Now when I am calling Detail Fragement from Home Fragment my toolbar overlaps with status bar. If I call Detail fragment from any other fragment it is looking fine. Also toolbar in Home fragment does not overlap with status bar although xml for Home fragment and Detail fragment is nearly the same.
Picture one shows when detail fragment is opened normally
Picture two when detail fragment is opened from home page
Latest update:
This solution is helping me https://medium.com/google-developers/windows-insets-fragment-transitions-9024b239a436 but there are lots of changes involved any other short way to do it?

The symptoms you mention are very similar to the ones, mentioned in this question. To recap from the answer that I have provided there, the issue is, that window insets are being dispatched the first time fragment is being shown, but they are not being next time you are making a fragment transaction.
You have to manually ask for the window insets to be dispatched in order to receive correct system bar paddings:
private void replaceFragment() {
getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction()
.replace(R.id.content, new DetailFragment())
// NOTE, we are performing `commitNow()` instead of ordinary `commit()`,
// Because we want this commit to happen sychronously/immediately
.commitNow();
// Ask the framework to dispatch window insets once more to the root of your view hierarchy
ViewCompat.requestApplyInsets(findViewById(R.id.root));
}

Design XML like this,

In your JAVA file,
onCreate :
Window window = getWindow();
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.KITKAT) {
window.setFlags(WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_TRANSLUCENT_STATUS, WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_TRANSLUCENT_STATUS);
}

I think you should add this in you detail fragment (just give it a try):
app:contentInsetLeft="0dp"
app:contentInsetStart="0dp"
app:title="#string/empty"
app:logo="#drawable/customimage"
and make one image as transparent add it as customimage for detail, this would be probably a trick.
Thank you.

The frame layout contains my recycler view..
I've added a collapsing toobar layout for the linear layout
I'm trying to get the frame layout to halfway up the collaping toolbar layout
but This is the result I'm getting
what I want is..
If you have a better method to do this please feel free to help. Im a complete noobie..
I'm sorry for my lack of artistic expertise in the paint image....
Please Check the Answers below For solution If you have the same problem..I've solved mine using the same
Add these attribute inside of your FrameLayout
app:layout_anchor="#id/app_bar"
app:behavior_overlapTop="45dp"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
app:layout_anchorGravity="bottom"
EDIT:
<androidx.coordinatorlayout.widget.CoordinatorLayout
android:id="#+id/contentView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">

</androidx.coordinatorlayout.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
The Above layout will make my FrameLayout overlap by 45dp
You should be able to use the elevation attribute on your views to set the Z axis elevation, which will allow those 2 surface to be at different elevations.
It's because of this line:
android:layout_marginTop="-80dp"
You need to remove this first then,
All you need to do is adding this line of code to the FrameLayout:
app:behavior_overlapTop="150dp"

fragment anchored to appbarlayout

I want to achieve a UI in which the fragment should be anchored to appbarlayout.
What I've done so far is, I've set anchor-gravity to my fragment second_container as bottom|center and transacted one fragment inside it:
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
>
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:id="#+id/appbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="200dp"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|snap"
app:popupTheme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Light" />
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/second_container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:layout_anchor="#id/appbar"
app:layout_anchorGravity="bottom|center"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlwaysCollapsed" />
<android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior">
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/container"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
</android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView>
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
The output should be like this:
what I'm getting is:
As you can see, the fragment content is getting overlapped on appbarlayout, what is the problem here? Thanks for your attention.

Android tabs in fragment with collapsing toolbar

I have a Collapsing Toolbar in my app.
I use a NavigationDrawer and switch between the items with different fragments, while replacing a FrameLayout, and leaving the Toolbar across the app.
One of the fragments has a tab layout.
When I show that fragment it is shown underneath the Toolbar, with the Toolbar shadow overlapping it.
I want it to be on the same level with the Toolbar, and to look and act like it is in the same AppBarLayout.
Also, I want to make the tabs transparent when the Toolbar is expanded.
How do I reorganize my layouts so that this will work?

Also see this answer it explained well there.
If you want further explaination then read these blogs
http://blog.grafixartist.com/parallax-scrolling-tabs-design-support-library

https://lab.getbase.com/nested-scrolling-with-coordinatorlayout-on-android/
I had a similar problem.
I solved removing the elevation of the ActionBar while showing the fragment with the undesired shadow.
I added this two methods in the Activity:
public void setToolbarElevation(){
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= 21){
if (toolbar!=null) {
toolbar.setElevation(getResources().getDimensionPixelSize(R.dimen.actionbar_elevation));
}
}
}
public void removeToolbarElevation(){
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= 21){
if (toolbar!=null) {
toolbar.setElevation(0);
}
}
}
So when you call the fragment with the tabs, you call the removeToolbarElevation() in the activity and the shadow should disappear.
Let me know if it works for you.
When I show that fragment it is shown underneath the Toolbar, with the Toolbar shadow overlapping it.
I want it to be on the same level with the Toolbar, and to look and act like it is in the same AppBarLayout.
for this give the same elevation to the tab layout as per the material design guidelines described here default elevation is 4 dp. so try giving the tab layout elevation
Also, I want to make the tabs transparent when the Toolbar is expanded.
for this add a class like this
public abstract class AppBarStateChangeListener implements AppBarLayout.OnOffsetChangedListener {
public enum State {
EXPANDED,
COLLAPSED,
IDLE
}
private State mCurrentState = State.IDLE;
#Override
public final void onOffsetChanged(AppBarLayout appBarLayout, int i) {
if (i == 0) {
if (mCurrentState != State.EXPANDED) {
onStateChanged(appBarLayout, State.EXPANDED);
}
mCurrentState = State.EXPANDED;
} else if (Math.abs(i) >= appBarLayout.getTotalScrollRange()) {
if (mCurrentState != State.COLLAPSED) {
onStateChanged(appBarLayout, State.COLLAPSED);
}
mCurrentState = State.COLLAPSED;
} else {
if (mCurrentState != State.IDLE) {
onStateChanged(appBarLayout, State.IDLE);
}
mCurrentState = State.IDLE;
}
}
public abstract void onStateChanged(AppBarLayout appBarLayout, State state);
}
then in your activity use it like
appBarLayout.addOnOffsetChangedListener(new AppBarStateChangeListener() {
#Override
public void onStateChanged(AppBarLayout appBarLayout, State state) {
Log.d("STATE", state.name());
//if state is expanded then set your tab layout background to transparent
}
});
You have go through this. As I am refering this Blog.
It is combination of what you have require means the combination of DrawerLayout + Fragments + CollapsingToolbarLayout.

Then, when I switch the fragments, I show the tabs only on the fragment that I want them in, and hide them when I don't want them to show:
toolbar_layout.SetExpanded(true);
tabs.Visibility = ViewStates.Gone;
And when I want to show them:
toolbar_layout.SetExpanded(false,false);
tabs.Visibility = ViewStates.Visible;
Although I don't get them transparent, but I decided to just collapse the toolbar when I show them, and disable expanding it on the fragment with the tabs.
Maybe not the best solution, but it works pretty well for me.

I add the image view in a framelayout in the toolbar so that i can have a overlay on the image and a gradient to make the toolbar text visible on some images
But this color line is coming just below the image (see screenshot) on adding the framelayout. If I remove the line
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
from appbarlayout then the the color line disapperas but toolbar also scrolls away from the view...
Also to show the back button on the toolbar I have added the below code in OnCreate still it does not show
toolbar = FindViewById<Android.Support.V7.Widget.Toolbar>(Resource.Id.anim_toolbar);
SetSupportActionBar(toolbar);
SupportActionBar.SetDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
SupportActionBar.SetHomeButtonEnabled(true);
SupportActionBar.Title = content.Title;
toolbar.SetNavigationIcon(Resource.Drawable.ic_action);
collapsingToolbar = FindViewById<CollapsingToolbarLayout>(Resource.Id.collapsing_toolbar);
collapsingToolbar.SetTitle(content.Title);
Thanks...
OK got it now had to remove

Consider adding a fixed width to your app bar layout

android:layout_height="300dp"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar"

CollapsingToolbarLayout not working(collapsing)when scrolled

I am trying to create a CollapsingToolbarLayout and below it a listview, when the listview is scrolled the Toolbar should collapse, but its not working when scrolled the Toolbar is not collapsing.
Used this tutorial: http://android-developers.blogspot.in/2015_05_01_archive.html
Note: The FrameLayout contains the listview
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:scrollbars="vertical">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:id="#+id/appbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="192dp"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar">
<android.support.design.widget.CollapsingToolbarLayout
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|exitUntilCollapsed">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbara"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:layout_collapseMode="pin"
app:popupTheme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Light" />
</android.support.design.widget.CollapsingToolbarLayout>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/frame"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
</LinearLayout>
The framelayout code:
<RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
tools:context="ranjithnair02.com.supporttest.BlankFragment">
<ListView
android:id="#+id/rcyv"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent" />
<android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton
android:id="#+id/fab"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
android:layout_marginBottom="10dp"
android:layout_marginRight="10dp"
android:src="#android:drawable/ic_search_category_default"
app:borderWidth="0dp"
app:elevation="5dp"
app:rippleColor="#color/wallet_highlighted_text_holo_light" />
</RelativeLayout>
You should use RecyclerView instead of ListView
Note:
don't forget to update RecyclerView in Gradle file.
compile 'com.android.support:recyclerview-v7:22.2.0'
I did an example by using RecyclerView instead. The source code could be found here:
https://github.com/jiahaoliuliu/MaterialDesignSample/tree/collapsingToolbars
There are a couple of things that you should take into account and the post does not says.
Use CoordinatorLayout as the main layout
Use a theme without ActionBar and set the toolbar as actionBar instead. You can do it by creating a special theme for the activity like this:
<!-- Indigo without actionbar when toolbar is used -->
<style name="IndigoWithoutActionBar" parent="Indigo">
<item name="windowActionBar">false</item>
<item name="windowNoTitle">true</item>
</style>
And in the AndroidManifest.xml file, do the follow:
<activity
android:name=".CollapsingToolbarActivity"
android:label="#string/app_name"
android:theme="#style/IndigoWithoutActionBar"
>
</activity>
Once this is done, set it on the Java code:
// Actionbar
final Toolbar toolbar = (Toolbar) findViewById(R.id.toolbar);
setSupportActionBar(toolbar);
getSupportActionBar().setDisplayHomeAsUpEnabled(true);
Here is a functional xml code that I use.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout

android:layout_width="match_parent"

<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
app:popupTheme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Light"
app:layout_collapseMode="pin" />
</android.support.design.widget.CollapsingToolbarLayout>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/simpleRecyclerView"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
/>
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
If this is not enough for you, you can follow the code of Chris Banes here:
https://github.com/chrisbanes/cheesesquare
For my case : I dint give height to my Toolbar .
It was wrap_content. If thats the case then try to fix the height of the Toolbar using :-
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
You need to add two things to the list view and it will work
android:nestedScrollingEnabled="true"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
My working XML code is
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Hopefully help someone.
The problem is the RelativeLayout. Try replacing the FrameLayout with the ListView and then the FloatingButton. All wrapped in a CoordinatorLayout of course.
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/frame"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"/>
