I tried to speed up Android Studio by following some of the suggestions made in:
Android Studio is slow (how to speed up)?
Specifically, I changed build process heap size to 1021 and added -Xmx512m to the additional build process VM options. I restarted Android Studio and now am presented with this:
The screen gets stuck like this and doesn't change.
I have deleted the old Android studio installation and downloaded and Installed a new Android studio with no luck.
I had same issue, here is what I exactly did, I solved it by removing android studio with help of an uninstaller (iobit uninstaller actually) then I installed a new version of android studio in diffrent location/folder

I've been updating my project to target sdk-api28 and I started setting up the latest MaterialComponents, but I'm now having issues with the layout Previewer within Android Studio.
The Preview just won't display the correct design for the material components, eg. adding style="#style/Widget.MaterialComponents.TextInputLayout.OutlinedBox" on a TextInputLayout view won't change the design (no outlines) in the emulated preview, but it does look okay when running on a phone (got outlines).
Here's how it should and does look when running on phones:
But here's a screenshot of how it looks in the Android studio's Preview.
I'm having this issue on any project, and even on the Shrine tutorial app with the same setup from MDC Codelabs (MDC-103(Java) - Shrine).
This happens only on the preview. Any of these projects, when running on a phone or on the emulator within Studio, look okay.
As much as I could 'think through' this, the issue is I believe somehow connected to my Android Studio, emulator, or maybe build tools versions? Please, could someone point out if I'm missing something very simple?
My Android Studio (sdk, tools etc) versions that I have installed:
Android Studio 3.2.1
Android Emulator 28.0.16
Android Platform Version: API 28: Android 9 (Pie) revision 6
Android SDK Platform-Tools 28.0.1
Android SDK Tools 26.1.1
This issue happaned to me in android studio 3.2.
after one day everything gose fine.
what i do was invalidate and restart. reset android studio default settings
the clean. and exit android studio and open it again. and it works fine
this is a bug not related to you only.
While some users who experienced similar issues, could solve this with cleaning out Android Studio cache and config, this didn't work for me.
After looking into various possible fixes and tips, I solved this by updating to Android Studio 3.4 Canary which is the latest non-guaranteed-stable version of Android Studio, which you can get by either downloading a Preview release (here: developer.android.com) or changing your update preference (within Android Studio) ie. Update channel to Dev channel or Canary channel within Android Studio Settings > Appearance & Behaviour > System settings > Updates
I do think that this might not be a proper fix, but it's the only thing that worked out for me and solved the layout (design) preview not being able to display correct design.
If someone else runs into a similar issue, make sure to first try out clearing cache, using the Invalidate and restart under File menu or any other method. The Invalidate and restart feature clears out cache and restarts android studio, after which it will have to sync again and check for all dependencies, Sdk, tools etc.
Also to avoid this issue, before trying out anything else make sure you have proper and latest SDK Build-tools, Emulator, SDK Platform-tools, SDK Tools versions installed.
I'll leave this here as an answer for now, and update it if any new solutions come around.
Sorry, I'm here 3 years late... But this was my solution for this render problem... It has Material.Light theme by default. If you change it to Light.Bridge the problem is solved!
Hope it helps some one
Android Studio Doesn't Load the Preview Layout and there's no Error! but when I open an old project it loads that projects layouts.
I tried the older build tools and I also delete cache and stuff like that, I even removed entire android studio and reinstalled but it didn't fix it.
It seems to be happening since the fresh Windows 10 that I installed recently, and the the Android Studio V3.1.3.
Any solution?
I am trying to explore Xamarin, trying to create simple CURD project.
I was able to make some progress by watching youtube video's, but I am not sure what went wrong all of the sudden I am getting blank screen in my emulator when I am trying to deploy the project.
Firstly it showed me error stating
'the targetFrameWorkVersion is greater than my project version. You
need to increase the version for the project'.
I tried it, I increased my project version. This issue got resolved but gave birth new error.
Secondly
'To deploy this application, your deployment target should be running
Windows Universal Runtime version 10.0.16299.0 or higher. You
currently are running version 10.0.14393.2007. Please update your OS,
or change your deployment target to a device with the appropriate
version.'
I looked up for newer version of OS, but it seems my OS is already up to date.
I really appreciate if anyone help me out with tips or clue.
Environment is as follows
Visual Studio: 2017
Operating System: Windows 10
I am attaching ScreenShot of error
:
Try this
Set your android project as StartUp project
In your VS menu go to Build ->Configuration Manager
Uncheck the UWP project from both Build and Deploy, i hope your issue will be sorted.
first
its not your SDK, this is cause by old nugets in your project.
update all your nugets. at least xamarin.forms.dll
second
update your windows OS to latest. then
install appropriate microsft windows mobile sdk version. the link should appear when you right click your project and select install missing features

I updated to the latest Android Studio 3.0 version, and no matter what I do I cannot get a project to be properly recognized by Android Studio.
For one, Android Studio projects typically have the Android Studio icon instead of the typical folder icon in the file system, when browsing for a new project to open.
For two, this is what my project structure looks like - no modules, and I also cannot select "android" view instead of "project".
For three, I cannot run, build, or clean the project at all.
Sometimes when I open a project I get this error:
And sometimes that error doesn't show up at all.
Has anyone encountered this? I'm tried uninstalling Android Studio and re-installing it, installing the new 3.1 Canary 3 version, the stable version, nothing works. I've deleted and recloned every repository - I've tried many, big and small, and none work. I can compile fine from the command line though.
Many of these repos are used by other people currently using Android 3.0 stable and 3.0 Canary 3, and I'm the only one having issues, so I'm very certain it's not a repository issue. And if it is, I probably am not allowed to make whatever changes would be needed to fix this issue.
A co-worker is having this problem for second time with Android Studio (first time he just got tired and reinstalled Windows)
After a power failure while using Android Studio on Windows 7, it couldn't resolve symbols for all android classes anymore. SDK and JDK seem well configured and we even downgraded to JDK 7u75 in order to discard that he originally installed JDK 8.
SDK Manager works and shows all needed APIs installed.
When creating a new project it comes with the same problem and reinstalling Android Studio doesn't help either. When exporting the project and testing it in another computer it works correctly.
What could it be?
Android Studio caches a lot of details that won't be fixed by simply running a clean/rebuild on your code.
When facing any issues like this the first thing to do is often go to File -> Invalidate Cache/Restart and perform a full cache drop and restart.
