I have created horizontal ListView using RecyclerView:
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/horizontal_recycler_view"
android:scrollbars="horizontal"
android:layout_width="433px"
android:layout_height="76px"
/>
But the problem is I want to reposition the scrollBar, when I try to do that then everything goes wrong. I have tried to add these two lines to RecyclerView:
android:scrollbarStyle="outsideOverlay"
android:paddingBottom="10dp"
If I use those two lines then scrollBar does not go further away from the listview, instead it creates result similar in this image:
It just shrunks the whole listview's height. Does anyone have other ideas on how to reposition scrollBar or maybe I have messed soething up and I do not understand something?

When I'm scrolling down, the items above the RecyclerView does not scroll unless I start touching from the layout above, and it only scrolls down when I have reached the end of the RecyclerView.
<NestedScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<LinearLayout>
<Some other items.../>
</LinearLayout>
<RecyclerView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"/>
</NestedScrollView>
Note:
I actually use a fixed size for the RecyclerView, setting it via the code below:
float height_recyclerview = (ScreenUtil.getHeight(context) - (height_banner + height_bottom_navigation + height_create_post));
LinearLayout.LayoutParams layoutParams = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(LinearLayout.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT, (int) height_recyclerview);
rv.setLayoutParams(layoutParams);
Why do I use fixed size if it works smoothly with wrap_content?
I will be displaying possibly thousands of items that may have
images, which will hurt performance if it does not actually do
recycling because of the issue that the RecyclerView is inside the
NestedScrollView
I have implemented an EndlessRecyclerViewScrollListener which has an
issue that it keeps loading more data from server continuously if
implemented with a RecyclerView that is within whatever scrollable
view, or if it is in a scrollable view, but does not have a fixed
height, even if you are not scrolling down.
I have tried the following:
set nested scrolling to false on the recycler view
try using scroll view instead of nested scroll view
a bunch of other code related to layouts and scrolling behaviors that others suggested which didn't work for me because I'm implementing it in a much more complicated layout and the fact that I use EndlessRecyclerViewScrollListener
What I want to fix?
I want to make the page scroll like a single page, not as a separate scrollable view.
Note that my recycler view has a fixed height that takes the entire screen's space meaning that its height is actually fit assuming that the linear layout above is not visible anymore if the user has scrolled down.
The ideal scenario is to make the scrollview scroll down first, to make the recycler view take the entire screen, so that the recyclerview will scroll however the user wants to.
Then the linearlayout above which should not be visible anymore if the recycler view has taken up all the space of the screen, should only show up if the recycler view has reached the top/first item, if the user keeps scrolling back up.

Add app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior" to your recycler xml.
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/conversation"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
NestedScrollView Smooth Scrolling
recyclerView.isNestedScrollingEnabled = true
Do this programmatically
<androidx.core.widget.NestedScrollView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:fillViewport="true"

Hi I have a fragment with two RecyclerViews in it, one above the other.
The first is a list of items for the user to take an action on and the second is where the items will be populated once the action is taken. So when an item is removed from the top list it is added to the bottom list.
The issue I am having is when I remove an item from the top RecyclerView all the remaining items in the top RecyclerView move up to fill in the space left by the removed item, but this leaves a gap between the top and bottom RecyclerViews.
How can I move the bottom recyclerview up to fill in the gap created once an item is removed from the top RecyclerView
Here is my layout xml
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:id="#+id/pending_tasks"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:layout_below="#id/pending_tasks"
android:id="#+id/completed_tasks"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
</RelativeLayout>
I have tried calling invalidate() on the bottom RecyclerView but that has not worked. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
It's impossible to update layout size once it's been displayed on the screen. If you modify the content of your RecyclerView you can't just simply refresh the layout to shrink it.
I would suggest using single RecyclerView and storing lower bound of the first list in some variable. Then simply update it accordingly to modifications in your first list.
Another solution which may help you:
Change Relative layout width and height dynamically
Over the past few weeks I've been learning to use the RecyclerView. I need to implement a horizontal list, ie, that by turning the device in landscape mode like so:
I found the best solution for this (how to create the horizontal displacement of RecyclerView, here), but encountered another problem. The item RecyclerView was larger than the height of the device (in landscape, horizontal), so I need to create a vertical and horizontal displacement, simultaneously.
I looked at the Android Developer methods for the LayoutManager class, but my skills are not high enough to understand most of the methods. I also tried putting a RecyclerView vertically inside another RecyclerView horizontally with all the content, but I get error:
IllegalStateException: RecyclerView has no LayoutManager
To rememedy this I removed all <View ... /> elements from the XML file, but this does not give any results.
To clarify what I am asking: is it possible to have my layout scroll both horizontally and vertically, and if you could explain how I would appreciate it.
I was so angry about all the problems that had tended with the application that had not thought about the easiest solution.
In a RecyclerView consists of two XML files, the main one where the RecyclerView is declared and another with content.
The simplest solution was to introduce the RecyclerView within a ScrollView. So I can move all items at a time thanks to ScrollView vertically and horizontally I can move the items thanks to RecyclerView in landscape mode.
activity_main.xml
<ScrollView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_margin="#dimen/cardIn_margin_ext">
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/recycler_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:scrollbarStyle="outsideInset"
android:scrollbars="horizontal" />
</ScrollView>
The accepted answer did'nt work for me. I had to use the HorizontalScrollView instead of simple ScrollView.
<HorizontalScrollView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_margin="#dimen/cardIn_margin_ext">
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/recycler_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:scrollbarStyle="outsideInset"
android:scrollbars="horizontal" />
</HorizontalScrollView >
im trying to insert 6 gridviews with 6 imageview above each of them ! the problem im facing is that i cant scroll my page to see all my girdviews the first gridview seems fine as it wraps all its contents and set the height to it the second gridview shows only first row and make it scrollable but i can't see my other gridviews i want a layout like
--ImageView--
--GridView1--
--ImageView--
--GridView2--
--ImageView--
--GridView3--
and so on
<LinearLayout>
<ImageView />
<GridView />
--
--
<GridView6 />
</LinearLayout>
i have tried using scrollview and all but couldn't get the results !
Thanks
Hee is how you can do this. Check the answer here. It is an expandable height GridView, which you will want to import / create in your project. What that basically means is that as more items are added to the GridView, it will just expand its height, as opposed to keeping its height set and using scrolling. This is exactly what you want.
Once you have the ExpandableHeightGridView in your project, go to your XML layout where you want the GridView to be. You can then do something like this (paraphrasing):
<ScrollView ...>
<RelativeLayout ...>
<com.example.ExpandableHeightGridView ... />
<other view items />
</RelativeLayout>
</ScrollView>
Then, in your activity where you set the GridView's adapter, you want to make sure you set it to expand. So:
ExpandableHeightGridView gridView = (ExpandableHeightGridView) findViewById(R.id.myId);
gridView.setAdapter(yourAdapter);
gridView.setExpanded(true);
The reason you want this expandable GridView is because, the fact that a standard GridView doesn't expand is what causes it to scroll. It sticks to a certain height, and then as more items fill it past its view bounds, it becomes scrollable. Now, with this, your GridView will always expand its height to fit the content within it, thus never allowing it to enter its scrolling mode. This enables you to use it inside of the ScrollView and use other view elements above or below it within the ScrollView, and have them all scroll.
This should give you the result you're looking for. Let me know if you have any questions.
I am not able to scroll in a scrollview which contains a listview and is filled dynamically as I get data from the webservice.
I am able to do scrolling in emulator through mouse wheel, but in avtual device I can not scroll the list.
The attributes of scrollview are
<ScrollView
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:layout_marginTop="10dp"
android:layout_weight="0.6"
android:fillViewport="true"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:padding="6.0dip"
android:scrollbarAlwaysDrawVerticalTrack="true"
android:scrollbarFadeDuration="5000"
android:scrollbarSize="20dp"
android:scrollbarStyle="insideOverlay"
android:scrollbars="vertical" >
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/linearLayout2"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:gravity="center_vertical"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:padding="2dp" >
<ListView
android:id="#+id/listbox_list"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:layout_weight="599.84"
android:minHeight="250dp" >
</ListView>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
Please help me soon
by just looking at the layout_width and layout_height of your elements, it's clear that your scrollview will not scroll. unless you have a fixed height listview, never put a listview inside a scrollview (or in this case, a listview inside a layout that sits inside a scrollview).
I don't have any links to back this up right now, but it's not possible, and a well-known 'problem'. If you google a bit, or search here on SO, you'll find a number of topics covering this.
The problem arises in most cases when you have a scrolling view inside another scrolling view in the same direction. Consider the following example:
You have Two lists inside of a ScrollView.
Both lists are exactly one screen tall.
How do you scroll down to the second list?
When scrolling, how will your layout know if you are scrolling the list or the container?
This is basically the question that is the cause, and the only official solution is that it is as it should be, and there won't be a fix. Usually it is enough to have either a ListView or a ScrollView, but I have faced cases when you must have a listview in a scrollview (in my case a client wanted an iPhone-like datespinner in a scrolling page).
I solved it by using a FrameLayout, containing a custom ScrollView, and a ListView on top of that. Then in the code for the custom ScrollView, I added a line in the onScroll method that updated the top margin of the ListView, to psuh it upwards or downwards as the user scrolled. Surprisingly it worked.
NOTE: remember that:
The ListView handles its own scroll. If all you need is a scrolling
list, you do not need a ScrollView.
If you need a layout with a list and space for buttons or other
views, consider creating your layout so that the list only covers
enough space for you to fit your other views below/above without
scrolling.
Add following in your linear layout
android:scrollbars="vertical"
android:scrollbarAlwaysDrawVerticalTrack="true"
