Below is my Main Activity with Navigation drawer. However I've realised that for my Fragment Transaction, this cant be an activity it has to be a fragment. Is it possible to convert to a fragment or shall I start again..

I developed a app using fragments and a Navigation Drawer.
On the whole it works perfect. The only thing that I would like to add is a welcome screen on the startup.
At the moment the app shows a empty screen with the Navigation Drawer after starting up because the content_main.xml contains only the 'FrameLayout' that not looks very nice.
I have already a fragment Welcome so that I just need to show it on startup of the app.
My code in the MainActivity.java looks like this.
package com.example.petra.accessibilitydemonstration;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton;
import android.support.design.widget.Snackbar;
import android.support.v4.app.Fragment;
import android.support.v4.app.FragmentManager;
import android.support.v4.app.FragmentTransaction;
import android.view.View;
import android.support.design.widget.NavigationView;
import android.support.v4.view.GravityCompat;
import android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout;
import android.support.v7.app.ActionBarDrawerToggle;
import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar;
import android.view.Menu;
import android.view.MenuItem;
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity
implements NavigationView.OnNavigationItemSelectedListener {
FragmentTransaction fragmentTransaction;
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
DrawerLayout drawer = (DrawerLayout)
findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
ActionBarDrawerToggle toggle = new ActionBarDrawerToggle(
this, drawer, toolbar, R.string.navigation_drawer_open,
R.string.navigation_drawer_close);
drawer.addDrawerListener(toggle);
toggle.syncState();
NavigationView navigationView = (NavigationView)
findViewById(R.id.nav_view);
navigationView.setNavigationItemSelectedListener(this);
}
public void onBackPressed() {
DrawerLayout drawer = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
if (drawer.isDrawerOpen(GravityCompat.START)) {
drawer.closeDrawer(GravityCompat.START);
} else {
super.onBackPressed();
}
}
#Override
public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
// Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.
getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.main, menu);
return true;
}
#Override
public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
// Handle action bar item clicks here. The action bar will
// automatically handle clicks on the Home/Up button, so long
// as you specify a parent activity in AndroidManifest.xml.
int id = item.getItemId();
//noinspection SimplifiableIfStatement
if (id == R.id.action_settings) {
return true;
}
return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
}
#SuppressWarnings("StatementWithEmptyBody")
#Override
public boolean onNavigationItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
Fragment fragment = null;
int id = item.getItemId();
if (id == R.id.nav_welcome) {
fragment = new WelcomeFragment();
} else if (id == R.id.nav_table) {
fragment = new TableFragment();
} else if (id == R.id.nav_table_accessible) {
fragment = new TableAccessibleFragment();
} else if (id == R.id.nav_about_us) {
fragment = new AboutFragment();
}
if (fragment != null){
FragmentManager fragmentManager = getSupportFragmentManager();
FragmentTransaction ft = fragmentManager.beginTransaction();
ft.replace(R.id.screen_area, fragment );
ft.commit();
}
DrawerLayout drawer = (DrawerLayout)
findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
drawer.closeDrawer(GravityCompat.START);
return true;
}
}
Can some one explain what I have to do in order to solve this problem, please,
Petra
That startup screen is commonly known as Splash screen. Take a new activity with a layout having ImageView or you can also set the welcome image to the layout background.
Declare this Welcome activity as launcher activity in AndroidManifest.xml file.
It seems you are new to the android development world, if it's true then there are multiple online courses available, I would suggest you to start with completing or learning from one course https://in.udacity.com/courses/android
im using the Navigation Drawer Activity and im stucked at one problem. I get this error message
Cannot resolve Method 'replace (int)
I was watching a tutorial but the guy doesnt get the error message somehow. I was also trying to solve the problem by reading other posts but it confused me even more.
My Code looks like this:
MainActivity.java
package androfenix.mycvapp;

NavigationView navigationView = (NavigationView) findViewById(R.id.nav_view);
navigationView.setNavigationItemSelectedListener(this);
}
#Override
public void onBackPressed() {
DrawerLayout drawer = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
if (drawer.isDrawerOpen(GravityCompat.START)) {
drawer.closeDrawer(GravityCompat.START);
} else {
super.onBackPressed();
}
}
#Override

// Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.
getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.main, menu);
return true;
}
#Override

DrawerLayout drawer = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
drawer.closeDrawer(GravityCompat.START);
return true;
}
}
And the layout fragment which i want to replace is this one:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/relativelayout_for_fragment"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
tools:context="androfenix.mycvapp.MainActivity"
tools:showIn="#layout/app_bar_main">
</android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout>
Please Study about fragments
replace(R.id.relativelayout_for_fragment,"your about me fragment").commit();
why would you even pass fragment object in commit() method there is no such method;
Here FragmentTransaction.Commit() does not Require an Arguement
so instead of:
manager.beginTransaction().replace(R.id.relativelayout_for_fragment).commit(fragmentAboutme);
use:
manager.beginTransaction().replace(R.id.relativelayout_for_fragment, fragmentAboutme).commit();
Also make sure your FragmentAboutme is extending the support library
import android.support.v4.app.Fragment;

As the error suggest you should implement OnFragmentInteractionListener in your Activity
public class NavigationDrawerActivity extends AppCompactActivity implements
NavigationView.OnNavigationItemSelectedListener,OnMapReadyCallback
,ProfileFragment.OnFragmentInteractionListener{ //this need to be implemented
Also override the method in your activity
#Override
public void onFragmentInteraction(int data){ //method that need to be implemented
//your implementation
}

I solved my problem by this link.
I'm creating a Navigation Drawer like this
MainActivity.java
import android.support.v4.app.FragmentManager;
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton;
import android.support.design.widget.NavigationView;
import android.support.design.widget.Snackbar;
import android.support.v4.view.GravityCompat;
import android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout;
import android.support.v7.app.ActionBarDrawerToggle;
import android.support.v7.app.AppCompatActivity;
import android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar;
import android.view.Menu;
import android.view.MenuItem;
import android.view.View;
import com.paperwrrk.videos.FragmentVideo;
public class MainActivity extends AppCompatActivity
implements NavigationView.OnNavigationItemSelectedListener {
#Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);
Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
FloatingActionButton fab = (FloatingActionButton) findViewById(R.id.fab);
fab.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
#Override
public void onClick(View view) {
Snackbar.make(view, "Replace with your own action", Snackbar.LENGTH_LONG)
.setAction("Action", null).show();
}
});
DrawerLayout drawer = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
ActionBarDrawerToggle toggle = new ActionBarDrawerToggle(
this, drawer, toolbar, R.string.navigation_drawer_open, R.string.navigation_drawer_close);
drawer.setDrawerListener(toggle);
toggle.syncState();
NavigationView navigationView = (NavigationView) findViewById(R.id.nav_view);
navigationView.setNavigationItemSelectedListener(this);
}
#Override
public void onBackPressed() {
DrawerLayout drawer = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
if (drawer.isDrawerOpen(GravityCompat.START)) {
drawer.closeDrawer(GravityCompat.START);
} else {
super.onBackPressed();
}
}
#Override
public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) {
// Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present.
getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.main, menu);
return true;
}
#Override
public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
// Handle action bar item clicks here. The action bar will
// automatically handle clicks on the Home/Up button, so long
// as you specify a parent activity in AndroidManifest.xml.
int id = item.getItemId();
//noinspection SimplifiableIfStatement
if (id == R.id.action_settings) {
return true;
}
return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item);
}
#SuppressWarnings("StatementWithEmptyBody")
#Override
public boolean onNavigationItemSelected(MenuItem item) {
// Handle navigation view item clicks here.
int id = item.getItemId();
FragmentManager fragmentManager = getSupportFragmentManager();
if (id == R.id.nav_home) {
// Handle the camera action
} else if (id == R.id.nav_articles) {
} else if (id == R.id.nav_videos) {
fragmentManager.beginTransaction()
.replace(R.id.content_frame, new FragmentVideo())
.addToBackStack(null)
.commit();
} else if (id == R.id.fb_posts) {
} else if (id == R.id.nav_share) {
} else if (id == R.id.nav_send) {
}
DrawerLayout drawer = (DrawerLayout) findViewById(R.id.drawer_layout);
drawer.closeDrawer(GravityCompat.START);
return true;
}
}
My FragmentVideo
import android.os.Bundle;
import android.support.v4.app.Fragment;
import android.view.LayoutInflater;
import android.view.View;
import android.view.ViewGroup;
import com.paperwrrk.R;
public class FragmentVideo extends Fragment {
View myView;
#Override
public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState){
myView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_video, container, false);
return myView;
}
}
But when I click on the item from Navigation Drawer second fragment doesn't replace or hide the first one, it is overlapping like this
Please see the screenshot
Use a container instead of using fragment tag
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:text="Hello World!" />
Now in activity
if(condition)
getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.container,new FirstFragment()).commit();
else
getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction().replace(R.id.container, new SecondFragment()).commit();
if this not works try to get the fragment container view ID..Here's the code:
transaction.replace(((ViewGroup)(getView().getParent())).getId(), fragment);
It works for me...
int id = item.getItemId();
android.app.Fragment fragment = null;
if (id == R.id.nav_profile) {
fragment = new ProfileActivity();
if (fragment != null) {
android.app.FragmentManager fragmentManager = getFragmentManager();
fragmentManager.beginTransaction()
.replace(R.id.content_frame, fragment).commit();
}
