I get this message under the Optimization tips in the console:
the problem is that my app already contains the translations for FR and RU under values-fr and values-ru and the store listings are also translated.
Another thing is that it also displays this:
but I don't have the app translated into Turkish :)
What is going on?!?!
The problem is that if you are using any third-party library that is translated into Turkish, Google Play will think that your APK is translated into Turkish because the final APK contains Turkish strings. Google Play has no way to know that these strings come from a library and not your app.
There isn't much you can do about that, besides ignoring these messages.

I am migrating my app to use Android App Bundle publishing format.
I'm using Internal app sharing to test this change.
While installing the app for the first time I can see that the app is installed with all the languages I have added to the System languages menu.
incase I add a new System language that wasn't added before the installation of the app, how do I make Android download the new language strings?
As you can see here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0raqVydJmNE&t=789s
It should get downloaded automatically.
But after i add a new language and go into my app the Locale is changed to the new language but my resources are still the language from before the switch.
I know I can use Core API to download languages in the code but I want the app to startup with the correct language not change language in the middle of the user's usage.
Is there anything I'm missing? do in seed to configure something else in gradle?
Thanks in advance.
It can take a little while (usually around 24 hours) for the Play Store to catch up with the language change. If you're okay with that delay, then you don't need to do anything.
Otherwise you can use the code provided in the official sample to guide you in your own implementation.
I have an android app that is not localized. All my strings are in strings.xml file.
After submitting to the store, I am getting a warning that my apk contains Australian English and I should provide images and the like for it.
I am using Android Studio 3.3.1 on Windows 10, and the OS language is English US. I don't know where is Australian English coming from, I am not even in Australia!
Where can I change this?
Click on Default (en-us)
which have list as per your string file added
for more you need to add string file
/values-es
/value-gu
it means you have options
1 for gu
2 for es
Got a response from Google Store support.
Apparently, the wording of their warning is a bit misleading.
They actually wanted to suggest I translate into Australian English, because I have users there.
So, if you get this it's safe to ignore...
By system apps, I'm referring to things like settings.apk, framework-res.apk etc.
As of now, most of my issues are coming from "duplicate" strings such as
<string name="photoPickerNotFoundText" product="tablet" msgid="6247290728908599701">"У пристрої немає доступних зображень."</string>
<string name="photoPickerNotFoundText" product="default" msgid="431331662154342581">"У телефоні немає доступних зображень."</string>
There are two strings with the same name, but for a different product, which causes an error when building gradle. Is there any way to fix that?
I remember reading somewhere about a similar question for building settings.apk, but I can't seem to find it anymore. As a final note, I was just wondering if it was possible to build these apps on a pc, rather than on a linux system with linaro.
Thanks!
You need to change the PackageName.NO other way.
I'm working to localize my app for a number of language. Spanish is working great but Hebrew isn't showing up.
What confuses me is if I put the contents of my Hebrew strings folder in the Spanish folder(values-es) it works great. Spanish in my Hebrew folder(values-he) does not work though...
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Hebrew is locale like 'iw', and also 'he'.
As the #klausw mentioned in his answer:
you better store duplicate copies in both values-iw/ and values-he/
just to make sure it works in all devices.
rogcg is right for most Android devices, but apparently the Samsung Galaxy S2 incompatibly uses locale "he" for Hebrew and ignores values-iw/. If you want to be compatible with those devices too, you need to store duplicate copies in both values-iw/ and values-he/. See also https://stackoverflow.com/a/8573059/405214.
Bear in mind that as of Summer 2021 bundle (.aab) file is required instead of the .apk file. This change brings optimization to many things but some language related problems as well: if your device does not support a specific language, it will not be downloaded from the Play Store.

I have a file with data that contain values in english and russian.
But when I try to print russian data in logcat, its not shown in the way its there in the file. Its coming as some special characters. What may be the reason?
For the above question, below answer worked....
Added new thing to the question:
I have search functionality in my app. So when I search this russian data, its not showing any results..if the data is english, it works perfectly...What could be the reason?
As I experienced, old ADT's Logcat doesn't support languages other than English. Update you ADT plugin (hope you are using Eclipse). I was also facing the same problem with Japanese, but as I've the new ADT now, its fine. You can update the ADT from Eclipse's Help menu >> Check for Updates.
I got solution for the second part too.. The problem was that word stored in db is actually russian only. Though it was seeming like english letters, in real case, it was in russian. I installed Russian Keyboard (GameWarrior) from market. Using that keyboard, I typed the search string. Then it worked perfectly fine. Thanks for the support #Mudassir.
