Android: RecyclerLayout is adding default padding - android

I'm trying to create a Collapsing Toolbar Layout using RecyclerLayout.
The problem is that, When I'm inflating the Layout during run time, it's adding a default padding on it's own.
Below are my layout xmls:
activity_profile.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/recycler"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior" />
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:id="#+id/appbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="180dp"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar">
<android.support.design.widget.CollapsingToolbarLayout
android:id="#+id/collapsing_toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
app:contentScrim="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|exitUntilCollapsed">
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/header"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
android:scaleType="centerCrop"
app:layout_collapseMode="parallax" />
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
app:layout_collapseMode="pin"
app:popupTheme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Light" />
</android.support.design.widget.CollapsingToolbarLayout>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_margin="10dp"
app:layout_anchor="#+id/appbar"
app:layout_anchorGravity="bottom|center|end" />
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
I've tried to remove activity_horizontal_margin as well but it does not seem to work.
Here is the layout that I'm trying to inflate in the recycler-layout:
profile_view.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="#color/colorProfileStatsBackground"
app:layout_constraintBottom_toTopOf="#+id/guideline">
</android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout>
<android.support.constraint.Guideline
android:id="#+id/guideline"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="horizontal"
app:layout_constraintGuide_percent="0.25" />
</android.support.constraint.ConstraintLayout>
Output:

Finally figured out the problem.
The problem was with android:fitsSystemWindows="true" in AppBarLayout.
I did some research, and found an article fitsSystemWindow which decribes that the default behavior of this attribute is that it sets the padding of the View to ensure the contents don’t overlay the system windows.

Positioning views in Coordinator Layout

I am trying to create a screen with coordinator layout that includes:
Toolbar
Fragment, which will be replaced for every page using navigation API
Bottom App bar
However, I am struggling with positioning views in a way so the app's bottom bar doesn't overlap what in the fragment.
Any chance you could help me out with this, please? From what I can tell, the only way is to add a margin at the bottom but this may not be consistent across devices.
To illustrate, this list has a total of 25 items but the last two are overlapped by the app's bottom bar.

You can use LinearLayout inside CoordinatorLayout to arrange your views if it fits your needs or ConstraintLayout
I hope that the basis of the decision is clear. Take a look at this example:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:popupTheme="#style/AppTheme.PopupOverlay"/>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<LinearLayout
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<include

android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_weight="1"/>
<LinearLayout
android:id="#+id/bar"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:layout_weight="0"
android:background="#color/colorAccent"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="100dp"/>
</LinearLayout>
<android.support.design.widget.FloatingActionButton
android:id="#+id/fab"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="bottom|end"
android:layout_margin="#dimen/fab_margin"

Anchor recylerview on Imageview inside AppBarLayout,CollapsingToolbarLayout

I am using AppBarLayout and CollapsingToolbarLayout
Following is my xml code
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:id="#+id/appbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="185dp"
android:background="#android:color/transparent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true">
<android.support.design.widget.CollapsingToolbarLayout
android:id="#+id/main.collapsing"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
app:contentScrim="#color/card_dark_text"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|exitUntilCollapsed">
<ImageView
android:id="#+id/imgAirportBg"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:scaleType="centerCrop"
android:src="#drawable/screen_bg"
android:tint="#8a000000"
android:visibility="visible"
app:layout_collapseMode="parallax" />
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:elevation="2dp"
app:layout_behavior=".view.ToolbarBackgroundAlphaBehavior"
app:layout_collapseMode="pin"
app:navigationIcon="?attr/homeAsUpIndicator"
app:theme="#style/TransperantToolbar" />
</android.support.design.widget.CollapsingToolbarLayout>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/home_recyclerview"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:clipToPadding="false"
android:descendantFocusability="beforeDescendants"
android:focusable="true"
android:focusableInTouchMode="true"
android:layoutAnimation="#anim/layout_animation_recycler_slide_in"
android:paddingBottom="15dp"
app:layout_anchor="#id/imgAirportBg"
app:layout_anchorGravity="center|bottom"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior" />
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
Now want to anchor Recylerview a little bit on ImageView imgAirportBg which is inside CollapsingToolbarLayout. how to do this?
I have added following to RecyclerView
app:layout_anchor="#id/imgAirportBg"
app:layout_anchorGravity="center|bottom"
but it's not working.
solved it by adding following line to recyclerview xml
app:behavior_overlapTop="28dp"

Why doesn't my RecyclerView show up when it's nested inside NestedScrollView?

I'm trying to implement a recycler view with a collapsing toolbar layout. I have followed this tutorial, but so far my RecyclerView does not show up. All the other views are visible, though.
Here's my layout file:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
android:orientation="vertical">
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:id="#+id/app_bar_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar">
<android.support.design.widget.CollapsingToolbarLayout
android:id="#+id/collapsing_toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
app:contentScrim="#color/colorPrimary"
app:expandedTitleMarginEnd="64dp"
app:expandedTitleMarginStart="48dp"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|exitUntilCollapsed">
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
app:layout_collapseMode="pin" />
</android.support.design.widget.CollapsingToolbarLayout>
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
<android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:clipToPadding="false"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior">
<android.support.v4.widget.SwipeRefreshLayout
android:id="#+id/contentView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content">
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/listing_recycler_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
tools:listitem="#layout/item_post" />
</android.support.v4.widget.SwipeRefreshLayout>
</android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView>
<TextView
android:id="#+id/errorView"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:text="#string/listing_loading_error"
android:visibility="gone"
tools:text="Error" />
<ProgressBar
android:id="#+id/loadingView"
style="?android:attr/progressBarStyleLarge"
android:layout_width="wrap_content"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:layout_gravity="center"
android:visibility="gone" />
</android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout>
The progress bar and the error textview do show up when I toggle them from the code, but the recycler view won't show up.
set recyclerview to actual dp height. It worked for me.
<android.support.v7.widget.RecyclerView
android:id="#+id/listing_recycler_view"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior"
tools:listitem="#layout/item_post" />

Translucent StatusBar on kitkat with FrameLayout above the Toolbar and using CoordinatorLayout

I was trying to achieve Translucent StatusBar on kitkat with the following FrameLayout and it's working without CoordinatorLayout like this:
Layout.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:weightSum="1">
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/statusbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="25dp"
android:background="#color/colorPrimaryDark" />
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="0dp"
android:layout_weight="2"
android:background="#color/colorPrimary" />
</LinearLayout>
And this line in Styles.xml-v19 of course:
<item name="android:windowTranslucentStatus">true</item>
And of course in the onCreate:
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT < 19) {
FrameLayout statusbar = (FrameLayout) findViewById(R.id.statusbar);
statusbar.setVisibility(View.GONE);
}
And that worked:
But, i'm wondering how we can achieve that with CoordinatorLayout and AppbarLayout?
Here is my try by the way:
<android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout
android:id="#+id/app_bar_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar">
<android.support.design.widget.CollapsingToolbarLayout
android:id="#+id/toolbarCollapse"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
app:contentScrim="?attr/colorPrimary"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|exitUntilCollapsed">
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/statusbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="25dp"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimaryDark" />
<android.support.v7.widget.Toolbar
android:id="#+id/toolbarmain"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:background="#color/ColorPrimary"
app:layout_scrollFlags="scroll|enterAlways"
app:popupTheme="#style/ToolbarStylepopuptheme"
app:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar" />
</android.support.design.widget.CollapsingToolbarLayout>
<android.support.design.widget.TabLayout
android:id="#+id/tab_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:background="?attr/colorPrimary"
android:minHeight="?attr/actionBarSize"
android:theme="#style/ThemeOverlay.AppCompat.Dark.ActionBar"
app:tabIndicatorColor="#android:color/white"
app:tabIndicatorHeight="2dp"
app:tabMode="scrollable" />
</android.support.design.widget.AppBarLayout>
And didn't work.
Update: Also this one is not working:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<android.support.v4.widget.DrawerLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:app="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res-auto"
xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools"
android:id="#+id/drawer_layout"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:fitsSystemWindows="true"
tools:context=".ui.MainActivity">
<LinearLayout
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
android:orientation="vertical">
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/statusBar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="25dp"
android:background="#color/colorPrimaryDark"
android:translationZ="8dp" />
<android.support.design.widget.CoordinatorLayout
android:id="#+id/root_coordinator"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent">
<android.support.v4.widget.NestedScrollView
android:id="#+id/nestedscrollview"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="match_parent"
app:layout_behavior="#string/appbar_scrolling_view_behavior">
...
...
Any solutions to achieve that?
Something like ADM app on GooglePlay design.
Also, let's mention that, i've had the same problem with SystemBarTint when i was using CoordinatorLayout(same condition).
I couldn't figured out how they could do that.
Also, there is a good tutorial here, https://youtu.be/YCThIedqbCQ but it doesn't work for me.
Can you not just do this? It seems like you're moving your faux status bar into the Coordinator layout when you don't need to?
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="wrap_content"
android:orientation="vertical"
android:weightSum="1">
<FrameLayout
android:id="#+id/statusbar"
android:layout_width="match_parent"
android:layout_height="25dp"
android:background="#color/colorPrimaryDark" />
<Coordinator>
<AppBarLayout>
<CollapsibleToolbarLayout>
<Toolbar/>
</CollapsibleToolbarLayout>
</AppBarLayout>
<NestedScrollView/>
</Coordinator>
</LinearLayout>

How do I fix a layout inside Coordinator Layout?

Currently recycler view and the app bar scrolls . Now I need to fix the relative layout rlProductCheckout to the bottom of the screen even if the recyclerview and app bar scrolls. Current relative layout disappears when I start scrolling, it reappears only when I move back to the start of the list.

Try to wrap the RelativeLayout outside the CoordinatorLayout. Try some this like How to put RelativeLayout inside CoordinatorLayout
