I have a spinner with bottom line
<Spinner
style="#style/Base.Widget.AppCompat.Spinner.Underlined"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
/>
But when I change a arrow icon apliyng the new style
<style name="SpinnerTheme" parent="Base.Widget.AppCompat.Spinner.Underlined">
<item name="android:background">#drawable/spinner_arrow</item>
</style>
My bottom line disappears.
How to change arrow icon and keep bottom line?
Thanks Ĝüptå Šhãsĥwæt for a answer, here is a full working drawable for API 21+

How can I change the indicator width?
<size android:height="#dimen/_5fdp" android:width="#dimen/_10fdp"/> // tried and not working
You can tackle this by designating the desired width in your drawable and use a center or center_horizontal gravity besides the top:
For API Level 23+:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_checked="true">
<layer-list>
<item android:width="50dp" android:gravity="top|center_horizontal">
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<size android:height="#dimen/_5fdp" />
<solid android:color="#color/red" />
<corners android:bottomLeftRadius="#dimen/_3fdp" android:bottomRightRadius="#dimen/_3fdp" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
</item>
</selector>
UPDATE:
The down side of the above is that the android:width is available at API level 23. But you can use it within the <size> tag to be available on any API level, and the result is the same:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_checked="true">
<layer-list>
<item android:gravity="top|center_horizontal">
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<size android:width="50dp" android:height="#dimen/_5fdp" />
<solid android:color="#color/red" />
<corners android:bottomLeftRadius="#dimen/_3fdp" android:bottomRightRadius="#dimen/_3fdp" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
</item>
</selector>

I have spinner with dropdown arrow and under line and it's works well if I set same color for dropdown arrow and under line.
I set color with android:backgroundTint="#FFFFFF"
Refer my code below
<Spinner
android:id="#+id/spinnerPriority"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:backgroundTint="#FFFFFF" />
and selector
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
<layer-list>
<item
android:left="-2dp"
android:right="-2dp"
android:top="-2dp">
<shape>
<stroke
android:width="1dp" />
</shape>
</item>
<item>
<bitmap android:gravity="center_vertical|right"
android:src="#drawable/ic_arrow_down" />
</item>
</layer-list>
</item>
</selector>
How I can set different color for dropdown arrow and under line in spinner?
try this below code my friend it will help you
<layer-list>
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle" >
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" />
<!-- background color of box -->
</shape>
</item>
<item
android:left="-2dp"
android:right="-2dp"
android:top="-2dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#ff00" />
<!-- color of stroke -->
</shape>
</item>
<item android:right="5dp">
<bitmap android:gravity="center_vertical|right" android:src="#drawable/arrow" />
</item>
</layer-list>
List item
my code is in the style
this is inside the style.xml
<style name="SpinnerTheme">
<item name="android:background" >#drawable/bg_spinner</item>
</style>
bg_spinner.xml
<item>
<layer-list>
<item >
<bitmap android:gravity="bottom" android:src="#drawable/under_line" />
</item>
<item android:right="5dp">
<bitmap android:gravity="center_vertical|right" android:src="#drawable/dropdown" />
</item>
</layer-list>
</item>
<Spinner
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
style="#style/SpinnerTheme"
android:layout_marginTop="15dp"
android:hint="Sex"
android:id="#+id/spinnerSex" />
date,month and year are in full width,and background image also less width, but when it comes sex its not showing full width.
i need the under line in sex full width, please do the needfull
You can draw line by xml code. like below
<item >
<layer-list>
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle" >
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" />
<!-- background color of box -->
</shape>
</item>
<item
android:left="-2dp"
android:right="-2dp"
android:top="-2dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#323232" />
<!-- color of stroke -->
</shape>
</item>
<item android:right="5dp">
<bitmap android:gravity="center_vertical|right" android:src="#drawable/downlarrow" />
</item>
</layer-list>
</item>
output looks something like this
replace your xml code with this code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<!-- Draw a 2dp width border around shape -->
<stroke
android:color="#000000"
android:width="2dp"
/>
</shape>
</item>
<!-- Overlap the left, top and right border using background color -->
<item
android:bottom="2dp"
>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#ffffff"/>
</shape>
</item>
Full XML Code is:
Keep below code in your drawable directory. File name can be like this: "bg_spinner.xml"
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
<layer-list>
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" />
<!-- background color of box -->
</shape>
</item>
<item android:left="-2dp" android:right="-2dp" android:top="-2dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" />
<stroke android:width="1dp" android:color="#323232" />
<!-- color of stroke -->
</shape>
</item>
<item android:right="5dp">
<bitmap android:gravity="center_vertical|right" android:src="#mipmap/arrow_down" />
</item>
</layer-list>
</item>
</selector>
In above code change bitmap src to your arrow image from drawable or mipmap directory. You can take nice arrow from "File -> New -> Vector Asset"
In your style.xml file keep below code:
<style name="SpinnerLineTheme" parent="android:Widget.Spinner">
<item name="android:background">#drawable/bg_spinner</item>
<item name="android:elevation">0dp</item>
<item name="android:popupBackground">#color/colorWhite</item>
</style>
And call the theme from spinner like below:
<Spinner
android:id="#+id/mySpinner"
style="#style/SpinnerLineTheme"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:backgroundTint="#color/colorWhite"
android:dropDownWidth="300dp"
android:dropDownVerticalOffset="60dp"
android:gravity="start"
android:paddingEnd="30dp"
android:spinnerMode="dropdown" />
PS: Inspired by #Jayanth answer, as edit request queue is full.
hello all i need to remove the edittext default style i want to remove the selected portion from both the side on focus of edittext or on normal edittext i just want the simple black line on normal edittext and blue line on focus
I have created 1 xml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_pressed="true"><shape android:shape="line">
<!-- Draw a 2dp width border around shape -->
<stroke android:width="1dp" android:color="#color/blue" />
</shape>
<!-- Overlap the left, top and right border using background color -->
<item
android:bottom="1dp"
>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#color/white"/>
</shape>
</item> <!-- pressed -->
</item>
<item android:state_focused="true"><shape android:shape="rectangle">
<!-- Draw a 2dp width border around shape -->
<stroke android:width="1dp" android:color="#color/blue" />
</shape></item>
<!-- focused -->
<item><shape android:shape="rectangle">
<!-- Draw a 2dp width border around shape -->
<stroke android:width="1dp" android:color="#color/orange" />
</shape></item>
<!-- default -->
</selector>
but it giving me RECTANGLE i just want LINE #bottom
Create the new xml file inside drawable folder.
lets say
a.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" /> <!--background color of box-->
</shape>
</item>
<item
android:top="-2dp"
android:right="-2dp"
android:left="-2dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="<Focus color>" /> <!-- color of stroke -->
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
Create another new xml file in drawable, lets say
b.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" /> <!--background color of box-->
</shape>
</item>
<item
android:top="-2dp"
android:right="-2dp"
android:left="-2dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#8AC42F" /> <!-- color of stroke -->
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
Create another new xml file in drawable.
lets say
c.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
<item android:state_focused="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/a"></item>
<item android:drawable="#drawable/b">
</item>
</selector>
Try this code.
this is a selector file. it has to be made background to the edittext.
selector automatically switches between two drawable file acording to its (edittext's) state.
Using This EditText
<EditText
android:id="#+id/id_Login_emal_et"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_margin="5dp"
android:background="#drawable/c"
android:ems="10"
android:padding="10dip"
android:hint="Email"
android:inputType="textEmailAddress"
>
Use properties that define color for edit text that is colorControlActivated, colorControlHighlight and colorControlNormal in your app theme for style.xml.
<style name="Theme.App.Base" parent="Theme.AppCompat.Light.DarkActionBar">
<item name="colorControlNormal">#color/blackColor</item>
<item name="colorControlActivated">#color/blueColor</item>
<item name="colorControlHighlight">#color/blueColor</item>
</style>
Use Selector for different edittext states:
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item android:state_window_focused="false" android:state_enabled="true"
android:drawable="#drawable/twitter_im_edittext_normal" />
<item android:state_window_focused="false" android:state_enabled="false"
android:drawable="#drawable/twitter_im_edittext_normal" />
<item android:state_pressed="true" android:drawable="#drawable/twitter_im_edittext_normal" />
<item android:state_enabled="true" android:state_focused="true" android:drawable="#drawable/twitter_im_edittext_focused" />
<item android:state_enabled="true" android:drawable="#drawable/twitter_im_edittext_normal" />
<item android:state_focused="true" android:drawable="#drawable/twitter_im_edittext_focused" />
<item android:drawable="#drawable/twitter_im_edittext_normal" />
</selector>
and your drawable would be as Jayanth sample:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" /> <!--background color of box-->
</shape>
</item>
<item
android:top="-2dp"
android:right="-2dp"
android:left="-2dp">
<shape>
<solid android:color="#android:color/transparent" />
<stroke
android:width="1dp"
android:color="#8AC42F" /> <!-- color of stroke -->
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
Try this code:
edit_text.xml
<EditText
android:layout_width="40dp"
android:layout_height="40dp"
android:id="#+id/edit_text"
android:background="#drawable/custom_edit_text_black_line"
/>
Put the Xml file in Drawable Folder (custom_edit_text_black_line.xml)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#android:color/black" />
</shape>
</item>
<item android:bottom="2dp">
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#ffffff" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
Put the Xml file in Drawable Folder (custom_edit_text_blue_line.xml)
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#color/colorPrimaryDark" />
</shape>
</item>
<item android:bottom="2dp">
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#ffffff" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
And in Activity write the below code :
edit_text.setOnFocusChangeListener(new View.OnFocusChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onFocusChange(View v, boolean hasFocus) {
if(hasFocus){
edit_text.setBackground(MainActivity.this.getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.custom_edit_text_blue_line));
} else{
edit_text.setBackground(MainActivity.this.getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.custom_edit_text_black_line));
}
}
});
On screenshot you can see src image is at same position on both states.
I want move image down in pressed state.
layout
<ImageButton
android:id="#+id/button"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#drawable/my_button"
android:src="#drawable/image" />
my_button.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
<item android:state_pressed="true" >
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<!-- Top 1dp Shadow -->
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#248349" />
<corners android:radius="7dp" />
</shape>
</item>
<!-- Light bottom color -->
<item android:top="1dp">
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#2AB564" />
<corners android:radius="7dp" />
<stroke android:width="1px" android:color="#248349"/>
<padding
android:top="28dp"
android:bottom="36dp" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
</item>
<item>
<layer-list xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android">
<!-- Bottom 3dp Shadow -->
<item>
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#22A863" />
<corners android:radius="7dp" />
</shape>
</item>
<!-- Light top color -->
<item android:bottom="3dp">
<shape android:shape="rectangle">
<solid android:color="#2DCC70" />
<corners android:radius="7dp" />
<stroke android:width="1px" android:color="#22A863"/>
<padding
android:top="36dp"
android:bottom="28dp" />
</shape>
</item>
</layer-list>
</item>
</selector>
As you can see, I tried set padding android:top="36dp" android:bottom="28dp" and for pressed state android:top="28dp" android:bottom="36dp", but its same as without padding :/
What you need to do is to change the image drawable instead of the background. You can create a selector for it, and assign it a custom gravity based on it's pressed state:
<selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" >
<item android:state_pressed="true" >
<bitmap
android:src="#drawable/image"
android:gravity="bottom|center_vertical" />
</item>
<item>
<bitmap
android:src="#drawable/image"
android:gravity="center" />
</item>
</selector>
Set the scaletype of the ImageButton to fitXY, assign it a minimum width and height, and remove or modify the padding from the background, and it should work.
