Outdated Kotlin Runtime warning in Android Studio - android

After downloaded and installed latest Kotlin plugin I have Outdated Kotlin Runtime warning from Android Studio that telling me:
Your version of Kotlin runtime in 'kotlin-stdlib-1.1.2' library is
1.1.2, while plugin version is 1.1.2-release-Studio2.3-3. Runtime library should be updated to avoid compatibility problems.
I tried to click Update Runtime button but getting another message:
Automatic library version update for Gradle projects is currently
unsupported. Please update your build.gradle manually.
How to solve this issue?


In your (Project: [projectName]) build.gradle file find this:
ext.kotlin_version = 'x.x.x' and replace x.x.x with the current version of your Kotlin plugin.
In order to check which is the current version of your Kotlin plugin:
Go to: Tools -> Kotlin -> Confugure Kotlin Plugin Updates
Click "Check again". After a second you will see the version of your Kotlin plugin. (If not up to date, your Kotlin plugin will be updated.)
N.B.: Also check your (Module: app) build.gradle file and assure that you do not use:
compile "org.jetbrains.kotlin:kotlin-stdlib-jre7:1.2.21"
but
compile 'org.jetbrains.kotlin:kotlin-stdlib-jdk7:1.2.40'
Note the difference "...jre7..." -> "...jdk7...". Also replace "1.2.40" with your current Kotlin plugin version.


You can update your Kotlin version in your project level build.gradle file. If you have it configured the usual way, you should have the following line in it around the top:
ext.kotlin_version = '1.1.2'
To upgrade to the version matching your plugin, simply change this line to:
ext.kotlin_version = '1.1.2-3'

The error tells you that you need to upgrade your version, the question is where to find out that you have to put in 1.1.2-3 instead of saying, for example, 1.1.2-release-Studio2.3-3.
The best way to find out the latest version of Kotlin is by going to kotlinlang.org and looking for "Latest version". Should be right there on the front page.
Another thing to do if the version number is non-trivial like this is to check the repositories where the versions are hosted. In the case of Android, you'll probably be getting it from jcenter, for which you can find the repository page, which has all the available versions listed.
You can also browse the raw maven repository of jcenter where the files are actually hosted by going here, or look up Kotlin either on mvnrepository or on mavencentral (raw version of the latter here).


it complained (on Android Studio 3.0.1) ...most likely because of referenced libraries' dependencies:

There are two pieces you may want to update:
kotlin runtime for the project
kotlin plugin
The answer by Ivo Stoyanov shows how to do this using the android studio menus. When I got the error message and tried this (updating the kotlin plugin) alone, it still complained about the kotlin runtime. You can update that on a project by project basis, by adding the line on ext.kotlin_version to the project build gradle, as some of the other answers indicate. But you'll need to know the kotlin runtime version for that. Alternatively, you can also do it through the menus, as I show here below, with the bonus that android studio shows you the available versions, and you can pick the most recent.
And then android studio will add in the appropriate line in your project build gradle.


changing your ext.kotlin_version from '1.1.2-4'to ext.kotlin_version = '1.1.2-5' solved the problem for me

This issue comes when you update the kotlin plugin version popped up from android studio, but issue is current version of Android studio is not able to dynamically change the kotlin gradle plugin which is located in your project level Build.gradle file.

Bit annoying but studio acts like it some times. Below steps can fix the issue.
Go to
Settings -> Build, Execution, Development -> Gradle -> Use default gradle wrapper(recommended)
change this to Use local and back to Use default. Studio will ask about updating gradle after closing the settings windows.

I had faced this issue on latest Android Studio from Canary channel. You might want to consider downgrading Android Studio to stable version as well.

Flutter app stops on launch when Firebase Analytics is added

I create an app using flutter create --org com.myorganisation --project-name myProjectName myAppName. By default, at the time of writing, it generates a Flutter project with the native parts written in Kotlin and Swift.
Everything is going fine -- I can launch the default app in Android on a real device. Then I start to get Firebase set up in the project. Following the instructions at https://firebase.google.com/docs/flutter/setup, I modify the project level and app level build.gradle, and add the relevant plugins to pub spec.yaml.
With firebase_core installed, the Android app still launches, but as soon as I add firebase_analytics: ^5.0.6, it stops on launch with no information in the Debug console and the Dart Dev Tools unavailable.

Running the project in Android Studio, I find the error message
ERROR: The Android Gradle plugin supports only Kotlin Gradle plugin version 1.3.10 and higher.

Don't confuse gradle with the Android Gradle plugin.

Use the latest stable release:

Check the release notes for other versions.

Cannot add Google Play Location Service as dependency to my Android Project

I tried to add the Google location Service to my Android Project by referencing the official link.
As the tutorial said I added the following line to the dependencies section in the Project Gradle file.

But when i resynced the project i got the following error

I think you have forgot to add maven repository in your app gradle file. Try by doing these steps. Open the build.gradle file for your application. Make sure that the repositories section includes a maven section with the "https://maven.google.com" endpoint. For example: allprojects {repositories {jcenter()maven {url "https://maven.google.com"}}}
Avoid using + in your dependencies as it android studio will try to update dependencies every 24 hours. Also replace compile by implementation for low APK size.

I just needed to change the line

to

I knew it was alpha3 because of the last release note http://tools.android.com/tech-docs/new-build-system.

Apparently, beta releases of the Gradle for Android plugin expire. AFAIK, that is not documented behavior. Right now, the only way that I know of to find out what the latest beta release is would be by monitoring http://tools.android.com/tech-docs/new-build-system. It actually shows a beta3; I had thought that the latest was beta2.

I was also facing the same problem.
I changed the gradle version from

Since Android Studio is updated so from April 22 2016 it is the latest gradle version.

I had this same error, you need to make sure your Gradle version is compatible with your Android Gradle Plugin.
The latest version of Gradle is 2.0 but you need to use 1.12 in order to use the Android Gradle Plugin.

This can happen if you miss adding the Top-level build file.
Just add build.gradle to top level.
It should look like this

In my case, I download the project from GitHub and the Gradle file was missing. So I just create a new project with success build. Then copy-paste the Gradle missing file. And re-build the project is working for me.

I am writing this not as a solution meant for many, but for some people who may commit a simple mistake like specifying the wrong url for importing projects from SVN. It is intended for those guys :)
This happened to me when I imported the project from SVN -> automatic prompt by Studio to open the project -> It asked for Gradle location -> D:\Software\Android\gradle-2.5 -> Then the error.
The same project in a different SVN branch works fine with the Gradle plugin and Gradle which I have configured in Studio. I tried changing Android Gradle plugin and Gradle to get it working on the erring branch without any success.
Finally, I figured out that it was my following mistake:
I tried importing a specific Application alone instead of importing the application along with dependent library projects.
The url which I used for import initially had the Application porject's name at the end. Once I removed it, and specified the parent directory which contained both application project and its dependent project, everything went smooth :)

I found the problem after one hour struggling with this error message:
I accidentally renamed the root build.gradle to filename in builde.gradle, so Android Studio didn't recognize it anymore.
Renaming it to build.gradle resolved the issue!

I still got the error
Could not find com.android.tools.build:gradle:3.0.0.

I was using IntelliJ IDEA 13.1.5 and faced with the same problem after I changed versions of Picasso and Retrofit in dependencies in build.gradle file. I tried use many solutions, but without result.
Then I cloned my project from remote git (where I pushed it before changing versions of dependencies) and it worked! After that I just closed current project and imported old project from Gradle file to IntelliJ IDEA again and it worked too! So, I think it was strange bug in intersection of IDEA, Gradle and Android plugin. I hope this information can be useful for IDEA-users or anyone else.

The other answers didn't work for me, I guess something wrong happens between ButterKnife and 3.0.0 alpha5.
However, I found that when I annotated any one sentence, either BUtterKnife or 3.0.0 alpha5, it works normally.
So, you should just avoid the duplication or conflict.

For future reference: For me, this issue was solely caused by the fact that I wasn't running Android Studio as administrator. I had the shortcut on Windows configured to always run as administrator, but after reinstalling Android Studio, the shortcut was replaced, and so it ran without administrator rights. This caused a lot of opaque errors, including the one in this question.

This issue happened when I accidently renamed the line
apply plugin: 'com.android.application'
on file app/build.gradle to some other name. So, I fixed it by changing it to what it was.

I somehow removed the android tools classpath and was getting the error.

This just happened to me using Android Studio 1.3.2, however, since I had just created the project, I deleted it and created it again.
It seems that it had not been properly created by Android Studio the first time, not even the project folders where as expected.

If you run a the module task with android plugin 1.2.3 in module directory , the problem appears. Try this:
../gradlew -b ../build.gradle -c ../settings.gradle :module:xxx

Make sure your two build.gradle and settings.gradle files are in the correct directories as stated in https://developer.android.com/studio/build/index.html
Then open "as existing project" in Visual Studio
Gradle is very finicky about this.

I got this error message after making the following change in my top-level build.gradle to update to the latest version of gradle:

I foolishly made the change while I was connected behind a hostile workplace proxy. The proxy caused the .jar files for the new version of gradle to become corrupt. This can be verified by inspecting the jars to see if they are an unusual size or whether they can be unzipped.
In order to fix the mistake, I connected to my network at home (which is not behind a proxy) and did a refresh dependencies from the Terminal:
./gradlew --refresh-dependencies
This caused the newer version of gradle to be re-downloaded and the error no longer occurs.

Check the spelling, mine was 'com.android.aplication'

This may also happen when you have both settings.gradle and settings.gradle.kts files are present in project root directory (possibly with the same module included). You should only have one of these files.

In this case of issues check below code
dependencies {
classpath 'com.android.tools.build:gradle:**1.5.0**'
}
and gradle-wrapper.properties inside your project directory check below disctributionUrl:
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-2.9-all.zip
If these are not compatible with each other then you end up in this issue.
For com.android.tools.build:gradle:1.5. you need a version at least 2.8 but if you switch to a higher version like com.android.tools.build:gradle:2.1.0 then you need to update your gradle to 2.9 and above this can be done by changing distributionUrl in gradle-wrapper.properties to 2.9 or higher as below
distributionUrl=https\://services.gradle.org/distributions/gradle-2.10-all.zip

If you work on Windows , you must start Android Studio name by Administrator.
It solved my problem

Just make sure you put the http and https proxy correctly when you create the app
