ProgressBar in same relative layout as MapView: invisible unless MapView is visible - android

So here is the problem.

<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:theme="#style/TransparentBar"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
>
<com.google.android.gms.maps.MapView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/fullscreen_map"
android:visibility="invisible"
/>
<ProgressBar
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerInParent="true"
android:visibility="visible"
android:id="#+id/spinnerprogress"
/>
</RelativeLayout>
This is my layout.
In code, I load bunch of data and when its loaded, I hide ProgressBar (setVisibility(View.GONE)) and show MapView (setVisibility(View.VISIBLE))
Problem being, unless MapView is View.VISIBLE, the ProgressBar is not shown. If I do not hide it, it appears as soon as I set MapView to visible.
Anybody has any suggestion on what is going on?
to answer on setVisibility:
public void onDataUpdate(JSONObject data) {
... work on data....
mv.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE);
//progressBar.setVisibility(View.GONE);
}
basically thats it.
View initialization:
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle b) {
super.onCreate(b);
setContentView(R.layout.fullscreen_map);
//This is workaround to show at least anything to user while data is being loaded.
pd = new ProgressDialog(this);
pd.setProgressStyle(ProgressDialog.STYLE_SPINNER);
//However, loading spinner inside the ProgressDialog is invisible as well unless MapView is showing.
pd.setTitle(R.string.map_is_loading);
pd.show();
pd.setCancelable(false);
progressBar = (ProgressBar) findViewById(R.id.spinnerprogress);
mv = (MapView) findViewById(R.id.fullscreen_map);
mv.getMapAsync(this); //data will be loaded after getMapAsync()
mv.onCreate(b);
buildingLocation = new LatLng(
getIntent().getExtras().getDouble("building_lat"),
getIntent().getExtras().getDouble("building_lng")
);
polyline = getIntent().getExtras().getString("polyline");
name = getIntent().getExtras().getString("building_name");
address = getIntent().getExtras().getString("building_addr");
getSupportActionBar().setTitle(name);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayShowHomeEnabled(true);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
}

Need a progressbar, which blocks other ui elements

I have an application that all screens are fragments and contained by the main container. I need a progressbar, which needs to block the other ui elements when it is visible. But the one below does allow the other ui elements to be clicked. How can I make it block the entire screen?
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/main_container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:clickable="false">
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/loading_animation"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:visibility="gone"
android:background="#color/transparent"
android:layout_gravity="center">
<ProgressBar
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_centerVertical="true"
android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" />
</RelativeLayout>
</FrameLayout>
we have done that like :
mDialog = new ProgressDialog(getActivity(), R.style.MyDialogTheme);
mDialog.setCancelable(false);
mDialog.show();
by using this style :

add this to your relativeLayout (loading_animation):
android:clickable="true"
Create a common class Utility to reuse the code
public class Utility {
public static ProgressDialog getProgressDialog(Context context) {
ProgressDialog progressDialog = new ProgressDialog(context,
R.style.TransparentDialog);
progressDialog.setCancelable(false);
progressDialog
.setProgressStyle(android.R.style.Widget_ProgressBar_Small);
progressDialog.setProgress(0);
return progressDialog;
}
}
Wherever you want progress bar just use this code
protected ProgressDialog dialog;
dialog = Utility.getProgressDialog(mContext);
dialog.setCanceledOnTouchOutside(false);
dialog.setCancelable(false);
if (dialog != null) {
dialog.show();
}
To dismiss dialog
dialog.dismiss();

App name showing on top of Alert Activity popup

Im showing a popup alert activity, when select a notification from tray.
But on top it's showing the App name (MCP), with improper alignment.
I don't want the top part, just a normal dialog.
Manifest:
<activity
android:name=".activity.AlertDialogActivity"
android:configChanges="orientation|locale|screenSize|uiMode|fontScale"
android:excludeFromRecents="true"
android:theme="#style/AlertDialogTheme" />
Style:

I used this:
In AppCompatActivity onCreate() add following codeļ¼š
setTitle("")
and Add The following code in style.xml

Add requestWindowFeature in this way may be work proper.
First Call Super after add it.
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
requestWindowFeature(Window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE);
setContentView(R.layout.add__favourite_layout);
}

Notification Bar is grey after implementing Nav Drawer

I am trying to learn implementations of Navigation Drawer in Android.
In one activity, i have made the Navigation Drawer come under the Status Bar(transparent) and over the App Bar and everything works fine.(left Screenshot)
In another activity in the same App, i am trying to create Navigation Drawer that pulls up under the App Bar. But here, the status bar turns grey for some reason(whether nav drawer is open or closed)(Right Screenshot). Other than this, everything seems fine.
Below is the screenshot:
The green Nav Drawer is a fragment.
What i want to know is how to make the status normal(darker shade of. Please remember, if i click that twin arrow icon in the App Bar, it will take me to another activity which contains another Nav Drawer which works like the one in Material Design(Full height of the screen and comes under a transparent Status Bar). This is shown in the left side of the screenshot.
Below is the code:
MainActivity.java:
public class MainActivity extends ActionBarActivity {
Toolbar toolbar;
DrawerLayout xDrawerLayout;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_alt);
toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.app_bar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayShowHomeEnabled(true);
xDrawerLayout = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
xDrawerLayout.setStatusBarBackgroundColor(getResources().getColor(R.color.primary_dark));
NavDrawerFragment mfragment = (NavDrawerFragment) getFragmentManager().findFragmentById(R.id.nav_drawer_fragment);
mfragment.SetUp(xDrawerLayout, toolbar, R.id.nav_drawer_fragment);

Note: I do not want to compromise on the styles etc that would render my other navigation drawer not working. In other words, i prefer a solution wherein both types of navigation bar works as expected in the same app.
Please let me know if you need any info and i shall edit if required.
Edit: added app_bar.xml & colors.xml for clarity.
But here, the status bar turns grey for some reason
It's the translucent (25% black) status bar background over the white background of activity underneath it.
What i want to know is how to make the status normal
You need to disable translucent status bar for the second activity. It is activated by this line in your theme definition:

true

#color/primary_dark

So either define a child theme and override the flag with false or clear the flag programmatically by calling this from your activity:
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= 21) {
getWindow().clearFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_TRANSLUCENT_STATUS);
getWindow().setStatusBarColor(getResources().getColor(R.color.primary_dark);
}

Fullscreen DialogFragment with translucent StatusBar

I have a DialogFragment which I want to show in fullscreen. I do however still want a StatusBar present, and the hardware buttons at the bottom. I also want to set a background color of the StatusBar (for Lollipop).
My problem is that if I set the following flags in the DialogFragment:
getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_DRAWS_SYSTEM_BAR_BACKGROUNDS);
getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_TRANSLUCENT_STATUS);
Both the StatusBar and Hardware keyboard becomes translucent, and the DialogFragment stretches behind these.
Here is the code, which has been greatly reduced to become readable:
public class CardDetailsDialog extends DialogFragment {
Setup parameters...
public static CardDetailsDialog newInstance(final long cardId, final long projectId){
CardDetailsDialog frag = new CardDetailsDialog();
frag.setStyle(DialogFragment.STYLE_NORMAL, R.style.CardDetailsDialogStyle);
return frag;
}
#Override
public void onActivityCreated(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onActivityCreated(savedInstanceState);
if(getDialog() != null) {
getDialog().getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_DRAWS_SYSTEM_BAR_BACKGROUNDS);
getDialog().getWindow().clearFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_TRANSLUCENT_STATUS);
getDialog().getWindow().getAttributes().windowAnimations = R.style.DialogSlideAnimation;
getDialog().getWindow().setLayout(LinearLayout.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT,
LinearLayout.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT);
getDialog().getWindow().setStatusBarColor(Color.RED);
}
}
#Override
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setHasOptionsMenu(true);
}
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container,
Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreateView(inflater, container, savedInstanceState);
View view = inflater.inflate(R.layout.card_details, container, false);
Handle everything that happens inside the view...
return view;
}
}
Here is the referred theme:

And the style of the fragment:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#color/pp.whiteBackgroundColor" >
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/card_details_toolbar"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
app:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar"
app:popupTheme="#style/PopupMenutheme">
</android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar>
<ScrollView
android:id="#+id/details_scrollview"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent">
All subview elements here...
</ScrollView>
</RelativeLayout>
This is the result:
As you can see, the ToolBar extends over the StatusBar and hardware buttons. I don't know if I am approaching this correctly. Am I missing something?
EDIT
This is what the same view look likes when I remove
getDialog().getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_DRAWS_SYSTEM_BAR_BACKGROUNDS);
For anyone who's still having this problem, do the following. This just solves half of the problem that is posted i.e. black status bar.
Add following theme to res/value-v21/style

And then apply Style on DialogFragment in onCreate
#Override
public void onCreate(#Nullable Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setStyle(DialogFragment.STYLE_NO_TITLE, R.style.DialogTheme);
}
Edit
if you've problem with your dialog theme then use this style e.g. colorAccent or colorControlHighlight etc

In my case SYSTEM_UI_FLAG_LAYOUT_STABLE solved problem with overlapping
int width = ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT;
int height = ViewGroup.LayoutParams.MATCH_PARENT;
dialog.getWindow().setLayout(width,height);
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.LOLLIPOP) {
dialog.getWindow().addFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_DRAWS_SYSTEM_BAR_BACKGROUNDS);
dialog.getWindow().setStatusBarColor(getResources().getColor(R.color.darkGrayTransp));
dialog.getWindow().getDecorView().setSystemUiVisibility(SYSTEM_UI_FLAG_LAYOUT_STABLE);//solves issue with statusbar
dialog.getWindow().setGravity(Gravity.CENTER_HORIZONTAL| Gravity.TOP);
}
Try use the same Style from your App. I tested with simple dialog without fragment and works fine.
Like that:
new Dialog(context, R.style.CardDetailsDialogStyle);
You have to set fitsystemwindows = true. Other way is to add a Space with 0dp and change its height to 25dp when the dialog is going to show.
To change the space size, use layout params, check this post: How to create a RelativeLayout programmatically with two buttons one on top of the other?

Just apply android:fitsSystemWindows="true" to your root ViewGroup:
`<FrameLayout
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">
<View .../>

Android: dialog box without shadow around it

How do I remove this "shadowBox" effect around the dialog box that fades the background?
I know I can create like totally custom view but let's say I want to keep it simple. I have xml layout for dialog with only textView and 2 buttons and I want to stop the fade only for this one dialog.
Try:
dialog.getWindow().clearFlags(LayoutParams.FLAG_DIM_BEHIND);
create style.xml inside values and put things like this:

<resources>

And in the end, put this style to your dialog box.
Simply use
dialog.getWindow().setBackgroundDrawableResource(android.R.color.transparent);
here give the sample class
public void showDialog () {
Dialog dialog = new Dialog(this);
Window window = dialog.getWindow();
window.setBackgroundDrawableResource(android.R.color.transparent);
window.requestFeature(window.FEATURE_NO_TITLE);
dialog.setContentView(R.layout.sample);
ImageView imggameover, imgplayagain;
imggameover = (ImageView) dialog.findViewById(R.id.gameover);
imgplayagain = (ImageView) dialog.findViewById(R.id.playagain);
imgplayagain.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() {
public void onClick(View v) {
// TODO Auto-generated method stub
startActivity(new Intent(getApplicationContext(), random.class));
onStop();
finish();
}
});
dialog.show();
}
Dialog's layout

<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/gameoverlayout"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:background="#android:color/transparent"
>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/gameover"
android:layout_width="225dip"
android:layout_height="160dip"
android:background="#drawable/gameover"
></ImageView>
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/playagain"
android:layout_width="160dip"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_marginLeft="100dip"
android:layout_marginTop="100dip"
android:background="#drawable/playagain"
></ImageView>
</RelativeLayout>
Just that you know it is also possible to change the dim amount by writing this in your theme:

0.5
