At the moment only my GridView is scrollable, but I need my ViewFlipper to be scrollable as well. I need help making ViewFlipper scroll vertically
Here is my layout at the moment:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/activity_grids"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:overScrollMode="always"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<ViewFlipper
android:layout_marginTop="56dp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="150dp"
android:autoStart="true"
android:id="#+id/vf1z"
android:flipInterval="3000">
<ImageView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:scaleType="fitXY"
android:background="#drawable/front"
android:id="#+id/imageViewz"/>
</ViewFlipper>
<GridView
android:numColumns="3"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/grid"
android:layout_marginTop="208dp"/>
<include layout="#layout/search"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/include">
</include>
</RelativeLayout>
You can add all the elements in your layout in a ScrollView like this.
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/activity_grids"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:overScrollMode="always"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<ScrollView
android:id="#+id/scrollView1"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
>
<ViewFlipper
android:layout_marginTop="56dp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="150dp"
android:autoStart="true"
android:id="#+id/vf1z"
android:flipInterval="3000">
<ImageView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:scaleType="fitXY"
android:background="#drawable/front"
android:id="#+id/imageViewz"
/>
</ViewFlipper>
<GridView
android:numColumns="3"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/grid"
android:layout_marginTop="208dp"
/>
</ScrollView>
<include layout="#layout/search"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:id="#+id/include">
</include>
</RelativeLayout>
Or if you only want your ViewFlipper to be scrollable you can just add the ViewFlipper in a ScrollView
You can use VerticalViewPager its custom implementation
/**
* Uses a combination of a PageTransformer and swapping X & Y coordinates
* of touch events to create the illusion of a vertically scrolling ViewPager.
*
* Requires API 11+
*
*/
public class VerticalViewPager extends ViewPager {
public VerticalViewPager(Context context) {
super(context);
init();
}
public VerticalViewPager(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) {
super(context, attrs);
init();
}
private void init() {
// The majority of the magic happens here
setPageTransformer(true, new VerticalPageTransformer());
// The easiest way to get rid of the overscroll drawing that happens on the left and right
setOverScrollMode(OVER_SCROLL_NEVER);
}
private class VerticalPageTransformer implements ViewPager.PageTransformer {
#Override
public void transformPage(View view, float position) {
if (position < -1) { // [-Infinity,-1)
// This page is way off-screen to the left.
view.setAlpha(0);
} else if (position <= 1) { // [-1,1]
view.setAlpha(1);
// Counteract the default slide transition
view.setTranslationX(view.getWidth() * -position);
//set Y position to swipe in from top
float yPosition = position * view.getHeight();
view.setTranslationY(yPosition);
} else { // (1,+Infinity]
// This page is way off-screen to the right.
view.setAlpha(0);
}
}
}
/**
* Swaps the X and Y coordinates of your touch event.
*/
private MotionEvent swapXY(MotionEvent ev) {
float width = getWidth();
float height = getHeight();
float newX = (ev.getY() / height) * width;
float newY = (ev.getX() / width) * height;
ev.setLocation(newX, newY);
return ev;
}
#Override
public boolean onInterceptTouchEvent(MotionEvent ev){
boolean intercepted = super.onInterceptTouchEvent(swapXY(ev));
swapXY(ev); // return touch coordinates to original reference frame for any child views
return intercepted;
}
#Override
public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent ev) {
return super.onTouchEvent(swapXY(ev));
}
}

I have a horizontal recycler-view within motion layout. Sometimes when I do a horizontal swipe, the page starts scrolling in the vertical direction. This happens when we do a diagonal fling.
I want something like Google Play where horizontal recycler-views can defend slightly diagonal vertical swipes. BTW setting nestedscrollEnabled doesn't work.
There is quite a nice article regarding all the RecycleView scroll behavior and the issue itself. Checkout RĂºben Sousa article. Solution is quite easy, try to use adopted RecyclerView:
/**
* A RecyclerView that only handles scroll events with the same orientation of its LayoutManager.
* Avoids situations where nested recyclerviews don't receive touch events properly:
*/
public class OrientationAwareRecyclerView extends RecyclerView {
private float lastX = 0.0f;
private float lastY = 0.0f;
private boolean scrolling = false;
public OrientationAwareRecyclerView(#NonNull Context context) {
this(context, null);
}
public OrientationAwareRecyclerView(#NonNull Context context, #Nullable AttributeSet attrs) {
this(context, attrs, 0);
}
public OrientationAwareRecyclerView(#NonNull Context context, #Nullable AttributeSet attrs,
int defStyleAttr) {
super(context, attrs, defStyleAttr);
addOnScrollListener(new OnScrollListener() {
#Override
public void onScrollStateChanged(#NonNull RecyclerView recyclerView, int newState) {
super.onScrollStateChanged(recyclerView, newState);
scrolling = newState != RecyclerView.SCROLL_STATE_IDLE;
}
});
}
#Override
public boolean onInterceptTouchEvent(MotionEvent e) {
final LayoutManager lm = getLayoutManager();
if (lm == null) {
return super.onInterceptTouchEvent(e);
}
boolean allowScroll = true;
switch (e.getActionMasked()) {
case MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN: {
lastX = e.getX();
lastY = e.getY();
// If we were scrolling, stop now by faking a touch release
if (scrolling) {
MotionEvent newEvent = MotionEvent.obtain(e);
newEvent.setAction(MotionEvent.ACTION_UP);
return super.onInterceptTouchEvent(newEvent);
}
break;
}
case MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE: {
// We're moving, so check if we're trying
// to scroll vertically or horizontally so we don't intercept the wrong event.
float currentX = e.getX();
float currentY = e.getY();
float dx = Math.abs(currentX - lastX);
float dy = Math.abs(currentY - lastY);
allowScroll = dy > dx ? lm.canScrollVertically() : lm.canScrollHorizontally();
break;
}
}
if (!allowScroll) {
return false;
}
return super.onInterceptTouchEvent(e);
}
}
This Work perfect for me.

Try this:
RecyclerView rv = findViewById(R.id.recycler_view);
LinearLayoutManager layoutManager = new LinearLayoutManager(getActivity(), LinearLayoutManager.HORIZONTAL, true);
rv.setLayoutManager(layoutManager);
rv.setOnTouchListener(new View.OnTouchListener() {
#Override
public boolean onTouch(View v, MotionEvent event) {
int action = event.getAction();
switch (action) {
case MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN:
// Disallow RecyclerView to intercept touch events.
v.getParent().requestDisallowInterceptTouchEvent(true);
break;
case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP:
// Allow RecyclerView to intercept touch events.
v.getParent().requestDisallowInterceptTouchEvent(false);
break;
}
v.onTouchEvent(event);
return true;
}
});
That code prevent scroll vertically when you scroll with your horizontal recyclerview.
I am trying to implement vertical view pager like "Happn" app
Here is my custom ViewPager class
VerticalViewPager.java
import android.content.Context;
import android.support.v4.view.ViewPager;
import android.util.AttributeSet;
import android.view.MotionEvent;
import android.view.View;
public class VerticalViewPager extends ViewPager {
public VerticalViewPager(Context context) {
super(context);
init();
}
public VerticalViewPager(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) {
super(context, attrs);
init();
}
private void init() {
// The majority of the magic happens here
setPageTransformer(true, new VerticalPageTransformer());
// The easiest way to get rid of the overscroll drawing that happens on the left and right
setOverScrollMode(OVER_SCROLL_NEVER);
}
private class VerticalPageTransformer implements ViewPager.PageTransformer {
#Override
public void transformPage(View view, float position) {
if (position < -1) { // [-Infinity,-1)
// This page is way off-screen to the left.
view.setAlpha(0);
} else if (position <= 1) { // [-1,1]
view.setAlpha(1);
// Counteract the default slide transition
view.setTranslationX(view.getWidth() * -position);
//set Y position to swipe in from top
float yPosition = position * view.getHeight();
view.setTranslationY(yPosition);
} else { // (1,+Infinity]
// This page is way off-screen to the right.
view.setAlpha(0);
}
}
}
private MotionEvent swapXY(MotionEvent ev) {
float width = getWidth();
float height = getHeight();
float newX = (ev.getY() / height) * width;
float newY = (ev.getX() / width) * height;
ev.setLocation(newX, newY);
return ev;
}
#Override
public boolean onInterceptTouchEvent(MotionEvent ev){
boolean intercepted = super.onInterceptTouchEvent(swapXY(ev));
swapXY(ev); // return touch coordinates to original reference frame for any child views
return intercepted;
}
#Override
public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent ev) {
return super.onTouchEvent(swapXY(ev));
}
}
I am able to show vertical view pager. But I am not able to maintain page margin on top, So that adjacent items also can partially visible. Below setPageMargin() method is working for horizontal viewpager. I want similar gaping in vertical view pager. Please help me, I am really struck.
mPager.setPageMargin(-100);
Try this below code
viewPager.setClipToPadding(false);
viewPager.setPadding(70, 30, 170, 30);//left,top,right,bottom in px
viewPager.setPageMargin(30);
This will set the padding as desired, this one is working for me.
Try it and do let me know if it worked for you

I want to write a SimpleSlideView that can scroll it content down by pull down on it SimpleSlideView works as expected in lightweight XML but a little weird in complex XML.
#layout/layout_live_top contain a FrameLayout root view with 40dip layout_margin and layout_live_top is a little complex.
SimpleSlideView is a MatchParent view without padding and margin, same with it child #+id/yellow_child_view which has a yellow background.
Something weird is happen when quickly pulldown:
The yellow area has 40dip margin left and right at the beginning of the pull and then it become match parent.SimpleSlideView seems to be affected by the margin(40dip) of other view, it should be matched parent while pulling down.I don't know why this happened.It is because of my complex XML?
I have this VerticalViewPager that works like charm:

the problem is when i add paddings for example :
android:paddingEnd 40dp
android:paddingLeft 40dp
android:paddingRight 40dp
android:paddingStart 40dp
the view gets into the bottom corner of the screen (basically gets off screen), i dont know how to modify the transformPage in the code to fix this pls help?

are there maybe better verticalviewpager ?
I have a ScrollView. One of its children is a ListView. Both scrolling in the same direction. How do I get both of them to respond to scroll events? And then when the end of the ListView is reached for the event to go to the parent ScrollView so the ScrollView may scroll?
xml layout:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

android:layout_height="match_parent"

android:id="#+id/..."
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="0"
android:orientation="horizontal">
...
</LinearLayout>
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
.../>
<RelativeLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:padding="#dimen/pad_half"
>
</RelativeLayout>
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="horizontal"
android:gravity="center_vertical"
>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
My ListView actually goes inside the ViewPager. The design is such that about three items in the ListView is visible, and user is able to scroll to see other items. In the meantime, the views above and below the ViewPager are visible. Again, it's a ViewPager: it has other pages than the ListView in question.
You Should not have a listview within a ScrollView.
But you can have a custom class and use that to accomplish A Listview with in a ScrollView.
Try the following code
first make a custom ScrollView Class.
public class VerticalScrollview extends ScrollView{
public VerticalScrollview(Context context) {
super(context);
}
public VerticalScrollview(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) {

Then use this class for you layout
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#android:color/white"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<com.gui.today.VerticalScrollview
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#000000"
tools:context=".MainActivity" >
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<FrameLayout
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" >
<ProgressBar
android:id="#+id/progressBar3"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center_vertical|center_horizontal" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/empty_calender"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center_vertical|center_horizontal"
android:text="#string/empty_calender"
android:textColor="#ffffff"
android:visibility="gone" />
<ListView
android:id="#+id/listView2"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="150dp" >
</ListView>
</FrameLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</com.gui.today.VerticalScrollview>
I have a ScrollView
Get rid of it.
One of its children is a ListView
Put everything in the ListView, either using addHeaderView()/addFooterView(), my MergeAdapter, or something else along those lines.
You cant scroll a listview same direction as the scrollview. But if you have a horizontal scrollview you can scroll vertical with a listview.
you cannot add a ListView in a scroll View ,as list view also scolls and there would be a synchonization problem between listview scroll and scroll view scoll. You can make a CustomList View and add this method into it.
#Override public boolean onInterceptTouchEvent(MotionEvent ev)
{
/*
* Prevent parent controls from stealing our events once we've gotten a touch down
*/
if (ev.getActionMasked() == MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN) {
ViewParent p = getParent();
if (p != null) {
p.requestDisallowInterceptTouchEvent(true);
}
}
return false;
}
