I am developing my android application on Android-Studio. My project was checked out project from Git version control. Everything works fine. Except that I cannot see build.gradle file. Hence I am unable to add modules or libraries.
Why doesn't my project has a build.gradle file ?!
Did I do anything wrong to import my project from Git ?
What should I do to be able to add libraries without having build.gradle ?
Here is what I did to import my project:
Check out project from Version Control -> Git,
after cloning, the following box appears:
I click `Yes. The follwoing box appears:
I accept the default options and click Ok, then the following box appear:
Again, I accept the default options and click Ok
Then my projec loads on Android-Studio. It shows me the following message:
Before I click on add root, the following box appears:
I click on dont' remind me again for this project. After that I can continue programming (Git and Version Control is working). But build.gradle is nowhere to be found !!
UPDATE 1:
The following image is the project view:
what am I doing wrong ?
UPDATE 2:
Here is the Android view:
Choose Android View instead of Project View.. enjoy

With huge help from Stack Overflow community, I figure out how to solve it. Here is what I did:
I totally removed Android-Studio following this guidance, then ...
I installed Gradle from this link, then ...
I re-installed Android-Studio following this link:
I am gussing the main problem was that I didn't installed Gradle manually and hence Android-Studio was using some sort of Gradle-Wrapper to allow the application to run.
Now, finally I can edit build.gradle.

I've found some webpage but it does not guide me back to normal android project view.
http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/studio-androidview.html
I did File => Other Settings => Default Project Structure => Default Settings => OK It make even worse, import library become not function-able.
I also had this problem (creating new project also looked similar to IntelliJ IDEA), got it fixed when I enabled some Android-related plugins.
Go to Preferences (Settings on Windows and Linux) > Plugins and enable Android Support, at a minimum.
Now you will have "Android" option in the Project View.
Try:
View -> Tool Windows -> Project OR the shortcut is alt+1.
If that's not working try:
Window -> Restore Default Layout OR the shortcut is shift+F12.
Also, check that Studio is up to date:
Help -> Check for update...
None of the above solutions worked for me so I fixed this by removing the .gradle and .idea folders from my project.
The square at the bottom left corner of android studio lets you spread the screen or it populates it with side menus.
For me, it happened when I used Kotlin KTS for Gradle files, but created a java library module for this project. After trying to reimport project I got an error:
New Gradle Sync is not supported due to containing buildSrc module
Solution:
Migrate added module to kts
Remove created by Wizard settings.gradle, if you already use settings.gradle.kts
Reimport project
File -> Close project
Android Studio: import project
Show it your current project location
Just had the problem happen to me again. I got the problem solved, but unfortunately I can't confirm the solution, now that it's fix; but I have strong suspicions on what was the cause.
In my case, the problem occurred as a result of reorganizing my project directory. My projects are stored in given directory lets call it "Projects". I renamed that fold to "ProjectsBackup" and created a new "Projects" directory. I then moved selected projects now contained in the "ProjectBackup" directory to the new "Projects" directory. After moving the first project, I used Android Studio to open that project. That's when the problem occurred. I got a message that it couldn't find the gradle-wrapper and offered me the choice to create it. The gradle-wrapper is stored in a directory call "gradle" and its stored in the "Projects" directory. I had not copied that directory over from the "ProjectsBackup" to the new "Projects" directory. At the time, I thought nothing about that since, a new one was created. After trying all the various suggestion in this problem discussion, android studio offered a notification from me to update my "android gradle" plugin. I did the update and after that the "android" view was now available for me to select. The android gradle update fixed the problem.
I unfortunately, can't tell you what changed as a result of the update, nor can I tell you how you can force Android Studio to update or reinstall the android gradle plugin. All I can tell you is that I got lucky that android studio gave me that notification to update the android gradle plugin. Things like "file/project structure" and changing the Android Gradle Plugin Version, didn't fix the problem. What I did notice, was that when I first looked at that, the drop-down list of android gradle versions was an empty list. I manually put one in "3.6.3", but it didn't help. If you run into this problems I would suggest you look at the dates of the two file in the "wrapper" directory and compare those to projects you may have that are working correctly with the android view. I wish I would have checked the date of the wrapper jar file, when it wasn't working. That's what I think might have been wrong (i.e. I got a wrapper.jar file that was incompatible with my version of android studio - unfortunately I can't prove that)
problem solve i have click this button
I´m trying to get a gradle project running on my Mac, command line building works just fine. When I open the Project, all Android classes seem not to be found.
As a reference I also tried with this open source project (https://github.com/ligi/PassAndroid) of a friend of mine. Same problem there.
I´ve tried with the sample code (BasicMediaRouter), provided with the SDK, and I only had to change the android plugin version that it was referencing, so everything seemed normal.
Building and running also works, it´s just Android Studio that is broken.
I have the same problems with IntelliJ CE13.
Did you click 'sync project with gradle files'? (you can find it using cmd+shift+a and write it)
What happens if you position cursor on the red word (for example Bitmap) and click Alt+Enter?
It looks like you did not set up Android SDK path. You can set in up in FIle->Project Structure->SDK Path (or similar depending on what version of Android Studio you have)
What ended up helping is using the import Project function on the build.gradle file.
File -> Open on the build.gradle file led to the problems.
I have little experience with importing libraries. I am using Android Studio, and am trying to use parse.com's library with no luck. I followed these instructions, and tried a few other things when that didn't work. Please help me out. Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks for your time.
This is my MainActivity where I would initialize my Parse client key:
Project Structure showing I have imported the libraries:
UPDATE
Gradle:
UPDATE:
When I try to Build, I get this error: Gradle: error: package com.parse does not exist
When I try cleaning through command prompt
Put the jar into the libs folder
Right click it and hit 'Add as library'
Ensure that compile files('libs/~~~~~~~~.jar') is in your build.gradle file
Do a clean build (You can do this easily in android studio but just as a better method, go to your project folder using windows explorer and open a Command window there by right clicking the folder while holding shift and type gradlew build.
To add to the answer of #ThePoloDoc and for your update Command Prompt image, you need to do the following to clear that error:
Go to Control Panel -> System -> Right Side see for Advanced System settings
Select Environmental Variables
In the new window, search for the PATH variable. Add the java installation folder something similar to C:\PATH_TO_JDK\bin
Replace the PATH_TO_JDK with the installation of your java directory
Try opening the command prompt and you'll see the error gone.
UPDATE:
I have got a doubt in your question. Why do you manually compile gradle? I use Android Studio. But I always click the Sync Project with Gradle Files button on the top. It does everything for me
I'm using git, and creating lots of git branches for new features on a project I'm working on. Every once in a while, I'll create a new branch off master as usual (let's call this broken-branch, and this error appears:
Android Source Generator: [demo] AndroidManifest.xml file not found
I'll create a new branch off master, cherrypick the changes on broken-branch onto this one, and everything works fine. Why do I get this error, and how can I avoid it?
This happened to me today.. I clicked "Sync Project with Gradle Files" and all went fine.
While my IDE is IDEA13 with maven. Work fine with maven in command line, while using IDEA run( shift + F10) show this error. I do as below and fix this:
1.Open .iml in the project root.
2.Find some line like:
<option name="USE_CUSTOM_COMPILER_MANIFEST" value="true" />
3.Remove this line or change value to false.
This is my work way.
May Help.
I use IntelliJ Idea and found next solution:
in the root of the project (in catalog with root build.gradle) create file settings.gradle which consist include ':app'
Than go to IDE and run Gradle - refresh.
I know the problem in IDEA because you create a new project with Java configuration (not android, but with android sdk dependency)
File > New Project > Java (Java Module) > Project SDK Android 4.X
Here is the solution :
File > New Project > Android (Application Module)
If you are using Maven, backup the project and close it. Open IntelliJ and select Open..., choose the pom.xml file and then select yes to open this project. Because there is already a project a popup should appear, choose 'Delete Existing Project and Import'.
Note: I'm using IntelliJ Community Edition version 13
When I get "AndroidManifest.xml file not found" error I clean and then refresh the project and these steps seem to fix the problem.
It happens to me when I don't have .iml file to open the project. It's very easy to fix, you just need to close the project and reopen it taking care of select build.gradle file before click open.
I hope it helps somebody.
This worked for me.
My project already had a settings.gradle file.
I simple had to add the line include ':app' . N ow i can build and do everything.
open IDE
project
|--->build automatically
uncheck it
clean the project
check build automatically opriot
I just had this problem while trying to build the swagger code gen project. For whatever reason IntelliJ thought I should have an Android facet. Removing this facet allowed the entire project to build.
If in case, you encounter an error which shows:
AndroidManifest.xml file is not found
All that you have to do is reinstall the flutter package and the error is resolved!!!
Go File,Project Structure or press Ctrl+Shift+Alt+S,
Go Facets, Select your android project, in the structure there are configuration files, folders. Image of structure tab (before)
Location of AndroidManifest file was like this:
D:\Programming\Dart Flutter Projects\tip_calculator\AndroidManifest.xml
Change the location like this.
Image of structure tab (after)
Changed it to here:
D:\Programming\Dart Flutter Projects\tip_calculator\android\app\src\profile\AndroidManifest.xml
flutter upgrade --force
Helped me.
Works for you?
I am newbie in the world of android app development. I was creating a project Example on Android Studio. I have my LunchList.java file in src/main/java/apt.tutorial.lunchlist .Till yesterday Everything was working fine. But when I open android Studio today I got an error saying
"The modules below have been removed from Gradle structure. Check
those to be removed from the project too:"
☑ LunchList
☑ LunchList-LunchList
And there is OK and Cancel Button. I don't want to remove them. So I click cancel and proceed.
Then when I tried to run the application in emulator the emulator runs but nothing happens. And I got this error
Waiting for device.
Target device: emulator-5554 (Android)
ERROR: APK path is not specified for module "LunchList-LunchList"
I don't know what went wrong. Please help me.
[Edit: I tried unchecking both of them and click OK. But after that I'm not getting the first error but still getting the second error ]
Exit Android studio. Launch it with Administrator Privilege.
This solved the problem with Android Studio v0.1 in Windows 7.
I had the same issue, I unselected the 2 files and then received the error
"ERROR: APK path is not specified for module"
I just restarted Android Studio and reopened the project and then it worked normal again.
It is indeed a bug but there's a simple work around.
Here's what worked for me: delete .idea/ and *.iml files, then open a project again (as gradle project) - all the idea files will be recreated - and everything works fine
I had the same error with IntelliJ CE.
I fixed it by choosing "Inherit project compile output path" in the strong text imodule settings (Paths tab > Compiler output)
In my case, I imported the same project over again. Android Studio overrode the old settings. Then this error went away!
this happened when i update to 2.0. i had to change the dependencies in the build.gradle file under src dir not gradle dir. change from
dependencies {
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:0.4.0'
}
to
dependencies {
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:0.5.+'
}
Not sure how much help this will be, but I saw that same error this morning after updating to Android Studio 0.2.0. First, I needed to modifying my build.gradle file to indicate that the correct gradle plugin to use with my project was version 0.5.0 (rather than 0.4). After modifying build.gradle, I saw the "APK path is not specified for module .." error when attempting to build. I solved this by simply quitting and restarting Android Studio.
I had the same issue and found the solution.
Stackoverflow Question
this is the same way to fix the error
Also lower down in there is "SDKs" i also had to make them match.
Name and Build Target.
Hope it helps it did me. apparently the IntelliJ is what Android Studio is.
I've found that the issue is usually if you've changed or moved the folder to a different location.
If you open up the .idea folder in AndroidStudio, have a search for any reference to the old location. If you find some, just replace with the new location. It would seem some of the lines are hardcoded.
There is a manual "how to move project" here
I moved progect, got your problem, followed this manual, got window like you and choose "OK".
And now it works very well.
It helped me to set the right SDK...
I used the one in Program Files, what did not work!
Then i found out to use the following SDK (set in local.properties):
sdk.dir=C:/Program Files (x86)/Android/android-studio/sdk
Hope this helps...
I find this:
http://www.chrisdew.com/blog/2013/07/17/android-studio-nosuchmethoderror-lazystringarraylist/
it is realy help for me.
Thus, in my case, the problem was to have two libraries:
protobuf-2.4.1.jar
and new protobuf-2.5.0.jar
it resulted error:
APK path is not specified for module “Example-Example”
To correct this, rename file protobuf-2.4.1.jar to protobuf-2.4.1.jar.disabled
mv protobuf-2.4.1.jar protobuf-2.4.1.jar.disabled
Finally! Updated solution found here:
Android APK path is not specified for module
Open Project structure
Click on Modules tab
Expand your project and click on Android
On right side click on Compiler tab
Looking for "APK path" field
Enter your project root folder, i.e. /Users/bla/project/my.apk
Click Apply and Ok
