I am very new to android studio and I am having issues with running my project on emulator. Basically, run is greyed out. I tried to solve the problem through previously asked questions yet it is still not working. Here is screen shot for the problem:
run grayed out,

Just like I said I am very new to android studio and I need your help.
Check that Android Studio has SDK tools installed. Go to
File | Settings | Appearance & Behavior | System Settings | Android SDK, click SDK Tools and check that Android SDK Tools are installed.

I just updated Android Studio to new version (Android Studio Dolphin | 2021.3.1) and when I try to install the application, it just run gradle build.
I'm not sure it is cache, my PC or Android Studio issue.
If anyone also have this kind of problem and solution, please let me know.
After waiting project being built, it just end with build successful message without install the app to device like bellow screenshot.
I had a similar issue and found out that after installing Dolphin, for some reason the run configurations were amended.
Check your Run Configuration, maybe it's not configured to run the default Activity.
In the toolbar, click the dropdown and then choose Edit Configurations
Then in the window that opens, select the run configuration you want to edit. In my case, it was "zapp" and then under General tab, see that under Launch Options -> Launch it says: Default Activity.
If that still doesn't fix it for you, check the Deploy option above it.
I am using macbook with M1 chip. I am using Android Studio Bumblebee | 2021.1.1 Canary 3 version. When I run the project for the first time, there is no problem. When I debug for the second time, the changes I made in the codes are not visible in the emulator. I can't see the changes in logcat. What should I do?
thanks
I solved the problem.
"Edit Configurations..." -> Then the option I have shown in the red square needs to be selected.
You can try to go from File to Invalidate Caches / Restart... to empty your cache.
If that doesn't work try to downgrade your version. M1 Chip has problems with Android Studio because it is pretty new. Follow along this answer.
If you are sure it gets compiled and Android Studio installs it without errors you could try these things that worked for me:
Uninstalling the app inside the emulator and then running it again so the app gets reinstalled with your new version.
Also, as it's answered on here. You could also go to Tools -> AVD Manager. Right click on the emulator and then wipe data. This will delate all the data on the device.
I'm very new to Android development and have never used Android Studio before. I set it up, got my app working on my phone and left it alone for a few weeks. Upon returning, I could not find the Android Studio executable on my computer, so I reinstalled it and restarted on the same project.
Not sure if this has to do with the AVD Manager button being grayed out. Things I have tried:
Making sure my SDK path is correct
Running Android Studio as administrator
Launching the AVD Manager executable from windows. I can create a virtual device but doesn't affect disabled AVD Manager button when restarting Android Studio.
Installing Intel X86 Atom System Image and Google APIs in SDK Manager, under API 24.Everything under API 25 is installed.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!
This generally happens when Android Studio is not able identify the android sdk installation in the machine. This could happen if Android Studio is launched in non-Administrator mode.
Just close and relaunch Android Studio in administrator mode. You will see a saying "android framework is identified" Click on the configure link on that notification. The AndroidStudio will start configuring the android sdk. After some time the buttons would be visible and enabled.
If you tried running the Android Studio in administrator mode and it still do not work for you try the following way.
Delete the .idea folder in the project
Re open the project from going to File->Open Recent->
Then you will be asked to convert the project
Click convert
For anyone seeing this problem following the React Native tutorial make sure to click the "Configure" button in the Event Log next to the log text that reads "Frameworks detected: Android framework is detected in the project"
This action seems to be what configures the project to be an Android project.
I'v solved this issue by updating gradle.
It is simple
The only thing that worked for me was that I clicked in Androidstudio in the top right on SDK Managar.
And there under android sdk it was so that there was no path entered. and it was also so that NO Check box was checked below.
So I had to first click in the top right on Edit thereby was written to me the path pure.
After that I had to select a chack box below it no matter whiche and sometimes it must then just install something. When it has finished installing click OK. It may be that you then have to close and open android studio again.
I was having this issue on a new machine running MacOS High Sierra.
After installing Android Studio and the most recent SDK/
SDK Tools, I was unable to create any AVD from Android Studio (button greyed out, no option under Tools) or run the AVD Manager any other way.
I tried the same things the OP had done, then noticed I was getting the following error: Gradle sync failed: Failed to find Build Tools revision 26.0.2
From the Event Log I followed a link to download the Build tools and now it works!
If you are working on Flutter, Follow the steps:
Open Settings in Android Studio (CTRLALTS)
Search Flutter
Check may path of Flutter SDK is not available.
Set the path and press OK.
Done! Thank you
I tried the answers here, but the only solution for me was to restart my machine and it fixed itself. It happened after upgrading AS (from 4.0.2 to 4.2.2)
in android studio or intellij program:
goto tools > android > SDK manager
click on Edit (android SDK location)
click next and next
close dialog
its ok.
Bringing up a new PC with Xamarin and VS 2015 Pro I received the following error:
An unexpected error occurred trying to initialize Android Designer.
Please verify the Android SDK path and the Java Development Kit path
on Tools->Options->Xamarin->Android Settings menu. Please see the logs
for more details.
I verified the SDK's are installed correctly. VS didn't generate any kind of Activity Log so I believe the log must lie elsewhere. Anyone know where I can find this log to find out more about what is wrong ?
I had exactly the same problem described (on a new PC, with a new Visual Studio install) and am 99.9% sure the answer is in how updates are applied. Or, more importantly, how they aren't being applied when you think they are.
Go to Tools | Options | Xamarin | Other, and under Xamarin for Visual Studio Updates, Check now for STABLE updates. Make sure you're running at least 4.2.0.680. You will have to close Visual Studio in the background as the updater is running--it'll warn you. Uninstalling and installing the cross-platform development tools from Visual Studio was not applying this update for me. I had to force the issue.
Now, as mentioned earlier, go to Tools, Android SDK Manager. I noticed my "Android SDK Tools" and "Cross Platform Tools" were out of date and updates were available. I accepted and applied the updates to version 24.4.1. BEAR WITH ME, THIS IS WHERE IT GETS TRICKY--it still didn't work.
Go back to Tools, Android SDK Manager. I immediately noticed that even though I'd just applied the latest update for "Android SDK Tools", (24.4.1), a new version (25.2.2) was now available, along with 17 other updates. I accepted them all.
Bingo. Where I once had the annoying error message and an empty design surface and an empty toolbox with the sad "no usable controls" message, I now have the attached screen snapshot--a design surface where I can see a visual representation of my .axml, and a toolbox from which I can drag and drop controls and they actually show up on my Samsung tablet.
Sorry so verbose. I lost hours on this problem and thought others might appreciate another working solution.
I had a similar problem as explained below.
Here a solution that worked for me:
1) delete the one package appearing in the screen shot below.
Nota bene: At this stage VS 2015 greyed out the Android SDK manager buttons, even after a restart.
2) download installer_r24.4.1-windows.exe for windows https://developer.android.com/studio/index.html
3) launch the Android SDK Manager outside of VS and install the proposed 19 packages. This time I could go through the installation.
4) Launch VS 2015 and create Xamarin Android project. Launching Main.axml would launch the designer properly on an android project.
The bug I had
I had the same problem here on a fresh install of Win10 + Full visual studio community 2015 update 3 + .Net Core + Azure SDK and Xamarin. Creating a new project Xamarin Native (iOs + Androird) shows up the same message as mentioned by MikeJ. In addition, running in debug F5 makes the designer have a new popup
Problem seems to appear also here
https://bugzilla.xamarin.com/show_bug.cgi?id=44374
and here
https://forums.xamarin.com/discussion/77669/how-do-i-fix-this-error-the-installed-android-sdk-is-too-old-version-25-1-3-or-newer-is-required
.
Opening the Android Manager does not show up version 25 as an option, instead it shows this
However, we cannot install (greyed out button even by accepting license)
Updating Xamarin did not work neither How to update Xamarin for Android within Visual Studio Community 2015
Some guidance would be great to understand what happened.
I had the same problem (when bringing up a new PC with Xamarin) and after a few days I solved the problem.
I moved sdk directory from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk" to "C:\android-sdk". Then I opened the sdk manager and made updates. It's all.
I think the problem is with the path, which has space :)
I was able to to fix the issue by opening the Android SDK Manager and updating all the tools to the latest version.
If you are already using Android Studio in your computer then this might solve your problem.
Check whether SDK is already available at some other location. That worked for me. To check SDK path- Open Android Studio-> Click on SDK Manager Icon. Check Android SDK Location. Copy that path.
In Visual Studio-- Open Tools->Options->Xamarin->Android Settings menu and replace the new SDK path. It will automatically ask to download the updates. Install all packages and you are done!
before you go through all that trouble (and I went through many convoluted steps myself for several hours) please try run your VisualStudio as administrator and see what happens!
It solved the above issue (and then some) for me. I used fresh WIN 10 and VS2015 Community install and I must have set some of my permissions to tight.
Also I learned that updating my NuGet package: Xamarin.Forms (v.2.3.3.168)
solved errors related to:
System.MissingMethodException: Method Android.Support.V4.Widget.DrawerLayout.AddDrawerListener not found.
But that is another issue all together.
Adding these two references to Droid.csproj and packages.config fixed the problem for me:
<package id="Xamarin.Android.Support.Animated.Vector.Drawable" version="23.3.0" targetFramework="monoandroid60" />
<package id="Xamarin.Android.Support.Vector.Drawable" version="23.3.0" targetFramework="monoandroid60" />
Another issue to be aware of is that you need to have Java Development Kit 8 referenced in Xamarin, instead of JDK 7. You can set this is Tools > Options > Xamarin > Android.
Hello Installing Android Studio seems to be a nightmare !
I've downloaded this build : android-studio-ide-135.1538390-windows
At the first execution it says that JVM is missing
So I've installed : jdk-8u25-windows-i586.exe
Next run Now I get a message saying that I need an environnement variable to catch the JDK
OK I set it also
Finaly the JDK can be found.... but the nightmare is not finish
I launch Android Studio and try to open a new Project
Now it does not found the SDK which was suposed to come with the IDE
OK back to Download I get : installer_r23.0.2-windows.exe (Very explicit name !!) and I install it
I try again : still no SDK
I keep calm I continue to follow the rules
Your Android SDK is Missing, out of date or is missing Templates
You can configure your SDK Via Configure | Project Default | Project Structure | SDKs
So I try to set
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk
But the IDE refuse to keep that setting
Now I give-up I need some help
Maybe let the SDK installed on Program_Files is not a good idea ?
Thanks for any help
Simple Open the Android Studio.
First click on File menu then Project Structure then you will find an option to set the SDK location. Now instead of writing path simply browse then you are done.
It should solve your problem.
I filed a bug report about that earlier today.
Just start creating or importing a project from the welcome dialog. You should be prompted to supply the SDK path at that point, and (so far) that seems to stick.
