I have an app which will, at some point, require Facebook Messenger to scan QR to connect with a bot.
I found two ways to scan a QR with messenger so far:
1-) Launch messenger and go to "People" tab and press "Scan QR" -> Scan the code
2-) Launch messenger, open camera, hold down to screen until circle appears -> Scan the code
What I want to do is to reduce the steps required to scan a QR code.
I couldn't see any proper solution by going through the Facebook Android SDK & Messenger Platform docs.
So my questions are:
1-) Is there any way to at least start the messenger with QR code reader on through deep link or with any official API ?
2-) Is there any other way to scan Facebook specific QR's ( circle ones ) outside of Messenger and launch messenger as a result ? ( launch a bot chat on Messenger with QR result )
P.S.: I know that deep links may deprecate / change without notice. Answer here also states it, but when I check, I see WizKid's answer here is from 2014. I'm asking this question to learn possible ways and if they added any official way to communicate with it.
If you want for it to be scanned with any reader, you can generate your own QR pointing to: https://m.me/{page_name}.
m.me is a shortened URL service operated by Facebook that redirects users to a person, page, or bot in Messenger. You can use them on your website, email newsletters, and more.
When a user starts a new conversation or continues an existing conversation with your bot via an m.me link, the following message will appear in the conversation: "You have entered this conversation by following a link. We've let PAGE_NAME know you're here."
The format of the link is http://m.me/{PAGE_NAME}, where PAGE_NAME is the handle of the Facebook page the bot is linked to.
This will in fact deep link into a conversation with your bot.
Additional documentation for this is available in https://developers.facebook.com/docs/messenger-platform/discovery/m-me-links

I am working on a project to integrate the Google Assistant with an existing Android app. The requirements are simple. Assuming my app is named TestApp and I want it to just Create a meeting, I want to be able to say, "Hey Google, Create a meeting on TestApp".
The closest API I found that does what I need is the Voice Interactions. This is very similar to what I need done but it only allows preset voice triggers such as "call this person..." or "set alarm at...", but cannot do "create a task or something else..." like in my example. According to this link, custom voice actions aren't allowed.
So my question is, is it possible to directly interact with my app and have it do a very simple task?
Short Answer: No, not directly. But your Action can be made to prompt the user for permission to "deep-link" into an Android activity. To do that you need first to associate the Action and the Activity in the console. Sample code is here
https://actions-on-google.github.io/actions-on-google-nodejs/classes/conversation_helper.deeplink.html
Longer Answer: Before there were Actions on Google there were Google Now Actions. (Yeah I know it's confusing). With Google Now Actions the Google App on a phone can be made to launch an Android activity with an intent which carries search terms in the bundle of "string extras". Then your user would say something like
"OK, Google search for the meeting creator on TestApp". Then you would get the text "the meeting creator" as a query string extra in a specially crafted search intent which launches TestApp into its meeting-creating activity. Details are here:
https://www.seroundtable.com/google-now-actions-19436.html
Unlike Actions on Google, Google Now Actions forces your user to pose his request as a search.
I have searched SO and the web for a similar issue, and while others appear to have encountered this problem, their solutions are not working for me.
DFL parameter in Firebase Dynamic Links Builder
Starting with Android, I'm attempting to implement the Dynamic Links for my app. The app requires additional parameters on the dynamic link, so I'm manually constructing the link based on the information here: https://firebase.google.com/docs/dynamic-links/create-manually.
I have created my link in the following manner (code abbreviated for purposes of this post)
Uri.Builder builder = new Uri.Builder()
.scheme("https")
.authority(AppPrivate.Invitation.APP_CODE + ".app.goo.gl")
.path("/")
.appendQueryParameter("link", link)
.appendQueryParameter("apn", AppPrivate.PACKAGE)
.appendQueryParameter("dfl", desktopLink);
For my use case the link and desktopLink parameters are the same - they are actual working URLs on my website. Regardless of what device the user hits with the dynamic link, it should perform the desired action. Again, for purposes of simply getting this working, I've linked to our primary website (https://www.mytravelerapp.com).
When I send the invitation from my Android device, I generate an intent based on the code sample here: https://github.com/firebase/quickstart-android/blob/master/invites/app/src/main/java/com/google/firebase/quickstart/invites/MainActivity.java
return new AppInviteInvitation.IntentBuilder(context.getString(R.string.content_trip_invitation_title))
.setMessage(message)
.setDeepLink(uri)
.setCustomImage(Uri.parse(AppPrivate.Invitation.TRIP_INVITE_DEEP_LINK_IMAGE))
.setCallToActionText(context.getString(R.string.content_trip_invitation_cta))
.build();
However, when I receive the invitation via email on my desktop, it always goes to the Play Store listing, no matter what I've added to the initial deep link (DFL, AFL). Here's a sample of the link from the "call to action" button from the email:
https://a3d4u.app.goo.gl/i/225742434763-3bd2c2fa-45f0-4ed8-aca3-37760d27d971
I've not yet implemented the receivers in the android app to listen for incoming links, so I cannot confirm whether or not the deep link behaves appropriately on that platform.
Any recommendations or suggestions on what I'm missing with the desktop link are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
You're actually wrapping a dynamic link in another dynamic link. Invites itself generates a dynamic link, which doesn't have your DFL parameter, so it is redirecting to the store.
You could try shortening the dynamic link you generate, and sharing via the regular share dialog rather than using Invites.
Generally, when user scans the QR code or sends the designated SMS in the hotel, the user should:
- if the app is not already installed, it should be installed with the current location's content
- if the app is installed already (i.e. from a visit to another hotel using our system), it should check and see if the app needs updating, update if needed, and then load the content for the current hotel location.
But I got deeplinking only how to write the cordova(.js) code in js file.
i followd the link:https://dev.branch.io/getting-started/sdk-integration-guide/guide/cordova/
but there is no infromation for how to redirecting to specific hotel.
So please help me from this problem.
Thanks in advance
i had read about this in a article that you will have to re-direct them according to your ui-router. By default it will always open your index file. but if you want the deeplink to work on specific pages you have configure them in your ui-router.This article explains it link
Alex from Branch.io here: what you're trying to do is Deep Link Routing. This is what allows you to embed information about the hotel into the QR code/SMS link, and then after the app is open you can make sure the user sees the correct content. We have a guide about it here
Branch deffered deeplink is worked fine for me by following this link:https://github.com/BranchMetrics/cordova-ionic-phonegap-branch-deep-linking/blob/master/testbed/www/js/index.js
I want to enable users to share a URL+ text with a WhatsApp group. I want this to work both from iPhones and Androids. However my app is in a browser (it's a website). I'm currently looking into 2 options, but both have issues:
1) The first potential solution - sharing directly from the browser.
I checked out WhatsApp's URL schema and used the following URL to share through my app:
"whatsapp://send?text=Hello%2C%20World!"
However there were several problems with this approach:
It seems to work only with iPhones and not with Androids. Is there a comparable solution somewhere for Androids?
It enables to choose who to send to only after you are redirected to WhatsApp, unless you know the address book ID (=abid) of the user. First, I do not know how to access the abid of users? Second, I am trying to send to a group, in which case there is no abid (right?), and therefore it seems impossible to do this. Is that true?
Also, what happens for Android apps? What is the comparable to the abid, for a group, and how do I get it?
2) The second potential solution - creating a native app which is identical with the browser-based app, but this specific part (where we do the "sharing") is native.
However, it seems to me that in this case I have very similar problems to the ones described above:
I can see how to do this for iOS on WhatsApp's website (see the link above). However, does the WhatsApp URL schema work with Android native apps as well?
Again, the address book ID issue is the same. How do I get it? It may be easier to get the abid on iOS given that we are now a native app, but does it exist for a group? And how about the Android app? Would this share to WhatsApp group work there?
Sharing directly from the browser works both in iPhone and Android if you use WhatsApp version 2.11 or higher. As you said it DIDN'T USED TO work in Android.
U can use the same URL
"whatsapp://send?text=Hello%2C%20World!"
Knowing abid is not possible as far as I know.
Hope this was helpful.
Thank You.
in Android you can invite friends from an app using Intent, see the following Code
final ComponentName name = new ComponentName("com.whatsapp", "com.whatsapp.ContactPicker");
Intent oShareIntent = new Intent();
oShareIntent.setComponent(name);
oShareIntent.setType("text/plain");
oShareIntent.putExtra(android.content.Intent.EXTRA_TEXT, "Your Message");
startActivity(oShareIntent);
I hope this solves your problem
I'm very close to having what I need for my facebook dialog, the post is working successfully, which has taken me a fair amount of time as i've struggled with the facebook sdk.
When I open the dialog to post a message to the feed ( or when I call authorise in a dialog ), it shows as shown here:
http://minus.com/mg6utFaHf
I'm looking for something more like this:
Any ideas why mind is showing so... ugly?
It's very square, in a webview, with the X in the top left.
Thanks, any help is much appreciated.
The new Facebook SDK should allow you to use the built in Facebook app to do such things via intent.
In alternative you could use the Intent ACTION_SEND to achieve what you want.
The new SDK of theirs implements a way of authorizing called Single Sign-On which searches the device for the presence of the Facebook app and sends an Intent to that app which will authorize for you. If the Facebook app is not found then it will fall back to the dialog method.
You'll still be stuck with square iOS-y like design for in app sharing, invite friends, etc. The only way I can think of getting around this is to use FQL but how to do that is beyond my knowledge.
http://minus.com/mg6utFaHf is just the standard facebook Feed dialog ... see https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/dialogs/feed/ ... just change www. to m. as for example https://m.facebook.com/dialog/feed?app_id=123050457758183&link=https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/dialogs/&picture=http://fbrell.com/f8.jpg&name=Facebook%20Dialogs&caption=Reference%20Documentation&description=Using%20Dialogs%20to%20interact%20with%20users.&redirect_uri=http://www.example.com/response
Said that if you want it different you have to implement UI and post data by your own by Graph api
