I am working on an android app built on apache cordova. The app used to send your location via SMS, Email & in app notification to your predefined contacts. I want this sharing event to be triggered on double tapping on screen (when locked) or 3-4 times pressing the power button/ volume button.
Its for emergency situation, when user may not be able to unlock phone & open app to share any info.
I've searched a lot but could not find any relevant info. is there any available plugin to do that? I know very little of JAVA. Expecting any plugin that would allow me to launch the app(any activity) when phone is locked.
Any helpful information or suggestions are appreciated.
To accomplish this kind of task, you need to run a service in background, it is not possible to use any cordova webview, so you won't be able to run any javascript.
I don't think there is any plugin doing such a thing as it is very specialized.
I needed to create an app that needed to send notification to the user depending on his location. It ended up in writing a native plugin...
So the best advice I can give you is "It's never too late to learn Java" ;-)
maybe some other JS framework (maybe NativeScript) allows such things but I never used it yet so it might be impossible too.

I have created a mini App that helps me playing with beacons.
-what i have done so far-
So until now, I have successfully connected my App to the beacon, made 2 texts, so when I'm in the app and get in the beacon's range, the texts are changing so I can see that, move 2m away or turning the beacon upside down so it simulates Out of range, and it will show the message that I'm not in the range anymore.
So far so good, I have also successfully made the app to show notifications when I get close to the beacon, and when I click the notification to open a second activity.
-the problem-
Now, I want to show a notification when I get in the beacon's range, and the app is closed (not in the background). And after, when I click on that Notification to open my app / open App Google Play's Page if not installed.
I have searched on the internet but I haven't found anything conclusive.
If you guys know anything, or have you accomplished this task, it would be great if you can help with it.
If you need more info like, my activities code I can upload it, but I considered unimportant.
Thanks!
Two points:
In order to make a phone react to a beacon without your app installed (e.g. to launch a PlayStore page) you need an app prei-nstalled on all phones that does this for you. The Google Play Services app used to do this through the Nearby feature, but it was discontinued in Nov. 2018 because of spam concerns. Since then this is no longer possible to do.
If you do have your app installed it is a straightforward process to detect in the background and send notifications. The Android Beacon Library provides instructions here:. https://altbeacon.github.io/android-beacon-library/notifications.html
You could create a BoradcastReceiver that intercept the android.intent.action.BOOT_COMPLETED.
In that way, you can launch a part of your app when you turn on the device.
There, you can use a Service or something that can manage the interactions with Beacons.
(BTW, i never worked with Beacons, i don't know what are the policies that you must follow).
If you don't need to launch the app when the device is turned on, anyway you can use a simple Service

I want to code an app that hinders other app from launching. Can someone please help to start from the beginning. Can someone provide an example and i'll try my best to understand it. Thanks (Full code if possible :D)
One example is AppBlock in the play store.
To create a feature that 'blocks' other apps from running like AppBlock, you simply just need to show a popup on top of the other apps.
Look into SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW, with this, you can draw on top of any other app.
Once you have that working, you should look into the other permissions of AppBlock,as it'll show you what they're doing.
AppBlock's Permissions
bind to an accessibility service
update component usage statistics
receive data from Internet
view network connections
full network access
run at startup
reorder running apps
control vibration
prevent device from sleeping
i am going to implement emergency calling in cordova phonegap. For safety purpose, app which can provide calling functionality (user can save emergency phone number using app user can edit whenever he/she want).
I cant find way to move forward. please help me out. I even dont know is this possible or not using cordova.
I have created an app. Works great, but I want some same functionality as gmail uses:
When I receive a new email, I get a notification. I inspected my phone and saw no services or applications running that look like the gmail-app.
I have investigated the AlarmManager and services, but as soon as I stop the app both don't work anymore.
Could someone give me a hint how to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance
I inspected my phone and saw no services or applications running that look like the gmail-app.
Partly, that is because Gmail gets such notifications via broadcast Intents from the OS, via the subsystem we see as C2DM (which is why you do not see a process). Partly, that is because Gmail is part of the firmware and may get some extra benefits as a result, in terms of resisting the normal behaviors that befall an app that is force-stopped.
Could someone give me a hint how to accomplish this?
You can't. Particularly on Android 3.1+, if your app is force-stopped, it will not run again until the user manually runs one of your activities (e.g., from the launcher).
My team is trying to build an Android application for a tablet that will be dedicated for this sole purpose. One of the requirements is that the application is the only thing running on the device (at least from the user's point of view). The user should not be able to close it or use any other functionality from the OS (settings, other apps, etc.).
We have been doing some research and so far have not found anything. Is this we are trying to do even possible ? Does anybody have any idea how we could approach this ? Maybe blocking the buttons ?
Thanks,
It is possible but would be ugly in the long run without a custom built rom (http://xda-developers.com has instructions on how to do this), I wouldn't know where to start code wise - but there are a couple of applications which portray this kind of functionality - TodlerLock is one such app - its designed to stop todlers from from doing anything on the device, whilst the application keeps them entertained. It appears to intercept all button presses and acts as a home application to do this for the home button.
Then there are the programs like estrongs security manager that allows a user to set a password for some or all applications and basically stops the application being run without the password (it appears to intercept the intents and opens the security manager requesting the password first, if it fails it finishes the intent) - this maybe a much easier option to use something like this - you could set a password for most things, including settings and the security application itself, everything bar your application. This will stop the user doing anything you dont want them doing without the password.
You would have to set up the device for the user before hand though, as any home screen intercepter application can be changed but the user - so you would have to set the default, then lock access to the settings so the user can't change this action.
I think the only way of doing this to have your own custom version of Android built only for you. Get the android source, remove what ever you don't want and build it. I am not sure if you would ever want not to close it but you can make sure they can't install anything else on your ROM.
Im not sure about this, but, intercept the home intent and write your own custom home?
It sounds a lot simpler than writing your own custom rom.
This is not possible without OS changes. You cannot override the home button.
