I want the toolbar to only show when the user reaches the far top of the view. I have a recyclerview that has a lot of rows. I want the user to be able to go up and down without being bothered by the toolbar unless he reaches the very top of the view. How can this be done? Thanks.

everyone. I'm doing an android app and I'm trying to replicate some of the facebook messenger behaviors. My activity has a coordinatorlayout, inside a tableyout and a viewpager. It's working fine but in a fragment I have a recyclerview inside a nestedscrollerview. Specifically some views, a textview then the recyclerview, I'd like that when scrolling down when it reaches the text above the reyclerview, this text stays anchored in the top and it never gets hidden by the nestedscrollview. Just like the facebook messenger app, like this:

I thought about having a hidden textview outside of the nestedscrollview that becomes visible when the scrollview reaches the other textview, so it looks anchored but I wanted to know if there is a better way of doing this. Thank you.

Then I populate my ListView with items whose layout is defined in another xml file. My problem is with the ViewPager layout_height: it is now set to match_parent, but the element extends over the bottom of the screen, with the result that the last element of the ListView is covered by the navigation buttons.

I faced this issue too. It's because of AppBarLayout behavior in CoordinatorLayout. By default when you create a project from a template it will set up layout with hiding Toolbar. You can run your example and check it - just swipe toolbar up and it will hide and ViewPager will move up and then correctly sticks to the bottom of the screen.
It's not a solution for some cases so you can disable this behavior by removing app:layout_scrollFlags attribute from your Toolbar. After this, the toolbar will become unhideable and the ViewPager will calculate own height correctly.
I solved using a LinearLayout as the only child of the CoordinatorLayout, so everything else becomes a children of the LinearLayout. It seems to me to be just a simple workaround, not a final solution, but now it works. This is now the layout of my main activity:

I'm working on a tab activity in my app, but it seems that the tabs are using the wrong height (thinking the layout is about half an inch taller than it is on any device) and as a result any vertical centering is off on the low side, and my scrollviews are messed up because the screen won't scroll far enough down to see the bottom of the view. I have tried tinkering with the layout_height on any relevant class I can think of and hiding the tabs, but nothing helps and I cant find this problem anywhere else. I generated the default template for a TabLayout activity in Android Studio 1.4.

I set app:layout_scrollFlags for my CollapsingToolbarLayout to scroll|enterAlways and expected that toolbar will work like in gapps (e.g. Google Play or Google Magazine) with auto-hide/show like on this sample:

But I only got scrolling toolbar that does not retract automatically, but only if user completely scrolled it himself. See sample: my app

You should measure if the bottom and top offset of the AppBarLayout is offset for more than the half the the height of the AppBarLayout and user has released the scroll. When this condition is fulfilled just start animating the translationY of the Toolbar or the offsetting of the AppBarLayout.
This could be achieved with custom CoordinatorLayout.Behavor or with inheriting existing AppBarLayout.Behaviour and tweaking it to do so.

I am using the view CoordinatorLayout from android.support.design. I want to attach the app:layout_behavior to the fragment's RecyclerView?
In the example given by Google, they only attach it in the RecyclerView of the same XML file where the CoordinatorLayout was attached.

The idea is to let the viewpager have the layout_behavior attribute.
This might be dumb, but it didn't worked due to the fact that the build tool was not updated in the build.gradle of the application version to 22, I was using 21 that is why it is not working as expected to be.

Use a FrameLayout and inject your fragment into that FrameLayout. Then set
app:layout_behavior to it. The only thing you need to do is set layout_behavior

I recently had the same problem mentioned in the post, and the above solutions did not work for me. Luckily I managed to solve it. So just to share I am posting here
The problem was that in my code I had set
recyclerView.setNestedScrollingEnabled(false);
due to which the appbar was not responding to recyclerView's scrolls despite setting the layout_behaviour attribute to the viewPager. Changing the above-mentioned attribute to
recyclerView.setNestedScrollingEnabled(true);
solved the problem and the appbar started responding to the recylerView's scroll.
After a few tests, I found that put the TabLayout outside AppBarLayout, will works, whatever the viewpager's Fragment contains. This is my main xml.

I'm having the same problem, i solved the scrolling but putting toolbar and the tabs inside the app bar and wrap it and the viewpager with a coordinatorlayout.
Also in the layout of my recycle view(to be inflated) i add the layout_behavior. It works but the problem is everything is over each other.
