I want the user to be able to rank a list of fruits in the order that they like to most.
Say for example, consider the list as "Mango, Apple, Banana, Pineapple".
If they like Apple, Mango, Pineapple, Banana in this order I want to use checkboxes that show the rank when the user clicks on them.
Is this possible?
Thanks
Why don't you try with a counter. It start's at 0, when user press a checkbox you just add 1 to it and you have an array for each checkbox where you will save the number pressed.
You have final int[] fruits = new int[4]; and final int counter = 0;
public void onCheckboxClicked(View view) {
// Is the view now checked?
boolean checked = ((CheckBox) view).isChecked();
// Check which checkbox was clicked
switch(view.getId()) {
case R.id.checkbox_mango:
if (checked) {
counter++;
fruits[0] = counter;
} else {
counter--;
fruits[0] = 0;
}
break;
case R.id.checkbox_apple:
if (checked) {
counter++;
fruits[1] = counter;
} else {
counter--;
fruits[1] = 0;
}
break;
//OTHER CASES
}
}
Yes this is possible with Checkboxes, take a look here:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3149414/how-to-receive-a-event-on-android-checkbox-check-change
If I understood you right, you just have to set a variable when the user clicks on one of those checkboxes like:
var number1 = 'Mango'
You should achive this with the example you can find in the link above.

edit.
I'm trying to make a game where there is 4 buttons each button has a set value.
buttone is 1 buttontwo is 2 and so on.
and on each click of the button it takes the value from what ever button is pressed and add it to an array, the number of buttons that you have to press is set by the intent from the main activity and the buttons that have to be press is set by the randomNums array.
eg.
if the randomNums give you 1,2,1,1,2.3,3,4.
green button must be pressed 3 times
blue button must be pressed 2 times
yellow button must be pressed once.
buttonOne must be pressed 3 times.
buttonTwo must be pressed 2 times.
buttonThree must be pressed 2 times.
buttonFour must be pressed once times.
I have the randomNums which gives you the up to 12 number from 1-4.
I have the buttons set up so that if the randomNums gives you 1,1,1,2,3,3.
ButtonOne will be green buttonTwo will be yellow and buttonThree will be blue
for 3 seconds then all the buttons turn grey.
but where I'm having trouble is how do u set a button to have a set value.
eg.
if I press buttonOne 3 times it will enter into an array like so 1,1,1.
so the question is how do set a fixed value to a button so that every time it is press it send a fix value to an array.
sry if I was not clear the 1st times around if u have any more question or if you need me to explain it again or want to see the code that I have to set the color of the button play let me know . thanks
hi I'm very new to android studio,
I have 4 buttons and I want each to have a fixed value.
ButtonOne =1;
ButtonTwo =2;
ButtonThree =3;
ButtonFour =4;
and when a button is pressed I want to add that fixed button value to an array.
what I have is sending an ++ number back and not sending a fixed value.
so my question is how do you send a multiple fixed int from four buttons OnClickListener to an array?
public int counterOne = 0;
final Button buttons[] = {
(Button) findViewById(R.id.ButtonOne),
(Button) findViewById(R.id.ButtonTwo),
(Button) findViewById(R.id.ButtonThree),
(Button) findViewById(R.id.ButtonFour)
};
buttons[0].setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
counterOne = counterOne+1;
CheckSET.setText(""+counterOne);
}
});
final int pressed[] =new int [12];
end.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
String stringlevel = ""+CheckSET.getText();
String b = "";
final int intLevel = Integer.parseInt(stringlevel);
for (int i = 0; i < 12;i++){
//b = ""+ b +""+ pressed[i];
//pressed[i] = pressed[i]+1;
//if(intLevel==1){
// pressed[i] = pressed[i]+1;
//}else if (intLevel ==2){
// pressed[i] = pressed[i]+2;
//}
pressed[0] = counterOne;
b = ""+ b +""+ pressed[i];
diff.setText(b);
}
}
});
the end button is to add all the button clicks to the array.
but if there is a better way then doing an end button to run the button array that would be great. could you do a for() and have all the buttons inside the for and each time they are pressed it adds it to the array?
I have a random array set up all ready that picks 12 numbers from 1-4 and does not let any number repeat more then 3 times.
private int[] pickNums() {
Random rand = new Random();
int randomNums[] = new int[12];
int one = 0;
int two = 0;
int three = 0;
int four = 0;
for (int i = 0; i < 12; i++) {
randomNums[i] = rand.nextInt(4)+1;
if (randomNums[i] == 1) {
one = one + 1;
if (one>3){
i=i-1;
}
} else if (randomNums[i] == 2) {
two = two + 1;
if (two>3){
i=i-1;
}
} else if (randomNums[i] == 3) {
three = three + 1;
if (three>3){
i=i-1;
}
} else if (randomNums[i] == 4) {
four = four + 1;
if (four>3){
i=i-1;
}
}
}
return randomNums;
}
my plan is to do a bubble sort on the randomNums and on the buttonPress array to see if the buttons that are pressed all ==.
but I'm having a lot of trouble with the buttonpress array
I am not sure what you asking but may be this will help you
(Instead of Array you should use list)
private List<Integer> pressedNums = new ArrayList<>();
Button button1,button2,button3,button4;
button1.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
pressedNums.add(1)
}
});
similarly for button2,3,4 add 2,3,4
at last you can use loop
int total = 0;
for(Integer i : pressedNums){
total += i;
}
textField.setText(Integer.toString(total));
I want to highlight right and wrong option when user clicks a button after checking an radio button. If that option is right, highlight. Else highlight right option.
Is there any way to get radio button id in a group based on its value? Or Do I need to use switch case?
I searched enough but not able to find out what I need.
Edit
I have simple layout which contains one question, 4 choices, one button. User check a radio button and click the check button. If user selects wrong option, highlight the correct option. I know what is correct option by value.
choice1, choice2, choice3, choice4 are four radio buttons. User checks choice3. But choice2 is correct. How do I select choice2 by value in this radio group.
group.getRadioButtonId("choice2")
Anything similar to this?
You could iterate through the children of your RadioGroup to get the required one:
int count = radioGroup.getChildCount();
for (int i = 0 ; i < count; i++) {
RadioButton button = (RadioButton) radioGroup.getChildAt(i);
if (button.getText().equals("choice2")) {
int id = button.getId(); // the ID you're looking for
}
}
You Can check like this
#Override
public void onCheckedChanged(RadioGroup group, int checkedId) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
int rbId = group.getCheckedRadioButtonId();
RadioButton rb = (RadioButton) findViewById(rbId);
switch (group.getId()) {
case R.id.radiogroupID:
if (rb.getText().toString().equalsIgnoreCase("right")) {
// your logic
} else {
//your logic
}
}
}
you can use these line. its working for me
int checkedId = radioGroup.getCheckedRadioButtonId();
View radioButton = radioGroup.findViewById(checkedId);
int radioId = radioGroup.indexOfChild(radioButton);
RadioButton btn = (RadioButton) radioGroup.getChildAt(radioId);
First check which option is true. hear choice 2 OK. set by default is checked true and than check user checked value . if user select other option than display message and pass true option we already checked true
Create an int array with all the ids of the radiobutton
int[] rb_IDs=new int[]{R.id.rb1,R.id.rb2,R.id.rb3};
Then inside your button click :
RadioGroup rg=(RadioGroup) findViewById(R.id.rg);
rg.setOnCheckedChangeListener(new RadioGroup.OnCheckedChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onCheckedChanged(RadioGroup group, int checkedId) {
for (int i=0;i<rb_IDs.length;i++)
{
RadioButton rb=(RadioButton)findViewById(rb_IDs[i]);
if (rb.getText().toString().equals("YOUR CORRECT ANSWER")&&!rb.isChecked())
{
//
//Do your thing
//
//ID of the correct answer Radiobutton is
int id=rb_IDs[i];
//HighLighting the answer
rb.setBackgroundColor(Color.parseColor("#00ff00"));
break;
}
}
}
});
I have a CheckBox written programmatically in android, it is programmatically written because the value of the CheckBox will be based on online content, so basically, the program has no idea on how many CheckBox will going to print. I use for loops to print checkboxes, and it was successful, but among those checkboxes, I want to get the value of the CheckBox that will going to be selected.
How can I do that?
String ans = _jsonObject.optString("choices").toString();
String[] ansar = ans.split("`");
cb = new CheckBox[ansar.length];
for (int z = 0; z<ansar.length; z++){
CheckBox cb = new CheckBox(survey);
cb.setText(ansar[z]);
choiceslayouts.addView(cb);
}
You need to create a boolean array for saving the state of all checkbox
Then add setOnCheckedChangeListener for each CheckBox
String ans = _jsonObject.optString("choices").toString();
String[] ansar = ans.split("`");
boolean[] array = new boolean[ansar.length];
for (int z = 0; z<ansar.length; z++){
...
cb.setOnCheckedChangeListener(new CompoundButton.OnCheckedChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onCheckedChanged(CompoundButton buttonView,boolean isChecked) {
array[z] = isCheck;
}
});
}
OR
You can set the tag for each CheckBox to check the state of CheckBox
1.Implement onClickListener for your Activity
public YourActivity extends Activity implements View.OnClickListener
2.Then set the tag for each CheckBox
for (int z = 0; z<ansar.length; z++){
...
cb.setTag("tag"+z);
cb.setOnClickListener(this);
}
3.Finnaly, implement onClick
public void onClick(View v) {
switch (v.getTag()) {
case "tag0":
if(((CheckBox) v).isChecked()) {
// your checkbox 0 is checked
}else{
// your checkbox 0 is not checked
}
break;
case "tag1":
// do the same
break;
...
}
}
Hope this help
I think you should use a ListView or a RecyclerView with custom layout and custom adapter, in order to optimize performance. Anyway it should be possible to achieve what you're look for without a major change to your code.
Your problem is that in the for loop you recreate a new checkbox with the exact same properties as the previous one, so even if you add it to your parent view, you are basically adding the same checkbox over and over again, and you can't listen to the event in the "single" checkboxes.
You should try something like this:
String ans = _jsonObject.optString("choices").toString();
String[] ansar = ans.split("`");
final boolean[] cbValue = new boolean[ansar.length];
cb = new CheckBox[ansar.length];
for (int z = 0; z<ansar.length; z++){
cb[z] = new CheckBox(survey);
cb[z].setText(ansar[z]);
cb[z].setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
cbValue[z] = !cbValue[z];
}
});
choiceslayouts.addView(cb[z]);
}
cbValue[] should hold the values of your checkboxes.
This is without error-checking, but it should give you the idea.
i have a problem in my application, i have a formulaire whish a user should fill information and save it to database,i have both Edit Text and Radio Button :
rm_1 = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.rm_1);
rm_2 = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.rm_2);
rm_3 = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.rm_3);
rm_13_1 = (RadioButton) findViewById(R.id.rm_13_1);
rm_13_2 = (RadioButton) findViewById(R.id.rm_13_2);
rm_14_1 = (RadioButton) findViewById(R.id.rm_14_1);
rm_14_2 = (RadioButton) findViewById(R.id.rm_14_2);
rm_14_3 = (RadioButton) findViewById(R.id.rm_14_3);
i have a method Onclick whish associate each radio buton selected with a value :
public void onRadioButtonClicked(View view) {
// Is the button now checked?
boolean checked = ((Checkable) view).isChecked();
switch (view.getId()) {
case R.id.rm_13_1:
if (checked)
a = 0;
break;
case R.id.rm_13_2:
if (checked)
a = 1;
break;
case R.id.rm_14_1:
if (checked)
b = 0;
break;
case R.id.rm_14_2:
if (checked)
b = 1;
break;
case R.id.rm_14_3:
if (checked)
b = 2;
break;
case R.id.rm_14_4:
if (checked)
b = 3;
break;
}
until now everything works fine, the user writes in the edit text and select the radio button , and in database i find the same information.
in order to save the data entered by the user i did used shared preferences, so the text writing by the user and radio button selected appear again when the user returns to the activity.
That's when the issue occurs when a user change the activity , so if he returns to the activity he finds the radio button already selected but when he click on save button the value he gets in database is zero, it is like the methode :
public void onRadioButtonClicked(View view)
is not working, i don't know why ?? the user need to click again on radio button to have the values assigned in the method onRadioButtonClicked(View view), so how to solve that ?
this is where i save data :
Button bton = (Button) findViewById(R.id.ajoutUn);
bton.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View v) {
ajouter(v);
}
public void ajouter(View v) {
db.open();
db.insertMENAGE(rm_1ts, rm_2ts, rm_3ts, rm_4ts, rm_5ts,
rm_6ts, rm_7ts, rm_8ts, rm_9ts, rm_10ts, rm_11ts,
a, b, rm_14_4_autrets, rm_15ts);}}
And the method in database is :
public long insertMENAGE(String Region, String Provence_prefecture , String Commune_Arrondissement ,String N_district, String N_M_district , String N_menage_logement, String Adresse_menage , String Nom_Enqueteur, String code_enquêteur , String Date_realisation_enquête, String Nom_controleur , String Date_controle, int echantillon_principal, int Statut_enquêté , String autre, String Observations ) {
ContentValues initialValues = new ContentValues();
initialValues.put(col_Commune_Arrondissement,Commune_Arrondissement);
initialValues.put(col_N_district,N_district);
initialValues.put(col_N_M_district,N_M_district);
initialValues.put(col_N_menage_logement,N_menage_logement);
initialValues.put(col_Adresse_menage,Adresse_menage);
initialValues.put(col_Nom_Enqueteur,Nom_Enqueteur);
initialValues.put(col_code_enquêteur ,code_enquêteur);
initialValues.put(col_Date_realisation_enquête,Date_realisation_enquête);
initialValues.put(col_Nom_controleur,Nom_controleur);
initialValues.put(col_Date_controle,Date_controle);
initialValues.put(col_echantillon_principal,echantillon_principal);
initialValues.put(col_Statut_enquêté,Statut_enquêté);
initialValues.put(col_Observations,Observations);
return db.insertOrThrow(MENAGE,null, initialValues);
}
Check all your radio button values at your onResume() method like following, and assigning values to your variable.
if(rm_13_1.isChecked())
{
}
else if(rm_13_2.isChecked())
{
}
else if(rm_14_1.isChecked())
{
}
else if(rm_14_2.isChecked())
{
}
else if(rm_14_3.isChecked())
{
}
Hope it will work
First of all I'm posting this an answer because the text is too large.
Either there's some meaningful code that we're not seeing, or there's a problem understanding a few things.
The method onRadioButtonClicked(View view) is only called when the user clicks the radioButton. When the user comes back from another Activity the button is already selected. This is correct, and this is how it should behave. As far as I can see, this code only affects variables 'a' and 'b'.
On the other hand you say that you have a separate 'save' button. When the user comes back from another Acivity, variables 'a' and 'b' should preserve their values, and the results of your 'save' code should work.
I know this is not an answer, just a few insights that hopefully help you in some way.
How do I set up a OnClickListener to simply tell me which index button was pressed from an array of buttons. I can change text and color of these buttons using the array. I set them up like this.
TButton[1] = (Button)findViewById(R.id.Button01);
TButton[2] = (Button)findViewById(R.id.Button02);
TButton[3] = (Button)findViewById(R.id.Button03);
up to 36.
The OnClickListener is going to receive the button itself, such as R.id.Button01. It's not going to give you back your array index, as it knows nothing about how you have references to all the buttons stored in an array.
You could just use the button that is passed into your onClickListener directly, with no extra lookups in your array needed. Such as:
void onClick(View v)
{
Button clickedButton = (Button) v;
// do what I need to do when a button is clicked here...
switch (clickedButton.getId())
{
case R.id.Button01:
// do something
break;
case R.id.Button01:
// do something
break;
}
}
If you are really set on finding the array index of the button that was clicked, then you could do something like:
void onClick(View v)
{
int index = 0;
for (int i = 0; i < buttonArray.length; i++)
{
if (buttonArray[i].getId() == v.getId())
{
index = i;
break;
}
}
// index is now the array index of the button that was clicked
}
But that really seems like the most inefficient way of going about this. Perhaps if you gave more information about what you are trying to accomplish in your OnClickListener I could give you more help.
You can set Tag value and get the Tag on Click:
TButton[1] = (Button)findViewById(R.id.Button01);
TButton[1].setTag(1);
onClick(View v)
{
if(((Integer)v.getTag())==1)
{
//do something
}
}
