Toolbar in non-AppCompat project not inflating - android

I tried to implement my toolbar with my activity but it's not inflating and keeps showing an error. My project does not use AppCompat but I'm not sure whether or not that is also the vause of the error.

incomprehensible behavior of attribute app:elevation

I wonder why such a strange behavior in the app attribute: elevation = "0dp" and how to solve the problem. I use the androidx library. The toolbar is transparent. Shadow remains. When I write an app: elevation = "0dp", the shadow disappears, but the toolbar buttons, including the "back" buttons, stop responding.
I tried to solve it in other ways: android: elevation = "0dp"

This is just because you have used FrameLayout as a parent - and also removed elevation from AppBarLayout, and due to this, Your ScrollView is overlapping your AppBarLayout as it is written below AppBarLayout. change your root to something else, for eg.

Add Toolbar/Actionbar to PreferenceActivity

I am trying to add a toolbar to my PreferenceActivity.
I have looked around here and a number of places and nothing seems to work.
I am using headers for my top-level.
I tried to then use my own layout in onCreate including the required toolbar and making sure it has a view by the name of "#android:id/list".

This worked okay for the top level but then the next level failed looking for a view name "android:id/prefs".

You can use PreferenceFragmentCompat wrapped in a normal AppCompatActivity. Then you can easily attach an appbar to your activity using
setContentView(R.layout.activity_setting);
and preferences can be set to the fragment using
setPreferencesFromResource(R.xml.preferences_button_interaction, rootKey);

FAB not moving down on Snackbar dismiss

On my phone and that of a friend, the FAB in the default Android Studio Activity does not move down after the Snackbar dismisses.
On the emulator and a few other friends' phones, it does animate down.
The first friend and I have changed animation scale to 0.5, but setting it to 1.0 and rebooting hasn't fixed the issue.
This should have been fixed in Design Support Library 23.2.0, and I am using 23.3.0, as the example comes with that set.

How to set a toolbar in a List Activity?

The code compiles fine, but no list is shown.
ListActivity is a "convenience" class to implement a simple ListView. And that's pretty much all you can do. So, there's no setSupportActionBar(Toolbar) there.
To achieve what you want, use AppCompatActivity or default Activity.
This link provides a nice tutorial on how to use the new ToolBar instead of the old ActionBar.

What did I do?
Your LinearLayout was lacking the orientation parameter on the XML, and your TextView had a android:layout_height set to match_parent, so it was filling the entire layout. I've changed it to wrap_content and you're good to go.
setSupportActionBar(toolbar) is not available in ListActivity. You can use AppCompatActivity instead and just get a reference to the listview:
ListView list = findViewById(R.id.list); and use list.setAdapter(adapter) instead of setListAdapter(adapter);
You can't do that in ListActivity.
If you want to access getSupportActionBar(), you need to extent your class by AppCompatActivity.
My Suggestion : Don`t use ListActivty is you want to use ToolBar. Create an Activity and then only have ListView within that Activity. It'll work just fine.

You can use the new AppCompatDelegate component provided by the Support Library to easily add a Toolbar to your ListActivity.
