menu my app was still present (as i mentioned in the edit of my original post) so i clicked on it. If you click on the menu button you can chose unisntall for all users which did the trick. now I can install my apk again.
I have no idea how this happened but there you go, i hope this helps.

I was facing same problem And I solved it this way, For Current Updated Android Studio 2.3
Build > Generate Signed apk.
Create Keystore path.
Put Password, alias, key password.
Build type select accordingly(eg to release in playstore use release).
Signature Version select both V1 and V2 checkboxes.
Finsih.
Go to the apk from explorer and use it for your playstore or in devices as Signed and Certified apk file.
For me the solution was to disable Play Protect on device.
You can not run signed apk directly in your android device .
I you want to run your apk then follow below steps :
1) Go to your device settings
2) In setting you find applications
3) In application checked unknown sources
This will allow you to run your signed apk without downloading from play store.

The problem is because you have a version of your testing app. So, you're not really upgrading the app! Those are two different apps. You must first uninstall previous version (testing) so you can install the release (signed) version of your app.
I encountered this problem today and tried a few suggestions here, and this is how I solved the issue: I cleared my phone's caches / junk files and also uninstalled the test versions of the app and their APKs, and then reinstalled the new APK. Try this first before getting worried. 🙂
I got the save Error just incase someone faces this. For me it was because i have multiple projects for the same app on the phone. you need to delete older versions of the app from your phone.
If you have two options (V1 (jar signature) and V2 (Full APK Signature)) before generation signed apk. you should use V1 jar signature now, because there is no backward compatibility and all android phones with version < 7 won't accept this signature. Backward compatibility will be added in some next N Developer Preview.

In my case it was the proguardFiles path in build.gradle that caused this problem
Currently PlayStore performs regular checks for apps and device for harmful behavior. Installing signed APK manually is treated like unusually behavior so is preventend.
So turn off play protect feature temporary and your install will work as charm!
step one - open play store and select play protect
step two - click play protection setting button
step three - disable
step four - close and install your APK manually
