Android Studio SDK is missing

I had a USB connection problem when I debug and updated BIOS then, the laptop had problem with drive so, I needed to recover it. So, I recovered it with removing all the applications and just kept my personal files.
And I downloaded and installed Android Studio again, and SDK missing problem occurred like below:
I can't see 'SDK' when I install Android Studio from here. So, I can't select any.
I tried with SDK Manager. I can't install any versions with "Your Android SDK is missing, out of date, or corupted." error.
I tried Update. But nothing changed. (Updated to 3.3.1, but failed to Sync SDKs ERROR.)
Some people on Stack-overflow suggested to download SDK separately, but their links just show Android Studio installer, which I already installed. Maybe the links were so old.
"C:\Users\XXX\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk" does not exists.
I uninstalled Android Studio include User setting and reinstalled it.(There is no such thing that I can select previous version kind of thing.) But the result is the same.

TL;DR This is sometimes caused by Windows registry settings retained with the current AndroidStudio project. To fix, just startup Android Studio and then close the current project (File -> Close Project). If this was the problem, AS will now go into a long update and restart cycle to repair itself, but will end with success.
I also recommend that you then change AS settings to not open the last project on Startup (Settings -> System Settings -> Reopen projects on startup)
Windows 10, Android Studio v3.6 and v4.0.
This one drove me nuts! I had the same problem - my SDK seemed to be corrupt so I did a full Uninstall (v3.6) and Install (4.0) of Android Studio and when Android Studio started up I got the same message Android SDK is missing.
The SDK Manager in Tools wasn't working.
I went to the link and there was nothing to download the SDK. So I installed the file which looked a bit like the SDK, commandlinetools-win-6514223_latest.zip, unzipped, and then tried to use the missing SDK dialog to include it in AS, and no joy.
BUT - I noticed that after an uninstall and fresh install Android Studio still came up with the last project I was working on so I guessed it must be something in the windows registry (rather than AS settings). I closed that project and AS suddenly popped up a dialog to install the SDK!
After a big download and install, Android Studio returned with the SDK (and SDK manager) all functioning!
So - just startup Android Studio and then close the current project (File -> Close Project)!
How I did a complete re-install.
Uncheck the "Keep Settings" (or similar) option in the Uninstall dialog, but export your settings first (File -> Export Settings). I found it easy to: Export settings; Complete Uninstall; Download and Install; Import Settings;. But, or course, there were several massive downloads. Still don't know why the last open file came up after the fresh install. It's probably in the registry, so, if there are still problems then you'll have to clear AS from the registry as well. Which sounds painful.

If android sdk is deleted, go to :
SDK manager -> edit -> next ..

I solved this problem with connecting android-sdk folder in C drive.
I reinstalled my OS. But hopefully, I kept my personal folders. So, I could find that folder.
However, If you don't have SDK folder, you may need to install SDK by yourself.

Android Studio - 3.0: COMPONENT INSTALLER FAILED

I am new to Android Studio.
Now, when I start a new project it successfully runs. But on the top, right below the tabs it shows an error.
Gradle project sync failed. Basic functionality will not work properly
Then I figure out the solution to by installing the required component from the message view:
Clicked on "Install Build Tools 26.0.2 and sync project
After trying to install the component, it shows me an error:
An error occurred during installation: Failed to move away or delete existing file
PLEASE HELP.

Why don't you just delete the folder below?
C:\Users\???\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\build-tools\26.0.2
It seems that your android studio doesn't have permission to delete.

Even though this is not a your original question, but...
If you doesn't have permission to access the folder, try this:
Goto parent folder of the folder you want to delete.
Right click the folder and select properties
Click secutity tab - Click advanced - Click owner
Click edit - Select user (your name) - Click apply
And you can delete the folder.

Run Android Studio as Administrator. Although I have local admin rights, updates failed and have since day 1, even on older versions too. On older versions running as admin didn't fix the problem, I did manual updates. Today I discovered that with 3.0 running as admin works great.
If you have a desktop icon, go to properties>Shortcut>Advanced and check "Run as Administrator". Now every time you run from the shortcut, you will run as administrator. At least it fixed my problems.

How to open AVD manager in Android Studio 3.0 version?

after I update Android Studio from 2.3 to 3.0 version. I can not find AVD Manager in Tools/Android/AVD Manager.

I just did a fresh install and had the same issue. Solved by:
Click "Install missing platforms(s)..." in the highlighted error:
Then after the download/install, click "Intall Build Tools...":
Then after the download/install, you will see Android under Tools menu

If you have never used Android Studio Before, and do not have a Project
..Opening the AVD Manager is even trickier!!
For example, if you are installing it to use an emulator for a create-react-native-app project., but aren't otherwise using Android Studio to write or manage your app.
Here is how you can gain access to the AVD Manager.
AVD Manager is required to set-up your emulators.
Android Studio Documentation does NOT tell you how to gain access to AVD Manager. It starts at Open the AVD Manager!
I Just Need the emulator (and manager).
But I did not even have the window the OP refers to.
Nothing in the Configure menu, not Preferences (even Preferences -> Tools) gave me access to AVD Manager.
So in my case it was even more confusing to have No Direct Access AVD Manager !
Nor did I have an android folder in my create-react-native-app app, so hamdi's answer above did not work for me.
All I had was a new folder/git repo from:
create-react-native-app
My Solution
On the Android Studio Startup Screen, I choose:
Import Android Code Sample
Then choose any sample. (I choose the first example listed).
Then (after a bunch of downloading/building..), then brought up the window the OP refers to.
I then had to update gradle, as mentioned by user1449542's post above.
At that point, Muhammad Hannan's answer above was helpful !!!
I clicked the icon from the bottom image in his post -- vioa!
( Alternatively from the menu bar choose: Tools -> AVD Manager )
Better Solution:
I have since realized that the Startup Screen Option:
Start a new Android Studio Project
also works and is even quicker (less to download/build), and might not even need gradle file updates (mentioned by another post) that I had to do when I downloaded a sample project.
Just use the default settings to create a dummy project in the default location, and choose
Add No Activity.
Android Studio will "build" this dummy project, and set it up, then open the Window you need to access said icon, and/or menu bar.
In the future, this dummy project will appear on the left of Android Studio's Startup Screen.
Just click on that dummy project to re-open the window you need to access AVD Manager.
Then, as before, click that icon (or from the menu bar choose: Tools -> AVD Manager) to create/edit AVD emulators.
If you're using React Native (create react native app), you can start an emulator from the command line, once you have created an AVD emulator, and probably won't need to open Android Studio itself. (see notes below).
Be sure to start the emulator before choosing a (from the terminal window that's running your app via yarn start).
Additional Notes for reference:
To start the emulator from the command line:
emulator -avd <avd_emulator_name>
To list what emulators have been configured:
emulator -list-avds
AVD_Nexus_6P_API_23
AVD_Pixel_2_XL_API_27
AVD_Pixel_XL_API_25
So, for example, I can do this:
emulator -avd AVD_Pixel_2_XL_API_27
Additional Information
I also had to add the following lines to my .bash_profile
export JAVA_HOME=`/usr/libexec/java_home -v 10`
Note: the value between the back-ticks is what the JAVA install from my terminal replied. If you type that part into terminal by itself, it spits out the location Java was installed. If you have an different version of Java installed, just replace 10 with your version.
I then got the following path from:
- Android Studio Startup Screen -> Configure -> SDK ManagerPreferences
- Appearance & Behavior -> System Settings -> Android SDK
- Android SDK Location: /Users/sherylhohman/Library/Android/sdk
and used it as the value for adding the following line
export ANDROID_HOME=/Users/sherylhohman/Library/Android/sdk
Though I chose to write it as the following instead:
export ANDROID_HOME=$HOME/Library/Android/sdk
Finally I added:
PATH=$PATH:$ANDROID_HOME/emulator
PATH=$PATH:$ANDROID_HOME/tools
PATH=$PATH:$ANDROID_HOME/platform-tools
PATH=$PATH:$ANDROID_HOME/tools/bin
PATH=$PATH:$ANDROID_HOME/platform-tools/adb
export PATH
I may not have needed the ...adb or 1 or more of the last PATH entries.
This was a cumulation of many internet searches, many conflicting solutions. The major missing key was accessing AVD Manager (OP's question), which finally solved the problem. This just happens to be the items I had already added to my .batch_profile along the way trying to get the android emulator working inside my create-react-native-app App!.

I found this just under the toolbar in Android Studio (v3.2):

Go to the "Event Log" tab in the bottom right corner.
There will probably be some error messages. It will provide information and links to resolve the problem. Then the buttons will not be greyed out anymore.

I'm using Android Studio 3.0 on Ubuntu I have AVD under Tools > Android > AVD . And also on the right upper corner of the screen.

Go to Settings and search for AVD.

If you encountered the problem when using React Native, you are probably trying to include the whole project in Android Studio. You only have to include the android folder from the React Native project. After this process, Gradle will be synchronized and AVD Manager will come back.

I had the same problem.
If you get this message: "Frameworks detected: Android framework is detected in the project" then click on it and add Android.
After that, the icons should be enabled now.

you can find SDK manager,AVD manager TOP right side on android studio version more than 3.2.0.
and if you want to run via commmand promat you can go to
cd Library/Android/sdk/tools/bin
./avdmanager list

I had the same issue in Windows 10 and saw this solution in another post ... It worked for me.
Set-up the System Environmental Variables ANDROID_HOME and ANDROID_SDK_ROOT
To do this ...
Click the windows key and start typing System.
Select it when it pops up in the menu.
Click advanced system settings
Select the advanced tab
Click Environmental Variables at the bottom
Under system variables, click new
Enter the variable name
For value, enter the the path to the Android SDK, which will most likely be: C:\Users[username]\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk
Use the same path for both variables

I was not able to find AVD manager in android studio easily for Android studio version 3.1.2.In order to launch AVD manager, i had to create a sample project and then launch it from there.

Android-studio Selected directory is not valid home for Android SDK

I installed android studio but while selecting android SDK I am getting following error. I tried solution which is on this post but no luck. How can I solve this?

I had this problem, select SDK folder (NOT SDK->sources or SDK-platforms)

Just close current error window and let run the android studio
Open the SDK manager as shown below
Click on Edit SDK location as shown below
Simply press next button if there is correct location for SDK you want to install there

Try restarting the application. Close all related studio processes, then right click "run as administrator".
You should be fine after this.

I got the same issue. You must enable the Android Support Plugin
Configuration > Plugin > Android Support Plugin. Check it.

Close error window
Go to gradle tab
select "Gradle settings", wrench icon
Search for SDK setup
Select appropriate sdk for your device.
Next, two times
Wait for install

None of the other answers work. After the installation, immediately close Android Studio, then start it as administrator. A message might popup asking for the sdk manager location. Ignore it (Close the popup). Go to Tools > SDK Manager and click on the edit button on the right of Android SDK Location. Then click Next, next and you're good to go. Android Studio will let you install the sdk manager.

I had the same problem but what I found is that it requires the parent folder of the following things AVD manager,SDK manager,tools,platform-tools,build-tools etc.So what you need is to find the parent directory of these things, which you might find with a name such as android-sdk or android-sdk-windows(in case you are using windows OS).Make sure the above said contents are in that folder and select it.I hope you will find this useful.

Download the SDK from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Start SDK manager and make everything up to date
Also, make sure you have set the language level to
7.0 Diamonds, ARM, Multi-catch, etc

I had this problem on Linux. Apparently you need write access to some place in that directory, so I just took ownership of the entire thing:
sudo chown -R thomas:thomas /opt/android-sdk
Could be that something similar is going on on Windows as well.

If like me, a MacOs user which has installed Android Studio on my Mac and if you've tried everything you can think of but was still unable to set the Android SDK directory in Android Studio, follow the next steps (I know the site where I got the bundle is a freeware site but the package is the right one):
1. Download adt-bundle-mac (Android Developer Tools) from [here][1].
2. Unzip the file and browse into the unzipped folder.
3. Copy only the sdk dir to /Users/username/Library/Android
4. Open Android Studio, the error about the SDK folder which is not set will pop up, set the path to the SDK to "/Users/username/Library/Android/sdk".
5. Now Android Studio will accept the path and you're good to go.
I wasted about 2 hours until I fixed it so I hope that by writing this answer I'll save you some 2 hours.

The sdk folder contains the platform-tools folder.
I copied this folder and named it platforms, then it worked for me.

Just delete(preferably permanently) all the android directories in whatever location they are present(e.g. C:\Program Files\Android, C:\users\respective user\respective android folders). Remove the installer as well(if possible). Make sure to save all your Android Studio files in some external storage (preferably).
The main thing is to get Android studio with SDK.
Now go to the android studio website and install android studio leaving all settings default. There you will also get to install the SDK and it's linking.
It will take some time to load and will load nearly 1.5 GB files.
This worked for my case.

In my case I wasn't giving him admin permission

Steps to follow:
Close Android Studio.
Restart Android Studio and Give the path of Empty Folder .
Install Sdk in that folder(Sdk will automatically install and will get configure automatically.)

With Android Studio 4.1.2 the easiest thing is to close the project (file / close project). That's how you get to the wizard that automatically sets up the SDK for you.
The default location that it suggests is /Users/stan/Library/Android/sdk (exactly the same that I was trying to set up manually but AS kept saying it's invalid)

Android SDK Setup.exe will not run

Running XP sp3 when i click SDK Setup.exe command line promt comes up and goes away fast and nothing else happens is there a fix for this ?

try making empty folders named 'platforms' and 'add-ons' without quotations in your android-sdk-windows folder and then running sdk setup.exe
worked for me just now

I just download the .zip file, opened the file and double-clicked the SDK Setup.exe and it loaded fine. A setup window popped up in the background, that does not happen to you at all?

Take a look into Installing the Android SDK and look over the System Requirements and make sure you have both JDK 5 or JDK 6 (which you do) and JRE 6

Run it from the System command prompt not the User command prompt, not sure if thats really what its called, but there are 2 separate command prompts. You want the one that has higher privelages.
UPDATE
Is your computer able to connect to https? That was an issue that was holding me back from installing android at first, however it is appropriate for the command prompt to disappear immediately.

Ok here is my own fix and recommending it to others save SDK kit unzip to C:\ then 1.) download the latest java currently java 6.0.18 from --> java web site save and run (I used c:\ for file locations to save and run from) 2.) download the latest "Eclipse IDE for Java Developers" from --> eclipse org downloads site 3.) go to my computer c:\ --> C:\Program Files\Java copy the jre6 folder or jre...what ever version you may have paste the folder into the folder name C:\eclipse rename the folder from jre6 to just "jre" this will allow eclipse to run, in eclipse click on the help tab click install new software add location http://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/ ok do restart go back into eclipse go to window tab preferences, expand android, browse c:\android-sdk-windows ok, window tab Android SDK and AVD manager, Available packages, select all, update, in same area go to virtual devices, new, name: Hi target: android 2.1, create AVD, Select and start, now you will have android 2.1 emulator working
