Android xml styling for different sized elements in constrained layout

now I would like to have it like the bootstrap card with card-header, card-body and card-footer effect but I am only able to make it have the body like effect only. My attempt for the footer only positions the footer id element in the centre and its components crumbled together instead of the first one(minus) being spread out one to the extreme left, the other(quantity) in the centre and the last one(plus)n to the extreme right of the cardview's linear layout item.

yet what I want is for the grey area to span the entire width of the card view and position the components appropriately as explained earlier

I see that you used tools:scaleType for the image, and this won't work at runtime, as tools namespace is used for design purpose, so change it to android:scaleType
and position the components appropriately as explained earlier
You need to set the width of the LinearLayout that holds the buttons to match_parent, and set the weight values so that the buttons can be distribute like you need:

Layout - one button on top of two buttons

I'm inexperienced with Android and working on a layout that is supposed to have a bottom area with 3 buttons displayed this way:
I managed to almost get it like this, except that depending on the screen, the bottom buttons will be either overlapping each other or too far off. The buttons are supposed to be perfectly aligned below the "APPLY" button, but I can't seem to get it right.

first of all you have way to much relative layouts, much more than you need.

you can set the layout margins on the outer relative layout (e.g. android:layout_margin="8dp"
the layout works like this:
in the top row there is just the top Button. Below it there is a horizontal linear layout containing two buttons with
android:layout_width="0dp"
android:layout_weight="1"
This ensures both buttons span equally horizontal (because they have the same width). If you want the whole layout have a specific width just set the android:layout_width="match_parent" from the relative layout to android:layout_width="320dp"

Android Image - set to stay on bottom of view

I have an image that sits within a relative view, I'd like to set this so that it aligns with the bottom of the view, at the moment it simply centres itself (see screen grab below). I can achieve this alignment by setting a top margin however that doesn't seem right to me as this could vary depending on the device used. Is there a way to simply achieve this? (current screen grab and code below)

relative layout gravity center not aligning correctly

I'm trying to center the chilldren of my relative layout in the center of my screen but it's acting like it's aligned to the top of the parent and I can't figure out why.

I've tried making the parent a relativelayout without success and it won't align to the bottom either. Initially I thought the layout wasn't filling the whole screen but since its height and width are match_parent I don't think that's the problem. in android studio it is displaying correctly though so I must be missing something small.
I also tried using the gravity and layoutgravity parameters and a combination of the two but without success
Edit: I need the views to stay in the same formation relative to each other but centered in the screen vertically.

If setting the xml in an AlertDialog, it's possible that there is a space allotted at the bottom. I google and found this alert_dialog.xml for reference. It seems that there is a buttonPanel at the bottom with a minimum height of 54dip.

Thanks to ank I was able to figure out that the reason why the RelativeLayout didn't fill my screen is that I used it in an alertDialog. So RelativeLayouts parent isn't the screen but the alertDialog. Since an alertDialog wraps its content it doesn't fill the entire screen.

Android button height is different

I have two buttons inside a linear layout which have same properties defined. But to my surprise, both have different height. Please see the xml code below

Can you please help me to have the same height. I am wondering as to how both behaves differently. Also added includeFontPadding for the button. But no hope :(.

Your background drawables have different padding or height. check #drawable/btn_large_gray and #drawable/login_button_selector

put both the button inside linear layout

and adjust both linear layouts as you like it

Try defining property android:layout_weight for each element in your LinearLayout, so they can have the same height.
For example :

The idea is to give as much space to each element. Your LinearLayout contains different elements so by choosing wrap_content in the android:layout_height and android:layout_width, space available will be allocated for each element added. And as you TextViews and Buttons are not the same...

You are using different style for both the buttons,
i.e. "#style/Text.Quaternary.Small.Bold" and "#style/Text.Quaternary.ExtraSmall.Bold" you should use only one style for both buttons
