I set the notification priority to max, but it is still at the bottom of the notification area.
My code:
NotificationCompat.Builder builder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setCustomContentView(views)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_play_24dp)
.setOngoing(true)
.setPriority(NotificationCompat.PRIORITY_MAX)
.setContentIntent(notification);
notificationmanager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationmanager.notify(0, builder.build());
How it looks:
From the android documentation :
PRIORITY_MAX was deprecated in API level 26.
Therefore Use IMPORTANCE_HIGH instead.

non removable notification

I am working on music application so i need to display notification on notification bar. for that i am using custom notification. The following is the code for notification for Android Oreo
String NOTIFICATION_CHANNEL_ID = "001";
RemoteViews notificationLayout = new RemoteViews(getPackageName(), R.layout.mynotification);
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.O) {
NotificationChannel notificationChannel = new NotificationChannel(NOTIFICATION_CHANNEL_ID, "My Notifications", NotificationManager.IMPORTANCE_LOW);
notificationChannel.setDescription("Channel description");
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.createNotificationChannel(notificationChannel);
NotificationCompat.Builder notificationBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(MainActivity.this, NOTIFICATION_CHANNEL_ID);
notificationBuilder.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.exo_edit_mode_logo)
.setCustomContentView(notificationLayout)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setPriority(Notification.PRIORITY_DEFAULT);
NotificationManagerCompat com = NotificationManagerCompat.from(this);
com.notify(001, notificationBuilder.build());
}
This code is working fine, but when swipe the notification from notification bar it will be removed. But my requirement is not remove when swipe the notification.
I tried with setAutoCancel(true) and setAutoCancel(false). But not working it will be removed. So how to stick the notification here.
Please guide me how to do this.
Thanks In Advance
use setOngoing(true) to achieve this
You have to add this setOngoing(true)
Try:
Notification.Builder builder = new Notification.Builder(this, CHANNEL_ID)
.setContentTitle(getString(R.string.app_name))
.setContentText("Text")
.setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.ic_launcher)
.setAutoCancel(false)
.setOngoing(true);
Notification notification = builder.build();
When starting an IntentService to upload a file in the background, I want to show a notification to the user that the upload is in progress by calling showNotification() from inside my service:
private void showNotification() {
Notification notification = new Notification.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_cloud_upload_black_24dp)
.setWhen(System.currentTimeMillis())
.setContentTitle("Uploading")
.setContentText("Your upload is in progress.")
.setOngoing(true)
.build();
mNotificationManager.notify(NOTIFICATION_ID, notification);
}
Now here's my problem: the notification appears on the lock screen, but not in the status bar when the screen is unlocked. What am I missing?
Deployment target is API level 24, so a missing NotificationChannel should not be the cause.
try it :
PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(getmContext(), 0, new Intent(getmContext(), MainActivity.class), 0);
android.app.Notification pp = new NotificationCompat.Builder(getmContext())
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_launcher_background)
.setContentText(getMessage())
.setContentIntent(pendingIntent)
.build();
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) getmContext().getSystemService(NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.notify(0, pp);
This is my code which is working fine with target SDK 25
NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(
mContext);
NotificationCompat.InboxStyle inboxStyle = new NotificationCompat.InboxStyle();
inboxStyle.addLine(message);
Notification notification;
notification = mBuilder.setSmallIcon(icon).setTicker(title).setWhen(0)
.setAutoCancel(true)
.setContentTitle(title)
.setContentIntent(resultPendingIntent)
.setStyle(inboxStyle)
.setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.ic_launcher)
.setLargeIcon(BitmapFactory.decodeResource(mContext.getResources(), icon))
.setContentText(message)
.build();
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) mContext.getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
notificationManager.notify(NOTIFICATION_ID, notification);
where NOTIFICATION_ID
public static final int NOTIFICATION_ID = 100;
I feel so dumb. Turns out the notification was displayed all the time, but with a black icon on black background.
Changed the icon colour in the xml from
android:fillColor="#FF000000"
to
android:fillColor="#FFFFFFFF"
and it works like a charm
I use Notification.contentView to replicate notification views:
View notificationView = notification.contentView.apply(context, parent);
Unfortunately as of version N, Notification.contentView may be null and deprecated, so how can I create Notification.contentView manually?
Generally I create notification this way:
NotificationCompat.Builder builder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this, NOTIFICATION_CHANNEL_ID);
builder.setAutoCancel(true)
.setColor(ContextCompat.getColor(this, R.color.colorAccent))
.setContentTitle(title)
.setContentText(text)
.setDefaults(Notification.DEFAULT_ALL)
.setWhen(when)
.setSmallIcon(smallIcon);
Then if I create the contentView manually, what can I do to map all the above settings?
Important note: I don't call setCustomContentView, I want to reproduce a contentView for the standard notification.
Notification.contentView()
YES From android N, this field may be null
The notification view is determined by the inputs to Notification.Builder; a custom RemoteViews can optionally be supplied with Notification.Builder.setCustomContentView(RemoteViews)
SAMPLE CODE
NotificationManager mNotificationManager =
(NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
String NOTIFICATION_CHANNEL_ID = "Nilesh_channel";
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.O) {
NotificationChannel notificationChannel = new NotificationChannel(NOTIFICATION_CHANNEL_ID, "Your Notifications",
NotificationManager.IMPORTANCE_HIGH);
notificationChannel.setDescription("");
notificationChannel.enableLights(true);
notificationChannel.enableVibration(true);
mNotificationManager.createNotificationChannel(notificationChannel);
}
NotificationCompat.Builder notificationBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this, NOTIFICATION_CHANNEL_ID);
RemoteViews notificationView = new RemoteViews(getPackageName(), R.layout.custom_layout);
notificationBuilder.setAutoCancel(true)
.setColor(ContextCompat.getColor(this, R.color.colorAccent))
.setContentTitle(getString(R.string.app_name))
.setContentText("")
.setDefaults(Notification.DEFAULT_ALL)
.setWhen(System.currentTimeMillis())
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic_launcher_background)
.setCustomContentView(notificationView) // set here your RemoteViews
.setAutoCancel(true);
OUTPUT
Answer my own question:
Create contentView by Notification.Builder:
builder.createContentView();
Create contentView by Notification:
Notification.Builder.recoverBuilder(context, notification).createContentView();
Since Notification.Builder.createContentView() was introduced in api level 24, so the above code can only be called from Nougat 7.0 or newer devices; For a lower version phones, it's always safe to reference non-null Notification.contentView directly, it's created automatically by the android system after builder.build() was called.
I have a simple method which onclick() of a Button should generate status bar notification, but for some reason, it isn't showing up.
public void createNotification() {
NotificationCompat.Builder builder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon(android.R.drawable.ic_dialog_alert)
.setContentTitle("Notification!")
.setContentText("This is my first notification!");
Notification notification = builder.build();
NotificationManagerCompat notificationManager = NotificationManagerCompat.from(this);
notificationManager.notify(0, notification);
}
In Android 8 (API level 26), all notifications must be assigned to a channel.
This work for me:
NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder = new NotificationCompat.Builder(getContext(), CHANNEL_ID)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.emo_no_paint_120)
.setContentTitle("title")
.setContentText("content")
.setColor(Color.parseColor("#009add"))
.setAutoCancel(true);
NotificationManager notificationManager = (NotificationManager) getContext().getSystemService(
NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.O) {
NotificationChannel mChannel = new NotificationChannel(CHANNEL_ID, CHANNEL_NAME, NotificationManager.IMPORTANCE_HIGH);
notificationManager.createNotificationChannel(mChannel);
}
notificationManager.notify(0, mBuilder.build());
And you should add AppCompat library
implementation 'com.android.support:support-compat:27.1.0'
You could check official Android Docs
Your code is okay. But since you are targeting Android 8.0, you need to implement Notification Channels since this the preferred way in Android Oreo.
https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/ui/notifiers/notifications.html
I am working on an app in android in which i wish to notify specific users about specific events. These notifications are made by using the the Firebase Cloud Messaging data-messages. When I send a data-message to the users client, the onMessageReceived-method is called and I can handle these messages as I wish.
Now I want to make the device vibrate in the very moment the messages arrives. Therefore, I tried to build a notification and set the vibration on it, however it does not vibrate at all..
I included the VIBRATE-permission in my applications Manifest as well.
Here is my Code to build the notification:
NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder =
(NotificationCompat.Builder) new NotificationCompat.Builder(this)
.setSmallIcon(R.mipmap.ic_icon)
.setContentTitle("Content Title")
.setContentText("Content Text")
.setVibrate(new long[] {500,500,500,500,500,500,500,500,500});
Notification note = mBuilder.build();
NotificationManager mNotificationManager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
mNotificationManager.notify(1, note);
Have I missed anything?
NotificationCompat.Builder mBuilder =
new NotificationCompat.Builder(context)
.setSmallIcon(R.drawable.ic)
.setContentTitle(context.getString(R.string.text))
.setContentText(context.getString(R.string.app_name))
.setContentIntent(contentIntent);
mBuilder.setVibrate(new long[]{500, 500});
mBuilder.setSound(Settings.System.DEFAULT_NOTIFICATION_URI);
NotificationManager mNotifyMgr =
(NotificationManager) context.getSystemService(context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
mNotifyMgr.notify(001, mBuilder.build());
This works for me.
