I updated Android Studio to 2.3.1. Now, when I´m trying to edit a layout through graphic mode, component tree and Palette are not visible anywhere. I have searched too much in Google and I have could not found something that solve the problem. Thanks for your time and attention. Excuse my posible poor english.
Try Restore default layout from window menu, normally you can use the shortcut shift+f12

I was trying to make a navigation drawer on Android Studio but It seems my design display is not working. Nothing is showing. I have no idea what is happening. Hope someone can help me out. Thank you.
Did you run your app on your Emulator or Physical device? Sometimes Android Studio doesn't render your components in Layout Editor.
Check this answer, it may help you.
Good day to everyone! This is my first question :)
I am a beginner to Android Studio and I'm trying to write some code for an app. Surfing the web I've found videos showing interesting features about spinner and expandableListView that I'd like to use in my application. The problem is I can't find these items no matter what.
I have an android studio 3.5.3 version and the videos I saw showed versions 1.some.some and 2.some.some. Can anyone help me out with this, please?
Here an image about the palette I have in the android studio.
If you want to use lists in general you should use RecyclerView instead. You can still find now and then applications that use Spinners (they are under containers not widgets). – DemoDemo
I apologize in advance if it is a duplicate topic, but I did not find a direct answer in any other.
Android Studio does not display marks (on the scroll bar) by referencing error/warning/occurences in the code. Is there any way to make it show?
I have not used Android Studio for a long time and I get lost because in Eclipse this is a basic functionality. So in files with many lines of code it becomes complicated to see the locations of the code where there are errors or occurrences.
In Android Studio it looks like this:
In Eclipse like this:
Is it possible to make Android Studio behave similarly to Eclipse? If not, is there any friendlier way to see the error/warnings/occurrences marks?
Thanks for any help.

I can't switch to design editing in android studios when i want to edit the xml file of the layout file. There are no button for changing to text or design on the bottom of the codes. Screenshot of android studios
Can someone help me fix the problem?
I had the same issue. Where the 'design/text' tabs were missing.
I had switched to the dark theme and thought maybe that was the issue, so went back to Preferences / Appearance (under IDE Settings) switched back to Default Theme, and that reset everything correctly for me.
I could also then switch again to Dracula theme and the tabs were still there, so seems like switching themes is a way to reset the IDE windows/tabs.
Try to restart the IDE .It may be helpful to show the design /Text tab..
Follow these steps:
View -> Tool Windows -> Preview
Same question was answered here: Where is Android Studio layout preview?
If it didn't help, try methods mentioned here: Android Studio "design tab" missing
From your screenshot, change the code tree from Package to Android as bellow link may help.
See screenshot here...
Hope this will solve your problem :)
As of today in July 2022, here are the actions I have taken:
Look for the device manager icon
Choose your option to add a device (virtual or physical)
In case of a virtual device select the screen size and download it. In the case of a physical device, you have to pair it whether by wifi or QR code scan.
I am very new to android apps, I do mostly VS2013, and I was just trying to do a hello world or anything basic. Why is there a tiny "hello world" on my design for my .xml file, but the button I added shows on the AVD? I'm really confused.
EDIT: To clarify, this is a brand new project. My question specifically is how can I make sure I can see on the design/text tabs what is going to be on my emulator? All I have done is drag/drop from the Palette onto the screen, and see nothing. What should I be doing instead?
The design device is the same as my AVD.
All: The solution was an issue with the rending, and is apparently a bug with the newest version of the Studio. This link I found had the information and solutions to help me with it:
