I've just installed VS 2017 with Xamarin Forms and have created my first MVVM app which works fine through the android emulator. But now I'd like to deploy this app to my own device (Samsung S7 - Android version 7).
For some unknown reason my VS cannot find my device - it's plugged directly into one of the laptops USB ports, developer mode is switched on as well as the USB debugging setting. I've installed drivers as well.
Hopefully you can see that image which shows a list of vs emulators for android on VS. All of which are API23 (Android v 6) - could this have something to do with the fact that my v7 device is not showing? I have API26 installed now which is for v7 of Android - still not showing..
Any ideas??
Try this:
change USB Connection mode MTP<->PTP

I've upgraded my Google Pixel to Android 9.0/Pie.
When I try to run an application from Android studio I don't see the Google Pixel in the list, there's only a null device named FA69R0306649. When I run my application, Android studio tries to install the app but then fails.
It looks like Android Studio is not recognizing the phone anymore. It Worked perfectly fine a couple of hours ago under Oreo (8.x).
Also, if I deploy the app on google play as alpha and then download it runs perfectly under 9.0/Pie.
Any suggestions to get the run/debug working with android 9.0 phone under Android Studio (3.1.4)?
The Pixel running 9.0 requires USB 2.0 high speed.
Apparently the Pixel running Android Pie cannot talk to the PC using neither USB 3.0 nor USB 1.1 full speed nor USB 2.0 running at full speed.
I had a similar problem with my Xiaomi Mi A1. When I upgraded from Android 8.1 to 9 Android Studio would hang on "Installing application" forever.
After trying revoking USB debugging authorization and completely reenabling developer options with no success it turned out a simple restart did it.
Looks like there are multiple issues that lead to the same problem.
I had the same issue with a Xiaomi Mi A2 after upgrading to Android 9. If you are using Linux, try adding the udev permissions manually, following the steps described here. In my case, that was the only solution that worked.
Please re-enable developer options again after the OS version upgrade, the device name will appear and it will be working fine again
Install Sdk Platforms of Android 9. In Android studio Top Right besides Search Icon.Press That Icon of SDK manager and look either sdk platform is updated and installed.
A simple solution just go to your Developer option on your phone , right below the USB Debugging option it says to "install via USB" just enable it and you are all set to install an app through android studio into your 9.0 device.
I have Visual Studio 2015 Community Edition with Xamarin inside Windows 7 Virtual Machine. I have my android device connected to the physical machine and Yes the android phone is recognized in the Virtual Machine, since it's shown in the My Computer of Virtual Machine, and also displayed in Other devices under Device Manager.
When I created Cross-Platform Blank App (Native Portable) project in VS2015 and Set App.Droid as startup Project, I can't see my phone. What am I missing?
Check unsupported devices under list of devices to run (or it is just Start button if you don't have any devices). If your phone is there that means your project has higher API level as Minimum target than the phone's API.
If phone is not even in that list then
Check on the phone if Developer mode is enabled and inside you have
USB debugging enabled
Stay awake

I am new to android studio and have been having trouble connecting my tablet to android studio so i can test my apps. My tablet is an filemate x2 that runs on android 4.4.2 and i've changed android studio to 4.4.2 from 6.0 . My computer im using is too old so i cant run a virtual machine because of multiple issues(intel HAXM, etc) but i run on windows 7. Its an off brand tablet and i tried to find the OEM driver and thought i found something like it on Wintec(filemate's company) website but it didnt work. anyone have any ideas?
Many times it will not recognize the device and because of driver issues, the device won't show up.
go to settings -> control panel -> hardware and sound -> device manager
check for any devices showing an error. Many androids will show as an unknown USB device.
try to update the drivers for it.
Hope this helps.
I have a cheap DOPO model EM63 tablet that I would like to play around with in Android Studio. I put the device in developer mode and I made sure enable usb debugging was enabled. When I plug the device in, It does not appear in Android Studio. I plugged in my phone and enabled debugging and I can see the phone. Do I need to download a driver? What steps should I take to resolve my issue ?
I am running Windows 8.1 on the laptop. The Android has 4.2.2.
install kies from here:

its working for me.
Recently I got my first Android smartphone - ZTE Blade III and want to start learning it. I've downloaded Android Studio for Windows, created basic "Hello World" app, tried to run it on the phone and here I encountered a problem - Adroid Studio doesn't see my device.

I followed this guide. I installed ZTE USB driver, enabled USB debugging on my phone and set targetSdkVersion to match Android version of device (I have Android 4.0.4, so I set it to 15), but Android Studio still doesn't see the device.
Any suggestions?
Have you opened up the: /path/to/android/sdk/tools/android Android SDK download tool and installed "Google USB Driver" under the "Extras" folder? (Required for Windows. Screenshot from Linux computer)
I found the solution.
I had to enable Windows Update and set Windows auto driver download function to always on, like in this guide: http://zteblade3.com/zte-blade-3-install-a-custom-jelly-bean-rom-ics-rom-from-scratch/install-the-usb-drivers/
