Notification from broadcast receiver backstack - android

When my broadcast receiver is triggered it will launch a notification that directs the user to an chat activity which is build in the application.
The problem is when the user is inside the application doing things. (it's main purpose is not chatting)
let's say receives the notification while he's in the menu of the app
When he presses the notification the chat activity starts up
When pressing the back button the user goes to the home screen of the phone?
I want it to go back to the activity where he triggered the notification. This could be anywhere inside the application.
Building the notification:
notificationIntent = new Intent(mContext, BerichtenActivity.class);
Toast.makeText(context, verzender + ": " + inhoud, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
Notification notification = NotificationUtils.handleNotification(mContext, notificationIntent, verzender, inhoud, R.drawable.ic_stat_chat);
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) mContext.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.notify(notificationId, notification);
public static Notification handleNotification(Context context, Intent resultIntent, String titel, String body, int smallIcon){
PendingIntent resultPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, resultIntent, 0);
Uri uri= RingtoneManager.getDefaultUri(RingtoneManager.TYPE_NOTIFICATION);
NotificationCompat.Builder notificationBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(context)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setContentText(body)
.setContentTitle(titel)
.setContentIntent(resultPendingIntent)
.setSound(uri)
.setLargeIcon(BitmapFactory.decodeResource(
context.getResources(), R.mipmap.ic_launcher))
.setSmallIcon(smallIcon);
return notificationBuilder.build();
}

Remove notification on clicking (Not a duplicate) [duplicate]

I just started working with notifications and now I'm trying to remove the notification and launch the app once the notification has been tapped in the notificationcenter.
I tried to work with the following code:
import android.app.NotificationManager;
public class ExpandNotification {
private int NOTIFICATION = 546;
private NotificationManager mNM;
public void onCreate() {
mNM.cancel(NOTIFICATION);
setContentView(R.layout.activity_on);
//Toast.makeText(this, "stopped service", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show();
}
I think this code executes the other class when tapped?
PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, REQUEST_CODE, new Intent(this, ExpandNotification.class), 0);
However the notification doesn't go away, nor does the application launch.
But I'm able to swipe it to left or right to remove it but that's not what I want..
To get the same effect using Notification.Builder or NotificationCompat.Builder call setAutoCancel(true) on the Builder instance.
Use the flag Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL
Notification notification = new Notification(icon, tickerText, when);
notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, contentTitle, contentText, pendingIntent);
// Cancel the notification after its selected
notification.flags |= Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL;
and to launch the app:
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) context.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
// Create a new intent which will be fired if you click on the notification
Intent intent = new Intent(context, App.class);
// Attach the intent to a pending intent
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, intent_id, intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
This answer is too much late but specially i write following solution because notification constructor become deprecated so use notification using builder , like following :
**.setAutoCancel(true)** is used to remove notification on click
and entire notification is like follwoing :
private void makeNotification(String title,String msg){
Intent resultIntent = new Intent(this, MasterActivity.class);
PendingIntent resultPendingIntent =
PendingIntent.getActivity(
this,
0,
resultIntent,
PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT
);
NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder =
new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setContentIntent(resultPendingIntent)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_launcher)
.setContentTitle(title)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setContentText(msg);
int mNotificationId = 001;
NotificationManager mNotifyMgr =
(NotificationManager) getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
mNotifyMgr.notify(mNotificationId, mBuilder.build());
}
Calling this method with title and message you get perfect notification.
You can directly add .setAutoCancel(true) this line into your code in order to remove notification on click.
This must be added in your builder variable.
Example:
mBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(mContext);
mBuilder.setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.ic_launcher);
mBuilder.setContentTitle("Notification")
.setContentText("Hello")
.setSound(Settings.System.DEFAULT_NOTIFICATION_URI)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setContentIntent(pendingIntent);
Best & simple way is set builder.setAutoCancel(true) it's cancel your notification after clicking on notification. I hope this code help you.
Builder for notification
NotificationCompat.Builder builder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this);
builder.setSmallIcon(android.R.drawable.btn_star);
builder.setContentTitle("This is title of notification");
builder.setContentText("This is a notification Text");
builder.setLargeIcon(BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(), R.mipmap.ic_launcher));
For open an activity on clicking notification
Intent intent = new Intent(Broadcastdemo.this, ThreadDemo.class);
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 113,intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
builder.setContentIntent(pendingIntent);
builder.setAutoCancel(true);
Show bulder in notification
NotificationManager manager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
manager.notify(114, builder.build());
Complete code for show a notification with icon, image, title, description, auto cancel and on click open an activity
public void ShowIntentNotification(View v)
{
NotificationCompat.Builder builder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this);
builder.setSmallIcon(android.R.drawable.btn_star);
builder.setContentTitle("This is title of notification");
builder.setContentText("This is a notification Text");
builder.setLargeIcon(BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(), R.mipmap.ic_launcher));
Intent intent = new Intent(Broadcastdemo.this, ThreadDemo.class);
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 113,intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
builder.setContentIntent(pendingIntent);
builder.setAutoCancel(true);
NotificationManager manager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
manager.notify(114, builder.build());
}
For my it was that
.setPriority(Notification.PRIORITY_HIGH);
that was causing the notification to not clear after click... make sure you use:
.setPriority(Notification.PRIORITY_DEFAULT);
And .setAutoCancel(true) should work.

Unable to show notification when application in foreground

I am trying to get push notifications using FCM in my android application the code is working fine when notification is sent from FCM console it works fine both in foreground and background, but when I send notifications using curl through FCM I am getting data which is visible in logcat but notification is displayed only when application is in background and does not show up when application is in foreground. onMessageReceived is called every time when data is pushed from FCM but notification is not visible when application is in foreground.
private void sendNotification(String body , Map<String,String> data) {
int finalSecId = Integer.parseInt((String) data.get("sec_id"));
int sec = Integer.parseInt((String) data.get("sec"));
String extra1 = (String) data.get("extra1");
String extra2 = (String) data.get("extra2");
Intent intent = new Intent(this,HomeActivity.class);
intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP);
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0/*Request code*/, intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_ONE_SHOT);
//Set sound of notification
Uri notificationSound = RingtoneManager.getDefaultUri(RingtoneManager.TYPE_NOTIFICATION);
NotificationCompat.Builder notifiBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.login_meter)
.setContentTitle(getString(R.string.app_name))
.setContentText(body)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setSound(notificationSound)
.setContentIntent(pendingIntent);
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager)getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.notify(0 /*ID of notification*/, notifiBuilder.build());
}

Open particular activity/fragment after clicking on Firebase notification when app is closed

I know this question seems duplicate, but for my requirement, I have searched many posts online, but nothing worked for me.
My requirement
I'm using the Firebase to get the push notifications. When app was opened means everything working fine but my problem is, app is in background/closed if any push notification came means i want to open the particular activity or fragment when clicking on that notification, but it always opening the launcher/main activity.
For this, I have tried the following scenarios
Scenario 1
Used the bundle to transfer notification data from FirebaseMessagingService to the launcher/Main activity and based on the bundle data i'm redirecting to the particular activity/fragment
Scenario 2
By using Sharedpreference
Scenario 3
By using intent.putExtra
following the above scenarios everything working fine when app was opened but if my app was closed means it always redirecting to the main/launcher activity
My code
Intent intent = new Intent(this, MainActivity.class);
intent.putExtra("reqTo", messageBody);
intent.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP);
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
Uri defaultSoundUri= RingtoneManager.getDefaultUri(RingtoneManager.TYPE_NOTIFICATION);
NotificationCompat.Builder notificationBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.ic_launcher)
.setContentTitle(title)
.setContentText(messageBody)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setSound(defaultSoundUri)
.setContentIntent(pendingIntent);
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.notify(0, notificationBuilder.build());
So, does anyone know how to open the particular activity/Fragment when clicking on the Firebase push notification when the app is closed.
public void showNotificationMessage(final String title, final String message, Intent intent) {
// Check for empty push message
if (TextUtils.isEmpty(message))
return;
// notification icon
final int icon = R.drawable.logo;
intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_SINGLE_TOP);
final PendingIntent resultPendingIntent =
PendingIntent.getActivity(
mContext,
0,
intent,
PendingIntent.FLAG_CANCEL_CURRENT
);
final NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(
mContext);
final Uri alarmSound = Uri.parse(ContentResolver.SCHEME_ANDROID_RESOURCE
+ "://" + mContext.getPackageName() + "/raw/notification");
showSmallNotification(mBuilder, icon, title, message, resultPendingIntent, alarmSound);
playNotificationSound();
}
private void showSmallNotification(NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder, int icon, String title, String message, PendingIntent resultPendingIntent, Uri alarmSound) {
NotificationCompat.InboxStyle inboxStyle = new NotificationCompat.InboxStyle();
inboxStyle.addLine(message);
Notification notification;
notification = mBuilder.setSmallIcon(icon).setTicker(title).setWhen(0)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setContentTitle(title)
.setContentIntent(resultPendingIntent)
.setSound(alarmSound)
.setStyle(inboxStyle)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.logo)
.setLargeIcon(BitmapFactory.decodeResource(mContext.getResources(), icon))
.setContentText(message)
.build();
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) mContext.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.notify(Config.NOTIFICATION_ID, notification);
}
private void showBigNotification(Bitmap bitmap, NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder, int icon, String title, String message, PendingIntent resultPendingIntent, Uri alarmSound) {
NotificationCompat.BigPictureStyle bigPictureStyle = new NotificationCompat.BigPictureStyle();
bigPictureStyle.setBigContentTitle(title);
bigPictureStyle.setSummaryText(Html.fromHtml(message).toString());
bigPictureStyle.bigPicture(bitmap);
Notification notification;
notification = mBuilder.setSmallIcon(icon).setTicker(title).setWhen(0)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setContentTitle(title)
.setContentIntent(resultPendingIntent)
.setSound(alarmSound)
.setStyle(bigPictureStyle)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.logo)
.setLargeIcon(BitmapFactory.decodeResource(mContext.getResources(), icon))
.setContentText(message)
.build();
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) mContext.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.notify(Config.NOTIFICATION_ID_BIG_IMAGE, notification);
}
You can check app closed or not like this
if (!NotificationUtils.isAppIsInBackground(getApplicationContext())) {
This is very similar to my answer given here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/41441631/1291714
In summary though, you need to use Firebase Cloud Messaging and not Firebase Notifications in order to receive a message in the background and do custom processing. You need to send "data" messages to the client and then in your service, you will then always receive the callback, whether the app is in the foreground or background.
With Firebase Notifications, you will only receive the callback when the app is in the Foreground. When the app is in the background, the system will handle and display the notification for a user. You won't be able to customise this notification to open up a different intent.

Android notification in background continue previous intent

sendNotification('Hello', 0, 1);
private void sendNotification(String message, int id, int notification_num) {
NotificationManager nm = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
Intent intent = new Intent(this, Main.class);
intent.setData(new Uri.Builder().scheme("data").build());
intent.putExtra("id", id);
intent.putExtra("noti_number", notification_num);
TaskStackBuilder stackBuilder = TaskStackBuilder.create(this);
stackBuilder.addParentStack(Main.class);
stackBuilder.addNextIntent(intent);
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, id, intent,
PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
Uri defaultSoundUri = RingtoneManager.getDefaultUri(RingtoneManager.TYPE_NOTIFICATION);
NotificationCompat.Builder notificationBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setContentTitle("App Title")
.setContentText(message)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.notif)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setSound(defaultSoundUri)
.setContentIntent(pendingIntent);
notificationBuilder.setNumber(notification_num);
nm.notify(id, notificationBuilder.build());
}
When application is opened intent.putExtra works fine, but when I close app (kill proccess), notification is coming but not with it extra than with new intent extra.
Problem is also with multiple notification, when app is closed, there are no grouping like I want it to be.
notificationBuilder.setNumber is always 0 in background.
Need help how to run app always in background or how to continue previous intent.
I have done it using GcmIntentService & GcmBroadcastReceiver, for more info click on this link.

Notification auto cancel not working for Android lollipop

I want to auto cancel my notification when user clicks on notification. The following code works good in all the devices except Android lollipop device. In Lollipop device, notification goes only when user swipes it off.
#SuppressWarnings("deprecation")
public void sendNotification(int id){
NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder =
new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_launcher)
.setContentTitle("Test")
.setContentText("Jump to next screen")
.setDefaults(Notification.DEFAULT_SOUND)
.setAutoCancel(true);
mBuilder.getNotification().flags |= Notification.FLAG_AUTO_CANCEL | Notification.FLAG_ONLY_ALERT_ONCE;
// Creates an explicit intent for an Activity in your app
Intent resultIntent = new Intent(this, NextActivity.class);
resultIntent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK|Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK);
PendingIntent resultPendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(getApplicationContext(), 0,
resultIntent, 0);
//PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT
mBuilder.setContentIntent(resultPendingIntent);
NotificationManager mNotificationManager =
(NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
// id, if there is a need to update the notification later on.
mNotificationManager.notify(id, mBuilder.build());
Log.v(TAG, "Notification ID value " + id);
//mNotificationManager.cancel(id);
}
What is missing in this code?
Looks good to me. My auto cancel still works on 5.0.2. Let me give you a portion of my code:
public static void notif(int id, String title, String text, Context context, Class activity) {
// get an instance of the NotificationManager service
if (mNotifyMgr == null)
mNotifyMgr = (NotificationManager) context.getApplicationContext().getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
Intent intent = new Intent(context, activity);
intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TASK);
PendingIntent notifIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, intent, PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT);
NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder =
new NotificationCompat.Builder(context)
.setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.launcher)
.setContentTitle(title)
.setContentText(text)
.setContentIntent(notifIntent);
mNotifyMgr.notify(id, mBuilder.build());
}
modify following:
setAutoCancel(true) -> setAutoCancel(false);
then on action activity do the following
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager)getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.cancelAll();
if you want to set special condition you can set by
intent.putExtra("key", "value")
