testCompile 'junit:junit:4.12'
}
please where did i go wrong?
a screenshot;please what can i do? the click on install wouldn't work
replace it with compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services:10.2.0'
and add apply plugin: 'com.google.gms.google-services' on the bottom of your gradle,
and make sure you added classpath 'com.google.gms:google-services:3.0.0'
in the Top-level build.gradle file
There might one of these problems can cause this issue, try any one of them.
Solution 1:
Try to updated the gradle plugin.
dependencies {
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:1.5.0'
}
Then just Build->Clean project and everything works again.
Solution 2:
Go to the main module in your project, it's usually have the name app.
Then go to > Open Module Settings > in Properties change the Build Tools Version to 25.0.1
Then to make sure open the build.gradle file, and change compileSDKVersion & buildToolsVersion to 25 and 25.0.1 respectively.
If the above solution doesnt work.
Solution 3:
From this answer
"build cache" is enabled by default in build Android Plugin since 2.3.0. It creates files in build cache outside of project folder (e.g. in \Users\%username%.android\build-cache). Theese files are intended to be common between your projects.
And then Android Studio is unable to navigate in theese files.
You can disable Build Cache in gradle.properties file. just add android.enableBuildCache=false

I am experiencing a problem building my application in Android Studio. I am using Android Studio 2.2 Preview 7. When I start up my Android Studio it gives an error:
The plugin is too old, please update to a more recent version, or set
ANDROID_DAILY_OVERRIDE environment variable to xxxxxxx.
It requests I fix plugin version and sync project. I have made all the required updates but the error remains. I have read similar questions on the issue but they don't seem to apply to my case.
Could you please assist in providing me with a working solution?
Here is my build.gradle file:
apply plugin: 'com.android.application'
android {
compileSdkVersion 23
buildToolsVersion "23.0.3"
defaultConfig {
applicationId "com.mobileappdev.novarttech.sunshine"
minSdkVersion 10
targetSdkVersion 23
versionCode 1
versionName "1.0"
testInstrumentationRunner "android.support.test.runner.AndroidJUnitRunner"
}
buildTypes {
release {
minifyEnabled false
proguardFiles getDefaultProguardFile('proguard-android.txt'), 'proguard-rules.pro'
}
}
}
dependencies {
compile fileTree(dir: 'libs', include: ['*.jar'])
androidTestCompile('com.android.support.test.espresso:espresso-core:2.2.2', {
exclude group: 'com.android.support', module: 'support-annotations'
})
compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:23.3.0'
compile 'com.android.support.constraint:constraint-layout:1.0.0-alpha4'
compile 'com.android.support:design:23.3.0'
testCompile 'junit:junit:4.12'
}
As per my observation it seems like you haven't updated Android SDK platform to version 25. First of all download and install android sdk platform and build tools from SDK Manager and use the following lines in your build.gradle(module app)
compileSdkVersion 25
buildToolsVersion "25.0.0"
Also update dependencies according to that. It should work then
As #claudio-redi says, you need to upgrade your build gradle tools.
Use build tools 2.2.2 to your root build.gradle:
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:2.2.2'
And change the gradle distribution to 2.14.1 in gradle/wrapper/gradle-wrapper.properties file with:
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-2.14.1-all.zip
Or if you already have download the gradle distribution and place it in a directory, you can set it in your Android Studio from menu File->Setting->Gradle and set it as the following image:
Please be noted when you want to use API Level 25 you need to make sure that compileSdkVersion, buildToolsVersion, targetSdkVersion, and Support Library using the same API Level 25.
I have setup android studio 2.2 and my sdk contains api 23 as well as api 24.
My build.gradle file is as below :
apply plugin: 'com.android.application'
android {
compileSdkVersion 24
buildToolsVersion "24.0.2"
defaultConfig {
applicationId "com.example.sanjay.myapplication"
minSdkVersion 15
targetSdkVersion 24
versionCode 1
versionName "1.0"
testInstrumentationRunner "android.support.test.runner.AndroidJUnitRunner"
}
buildTypes {
release {
minifyEnabled false
proguardFiles getDefaultProguardFile('proguard-android.txt'), 'proguard-rules.pro'
}
}
}
dependencies {
compile fileTree(dir: 'libs', include: ['*.jar'])
compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:24.2.1'
compile 'com.android.support.constraint:constraint-layout:1.0.0-alpha1'
testCompile 'junit:junit:4.12'
androidTestCompile 'com.android.support.test.espresso:espresso-core:2.2.2'
androidTestCompile 'com.android.support.test:runner:0.5'
androidTestCompile 'com.android.support:support-annotations:24.2.1'
}
I have getting below error :
Error:(1, 0) Plugin is too old, please update to a more recent version, or set ANDROID_DAILY_OVERRIDE environment variable to "9d813ee66dd60f65615706c5deaa14afed669ca5"

Please let me know, Whats going wrong here, Thank you.
When such error is shown (Plugin is too old, please update to a more recent version, Fix plugin version, and sync project), click on the Fix plugin version and sync project which appeared in the log cat. the Gradle will sync and you are good to go.
Update your Project level Build.gradle to
dependencies {
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:2.2.0'
}
Download the latest gradle from https://gradle.org/gradle-download/ and
Goto: Build, Execution, Deployment ->> Build Tools ->> Gradle (Or just type in the searchbar Gradle)
Select: (X) Use local gradle distribution and set Gradle home to your extracted Gradle directory. Click on apply.
Update your Project Build.gradle to
dependencies
{
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle: "latest version here" '
}

Verdant newbie here. I'm making a fairly simple project that needs to be compatible with Android versions older than Lollipop, but still want to have the app look nicer by using AppCompat.
Unfortunately, I do not know how to work (or even find) the gradle - I tried to run a gradle task: compile "com.android.support:appcompat-v7:21.0.+"
But it returned an error saying that "Task 'compile' is ambiguous...." in my project.
Could anyone tell me how to add this? I've searched all over Google, but everything goes way over my head.
Thanks!
Have you been able to locate Gradle file?
Edit your gradle like this :
apply plugin: 'com.android.application'
android {
compileSdkVersion 23
buildToolsVersion "23.0.3"
defaultConfig {
applicationId "com.xyz.xyz"
minSdkVersion 15
targetSdkVersion 23
versionCode 1
versionName "1.00.00"
}
buildTypes {
release {
minifyEnabled false
proguardFiles getDefaultProguardFile('proguard-android.txt'), 'proguard-rules.pro'
}
}
}
dependencies {
compile fileTree(dir: 'libs', include: ['*.jar'])
testCompile 'junit:junit:4.12'
compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:23.3.0'
compile 'com.android.support:support-v4:23.3.0'
}
Update your question and post full Gradle code.
Add the appcomapt library(com.android.support:appcompat-v7:21.0.+") in dependancy section of the build.gradle file
Or second way to add library is by searching on maven repo.this can be done by traversing file->project structure->app>dependancy->click (+) ->add Library dependancy
Task 'compile' is ambiguous.
This issue is not the Compile Issue. but this was an issue on the task itself.
if you are not using a command like "gradle compileDebug" then one of the android configurations are executing the task and it is not working well with your build.gradle.
Here is a link that seems to relate specifically to your issue. Click Here
After update with the latest Android support library 23.1 i get this error
Failed to resolve: com.android.support:support-v4:23.0.0
I tried all combination of 23.+ and 23.1.0 and 23.1.+ etc. How to make it run properly?
apply plugin: 'com.android.application'

The support libraries are now available through Google's Maven repository.
Step 1: Open the build.gradle file of your project.
Step 2: Make sure that the repositories section includes a maven section with the "https://maven.google.com" url in it.
allprojects {
repositories {
jcenter()
maven { url 'https://maven.google.com' }
}
}
I ran into the same problem today. Although the SDK Manager marked a few libraries as installed, investigating the location of the files showed me the correct folder structure, without any files in them.
For example, checking out the location of 23.1.0 appcompat-v7 on my Mac:
.../sdk/extras/android/m2repository/com/android/support/appcompat-v7
turned out to be an empty folder.
I suspect the update I ran minutes before went wrong somehow.
What solved it for me:
in Android Studio, open Appearance and Behaviour -> System Settings -> SDK Manager
under tab "SDK Tools" un-check the libraries causing problems
click "apply" to uninstall them
re-check the same libraries
click "apply" to reinstall them
close SDK Manager and run Gradle sync / build
Had to add "Android Support Repository" from SDK Manager.
As you already have v7 dependency added in your gradle file no need to add dependency for v4 because it is already included in v7 library.
gradle file should looks like this
apply plugin: 'com.android.application'
android {
compileSdkVersion 23
buildToolsVersion "23.0.1"
defaultConfig {
applicationId "ua.guru.lvivflatfinder"
minSdkVersion 14
targetSdkVersion 23
versionCode 1
versionName "1.0"
multiDexEnabled true
}
buildTypes {
release {
minifyEnabled false
proguardFiles getDefaultProguardFile('proguard-android.txt'), 'proguard-rules.pro'
}
}
}
dependencies {
compile fileTree(dir: 'libs', include: ['*.jar'])
compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:23.1.0'
compile 'com.android.support:recyclerview-v7:23.1.0'
compile 'com.android.support:cardview-v7:23.1.0'
compile 'com.google.android.gms:play-services:8.1.0'
}
.......
(build.gradle (MOdule.app)
implementation 'com.android.support:cardview-v7:28.0.0-rc01'
In my case, opening SDK manager and installing Local Maven Repository for Support Libraries fixed my issue.
Go to File -> Project Structure then select Dependencies tab and remove com.android.support:support-v4:23.0.0
It worked for me
Gradle sync / build
implementation 'com.android.support:cardview-v7:28.0.0-rc01'
ready and go!
I got a similar problem, was trying to change versions and so on. Did not work for me. Only after I changed the version and restarted Studio it started to work. Probably gradle doesn't sync that normaly while you don't restart Studio.
I got this error when I tried to build the app while being OFFLINE. After connecting to the internet it worked :-)

I'm trying to set up Double Espresso, but that's probably not relevant here. What I'm trying to do is to set up a project in Android Studio using Gradle.
I'm very new to Gradle and build tools in general, though I've successfully used Maven before. Despite an hour of searching I can't find an answer to a very simple question.
In Jake Wharton's instructions it says
No more fumbling with local jars or dependency conflicts. Pull it in with one line:
androidTestCompile 'com.jakewharton.espresso:espresso:1.1-r3'
Pull in where? Where do I put/execute that command to import the project? In the command prompt? Do I put it in one of the scripts?
Thanks for any help.
You have a build.gradle file inside your app folder. In that file you can configure your project, "dependencies" and other options. It's very similar to maven. You have another build.gradle file in your root folder from your project. This conf file is more general and call the other build.gradle file.
e.g I have in one of my projects
apply plugin: 'com.android.application'
android {
compileSdkVersion 20
buildToolsVersion "20.0.0"
defaultConfig {
applicationId "com.acostela.example"
minSdkVersion 17
targetSdkVersion 20
versionCode 1
versionName "1.0"
}
buildTypes {
release {
runProguard false
proguardFiles getDefaultProguardFile('proguard-android.txt'), 'proguard-rules.pro'
}
}
}
dependencies {
compile fileTree(include: ['*.jar'], dir: 'libs')
compile 'com.android.support:appcompat-v7:20.+'
compile "com.android.support:gridlayout-v7:18.0.+"
compile 'com.j256.ormlite:ormlite-core:4.48'
compile 'com.j256.ormlite:ormlite-android:4.48'
compile 'commons-net:commons-net:3.3'
compile 'net.sf.opencsv:opencsv:2.3'
}
Dependencies here are similar to maven and the use in that tool of "/".
Gradle take libs from repositories in the same way of maven. In fact you can use the maven repository. You have a tab with the gradle sentence to download libraries.
http://mvnrepository.com/artifact/com.squareup.assertj/assertj-android/1.0.0
