macOS "The application Android Studio can't be opened" - android

I am getting the error "The application Android Studio can't be opened" after updating my MacBook Pro to latest version 10.13.4 I am using Android Studio 3.1 I can open all the applications on my Mac except for Android Studio. I have searched on internet and couldn't find any related answer for this problem. Please help?

I had this issue and it seemed to be caused by comments in my studio.vmoptions file
~/Library/Preferences/.AndroidStudioX.X/studio.vmoptions
Once I removed the comments, I was able to open Android Studio again.

I've just fixed it by removing the studio.vmoptions file.
> rm /Users/{user}/Library/Application\ Support/Google/AndroidStudioPreview4.2/studio.vmoptions

In my case I had to do:
sudo chmod 644 /Applications/Android\Studio\Preview.app/Contents/Info.plist
because it had
-rw------- permissions instead of -rw-r--r--#

I faced the same issue, which I solved by below steps :
Delete Android Studio completely from your mac
Install through the command :
brew install --cask android-studio

Solution :- if you are facing this error “The application Android Studio can't be opened” or LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed with error -10810 for the file /Applications/Android Studio.app.
Then try
Go To Applications -> Tap on **Android Studio -> Show Package Contents -> Contents
Now copy the jdk version from jre -> jdk -> contents ->open info.plist -> copy Bundle version's value
then come back to main Contents Folder ( Android Studio -> Show Package Contents -> Contents ) and open info.plist -> JVMOptions -> JVMVersion and add/paste in its value and save and exit.
Now, You will be able to open Android Studio. :)

If anyone is facing this issue, locate your Android Studio configuration files.
~/Library/Application Support/Google/AndroidStudio<Version>
In my case, maximum heap size set by default was 20MB, which was too low. I was getting the same above error for Android Studio Preview.
I modified it to 256MB, Android Studio Preview started normally.
To change maximum heap size, go to the configuration file -> studio.vmoptions
Example: from -Xmx20m to -Xmx256m
increase the heap size to higher value.
The studio.vmoptions file allows you to customize options for Android
Studio's JVM. To improve Studio's performance, the most common option
to adjust is the maximum heap size.
For more details
Note: Once Android Studio opens up, it might ask you to increase the heap size again.

i had the same problem like you.
there is something wrong with my home directory.
it has been fixed.
sudo mkdir /Users/XXX/.android
sudo chown -R XXX:staff /Users/XXX/.android
good luck for you.

Android Studio slow since macOS update

Since I updated my Macbook 2016 Touch Bar to Catalina 10.15.6, android studio seems to perform quite slow and laggy. Even scrolling is starting to lag pretty hard.
I already set up my laptop again and deleted everything that was on it. but still nothing got better.
Idk what to do, because coding like that gets pretty annoying.
Does anyone know a solution to this?
Follow these steps:
Step 1:
Go to Android -> Preferences
Click on Build, Execution, Deployment
Click on -> Compiler
Check the Option — Compile independent modules in parallel (may require larger heap size)
Check on Use in-process build” and “Configuration on demand and click OK button
Restart Android Studio and that’s it.
Step 2:Update your android studio vm options file
Find your Android Studio app launcher file
Right click the icon -> Select “Show Package” Contents”
Go to Contents -> Bin folder
Open “studio.vmoptions” file using text editor
Add/change the following lines in your file and save it.
Old Options
-Xms256m
-Xmx1280m
-XX:MaxPermSize=700m
-XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=240m
Newly Updated Options (You can even increase more based on your Mac or PC’s RAM speed)
-Xms512m
-Xmx2560m
-XX:MaxPermSize=700m
-XX:ReservedCodeCacheSize=480m
Step 3: Restart or start the Android Studio
Step 4: In case if the Android Studio doesn’t open, which means you’re old vm option file got cached somewhere.
Follow these simple commands in your command line and remove the old file.
cd ~/Library
cd Preferences
cd AndroidStudio3.1 (This should be your current Android Studio version )
rm studio.vmoptions

Incorect Daemon Configuration [duplicate]

Version of Android Studio (Beta) 0.8.4
OS version: Windows 8
Java JRE/JDK version: 1.8.0_11
Error:Unable to start the daemon process.
This problem might be caused by incorrect configuration of the daemon.
For example, an unrecognized jvm option is used.
Please refer to the user guide chapter on the daemon at http://gradle.org/docs/1.12/userguide/gradle_daemon.html
-----------------------
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for 1048576KB object heap
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM warning: ignoring option MaxPermSize=256m; support was removed in 8.0
The Solution Worked:
1.Open the projects gradle.properties file in android studio
2.Added this line at end of file org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx1024m & Save the file
3.Close & reopen the project or just Clean and re-Build it
Do Following steps:
Start Android Studio.
Close any open project.Go to File > Close Project.(Welcome window will open)
Go to Configure > Settings.
On Settings dialog, select Compiler (Gradle-based Android
Projects) from left and set VM Options to -Xmx512m(i.e. write -Xmx512m
under VM Options:) and press OK.
I had the same issue, it was because I had an existing ".gradle" folder and then I've played with the android studio version (and also with the Java jdk version) , and I guess it messed things up.
Solution: Remove the .gradle directory (mine's location was C:\Users\UserName\.gradle), and restart android studio. It will automatically create a new one.
For android studio 2.2 version VM option is not available directly from project structure.
steps to make gradle sync successful:->
1)OPEN project
2)Click on gradle script
3)open gradle.properties
4)Change org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx1536m to org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx1024m
5)Save the work
6)Open File->Invalidate cache/Restart
And its done!!!
Enjoy Android!!!
Open your project and press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + S to open Project Structure. There under JDK location check Use embedded JDK (recommended).
Just reboot your PC
Not sure what caused this issue for me, I've tried all the solutions here, nothing worked.
Reboot helped, Windows 7.
org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx2048m was already there.
Update:
I believe it started after Update of Windows Defender Antivirus (KB915597)
Approximate date of update - 2018.07.22
It has to do with how much memory is available for AS to create a VM environment for your app to populate. The thing is that ever since the update to 2.2 I've had the same problem every time I try to create a new project in AS.
How I solve it is by going into Project (on the left hand side) > Gradle Scripts > gradle.properties. When it opens the file go to the line under "(Line 10)# Specifies the JVM arguments used for the daemon process. (Line 11)# The setting is particularly useful for tweaking memory settings." You're looking for the line that starts with "org.gradle.jvmargs". This should be line 12. Change line 12 to this
org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx2048m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8
After changing this line you can either sync the gradle with the project by clicking Try again on the notification telling you the gradle sync failed (it'll be at the top of the file you opened). Or you can simply close and restart the AS and it should sync.
Essentially what this is saying is for AS to allocate more memory to the app initialization. I know it's not a permanent fix but it should get you through actually starting your app.
I had the same problem. Starting Android Studio as Administrator fixed it.
Open Android Studio then go to gradle.properties file and change the last line to
org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx1024m.
And then press try again
Open Android Studio then go to gradle.properties file and change the last line to
org.gradle.jvmargs=-Xmx1024m.
then go to
File>Invalidate Caches/Restart.
and the problem will be solved, it worked fine with me.
the heap-size was already set in project and also android studio.
still, had this issue.
this issue is related to memory size.
here is what solved my issue:
open "task management" in windows(ctrl + shift + esc)
check, whether any program is eating memory.
please scroll down
(first time i just saw according to descending order of memory usage. but scrolled after trying other options and realised, "openjdk platform binary" consumed around 50mb but was running around more than 50 instances.)
end all the instances and check whether it solves the issue.
if "yes", update java so that, starting all these multiple instance entries are wiped out of registry.
if "no", try following:
additional solutions (if heap-size was already set):
uninstall any lastly (recently) installed plugin.
if you want the plugin (search for plugin related issue).
File>Invalidate caches / restart...
update gradle.
uninstall android studio and install a fresh new one (after File>Manage IDE settings>Export to ZIP files).
In some PC's this issue is caused by antivirus programs AFTER upgrading to the latest android studio and gradle version.
In my case I tore my system apart troubleshooting everything only to find out that Commodo Internet security was responsible for not letting the gradle daemon run.
After safelisting the process everything runs smoothly.
PLEASE NOTE that everything was OK before updating. The issue came up only after the update without changing anything in the antivirus/firewall program.
I had the same issue , i just remove .gradle file and restart android studio, it automatically download latest version and it works perfect.....
Try adding -Xmx512m in Android Studio->Settings->Compiler->VM Options as in below image.
Reason for this issue could be: Grade's build daemon ( forked process ) is invoked with maximum Java heap size as platform default value. On a 32 bit Windows this system this could be as high as 1GB. We get this error message, if that much(default) heap size cannot be allocated to the build deamon. So use the -Xmx option to set a lower heap size. It is not necessary to stick to -Xmx<size> with size as 512m. In my Win 32bit, 4GB RAM machine, -Xmx768m was also good enough.
I had the same problem, what i found was that Android Developer tools doesn't work well with JDK 8.
I deleted my current JDK 8 and and installed JDK 7 and worked just like that no increase of heap memory or delete of .gradle folder.
Believe it or not, I just encountered this sudden problem after performing a Windows Update on Windows 10. Somehow, that update messed up my existing Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit program, and ultimately caused Android Studio to be unable to invoke the JVM (I couldn't even open cmd.exe!).
Solution was to remove the Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit program (this may be fixed in the future).
I got same problem and I solved it using these steps.
1)Remove your .gradle file.(uuslly it in C:\Users{your_PC_name}
2)then go to the environment variable and add these to the system variable(as a new variable)
Variable name : _JAVA_OPTIONS
Variable value: -Xmx524m
3)go to your project folder and run these command
ionic cordova platform add android
4)Above command create platform folder in your project path
5)then run this command
ionic cordova build android
I've just cleaned up my disk space and restart computer. That have helped me.
Error occurred during initialization of VM Could not reserve enough space for 1572864KB object heap.
To solve this error you have to change only heap size which is defined in Gradle.Properties file. You have to change the heapsize to 1024m and rebuild the project.
If the error is not solved, you have to close the project and rebuild it.

Different solutions may work
Delete .gradle folder from c:\users\username\.gradle
File > Settings.
On Settings dialog, select Compiler (Gradle-based Android Projects) from left and set VM Options to -Xmx512m (i.e. write -Xmx512m under VM Options:) and press OK.
Close multiple applications running on your machine and clear memory space and try again
Start Android Studio.
Close any open project.Go to File > Close Project.(Welcome window will open)
Go to Configure > Settings.
On Settings dialog, select Compiler (Gradle-based Android Projects) from left and set VM Options to -Xmx512m(i.e. write -Xmx512m under VM Options:) and press OK.
It mostly works for that initilize vm problem.
Start Android Studio.
Close any open project.Go to File > Close Project.(Welcome window will open)
Go to Configure > Settings.
On Settings dialog, select Compiler (Gradle-based Android Projects) from left and set VM Options to -Xmx512m(i.e. write -Xmx512m under VM Options:) and press OK.
and then do this
Right click on My Computer and Open up your System Properties (The bit you had open before that shows your CPU/RAM values) >> On the left sidebar, click Advanced System Settings >> Click Environment Variables >> Under System Variables, press New >> Use the values below: // Variable name: _JAVA_OPTIONS // Variable value: -Xmx524M then, press OK and try again. restart Android Studio
Try disabling firewall.
This might be a very weird solution but I had the same problem and I'm running Android 2.3 on windows 32 bit . I deleted the current app and disabled firewall. Upon creating a new project everything worked fine.
If i can help you, you have to go in the Project Properties, and in the JDK location field check Use embedded JSD (recommended) eneable.
You need to add the path to environment variables (Windows) like such:
Variable Name: GRADLE_HOME
Variable Value: path
Please check below image:
try to adding -Xmx512m in Android Studio->Settings->Compiler->VM Options , it's working thanks..
In the gradle.properties file, change org.gradle.jvmargs to -Xmx1024m:
org.gradle.jvmargs=**-Xmx1024m** -XX:MaxPermSize=512m -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8
My case is a bit special which VM option is not avaibale. I use x86 windows 7 system, my way of solving this problem is by doing following procedures:
File - Setting...
In "Build, Execution, Deployment" select "Gradle"
choose "Use default gradle wrapper (recommended)" in "Project-level settings"
After restart Android Studio problem fixed!
I think if your environment just got messed up because of some VCS merging or commit errors, which is my case, i would suggest you just re-import your porject and add it to the root of your VCS to restore the project. If you use a VCS like git or subversion, you'll simply have to add your project to the root of the given repo and everything should be back to normal.
This worked for me though.
I fixed this issue by installing JDK x64. I guess you're using jdk x86 and it's not enough memory for gradle.

ERROR Android emulator gets killed in Android Studio

After updating to Android Studio 2 when I try to run my application and choose an emulator, I wait for the emulator to start and it suddenly gets killed. I can see the emulator process for some minutes but never the GUI. In Android studio, I get the error
android studio Error while waiting for the device: The emulator process for AVD was killed
This happens even if I run the emulator outside Android Studio. I have tried both an Android 6 and an Android 4.4-based emulator.
Running on a Windows 7 x64 PC. Similar post to another StackOverflow post which was closed. I have tried various ram, VM heap, and resolution settings.
I hit this issue trying to run Android API 30. In the end, I had to upgrade Android Emulator to 30.1.5 (it was 30.1.2 before this).
I had the same issue, the problem was there is not enough space in my disk drive.. you can see details about your specific situation in layer 'Event Log' this layer regularly is at the bottom on Android studio, it was my output Log:
"02:45 PM Emulator: emulator: ERROR: Not enough space to create userdata partition. Available: 3310.363281 MB at /home/user/.android/avd/my_Nexus_5X_API_27.avd, need 7372.800000 MB."
I had just 7 GB free, so just delete some GB's in my D.D. and it's working fine.
For me it seems it was a problem that OpenGL didn't work on my machine. I fixed it as follows:
Go to: Tools > Android > AVD Manager
Press the "edit" (pencil) icon next to your AVD
Change "Graphics" to "Software".
Check the free space of the emulator installation drive is more than 5 GB
Install the Intel x86 Emulator Accelerator worked for me.
This worked for me:
Tools -> SDK Manager -> SDK Tools (tab) -> Deselect 'Android Emulator' -> OK
Now, when you try to run your app, or launch device from AVD Manager, it will give the 'Install Emulator' error -> Click Ok.
This will automatically download the correct version.
For Android Studio v4.1 and above:
Menu -> Android Studio -> Preferences -> Tools -> Emulator
Uncheck Launch in a tool window option.
This issue happens when you have two Android SDK installations on your machine and the environment variable "ANDROID_HOME" points to the wrong location.
To fix it go to Android Studio settings, find the proper Android SDK location, update the environment variable and restart Android Studio / your PC.
I resolved the same issue by updating the Android Emulator.
Steps:
1. In Android Studio Go to TOOLS
2. SDK Manager
3. Android SDK
4. SDK Tools
5. Update the Android Emulator.
Then it will Run.
Check this for reference https://stackoverflow.com/a/64384372/13952516
Faced a similar issue, tried the above solutions as well and it didn't work.
Would like to suggest a simple solution which could help if the above suggestions didn't address the issue.
Solution - Try cleaning up space in the system. My problem was I had only 1GB left while trying to launch the emulator after cleaning up space got 8GB and was able to launch the emulator.
In android studio version 4.0 (WINDOWS), I could find the solution by just checking android studio welcome screen and clicking on the "Events" dropdown AFTER trying to launch the emulator (hence after getting the error):
the events section clearly shows that ANDROID_SDK_ROOT was not set in my system.
In a nutshell, whenever you see such error when starting the emulator, just check the "events" section in the welcome to android studio screen to find the real problem.
Beware that if ANDROID_HOME is not set properly, it will still tell you that ANDROID_SDK_ROOT is broken.
In my case, after installing the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019 (both x86 and x64 version), the issue is solved.
But wait! Why did I know this? I will tell you my experience.
When your program meets a bug, the first thing you need to do is finding the log to debug. But where is the log file that records all the events of the Android emulator? Click Help→Show log in Explorer. And then a new window is oepned, where a file called idea.log is located, and that log file is what we are looking for.
But this file may has recorded too much verbose info, so let's do following processes to get a more simple one:
·Exit Android Studio
·Delete the idea.log
·Open Android Studio
·Click Tools→ AVD Manerger
·Start one of emulators you have created, and needless to say, the error will occur again. But the idea.log will be created and the error is recorded into the log file now!
·Exit Android Studio.
·Open the idea.log and begin to analyze it.
·Search "emulator", and in my case there are 2 messages catching my eyes:
INFO - manager.EmulatorProcessHandler - Emulator: E:\cache\SDK\emulator\emulator.exe -netdelay none -netspeed full -avd Nexus_5_API_22
INFO - manager.EmulatorProcessHandler - Emulator: Process finished with exit code -1073741515 (0xC0000135)
Obviously, the "exit code 1073741515" is something important, and actually many people have asked what it means in StackOverFlow, but unfortunately, I can't find any useful info about it. So let's pass it and focus on the first message.
Open the command line (Press "Win"+"R" → Enter "CMD" → Click "OK"), copy the above message E:\cache\SDK\emulator\emulator.exe -netdelay none -netspeed full -avd Nexus_5_API_22
and paste it to the command line. Press Enter.
I totally didn't know what this command meaned, but it's reasonable to deduce that Android Studio ran this command and resulted in the error, so I will try to reproduce the issue.
After that, an error window pop up, saying "...VCRUNTIME140_1.dll is missing...". I know I have been close to the answer. So I serch "VCRUNTIME140_1.dll Missing" on google, and people said that "downloading and installing both the x86 and x64 versions of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 - 2019 Redistributable will resolve this problem".
So I download both the x86 and x64 version and install them. After doing this, I run the emulator again, and everything goes well.
You need to update the following tools.
Please check your free space on your disk also. I had a same problem and finally I got I need to free up space to fix this.
If you're on the Apple Silicon (M1) chip, make sure you're using an ARM64-based emulator:
If you're not, create a new Virtual Device and use the arm64-v8a image from Other images.
Go to: Tools > Android > AVD Manager and Press the "edit" (pencil)
icon next to your AVD , Change "Graphics" to "Software".
work on my Windows 10 machine and ubuntu 18.04
If your username is not in ascii/ has spaces then this may help, as I tried all of the solutions here and couldn't fix this problem:
Note: I found this solution on this video, suggested by a user called "tatachka", this is her comment (she kindly let me share it here).
For example, I had this path
c:\Users\Таня.android\avd\Nexus_One_API_24.avd My name in Windows is
Таня, written in Cyrillic in windows encoding (cp1251). I changed the
path to e:\Distribu\AVD.android\avd\Nexus_One_API_24.avd I moved
files from disk C there and edited Nexus_One_API_24.ini changing the
path in it and everything worked.
How to change the folder path: My computer -> properties -> advanced
system parameters -> environment variables - > lower 'New...' button:
variable name: ANDROID_SDK_HOME variable value: e:\Distribu\AVD
(in my case)
After the reboot, a new folder(.android) appears in the folder
e:\Distribu\AVD containing the 'avd' folder
EDIT: For clarification, the idea here is that you don't want the path to have non-ascii characters. I moved it to C:\programs_that_cant_read_hebrew (and preformed the other steps) and it worked just fine.
EDIT: changed "English" to "ascii/ spaces" after the comments
I get this same error if you upgrade the emulator to version 30+ and run mac < 10.15
You see the real error if you run it from commandline
~/Library/Android/sdk/emulator/emulator -avd <name>
emulator: Android emulator version 30.5.3.0 (build_id 7196367) (CL:N/A)
dyld: Library not loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/IOUSBHost.framework/Versions/A/IOUSBHost
You can fix this to upgrade to Big Sur or downgrade the emulator with these steps.
wget https://dl.google.com/android/repository/emulator-darwin-6885378.zip
unzip emulator-darwin-5395263.zip
mv ~/Library/Android/sdk/emulator ~/Library/Android/sdk/previous-emulator
mv emulator ~/Library/Android/sdk/emulator
cp ~/Library/Android/sdk/previous-emulator/package.xml ~/Library/Android/sdk/emulator/package.xml
Check if it succeed:
cd ~
~/Library/Android/sdk/emulator/emulator -version
28.0.25.0
~/Library/Android/sdk/emulator/emulator -list-avds

Edited April 8th 2021: I updated the emulator link to a newer version as mentioned in the comments
My case was: GOOGLE PLAY.
My virtual device was Pixel 4...
As shown on pic, Pixel4 has Google Play support, so that it give this error: " The emulator process for AVD Pixel4 was killed."
It gives error on Android Studio 4.1.1.
So that, I created a new virtual device(Pixel 4XL) and selected "SOFTWARE" for emulated performance...
Because this device doesnt have Google Play support, it worked for me.
Simple solution 2021
Go to AVD Manager
Find the emulator you are trying to use and then click on the down arrow
Select the option Show on Disk
delete every file that ends with .lock
Runs again the emulator and after this will initialize
goto tools>android>sdkmanager and update emulator and install related API level. It worked for me
This was working for me. You must update to android studio to latest version and then follow step below to update sdk tool:
Tools -> SDK Managers
Select Android SDK
Tab on SDK Tools
Check to update options available.
Press ok button
After that this procedure will take you some minutes, after it completed, everything will works fine.
I know so many people have given answers to this question many have valid points as well.
I have tried all the above possible ways, but it was not working, after reading logs from the android studio, I came to know it was a storage issue, for the emulator keep 11 GB space free and it will work.
Despite the question has been asked specifically for Windows, I will give my answer for MacOS 11.4 Big Sur, since this thread is the first hit on google when searching for this issue, and none of the answers already given solved the problem for me.
I found the solution to my problem here - for retention reasons, i will repeat the detailed steps anyway:
open Terminal and go to the directory /Users/<username>/Library/Android/sdk/emulator/qemu/darwin-x86_64/
create an xml file named entitlements.xml with the following content:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN"
<plist version="1.0">
<dict>
<key>com.apple.security.hypervisor</key>
<true/>
</dict>
</plist>
resign the emulator
codesign -s - --entitlements entitlements.xml --force qemu-system-x86_64
start the simulator
For me it was a problem of available space left in my computer and deleting unnecessary files solved the problem. Causes are vary from situations and you should see event tab which detailed event log are showed.
To summarize the above:
Install and reinstall HAXM 7.5.6 (only available version) under 'Android SDK' settings. Try downloading it manually, even other versions (they don't work with Android SDK), installing it from the Android/Sdk folder, etc. sc query intelhaxm in cmd should show if it is running correctly.
Virtualization is enabled in your BIOS and has been tested
Made sure the PATH variables are correct (ANDROID_HOME / ANDROID_SDK_ROOT) but NOT (ANDROID_SDK_HOME) to the folder in your settings per Here. Otherwise, you will see EVENTS on the Android Studio splash screen.
Try unchecking / rechecking Launch in a tool window in Emulator settings (and even Enable Device Frame in AVD settings)
Try rebuilding in several different combinations of android, different phones, etc (but with same levels and packages ... 30 for example)
Try Rebooting in several different configurations
Make sure all SDK Tools are up-to-date, and even try a fresh install of Android Studio. However, tried removing all of them, and adding them back.
Check your space, try to have 25GB maybe or more free
Check for Virtual Box, Antivirus Software, etc.
Open Android Studio with Administrator privileges
RUNNING ON DUAL MONITORS / DOCKING STATION ?
A) Run the emulator with everything unplugged, then plug back in your monitor! (Odd I know)... OR Better yet...
B) Create a New Hardware Profile, which will enable you to change Graphics: Automatic to Software.
In Android Studio Go to Help -> Show logs in explorer
Try to run the Emulator again of the errors are as below :
handleCpuAcceleration: feature check for hvf
cannot add library vulkan-1.dll: failed
cannot add library vulkan-1.dll: failed
Then install Microsoft VS Code and go to below path
C:\Users<User>\AppData\Local\Programs\Microsoft VS Code
Copy the vulkan-1.dll and paste in below path
C:\Users<User>\AppData\Local\Android\emulator\lib64
For me this solutions worked
For me, just deleting ANDROID_SDK_HOME from the environment variable list solved the problem
I tried every single answer in here but none of them worked, but finally I got it working when I run it on an emulator device with Android API 28. I think the problem is the emulator device couldn't run Android API 30.
I think this is problem of Android studio 2 Update or Problem to solve please Update also Android sdk version also then work properly.

Cannot start Android Studio. Android Studio stuck at the splash screen

I am not able to start the android studio. I have set java path in environment variables and Android studio is also latest version. I have tried to install and run administrator but no help.
Please help me...
Open file Android Studio setup directory/bin/idea.properties
Add disable.android.first.run=true to tail
Restart AS.
Going through the Known issues page(https://developer.android.com/studio/known-issues) found me the fix.
You have to set these additional PATHs
ANDROID_HOME = your SDK directory (android-sdk)
PATH=%PATH%;%ANDROID_HOME%\tools;%ANDROID_HOME%\platform-tools
Actual Solution
None of the answers here specify on how to debug the problem, you need to run the bin\studio.bat script in the terminal and inspect the actual Idea exceptions in order to fix the problem.
No need to re-install, delete precious configuration (and plugins, etc.). Just read the error message!
For me, this was the issue:
ERROR - llij.ide.plugins.PluginManager - java.net.BindException: Address already in use: bind
java.util.concurrent.CompletionException: java.net.BindException: Address already in use: bind
This means the plugin manager is trying to listen on a port that is not available. Is something listening on that port? For me, it is the stupid "excluded ports" by Windows, so I simply stopped the service:
net stop winnat (as administrator), and confirmed that Android Studio started to work.
Don't delete your configuration files, especially if you don't want to re-configure your settings. Just read the log provided by the bin\studio.bat script.
As of January 2016, the most recent canary needs the property written as as:
-Ddisable.android.first.run=true
otherwise it complains about missing JAVA_HOME. (using windows 10)
Fixed mine android studio by changing the system language, you can set yours to English go to Control Panel->Region under formats tab change the format to English(United states).
I had the same issue, I fixed it by changing the system language. Set your language to English by going to the Control Panel/Region. In the Formats tab change the format to English(United states).
I upgraded my Android Studio from 3.0 to 4.1 and after that AS always stuck on the splash screen. Fortunately, this section of the known-issues works for me https://developer.android.com/studio/known-issues#studio-config-directories

Thanks #ravi this also worked for me
As of March 2022, I was stuck in the splash screen was due to a plug-in conflict, but the IDE wasn't warning about it.
I received a warning balloon saying that I had the ExcelReader plug-in installed, suggesting me to install the new ExcelEditor plug-in, which is an improved (and paid ¬¬) version (I knew later). So I went and installed it and the IDE suggested restarting.
After restarting, the IDE always got stuck in the splash screen every single time I tried to launch it.
It wasn't until an hour later and so many launch attempts that, miraculously, the IDE launched and a dialog showed up warning about both plug-ins being not compatible so I had to disable one of them. It was a shame that it didn't warn me before. So I chose which one to disable on the dialog and it worked again.
Therefore, I suppose that if this were to happen again, it could be solved by editing the file /home/$USER/.config/Google/AndroidStudio2021.1/disabled_plugins.txt and adding the plug-in to the file manually.
In my case it was "com.chesterccw.excelreader" what I should have added. After that, of course, I uninstalled one of the plug-ins.
Studio doesn't start after upgrade
If Studio doesn't start after an upgrade, the problem may be due to an invalid Android Studio configuration imported from a previous version of Android Studio or an incompatible plugin. As a workaround, try deleting (or renaming, for backup purposes) the directory below, depending on the Android Studio version and operating system, and start Android Studio again. This will reset Android Studio to its default state, with all third-party plugins removed.
For Android Studio 4.1 and later:
Windows: %APPDATA%\Google\AndroidStudio<version>
Example: C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Roaming\Google\AndroidStudio4.1
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/AndroidStudio<version>
Example: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/AndroidStudio4.1
Linux: ~/.config/Google/AndroidStudio<version> and ~/.local/share/Google/AndroidStudio<version>
Example: ~/.config/Google/AndroidStudio4.1 and ~/.local/share/Google/AndroidStudio4.1
For Android Studio 4.0 and earlier:
Windows: %HOMEPATH%\.AndroidStudio<version>\config
Example: C:\Users\your_user_name\.AndroidStudio3.6\config
macOS: ~/Library/Preferences/AndroidStudio<version>
Example: ~/Library/Preferences/AndroidStudio3.6
Linux: ~/.AndroidStudio<version>/config
Example: ~/.AndroidStudio3.6/config
Note that the configuration directory for Canary and Beta releases of Android Studio is PreviewX.Y instead of X.Y for the . For example, Android Studio 4.1 Canary builds use AndroidStudioPreview4.1, instead of the AndroidStudio4.1 directory that is used for Release Candidates and Stable releases.

just add this line disable.android.first.run=true at the bottom of the idea.properties file in the bin directory of the installation folder

Android studio isn't opening on Windows

I just downloaded and installed Android Studio. For whatever reason, it won't open. I've tried running it as administrator, but that doesn't seem to work either. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but I'm still having this same problem.
On windows open task manager and check if android studio is there.
End the task and start the app again it works like a charm
Figured it out! I'm sure someone will run into this in the future, so here goes.
Even though it found my JDK during installation, it wasn't able to find it when I was trying to open it, for some reason. Simple fix. Add a JDK_HOME environment variable to your system variables. It should contain the path to your JDK's ROOT directory. i.e. c:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_21\
For me this technique works
Hover on icon, then hover on app
Press right click and select maximize
This link http://tools.android.com/knownissues lists another cause for the launcher malfunctioning.
I quote the link here:
"
On some systems the launcher script does not find where Java is installed. Workaround is to set a variable indicating the location of Java [b/55281]:
Open Start menu > computer > System Properties > Advanced System Properties
In the Advanced tab > Environment Variables, add new system variable JAVA_HOME that points to your JDK folder, for example C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_21.
Another issue we found is that the launcher script uses an option that is unknown to Java on some system [b/55267]
Open the installation folder of Android Studio (e.g. C:\Programs Files\Android\android-studio, or C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Android\android-studio) and find the "bin" directory in there.
Open a "cmd.exe" (command prompt), cd to the android-studio\bin folder and run "studio.bat". You will most likely see an error: for example b/55267 is about the option -XX:+UseCodeCacheFlushing not being recognized. Report the error, remove the line from the studio.exe.vmoptions or studio64.exe.vmoptions and it should now work.
Apologies for this weak launcher."
OS: Windows 10 64bit
Need to delete below folder and try launch Android Studio again.
C:\Users\your_user_name\AppData\Roaming\Google\AndroidStudio4.1

I am Installing Android Studio 4.1.1 in my Windows 10 and trying to open as normal as well run as administration both ways but did not open as regular.
When I saw in Task Manager then it was run as a background process then simply I was Endtask it in that background process and re-open. It works for me...!!!
Just add a JDK_HOME variable with the path of your JDK as value and start the IDE again. That's the only thing to do, hope this closes the other questions.
Windows 7 user:
I tried all the above ideas ( adding JDK_HOME, JAVA_HOME environment variables), but the final trick was to run as admin.
If that fails, try "where java" in cmd.exe.
If it lists c:\system32\java.exe first, then rename the file.
(i) Open the folder where android-studio is installed. (C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-studio)
(ii)- Right click on the android-studio folder and scroll to properties.
(iii)While in Properties window, click on Security.
(iv)Click the Edit Button
(v) Select User/Admin...or others
(vi)Check "Allow" in front of "Full control"
(vii) Either Apply or Press OK
....At this point you have to wait for it to install....Enjoy!!!
And I use Window 8...!!! So same thing applies to Window 7...wonder why the security on it...
I am on Windows 8 64 bit machine.
I already had JDK installed and jdk.1.7.0 folder was present in C:\Program Files\Java. But path for that folder didn't work. You must have jdk.1.7.xxx folder present on your machine and give that folder as JDK_HOME in Environment variable.
You can take latest JDK version from here
Make sure to choose Windows x64 version. Install JDK and then set your path. For those who are not sure how to set path in Windows 8, I have got following screenshots.
Go to bottom right corner. Click on Settings. Click on PC Info.
Click on Advanced System Setting link on left side.
Click on Environment Variables button. A Winodw will open with 2 listboxes. Click on New button below System variables listbox. New Window will pop up. Provide name as JDK_HOME and path as your path like "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_55". No need to take bin folder into the path.
None of the above mentioned solution worked for me. And there is no studio.bat file in bin directory.
So, I downloaded a 32-bit android-studio for my system (as it is 32bit) from here (official website) and it worked!
PS: The link might be broken in the future, just google for the 32 bit android studio.
(After wasting half a day on it, finally, I got it running)
I am running it on Windows 8.1. Also, I had JDK 1.7.0_13.
I tried the following:
Open Start menu > Computer > System Properties > Advanced System Properties In the Advanced tab > Environment Variables
Add new system variable JAVA_HOME that points to JDK folder, C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_13\
Just to be on the safer side, also add new system variable JDK_HOME that points to JDK folder, for example, C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_13\
Append new PATH in system variable that points to JDK folder, C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_13\
But still it didn't work. Then it struck me that might be, my Java version is old. I downloaded the latest version from here.
I uninstalled JDK 1.7.0_13 and installed version 8 i.e. JDK 1.8.0_131.
Now do all the above steps but, replace the path with C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.8.0_131\ OR whichever your latest version is.
Success!! Now it works.
In my case, I have existing projects and during trying the opening Android Studio, it just showed me the name of the project.
The thing I did was changing the name of that project and forcing Android Studio to ask me to choose which project at the beginning.
In my case, it was a windows related bug. Android Studio was configured properly and working like a charm, but it was opening in the second disconnected windows.
My solution was to press [Win] + Tab and then choose Android Studio on half of the screen so that it readjusts. Finally, I maximized it and it opened it in the correct screen.
I was able to resolve the same issue by refer to the solution provided in Android Developer Portal,
Studio doesn't start after upgrade

Linux: ~/.config/Google/AndroidStudio and ~/.local/share/Google/AndroidStudio Example: ~/.config/Google/AndroidStudio4.1 and ~/.local/share/Google/AndroidStudio4.1
In my case executing these in the command line worked after ending the Android Studio process in the task manager:
net stop winnat
net start winnat
Check the log file in :
C:\Users\<yourid>\.AndroidStudio<version>\system\log\idea.log
It might give you some clue.
You don't have to reinstall the Android Studio. In my case, I just deleted "C:\Users\User.AndroidStudio3.5" folder. Then Android Studio is opened. The folder contains just personel settings such as your ide theme darcula etc.
I invalidated cache and restartI deleted the Android studio version folder which was C:\Users\User.AndroidStudio3.5 for me and it worked like charm.
What worked for me was simply rebooting the computer. I'm certain that logging off and logging in will work to so the environment variables can refresh on profile level after installation.
Change the JAVA_HOME system environment variable to C:\Program Files\Android\Android Studio\jre
The direct path to installed java may not work sometimes due to version conflict.
I had Android studio crash on my machine crying about ram. Then it just wouldn't start again. Restarting th ecomputer wouldn't help and I know it has nothing to do with Java.
What ended up fixing it was runing Android Studio trough the Start Menu, or the instalation folder and not the pinned icon ...
Make sure you are not using two Languages (Hindi + English) as input method because android studio install required some time stamp and suppose you are using Hindi language that time and letters will not match at the time of opening
Solution is - select primary Language as English while installing Android Studio.
To change steps
press Windows
search word language
remove Hindi Language
then install Android Studio
I edited studio.bat file.
I added actual jdk placement to SET JDK= line at the beginning of file:
SET JDK=C:\\\Program Files\\\Java\\\jdk1.8.0_151
You must upgrade to 4.0.1 version!
The same problem happened with me. Actually my C drive wasn't full still I wanted to install android studio in D drive. The problem was resolved when I deleted it and again installed android studio.
Install it in C drive (You don't have to do anything for that. Actually, just click next...next.. next.. while installing and you are done.
)
Zuhair Naqi's solution is good, but in my case I don't have the option to maximize. So I found another method, because in my case the Android Studio (Bumblebee) does not open every time the windows was updated.
Select right click on the android studio icon, and open some recent project.
A new window will open with the recent project correctly.
You close the window that you couldn't see, and from there you can open projects normally.
I was able to solve it by going to control panel and uninstalling android studio, then restarting the computer so that any running instances would close. Next I deleted the folder
C:\Program Files\Android\Android Studio
Re-installed everything, and everything was working fine.
