android:visibility="gone" does not clear up the space on certain devices: - android

As you can understand from it's name llBottom is a LinearLayout that should be at the bottom of the screen, and it is. In it I have a RelativeLayout that contains several views and under it I placed an AdView.
I start the AdView with visibility="gone" and I intend to display it based on sever preferences.
The problem is: While this behaves as intended on Nexus 5X the AdView is removed and llGameInformation is the most lower ViewGroup in the layout, on Galaxy devices on the other side AdView is not visible but still takes up the space, so the llGameInformation has an empty space bellow it.
Does someone know what would be the right way to handle this? so no empty space will be left on all devices?

You should wrap your AdView with FrameLayout and set its viability to gone, it could be that the view change it's visibility on it's own.
If you like to dive deeper or if previous not working, you can write a costume FrameLayout and see if somebody actually try to change its visibility that is not you, in such case you will be able to debug it and block it, as its your view.
There is no way somebody will be able to change your FrameLayout viability if you don't like it to.

Making the Button's align_parentBottom = "true" when other view's height is not Zero

First the title may look senseless but I don't know how I describe my problem well in the title.
I have a Relative layout which has 2 buttons (Past games and Upcoming Games) and 2 listviews. Whenever a button is pressed the associated listview is collapsed (height will be zero) if it is already expanded or the reverse will happen. ( i used this solution)
Problem:
Everything is fine when I run it on a 5-inch screen phone. Please see the following picture:

But if I run it on a 10-inch tablet it looks like this:

The same will happen when it will run on less than 5-inch phone.
My questions
Do I need to make another layout for the tablet? like in the layout-large folder?
or I can use some event(s) in Jave file that dynamically set the buttons align parent bottom property when the listview is not collapsed.
or it can be fixed in my current XML

Button size and padding within RelativeLayout

I'm attempting to create a a Heading + button similar to the Google Music App, e.g. where there is a "Songs" Header on the Left and then on the right there is a Button with the text "X more"..
I've using a RelativeLayout for the TextView and Button
My problem is that the button is taking up the size of the layout that contains the text the height is all wrong and the padding doesn't seem to do anything.

What am I doing wrong here?
RelativeLayouts are designed to have children in the layout "relative" to each other. In other words, if you want the Button to the right of the Textview, you need to tell it.
Because you are aligning relative to the parent LEFT / RIGHT, it appears that things are "kind of" working.
You may be better off with a LinearLayout, depending on your needs. LinearLayouts use "orientation" not RelativeLayouts.
You should look over some tutorials (like this one: http://mobile.tutsplus.com/tutorials/android/android-layout/) but ultimately you will probably put your button in first and then your text view so that the textview content will wrap appropriately.
To get the same effect as the Music App I ended up using a RelativeLayout but instead of a Button I'm using another TextView, this is giving the impression it's a button but it gives me more scope to format the background etc. I think just setup a OnClickListener in the code

Scrollview with Linear and Relative Layout is all boxed up, so I cannot reposition items

I am creating a ScrollView to house my relativelayout. The RelativeLayout seems to need to be inside a LinearLayout (from online). However it has gone all boxed up, with the items overlapping each other. This means I cannot reposition stuff. How can I fix this? My code is like this:

And like all properly filled out. I actually just inserted the LinearLayout and ScrollView around my relativelayout I already had. Is there a better solution to needing a RelativeLayout to scroll, or what am I doing wrong.
It get's all bunched up in the UI viewer in Eclipse...

Your items are overlapping one another in the RelativeLayout as you most likely did not specifiy the positions of each item individualy, though it is difficult to determine without seeing the entire layout xml.
Please read http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/layout/relative.html for more information on how RelativeLayouts work.
As far as the XML is concerned, it seems that their is a conception mistake on how your Views are related to each others.
Let's start with the RelativeLayout that has a wrap_content height. No problem on that but it must be noted.
The first element inside this RelativeLayout is positioned at the bottom of the RelativeLayout. Still no problem on this point.
Thing is, the second View is positioned ABOVE the first one, this means that the height of the RelativeLayout is getting bigger when the second View is inserted, but the first View should be at the bottom of the layout so it is repositioned again thus overlap with the second View.
Can you try to position the first View with layout_alignParentTop="true" ?
Maybe this will fixe your problem.

How to achieve this kind of layout in Android

I'm new to Android development and I'm trying to achieve a layout for my app that is capable of handling different screen resolutions/ratios.
I've been reading a lot of the documentation and questions on this site to try to understand the basics and concepts.
First I went through:

I've got a pretty basic idea on how to handle things out. But still, its pretty difficult for a starter to get going, and I found myself stucked trying to achieve the solution I came up with.
I designed my app to a target resolution of 480x800, and set it up to always show in portrait mode.
This is how it looks like and how I understand it should work (I used Waldo for the sake of example haha):

My root Layout is a LinearLayout, wich contains 3 other Layouts being A and C set up to a weight of 0.8 while B is at 8.4. This is all fine, but the contents of B are set up to DP units at the moment just to be able to test.
B consists of a frame Layout who has 3 other Layouts inside, where 2 of them are working fine, and shown only when needed. The problem is that I need B to be able to adapt based on the contents of it first child: a LinearLayout wich contains 2 ImageView and 1 ProgressBar. I need that those ImageView always keep their ratio.
Here is an example of how it should work:

Imagine those 4 are real screens, wich vary in ratio and size. So my app should only adapt B (from my first image) to keep the images original ratio.

The last thing that stays unclear to me is how to handle the text and button sizes. Should I set them in DPs? How do I get them to scale accordingly like it can be seen on the bottom of my second picture.

I'm not sure, if I got your question right.
However, you can specify different layouts for different screen sizes and orientations, as described here: http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html
Just give the respective suffix in the name of your layout XML file.
I ended up creating a custom View for my images. The view calculates the space thats left on its parent, scales the images manually and then resizes itself to the same size of the resulting image.
To resize the progress bar to have the same width as the images, I used a custom listener that gets triggered when my custom views get resized. Then I resize the progressbar to match their width.
With this I achieved what I wanted, a layout that will work perfectly in all screen sizes.

Unable to specify the alignComponent for an ImageButton

I'm trying to set my TextView to the left of an ImageButton, but I can't seems to find this option.
I was expecting to use something like android:layout_alignLeft, but this option is missing.
I've tried to google the issue, but couldn't find any relative results.
Without it my TextView overlaps the ImageButton and I want to avoid it.

I think what you need is a RelativeLayout. You can specify your TextView to the left of your ImageView with it's specifications. Your code would look something like this:

The reason FrameLayout isn't working is because it's purpose is to overlay items on top of each other, which wouldn't work at all!
If that isn't what you're looking for, you could also use a TableLayout in which items are arranged in columns.
