I want to use IntelliJ to make an Andorid application. Currently, I am trying to set up the project, and am following this tutorial:
https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/2016.3/prerequisites-for-android-development.html
I downloaded the SDK tools-zip, and now the tutorial says to: "use the installer to launch the Android SDK Tools Setup wizard". However, I am not able to find the installer anywhere in the "tools"-folder. Below is a picture of how the "tools"-folder looks like.
Does anyone know where to find the installer?
Thanks!
You will find it in your SDK Root directory.
e.g D:\Android_SDK\SDK Manager.exe.
Launch SDK Manager.exe you will find the SDK Setup page.

I'm trying to setup IntelliJ IDEA to develop android applications and I faced an issue with android sdk. As far as I know, I need to download the sdk separately. But I all I managed to find was Android command line tools which is obviously not something I need. So my question how can I get android sdk for IntelliJ IDEA?
You can install whichever android SDK or API from Intellij. I have the 2018.1 version but I hope this works in earlier versions too. You can find the options to install the SDKs here:
Same problem I have with IDEA 2017.1.1. I installed tools_r25.2.3-windows.zip and managed to install them.
I've done:
unzipped it to C:\Android\android_sdk\
renamed "tools" folder to "tools-sdk"
executed
C:\Android\android_sdk\tools_inst\bin>sdkmanager --update
prepared file my_file with lines:
build-tools;24.0.0
platforms;android-24
tools
emulator
Executed:
C:\Android\android_sdk\tools_inst\bin>sdkmanager --package_file=my_file
Then gave IntelliJ IDEA folder C:\Android\android_sdk as Android SDK Home Folder.
Then IDEA asks to install something additional. The test android project compiles and runs on emulation (AVD Manager works). I had to install 22 Platform and Build Tools though because android-24 virtual device asked for a password.
The only problem is I still have no SDK Manager with GUI interface.
First of all make sure you'be setup JDK properly. If not, you can download it from here.
Now go to Android Developer official site and download Android Studio.
If you are already done with above mentioned points the few point you might be missing.
When asked to choose the JDK (not SDK) you need to choose the Java JDK which you've installed earlier. Should be under C:\Program Files\Java\jdk{version}
Choose a New platform ( if there's not one selected ) , the SDK platform is the android platform at C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk-windows.
Please let me know if it didn't help.

I had the same issue. I tried downloading sdk via android eclipse setup process. Eclipse automatically downloads the sdk. This sdk has a gui sdkmanager and can be used in idea as well. Here is the link to download eclipse.
(Android Studio installed on my computer.)
As i see users missed a point while installing android SDK.
You should show the Android SDK at AppData folder to IntellijIdea.
C:\Users\Your_Username\AppData\Local\Android\SDK_Folder.

You can download the android SDK from this link here. I hope it should be helpful that link.
I'm trying to install LibGDX on my mac. It asks for a reference to the android SDK which I downloaded from here:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/index.html?pkg=tools
But when I link to that directory, I get this error:
What do I do?
It means that you have not the necessary verision and just need to update it. Open SDK manager (it should be in you SDK directory or you should be able to launch it from eclipse/android studio I guess) and you will see:
check it and download - it will resolve the problem (you can also update SDK Tools).
I accidentally deleted some of the plugins inside Extras Folder in Android SDK. Coz it looks broke. Now my problem is I dont know how to recover it. And my android emulator is not working coz it cant select device that the Google provides. Can someone tell me what to do.
Just open the SDK Manager and redownload the missing things.
You can download whatever gets deleted using Android SDK Manager
I'm pretty sure you can patch your install with the packages from the SDK download: [http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html]
Once you have downloaded the package install the sdk and all the required API's. These are the stand-alone Android SDK Tools. The packages provide the basic SDK tools for app development.
I have the same problem. In my case, I have been deleted android support library accidentally. When I want to re-install this package, it not show in list of my extras in Android SDK Manager.
If I run my Android SDK Manager from Eclipse, the missing packages not shown. But when I go to my SDK directory and manually run SDKManager.exe as administrator, It's work.
and the result is :
I just downloaded the Android Studio .dmg for OSX. Per the installation instructions, I've dragged it to the application folder and launched the application.
But the SDK Manager and AVD Manager are greyed out and are impossible to use.
Any ideas on an installation step I may have missed?
For people coming for this same problem for Windows: you won't have an Android SDK anywhere if it is your first time with Android. Also, here the Android Studio doesn't come with a packed SDK Manager, so you need to download one.
So this is what you may do:
Download the SDK Manager and an Android SDK
Download the SDK Manager from: http://developer.android.com/sdk/. Use the link that says "Get the SDK for an existing IDE".
Execute the downloaded installer.
Execute this program with administrator rights: SDK Manager.exe
Download the proposed SDK (if you get errors regarding the SDK Manager couldn't create some folders, remember it should be executed as administrator).
Configure Android Studio to work with the new SDK
Open Android Studio and in the Quick Start window click "Configure", you will see the SDK Manager greyed out.
Go to "Project Defaults", then to "Project Structure" and there it will ask for the path where you installed the SDK.
If you click OK and go back you will see the SDK Manager is no longer greyed out, and now you can start creating projects.
A project needs to have been loaded at least once for the link to become available.
Found it in :
File / Project Structure...
Then in "Android SDK" provide the path to the SDK folder inside the Android Studio Application Bundle.
Then Make a new project.
Then after the initial setup the elements where finally enabled.
Android Studio Beta v0.8.14 with the Android SDK for Mac does not appear to include the SDK: you need to install the SDK manually (e.g. https://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/index.html?pkg=tools) and then configure Android Studio to find and use it.
(I ended up using the ADT bundle, since I couldn't seem to find the SDK as a standalone download.)
You need to use the buttons on the welcome dialog, and not on the applications menu bar or preferences (as I had initially thought). Step by step:
(Note that "SDK Manager" is greyed out until you complete this, at which point you cannot undo it for the purposes of taking screenshots...)
Navigate back and the "SDK Manager" button on the "Configure" panel should be enabled. Clicking it should display something like this:
I had a similar problem and the cause was that I've used path with a space in it. There was a warning in the window that can cause problems with NDK, but in fact it caused problems with Android Studio internal SDK as well. After changing the path it works fine.
Go to configure -> project defaults -> project structure
give the path for the SDK and press OK.
It should work now
For Mac Users (Android Studio Beta v0.8.14)
The SDK or SDK manager is not included with this version of Android Studio, and the documentation is obfuscated regarding this change at this point.
Download the standalone SDK from here. You may select the latest revision of the same from this link below the title GET THE SDK FOR AN EXISTING IDE.
Extract the downloaded zip, and rename the folder as sdk
Copy the sdk folder into the Android Studio.app/Contents directory
Restart Android Studio and you will be shown this dialog when the Android Studio starts up
To remove grey out area,
you need to follow this steps as below:
Go to File
Click on Project Structure
Go to SDK Location
Click on Browse to find SDK path
Select proper SDK path on your system
Now click on SDK manager icon on Android Studio toolbar
I hope this solves the problem of grey out area.
Thanks,
This will no longer be a problem when version 1.0 is released. In the meanwhile you can download the latest canary build (1.0 RC2), which downloads the SDK during the setup.
For me, the issue was on windows and it was as simple as launching the installer with "administrative" mode. That's it!
I am a .NET developer and I wanted to work on mobile development though Java. For this I have download eclipse, SDK, Android SDK, ADT plugin and Phone Gap as mentioned in this URL.
http://www.phonegap.com/start/#android
For me everything went successful. But when I am trying to create new project I am getting below Screen:
My Questions:
Why I am not getting any build target? Am I missing something?
What is Package Name ?
What is create Activity?
I apologize if you find my questions very small or useless but as a beginner these are very important for me
Edit1
Android SDK Installation
Edit2
When doing Window > Android SDk and AVD Manager
You need to install the Android SDK and install an Android platform package. See this guide to installing the SDK: http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html
If you have already installed the SDK then you need to follow step 4 from that guide to install a platform.
From within Eclipse, select Window > Android SDK and AVD Manager.
Choose a platform - ie 2.2, 2.3 etc:
Re: Edit #2 above, go to Eclipse Window->Preferences and configure your Android SDK to point to your SDK folder, looks like d:\program files\android\android-sdk\ from your screenshot
Package name is your starting folder structure to create.
Create Activity creates an initial activity class for you within your package
