ViewPager like playstore - android

I am trying to make viewpager work like one in google playstore in movies,music,books section.
Below is screenshot of one:
This is screenshot of viewpager i want:
below is my xml code:
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:id="#+id/vp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="160dp"
android:layout_marginBottom="5dp">
</android.support.v4.view.ViewPager>
below is java code:
ViewPager vp;
int mResources[]= {R.drawable.b,R.drawable.c,R.drawable.d};
vp = (ViewPager)findViewById(R.id.vp);
vp.setPageMargin(-10);
vp.setAdapter(new ViewPageAdapter(ViewPagerActivity.this,mResources));
below is xml for single item:
<LinearLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:background="#eee"
android:layout_marginLeft="10dp"
android:layout_marginRight="10dp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="220dp">
<android.support.v7.widget.CardView
android:elevation="10dp"
app:cardCornerRadius="10dp"
android:layout_margin="10dp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="200dp">
<ImageView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:scaleType="fitXY"
android:src="#drawable/c"
android:id="#+id/imageView" />
</android.support.v7.widget.CardView>
Thanks in advance for help

If I'm not mistaken, you want a ViewPager whose next/previous items partly showing.
If so, set minus page margin to the viewPager by ViewPager.setPageMargin(int), and add (positive) margins to each item's left and right.
I hope it'll help you.

You should use RecyclerView with LinearLayoutManager with a horizontal orientation. This post should answer your question. ViewPager is typically used in conjunction with entire fragments as opposed to scrolling components within those fragments according to the documentation.

RecyclerView containing CardView's won't scroll (not in focus?) unless after clicked once

My RecyclerView contains a list of CardView
xml for MainActivity:
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar/>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView>
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/view_recycler"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior">
</android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView>
</android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView>
<FloatingActionButton/>
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
I use an adapter for the RecyclerView above to contain the Cards.
xml used to inflate ViewHolder inside the adapter:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:card_view="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:id="#+id/relativeLayout"
android:paddingTop="2dp"
android:paddingRight="2dp"
android:paddingLeft="2dp"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:descendantFocusability="blocksDescendants">
<android.support.v7.widget.CardView
android:id="#+id/cardview"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:foreground="?android:attr/selectableItemBackground"
card_view:cardBackgroundColor="#android:color/holo_red_light"
card_view:cardPreventCornerOverlap="true"
card_view:cardCornerRadius="2dp"
card_view:cardElevation="3dp"
card_view:contentPadding="7dp"
card_view:cardUseCompatPadding="true">
<RelativeLayout
android:id="#+id/relat"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:focusable="true"
android:focusableInTouchMode="false"
android:padding="10dp">
<TextView/>
//...
</RelativeLayout>
</android.support.v7.widget.CardView>
</RelativeLayout>
To make the Cards clickable, I tried all solutions in these - two popular posts , but I always have this weird bug:
The list of Cards won't scroll when I start the app for the first time, unless I click on the RecyclerView once. It's as if the RecyclerView is not in focus initially.
Also, if I get rid of all click listeners or similar ways to make the CardView's clickable, and only keep the focusable code in xml:
android:focusable="true"
android:focusableInTouchMode="false"
, then it does scroll right away, but as soon as I add any click (listener) mechanism, or even include "android:clickable="true"" for the ViewHolder, that bug re-emerges.
Please advise. Thank you
You should never nest a RecyclerView inside a ScrollView. Just remove the NestedScrollView and the RecyclerView should take care of its scrolling behavoiur.
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar/>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/view_recycler"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior">
</android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView>
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
Turns out the scrolling issue is not related to the RecyclerView. It was due to an open source widget I used which anchored to the RV and somehow interfered with the focusing/scrolling/touch interception. Finally got rid of this bug after days of looking elsewhere..
thank you all the same

Android Custom TabLayout: Icon overlays content

I'm looking for a custom TabLayout. The icon of the Tab in the middle needs a margin to overlay the content. Please check out the image below.
What I've tried so far
Tab.setCustomView() with a margin. That doesn't overlay the content though.
Looked for TabLayout libraries that give such flexibility. Didn't find anything that fits my need.
Re-invent the wheel?
Since I don't need any complicated scrolling functionality, I could develop my own TabLayout with a couple ViewGroups,TextView and ImageView. Before I have to do that:
Do you know of any library that would do that?
How would you approach it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I achieved that by the combination of a custom library and the floating action button.
The library: MagicIndicator on GitHub
I set the icon of the middle fragment to an empty icon and positioned the floating action button in the middle to overlay the TabLayout. It looks like this:
My activity layout:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/main_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
tools:context=".MainActivity">
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_gravity="top"
android:layout_marginBottom="50dp"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_behavior" />
<net.lucode.hackware.magicindicator.MagicIndicator
android:id="#+id/magic_indicator"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="50dp"
android:background="#color/light_gray"
android:layout_gravity="bottom" />
<android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton
android:id="#+id/fab"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center|bottom"
android:layout_margin="10dp"
app:srcCompat="#drawable/add_icon"
app:backgroundTint="#color/colorPrimary"/>
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>

Translating view and viewpager's fragments

I have a little strange problem for me. I need to translate view which is located over a viewpager on recyclerview scroll. RecyclerView is located in fragment and fragments are located in viewpager. When I scroll recyclerview in fragment and want to translate View which is located over viewpager my problem occurs. ViewPager is moving up to fill space left by translated view, but fragments aren't. Because of it I can see space empty space on viewpager. I checked it by setting viewpager background and i saw that viewpager actually resized to match container but fragments remained still. Any ideas how to force it to works as it should be? This code works perfectly when recyclerview and view which I want to resize are on same fragment.
Issue look like this http://i.imgur.com/wyxXGYh.png
Layout look like this
ViewPagerFragment
<FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:clipToPadding="false">
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/subcategory_fragment_recycle_view"
android:scrollbars="vertical"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
</android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView>
Layout with Viewpager
<FrameLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_below="#id/fragment_category_sliding_tab_layout">
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/fragment_category_viewpager"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:paddingTop="100dp"
android:clipToPadding="false"
android:background="#0000FF"
android:animateLayoutChanges="true">
</android.support.v4.view.ViewPager>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/scrollTemp"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="100dp"
android:background="#FF0000"
android:gravity="center|center_vertical"
android:text="TEMP"
android:textSize="40dp" />
</FrameLayout>
For detecting scrollevents and triggering show/hide of temp view I am using basically this HidingScrollListener https://mzgreen.github.io/2015/02/28/How-to-hideshow-Toolbar-when-list-is-scrolling%28part2%29/. As I said it works perfectly when recyclerview and view which I want to scroll are on same fragment.

How to overlay Android ViewPagerIndicator on Page viewer?

I have implemented the JakeWharton Android-ViewPagerIndicator. I have shared my screens.
This is a two part question: -
1) I want to put the Page Indicator over the Page Viewer. That is the page viewer should be full screen and the Circular Page indicator must fall on this. I making a tutorial for an app and want to use this. It is similar to the Vine app tutorial. I have tried using FrameLayout and RelativeLayout but not able to achieve this.
This is my code and screen shot:
ViewPager_main.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:id="#+id/pager"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1" />
<com.viewpagerindicator.UnderlinePageIndicator
android:id="#+id/indicator"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="5dp" />
</LinearLayout>
MainActivity.java
viewPager = (ViewPager) findViewById(R.id.pager);
adapter = new ViewPagerAdapter(MainActivity.this, rank, country,
population, flag);
viewPager.setAdapter(adapter);
mIndicator = (UnderlinePageIndicator) findViewById(R.id.indicator);
mIndicator.setFades(false);
mIndicator.setViewPager(viewPager);
2) I want to disable Swipe Left that is I want to move forward only not backward. How do I do this. I tried modifying the circularpageindicator class by checking the previous page number and the current page number. If the previous page number is > that current then i don't do anything. This worked for the Indicator but the page viewer still moves.
Try this to put Indicator overlay on ViewPager
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<RelativeLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<android.support.v4.view.ViewPager
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="240dp"
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:id="#+id/pager"/>
<com.viewpagerindicator.UnderlinePageIndicator
android:id="#+id/indicator"
android:padding="5dip"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:layout_marginBottom="4dp"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"/>
</RelativeLayout>
If you want to put Indicator on top instead bottom, change
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:layout_marginBottom="4dp"
to
android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
android:layout_marginTop="4dp"
Hope this help.

android fragment listview shows items partially

I have an activity with the associated activity.xml code:
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:background="#drawable/pattern_background"
android:orientation="vertical" >
<ScrollView
android:id="#+id/scrollView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_marginBottom="5dp"
android:layout_weight="1"
android:clickable="false" >
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical" >
...
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/llComments"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical" />
<TextView
android:id="#+id/textView1"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:text="TextView" />
</LinearLayout>
</ScrollView>
<include
android:id="#+id/layoutComments"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
layout="#layout/widget_comentarios_fragment" >
</include>
In the LinearLayout with id llComments I introduce a fragment called CommentsFragment dynamically from the activity with the following code:
private Fragment commentsFragment;
private FragmentTransaction ft;
...
llComentarios = (LinearLayout) findViewById(R.id.llComments);
...
Bundle args = new Bundle();
args.putString(Constants.IDMODEL, getId());
commentsFragment = CommentsFragment.newInstance(args);
ft = getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction();
ft.add(R.id.llComments, commentsFragment).commit();
The Fragment associated xml file is:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<ListView
android:id="#+id/comments"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:divider="#color/transparent"
android:dividerHeight="10dp"
android:paddingLeft="#dimen/indicator_internal_padding"
android:paddingRight="#dimen/indicator_internal_padding" />
</LinearLayout>
The problem I cannot solve is to show in the activity more than one item (in fact I am showing one and a third items) in the list if I do not fix a height for the listview.It should adapt to as many items I add to the list in the fragment through the adapter. I have tried different combinations of heights in the layouts and views, but still does not work. Maybe I am annulating one with other.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
After some days I find out the exact problem. I was including a ListView into a ScrollView, and that's clearly not recomended by Android developers.
You can look for further info here: Why ListView cannot be used in a ScrollView?
Anyway, if you want to do it, you can do that with a hack. Take a look at these proposals:
How can I put a ListView into a ScrollView without it collapsing?
For me that worked. Problem solved.
